Easily the best ceviche I've had in quite some time. The flavors were absolutely spot-on for my tastebuds; I didn't have to add any salt, and lime was unnecessary, but also not over-pronounced. The shrimp was tender, cooked perfectly; the dish comes with a very fresh sliced avocado. Craving it just thinking about it! I also got the grilled chicken quesadilla, which was good; maybe a bit too drippy, but solid. Service was timely and accurate. My wife and I had lunch at the El Patron restaurant near Cosner's Corner on Tuesday, 7/2/24. For some reason, I thought that a restaurant named "El Patron" would be like a small castle or a ranch sort of like the Uncle Julios at Potomac Mills. As you may be aware, patron means boss or lord or master. From what I can remember, I ordered something relatively simple or typical and I loved it. The price and service were just right. My husband and I used to enjoy coming here on the weekend for drinks and snacks but after today we will NOT return. They never unlocked the door, the bartender couldn't figure out how to make a michelada and gave me a mug of tomatoe juice and bee, my husband found a hair in his rice, the main entrees were not prepared properly. When we brought this to the attention of management they barely discounted our bill and we still had to pay over $50 for drinks we didn't drink and food we barely ate. The food tastes good. You get a good serving size for the price you're paying. The service is pleasant. I have gone several times and have been satisfied each time. The adult drinks are also tasty. I haven't been for a happy hour so I don't know their deals. I will continue to try new meals when I visit again. The ambiance is pleasant. There is another "El Patron" a few miles away that is just as good. I prefer the lighting at this location. It's brighter at the front and there is a small outdoor section. The other doesn't have either even though it's just as pleasant there. I do prefer more natural lighting in restaurants as a preference. I've eaten at "El Patron II" by the courthouse more just because it's closer to me. read more

We just moved in the area and are exhausted (currently). I had to write to show my appreciation for this great business. The food was great (we got delivery) and really well seasoned. This place deserves 5 stars in regards to great friendly service, a clean atmosphere and fresh, hot food with large portions. I'm giving it 3 stars because I personally did not like the taste. My husband and I went in on a Monday night, and they still had a pretty good crowd. The chips weren't all broken; they were hot and fresh. The salsa was very runny and sweet, and i just have a personal preference for a chunkier salsa with a slight kick. We got tableside guacamole, which was just okay. It tasted like it was missing something. I ordered the fried chicken chimichanga, which came with beans. The chimi was packed full of chicken, but the tortilla wasn't crisp at all. It was soggy from sitting in the white cheese sauce and was more like a soft chimi. The refried beans were good. My husband ordered the Hawaiian fajitas and it comes out in a pineapple, which is a nice presentation. He enjoyed it, but wasnt a fan of the chorizo, and said he would rather go with traditional fajitas next time. I noticed that they do not have a "a al carte" menu for those with smaller appetites, and this is something that appeals to me. All in all, we may go back again, but for now, we are going to continue to search for our 'go to' Mexican restaurant in the area. read more

I wanted to give this place a try, because I had a bad experience with El Charro and their wait staff. It started off good, the chips and salsa were average chips and salsa. My waitress was Ana C & I literally saw her twice maybe thrice the whole entire time I was dining in. This irritated me, because I had to yell or literally get up from my table to find help a few times. I left no tip, because I felt like my waitress did not earn one. Between her and another waitress, I found one just sitting playing on her phone. They also messed up my food after I waited 20+ minutes for it. They sent it back and took an extra 10 minutes, but then it was salty. I'm not coming back to this location. read more

Man oh man!!! I am a very, very happy girl. Background: I lived in California for six years where I was introduced to Menudo (a Mexican soup with tripe, hominy and other delicious things). Since relocating to the East, whenever I dine at a Mexican restaurant I've asked for Menudo. The answer is always no...until I visited El Patron!!!! Popped into El Patron to grab dinner to go after an incredibly long work day and asked for Menudo fully expecting the answer to be no. Except...it wasn't. The hostess said the cook just finished it up...I gave her a hug and I'm not ashamed . After what felt like the longest drive home (it was only 15 minutes) I was finally able to dig in. There are no words!! It was perfectly flavored and took me back to San Diego! BTW...the soup is sold in one size that was enough for three servings...so not only was it delicious it is a great value. Went to El Patron yesterday had the chimichangasfresh,crispy,a ton my shredded chicken. My aunt has fajitas she loved them as well. Fast service & the manager on duty checked on us before we were done. They were very busy yet still provided great customer service. Our family looooooves this restaurant!!! The food is so good and fresh. They have delicious crispy, thick chips and salsa (complimentary). Every entree we've ever ordered is incredible. The servers are the best!! So sweet and treat you like family. It's become a special ritual now for my son and I to come here for dinner when my husband is out of town on a business trip. Me and my partner discovered El Patron when they were in their original location, a little place close to South Point. They opened up another out in Courthouse then another in the White Oak area. All three were very good and we became regulars. Today my partner and I went to the new El Patron, Central Park location for the second time and what a huge disappointment. We sat at the bar, ordered a couple of drinks an appetizer and two entrees. Thirty minutes later, out comes our food, five minutes after that out comes our appetizer. All this while the bartender was doing trash duty in plain sight and only 4 occupied tables. We send the appetizer back as we prefer having appetizers before our meal. Fast forward to the meals, both orders were wrong. We asked to speak to a manager as the bartender who took our order never came back. We explained how we never complain and that we have been coming to El Patron since they opened their first location and the owners, especially Lucy always acknowledged us with a friendly hello. Not really sure if the young lady we spoke to was actually a manager. We believe in supporting locally owned businesses over big box corp. Long story short, we sent our food back, pay for our drinks and left feeling so disappointed. We believe El Patron has lost it's way, so out of touch. Bigger isn't always better and you have lost two loyal people. Good luck in your big empty location. read more

It wasn't that good. My husbands dish was super salty and mine was incredibly bland. Sadly the dessert wasn't great either.

We had the Texas and chicken fajitas which were seasoned just right. Chips were a bit stale but no big deal.

I wanted to like this place but I had a terrible experience. Customer service: we were seated with no silverware and menu. Our waitress left and we had to ask for a menu. I tried ordering table house guacamole but we was told they were out of lime which was shocking. So we ordered the cheese dip and ceviche, the cheese was so cold as if it was sitting for hours. And the ceviche had artificial lobster and it was not good. After sitting for 20 mins our server never came to ask about the appetizer so that we could send it back. We came here on Saturday because I had a restaurant.com coupon. I figured if we hated it, we would not be out so much money. I say that because the Mexican restaurants here just don't measure up to what I am used to....UNTIL NOW. They are friendly, have good service and the food is excellent. They bring out chips and salsa with a black bean dip as well. The salsa is good and fresh. The black bean dip is amazing. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas. The veggies were cooks to perfection and had wonderful flavor. My husband ordered the chicken quesadilla. The chicken was grilled, there were onions and peppers and a really awesome cheese sauce as well. He said it was the best chicken quesadilla he ever had. My daughter ordered the chimichanga. It was also prepared perfectly and was filling. We will definitely be making this a frequent dinner place. read more

Simply put: this is our likely new "go to" for Mexican food in the immediate Fredericksburg area. Starting off, the chips and salsa were very fresh. Easily the freshest salsa I've had in a long time. The chips were warm and tasted great. We started off with a Chori Dip which was perfect! We ordered a chicken quesadilla that was smothered in cheese and a burrito stuffed with chicken and rice. The burrito was HUGE and and the quesadilla was perfect. The tortilla on the burrito was so soft and fresh, it cut very easily. For desert we ordered fried ice cream which was the perfect size. It was presented very nicely and tasted very very good. The service here is the best around. The staff is very friendly and very attentive to our needs. Waited 40 minutes after ordering, still no apps , no dinner, no nothing. Asked bartender where the food was.. went back, came out said maybe another 19 minutes..Really??!! Came here on the way home from vacation due to the highly rated Yelp reviews. Not sure where all the high ratings came from! The food was not bad, but not really great. I had the Patron Quesadilla which included steak, chicken, and shrimp. The vegetables were not fully cooked, and was cooked in too much oil which ended up on the shell it came in. One kid had a burrito which had too much cheese on it, other kid went with one hard, one soft taco which was fine, and wife had a chimichanga which was one of the best she's ever had, so props for that! My margarita on the rocks was not good at all. The place is at the end of a small strip mall and had a lot of seating. Based on the reviews, it seems that this place gets quite busy for dinners.
