We came for a birthday celebration and came booked a table on the "No Minor" section, which is like a speakeasy where only adults can get in and good food and good times happen. I was told that Thursday through Saturday they have live music and it's a big party here but we came on a Tuesday so we missed that part but we still had a great time. Our server was good, I wouldn't say that they excel on their customer service but it's ok, they get you what you need. This is for the cheese enchilada score only. sauce is amazing and everything about these cheese enchiladas is first rate. This place is like a cheese enchilada shrine. They have the Felix and they have the regular style, I had the Felix which is a richer sauce than the standard cheese enchilada however I also tried the other one and it has a lighter sauce not as rich but also very flavorful. I do not think I've seen two types of cheese enchiladas in one restaurant ever. This past Saturday was my first time visiting this restaurant since 2004. Even then it was about having drinks over a meal in the so called, club "No Minors." So, I made certain that I had dinner in the resaturant, so that I could concentrate on the food without the blinding effect of a potent margarita...which may not have been in a good idea. Michelle ordered enchiladas and a margarita. I ordered fajitas and a Pineapple flavored margarita. First off, the drink: The Pineapple Margarita was very, very sweet and took away from the margarita experience. I've had pineapple flavored margaritas from other restaturants and they did not taste like this one. It was not good! Second, food: Michelle had said that the Spanish rice had little or no flavor. It didn't remid her of any Spanish rice that she's made or ever had (she's Mexican-American, buy the way). My fajitas (been and chicken) had little or no flavor - even though they were accompanied by the searing onions and peppers on the skillet that they were served on. The rice was also lacked flavor, too. The one thing that was good about the visit was our waitress, who was very nice and very attentive. If you've never been here, BEWARE that the parking lot is pretty small, with a thrid of it being used by the other stores in the small shopping center and half of that is paid valet for the restaurant, which seems to be less than 20 steps from any parking space. If I was a teacher, this is how I would grade our meal here: A for chips and salsa and queso. A+ for house margarita on rocks and Texas Tea. A for tortilla. D for rice and beans. The beef in the tacos al carbon gets an F (use better quality beef and season it properly and don't over cook). Their cheese enchilada gets an A-. Now for the infamous blue frozen margarita.... it's ok. Nice and strong, so if you want to get messed up - this is your go to drink. All together, this place is good and bad. They deserve 2 1/2 stars, but I'll round up to 3. If you like bland Tex-Mex, you'll love it here. read more

So my husband and I were at petland across the street and decided to go grab drinks here because we saw they have drink specials from 11-6 on the weekends. There is a restaurant side and a "bar" side, so we go to the bar side. We sit down and look at the drink menu and we each order a drink. The waitress asks for our IDs and WALKS AWAY WITH THEM ...a man comes back and says some "machine" isnt working or accepting our IDs so they cant serve us. So i ask "what yall dont take TN IDs here??" I understand we look young, but this is lowkey profiling because there is nothing that would implicate our IDs are fake. Idk if its because our addresses are different on them (we've only been married 2 years as of Aug 25, 2023), idk if it's because our birthdays are so close (they're 11 days apart in the beginning of Aug) but either way the excuse was bullshit, and there is truthfully no real reason why they wouldn't serve us. I tried El Patio for the first time. It took me a while considering I live in the area. A friend suggested we go have margaritas for happy hour there. The only parking is valet which is free. Since we were there for happy hour, we were led to the right to a dark room called Club No Minors. This is not my type of ambience for happy hour. Why does it have to be dark? I chose a house margarita on the rocks. It was sort of bitter with not much lime taste at all. I didn't like it. The waiter offered to put more agave on the drink and I agreed. At $8.75 for a house rita during happy hour, I find it pricey. The salsa is quite good and the chips not greasy. I ordered quesadillas from the happy hour menu. The cheese on them tasted good. I suppose the item to order there is a blue margarita as I saw two tables with them. Our first visit to El Patio was for 5 de mayo. I never really got into this fake holiday, but we were in the mood to be festive, so why not. We especially got excited and intrigued once we learned about "Club No Minors," which is just a room away from the main dining area, closed off with its own servers, kitchen entrance and bar. The same menu is available and they have mariachis on certain nights. Despite being told at the hostess counter that there were no available tables in CNM, I peeked in and saw one, so the hostess told us to grab it. Say less! Club No Minors has tables in close proximity to one another (less than 6'), and at least one of the mariachis will be standing next to your table at some point, so matter how they try to spread out. This makes for a loud, festive ambience, and it's clear that everyone at every table came to party! Again, our first experience was on 5 de mayo and the mariachis knew their audience. This was the type of audience that likely believes 5 de mayo represents when Mexico gained its independence from Spain, and that the whole country of Mexico is celebrating along with us, so yes, play "La Bamba," "Besame Mucho" and every other song that most Americans would recognize. It's a colonizer's paradise! Anyway, enough sarcasm. The wife ordered some sort of crab-involved enchiladas, and I got what I thought would be chicken and shrimp fajitas. As it turns out, despite how the menu describes this dish, it's actually chicken fajitas + shrimp and they charge per shrimp. (I would have know this had the waiter asked how many shrimp I wanted, but instead he randomly gave me 6 and charged me accordingly.) Never you mind, after a bit of haggling and the manager getting involved, they took this extra charge off the bill. We've returned to El Patio a few times since then. We missed out on CNM once, and ended up on the patio. Not as fun. If you want loud, exciting, and possibly a super-spreader experience, you want Club No Minors. If you want quiet relaxation, do the patio. read more

Overall I loved the customer service that was provided. Our waiter was awesome and he provided great recommendations on what we should get. What was really cool about this place was that the lunch specials really made the entrees cheaper. I believe the shrimp/lobster enchilada without lunch special is $23 but for lunch it was half off. the food was really filling and was definitely worth the money spent. I think the biggest reason why I'm taking a star off is because during the weekends they have valet parking. We went during Friday at lunch and there was no real reason for valet parking in that small parking lot. There weren't even that many cars in the lot either! The only thing that it made me do was consider going to another restaurant because there were a ton of empty spaces that had a cone in front of it and I was unable to find parking. Luckily, there was one spot near the back that didn't have a cone in front of it and we were able to park there. Had it not been for that, we wouldn't have been able to eat here! read more

If you are a die hard Houstonian like we are (69 years) you remeber Felix Mexican Rest. You also know that El Patio got the rights to continue their authentic Felix Recipes. We have eaten the authentic Felix recipe here prior to today Feb 3, 2024 and it was fantastic! Not so much anymore. Lets start with the red sauce: remember the onions floating in grease and seasoning? Well now they bring you something that tastes like ranch style bean sauce! Next the enchilada: big and fat it never was but is now! Then the famous Felix Queso: about the only thing that remains close to the original recipe except, its on a very large corn tortilla.
