My mother in law grew up around these parts so Felix's was one of the first local Mexican Food establishments in the area. They were in business for many decades and when the original owners retired, El Patio took up the reins. They kept some of Felix's old recipes. The one that drew us to this place is the Queso dip. We were not hungry so we ordered nothing else. This stuff is the bomb! Very cheesy, gooey and somewhat greasy but super good queso! They have delivery vans out front and one returned while we were there so they do deliveries during the pandemic. We absolutely love El Patio. Not only is it family friendly but the staff makes you feel right at home. We had Alejandro A. as our server for brunch today (which is a must try by the way). He was fast, attentive and so sweet. I got the sunrise enchiladas, they were good but I loved the chilaquiles our last brunch visit. Came here for Cinco de Mayo a few days ago. It was super crowded, and this could be the reason for the poor service we received. There wasn't any room to visit Club no Minor. That was okay with us. We were fine with a regular table. My first impression was that the restaurant was super dark (not in a romantic, charming way) and felt somewhat dingy overall. Still wanted to stick around and check it out. They brought us to a table with picked at chips and salsa already out. It seemed at first like they were going to pass them off as being fresh servings... Finally someone came and cleared this leftover food and gave us our own basket of chips and new salsas. We enjoyed the chips and salsa! Not the best ever, but still enjoyable. The salsa had the kind of spice that you don't notice until a few seconds later. We were never told what their Cinco de Mayo specials were, so I am unsure if they actually had any specials or not. We both ordered their famous blue margarita (since that's what everyone here on Yelp is talking about). They were good! And yes, definitely strong. Our waitress finally came back to take our food order. We chose to split a chicken quesadilla. 1 hour passed. Our waitress came by to check on us. We each ordered another margarita since we were still waiting for our food. I asked for a purple one this time. She brought me a blue one saying she forgot I wanted purple. Oh well. That's fine. We figured our quesadilla was coming out of the kitchen soon, and we were just going to be patient. Then almost another hour passed. We finally asked if our quesadilla was almost done (mind you 2 hours have passed). Our waitress said, "oh I assumed someone brought it to you." Nope... 10 minutes later our simple chicken quesadilla arrived. Took FOREVER. But it was soooooo good. Like one of the best quesadillas I've ever had. We liked our food and drinks. But it clearly wasn't a good experience for us. I'm going to give them a benefit of the doubt and try back again on a less hectic day. read more

Drove here all the way from Spring, TX to celebrate my BFF's birthday. We chose this place because we used to eat at Felix back in the day and we heard El Patio makes and serves the famous Felix Queso. We were so excited to see that they actually have a whole page of their menu dedicated to Felix classic dishes. We both ordered the Felix plate #2 and words cannot describe how amazing the food was. Left a bad taste in my mouth, walked in, and it was only two tables that I saw were sitting. And I stood for two or three minutes, and no one came to the hostess stand to greet me or to sit me. Very disappointing, because I enjoyed myself the last two times . My boss always claimed their margaritas had everclear in them. I have a hard time believing that is true but I guess they are pretty strong margaritas. Their Mexican food is good. First of all, I'd like to thank you for the business you have provided for so many patrons over so many years.  We had a get together at your restaurant Monday the 2nd in the evening. It was a last minute decision to go here as we just then had found out our favorite restaurant in the River Oaks area decided to close for the evening and one of our friends that lives close suggested this place for us.  Where do I start. From the moment we sat down and the server greeted us, I knew it would be a very interesting experience. The way he dropped the napkins (coasters) on the table as he left to get water for us was just so careless. The last one he threw like it was a paper airplane luckily it did land on the table. By the way, it was a party of about 12. 2 of us were there when this happened. So we all finally settle in and it all began. I asked him if he could do separate checks if we stay put so can keep track better. The face he made, was of "it sounds difficult" was of "I kinda don't want to do it" was of " I'm to lazy to figure it out" and suggested we do equal payments but I didn't think it would be fair the people that were not drinking alcohol to pay a bigger amount so he finally agreed. Anyway now the taking orders part was also a little shocking. Just because of the way he double tapped my shoulder when it wasn't called for as I wasn't even distracted with anything else, so it was super uncalled for the shoulder tapping as it threw me off completely I couldn't even remember what I wanted to order just because he touched me. And I think he did it to the others also. With that being said, the food comes out. And he starts to sing a song with the name of the plates that were ordered....Really? You took the order and don't know who ordered it. He called for the chicken like 4 times, I'm guessing that was the chorus. Until the guy that had the chicken realized it was his being called...then the server gave him the chicken. Then he sang the last verse as the last plates were set. By the end when it was time to give out checks, he got totally confused and perplexed like if he was new to the business. Messed up some, charged wrong items on others, one of us gave him a credit card with 2 tickets to charged both and he charged one. And at the end he says his missing payment for a certain dish. Which was the one he had to charge with that card. It was a total mess. Oh another thing to mention is that he was asked if we can get Green Tea shots for us and he said they don't have that. It's on the menu. So we tell him it's a whiskey based shot and what it has...He says they don't have whiskey!!! Wow he really has no knowledge. It was a very annoying time. The server is very nonchalant about service and looks at patrons like he knows more and "I'm doing your favor" attitude. There was also no manager that ever came to us to see how we or if we were enjoying our experience. The only attentive person in this whole ordeal was the busser. He deserved the gratuity that was left. And because some of us are in the industry we were not just going to give nothing. Eventhough he truly didn't deserve it. That's the ONLY reason some gratuity was left.  Sorry for taking your time but I feel like this should be addressed and there should be training given to this individual so service could be smooth and enjoyable. ---Dearest Reader, Tucked along a tired and worn out strip center along Westheimer you will find a hidden gem. It goes by multiple aliases - El Patio to some, Club No Minor to others. If you're unaccompanied by minors, I would recommend taking a hard right upon entering the restaurant. There you'll find a divey and nostalgic oasis of a dining area. The blue margaritas are sneaky strong but very well balanced from a sweet/tart standpoint. They offer a nice touch w/ the chips and salsa by providing a ramekin of queso. The felix queso is definitely worth ordering in addition to the meal, I'm not sure how to describe it other than being utterly delicious. During my most recent visit I ordered the Carne Guisada (pictured). It was fantastic. The stewed beef was flavorful and tender; this dish checked both boxes w/ ease. Music plays loudly (all they have to do is turn down the bass but they refuse) Fridays and Saturdays from 9pm to 2am and Sundays from 4-ish to at least 9pm. When someone tells you the blue margarita is strong, they ain't lying! This is a Houston staple and you have to try the Blue Margarita at least once. They have had Club No Minors forever, which is a side entry from the main restaurant. From memory back in day late in the evenings they allowed no minors and played music throughout the night. The prices are reasonable, except margaritas were not quite very good the last time we were there and the price was a bit high would love to see a reasonable happy hour during the week and More attention to the quality of the margaritas. Really enjoyed everything about this divey Tex Mex place. First tip - when you enter go to the right and enter the Club No Minors bar & lounge room. This allows for a more intimate, ambience filled experience (for 21+ only). We went on Saturday during happy hour and loved everything we tried. The blue margarita is goooood, and if you like a little change, try the purple which is the blue with some raspberry puree added. That was also good. Both on happy hour menu. The chips came with both salsa and queso when we sat down. The chicken quesadilla - yum! Gooey, grilled, loaded with chicken and cheese, heaven! 4 pieces on happy hour. Let me start about by saying this WAS our go-to spot for Texans Sunday. Alfredo and Alejandro provided amazing service. Margaritas and food were on point!! However, our table was having a CIVIL conversation regarding politics. Not one person was arguing or disrespectful. The table next to us did not tell us we were loud NOR did they say we made them uncomfortable. Instead, they decided they needed to chime in and say "But, you are white?!" This table could have said, you are being too loud or can you talk quieter?!, but no, they ended up exchanging words with our table and WE got kicked out. They did not. The food is tasty too, yet since I have transitioned to being a vegan there is not much I can eat here so I usually only go for drinks. Moving on ...their patio is pretty cool and I like to just chill out there listening to the water flow from their little water fountain while...yes you guessed it...sipping a blue rita . Our server was rude. The house margaritas, while strong, had no essence of lime and when I asked for an additional lime, was told it was $1. For a lime slice. Where you can go to HEB and get 5 whole limes for $1. We also ordered the "World Famous Felix's Queso" it was disgusting, room temp and congealed... and she gave us a large when we didn't ask for it and I don't know how anyone thought that queso could ever be good. I also tipped 15% for the service that brought it out to me. I really think that the five dollar charge is completely unnecessary for two Styrofoam boxes and one plastic container. The burrito was okay, but the reason for the 2 star review is that I was told by the very nice employee that I was rung up "the best way possible" for what I ordered. so this is my first time ever dining at this establishment. I came into town to pick up my car after getting repaired and I was driving back to Austin and then my windshield wipers broke down so I wasn't able to drive back today because it was raining. Anyways! I figured I would get another hotel stay and go dine somewhere. I just pulled into this parking lot and when I walked in, it was very quiet and conserved. I noticed that everyone who walked in spoke to the servers or management as if they were regulars. So obviously this was a good place to die in. I ordered just trying to kill some time until check in. When I arrived, the bus boy gave me chips and asked if I wanted anything else. And then my server came up and took my drink order. Then, she came and took my order and after taking my order, the bus boy came back again to make sure if I needed anything else then another server came by and see if I needed anything. So altogether the customer service was so amazing. By the end of my meal, the manager, Michael came by and asked if everything was OK. And then we had a small conversation and he made me smile, then he even bagged the rest of my food to go, and my server was just very nice and amazing! I will for sure come back to this place. Once I year, I like to visit spots that I don't typically frequent. El Patio was selected for the night, and I figured why not. Sound be fun right?! Well, I got there and was slightly dismayed that the only parking option you had was valet. I hate having people touch my baby (her name is Babz) but I went along with it any way (not that I had a choice). Gave them my keys and went inside. I put my name on the list for an inside table but told the waitress I be sitting outside since it was a 20 minute wait. For the entire time that I sat outside, no one offered me drinks. They said because my name was on the list to go inside they didn't think I'd want anything to drink while waiting. Ok. While waiting, my baby Babz was kicking up a fuss. Apparently they decided to move her and without turning off the alarm proceeded to drive get around with her alarm blaring. I left my table and walked up to my car and knocked on the passenger window, the driver ignored me. I walked over to the driver said and asked for my keys. I turned off my alarm and showed then how to turn it off in the future. The valley guy grabbed my keys out of my hand and proceeded to turn on my car. I should've known that once Babz was not happy, that I wouldn't be happy. I returned to my seat and opted to stay outside because it was a nice night. We ordered dinner and drinks. Because I'm keto, I ordered plain margaritas with the plan to add some of my mio flavored drops to the mix. The waitress asked for our card bc in the past, people would drink outside and leave without paying. So they'd skimp out on tabs that were over a hundred dollars. We obliged and gave her a card for the tab. We ordered dinner, and 2 rounds of drinks. Our tab was about $80 at this point. Then the "manager" (?) stopped me as I was putting my mio into my margarita. He asked to see what it was, and I showed him. He took the bottle and read it and then told me that I couldn't do that while there. I explained to him why I was adding the drops but he said it was against their policy (right). I told him okay and they brought us our tab without us even asking - essentially kicking us out. We paid and left. Suffice it to say, I won't be returning here. There are too many Mexican restaurants serving quality food and drinks for me to put up with their lack of customer service. Wow. Such amazing food!! Visiting Houston from LA and we were hoping to find some authentic Tex-mex. This is the spot! Alfredo, our server, was incredible. Make sure to ask for him when you come, he walked us through the menu, told us his favorites, was very professional and extremely attentive the entire meal. My boyfriend and I had the blue margaritas (highly recommend) (strong and delicious) and we split the beef fajitas for one. It made about 5 large tacos which was plenty for us. The beef was sooo tender and delicious (just the beef fajita not the tenderloin). If you're in Houston you must come here!! And if you like spicy, ask for the green salsa! I moved to Houston 18 years ago and began my search for a San Antonio style Tex Mex cheese enchilada. I found it here and they are great. My wife ha s ordered all kinds of stuff off the menu and it's been hit and miss on some of the other food. She's ordered a meal that was great and ordered the same meal again months later and it wasn't good, so the only consistent thing is the cheese enchiladas. The tortillas are also consistently good. We've been to the club a couple of times due to no seating at the restaurant and the service is lacking there, but then again a bar is more geared for drinking and not eating. We normally don't drink so I can't comment on the drinks, but it seems people like to come here to drink and have food while they're there, not the other way around. read more
