If you come for anything make sure you order an horchata. It's consistently delicious and I pick up a chocolaty taste in it that I love. They're generous with their toppings like lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. The chips come to the table with all the toppings on them. I always leave with a to-go box because of the large portions. It's nice to have it again the next day though. The inside is colorful with fun decor and a flower heart on the front wall. It's World Cup season and the games we're playing! We did takeout from el nopal over the weekend. It was just OK. The chicken in the quesadillas was a little too chewy but good flavor. The beef in the tacos was tough and grizzly but again, the flavor was amazing. The bean and cheese papusas were the best part of the meal. We were disappointed. read more

The food in this little corner cantina is nothing short of EXCELENTE! I mean, even the nacho chips they place on your table are generously topped with pico, cotilla cheese and the most delicious refried bean dip. Sadly there's no need for entradas when you have this. The first two times I came here I love love loved the Huaraches (something I had never before known about in all my Mexican dining experiences). But tonight I noticed Sopes, which seemed similar but maybe with a thinner fried corn tortilla. And with sopes I can get three small ones so that I don't have to choose between all the delicious proteins they have to offer. This way I got one asada, one al pastor and a barbacoa to sample. The sopes are a little on the dry side, despite the drizzle of cream. But I'm still a sucker for those crispy corn cakes. My wife had the chilaquiles, which featured such soggy nachos. I've been meaning to try all the food spots on Post Ave and I've gotten takeout from this place a bunch of times over the past year or two. The place is fairly small and has a bunch of tables on the inside plus some bar-ish seating. Wouldn't be a bad place to dine-in but I've always grabbed food to go as I live fairly close by. I always get the same thing when I come here: 2 carne asada tacos ($3.50 each) and 2 pupusas ($2.75 each). As with pretty much all restaurants, prices have gone up in the past year or so. This order used to be about $12.50ish but it came out to $13.58 when I came most recently. I think the prices here are pretty worth it considering how good the food is and how much they give you. Both the tacos and pupusas here are fantastic. The carne asada is actually very tender and is a far cry from some of the other taco places on LI that put overcooked / dry steak on their tacos. Everything they put on the taco (fresh guac, diced onions, cilantro) works really well. I'm not a pupusa expert, but I think the pupusas here are pretty amazing. I always get the pupusa revueltas with pork and cheese inside. I can't get enough of these; they are so good and so satisfying. They always give you a lot of red sauce and cabbage to put on it as well. They're pretty huge as well for just $2.75. Honestly, it's probably best to just get 2-3 pupusas here and you'd have a huge meal for under $10. The only reason I'm docking a star is because I got burned using credit card here. Prices are 4% more expensive if you use a credit card FYI. So it's best to pay with cash. I didn't think their sign was very clear and the lady there wasn't too great about explaining it when I came on one occassion. Otherwise, customer service has been ok. Hangry as hell so made a quick search for best Pozole soup near me, because that's what I was craving randomly, on my trusty Yelp app and Nopal was top of the list! They make a flavorful and hearty red Pozole soup with generous amounts of tender meat and hominy too! Also ordered a regular sopes that came with a good schmear of fresh refried beans, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, cojito cheese and cream and it was the perfect accompaniment to the soup! Tried their horchata and sadly it wasn't as flavorful as I hoped it would be but loved that it was not clawingly sweet either! The staff was really nice both on the phone and in person and packaged everything nicely so there was no chance of spillage on the way home. There were a few customers at the counter saying area but all covid precautions were being done here. Parking was not an issue as well, but maybe because I came around 3 instead of in the AM... I Would love to try and eat in at the restaurant one of these days but for now I'm happy to have great authentic Mexican take out so close to home that I can enjoy piping hot! Y'all! Eat local! Hidden gem in Westbury. Easily the best tacos and Mexican fare in the area. The restaurant is small with fun decor that takes me back to Mexico. The food here though is legit - easily on par with any eatery in Jackson Heights or Corona. Natives eat here while gringos eat at the eatery across the street - should give you an idea of the difference. The lengua tacos were amazing - just the right amount of tender meat seared on a flat top grill topped with onions and guacamole. Carne asada taco was juicy and tender. Pozole rojo was spicy and warmed to the core. Jamaica was overly sweet but the horchata was spot on. Portions are huge here, you will get more than your fair share for your money. Service was good too. Prices are really reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Thumbs up. read more

The food was amazing! This was my first time eating here and I ordered the Birria Tacos. OMG! They had so much flavor! Amazing food. I would totally go there again. The dish consisted of three tacos and I really didn't need to eat the third, but out of fear it wouldn't reheat well I stuffed myself on the last one because they were just that tasty. For a drink, I ordered horchata. I'm not sure if they make their own or not, but this stuff was the best I've ever had. And it came in a gigantic mug, which I finished all of. The service was a bit slow, but there was a large party in there when we walked in, and I think one of the cooks was out/late. Someone I assumed to be an owner came in, got to work on the grill to get the rest of the orders out, and then came around to ask if we were enjoying everything, so I won't hold this against the place unless it happens the next time I go. The overall atmosphere was pleasant. Nothing amazing. Your general run-of-the-mill Mexican place. It was clean and colorfully decorated. El Nopal has seriously good tacos. We came here for takeout after trying a taco a friend had picked up from here. There was nobody else there when we arrived, however, people stopped by for pick-up orders pretty soon after we got there. The menu is expansive but has pretty good deals. Three tacos for $9.75, margaritas for $8, etc. They also have pupusas (a favorite of mine). We had to wait a bit for our food but it was worth it. The margaritas weren't strong but were tasty. The chicken taco was my favorite - flavorful, pulled chicken. The beef taco had a kick to it, which I enjoyed. They also included plenty of green sauce which is the key to my heart. Standouts were the fresh nance juice and orange juice and the nacho appetizer. Tostadas and quesadillas were tasty, as well. Took a while to get our main dishes, but worth it to get freshly prepared food in this lively place. This place is a banger. Best tacos around. I'm only giving it 4 stars though because one time I called an order in and had to wait for over an hour for it when they said 20 mins. I went at 20 minutes and they said it'll be ready soon, so I waited in my car for 10 mins then came back and sat at the bar and waited another half hour while I saw some kids come in, order, then get their food and go. I needed to find some papusas in the area and this place came up. I ordered 10 papusas and 2 horachatas and the bill came up to around 30 bucks. Papusasas can be very pricey, but they were definitely worth it. Full of meat and cheese and big and juicy.
