OK we were headed to LA and needed dinner. We do not do fast food so we found El Picosito on Yelp and thought we would give it a try. It was 5 miles off the 5. This is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. It was a slow, rainy night but our server Becky was great and the food came out fast. Service and cleanliness is stellar! The food however not so much. I ordered the Chile Relleno plate the Chile Relleno tastes as though it was frozen, old and freezer burn. I can tell you this much it wasn't fresh. The rice and beans we're pretty darn good. My husband ordered a Diabla Cameron. It lacked authentic flavor no onions, no bell pepper, no chile. This is a favorite spot for my Aunt and I to have a meal in house or do take out. Coming from a home where authentic home cooked Mexican food was regularly enjoyed, we are both hard to please when dining out. My husband loves the fish soup and the first few times I ordered food it was great. We did take out every week during quarantine to help make sure they stayed open. Unfortunately, they quit caring about their food and service. They always got the soup right, but my tacos got worse with every order. Many times they left off the rice and beans. I tried other items while my husband kept having the fish soup. They gave me two tortillas with a full order of steak fajitas that I paid extra for because meat prices had gone up. Tonight was the last chance. We have company. I placed an order and picked up. The carne asada tacos were an ugly brown. They should have had rice and beans, but they were not in the package. I called and was told they were too busy to fix the problem. I raised my voice in disbelief and then it was all on me. I went back and excuse after excuse. The kitchen, the meat supplier etc. i never got an apology. They did give me rice and beans. This is so sad because Gustine needed a great Mexican sit down restaurant. Unfortunately, they don't care if a regular customer is happy so they will no longer have us as customers. read more

We have been going to this restaurant almost once a week for the past year and the food is amazing!

Staff was super friendly even when we modified our burritos. Food came quickly, and was delicious. Tortillas taste homemade ymmmm. They have a great menu and a large beer (bottled) selection. We will be back. They also have the basic kids chicken nuggets and fries for picky eaters. read more

I enjoy the food here, I usually get takeout and they are always really friendly and nice. The food is virtually prepared in front of you as the kitchen is somewhat open so it is easy to see that the food is made to order. I usually buy their shrimp dishes which are always great! Maybe it was an off day, but I have never had such horrible Mexican food, except in Canada! I had a shredded beef Burrito that was cold, the rice still crunchy and nothing had any flavor at all. Well, I would have loved to have given this restaurant a five star but for the following reasons I could not. First, their style of food. I wouldn't have been disappointed if they had at least listed on their menu that they use a "Puebla" style in their red enchilada sauce. I have NEVER eaten at a Mexican restaurant where their red sauce tasted like theirs! I found out ( after the fact) that they put Mole in their sauce. I hated it! I do not like Mole and I have NEVER, EVER had any Mexican restaurant put it in their red sauce. It's the fact that this type of information wasn't put on their menu or mentioned when I had ordered. Secondly, our table had pretty bad service. No one ever asked us if we wanted refills or something else to drink (Hello! That's up selling right there) nor if we liked everything or if the dishes were ok. I actually regret the tip I left because I tipped way more than she deserved. Now I am not saying all their food is bad because it's not, but if your style is different than the more common type, at least let it be known on your menus PLEASE. I may give them another chance but not order my favorite thing (red sauce, cheese enchiladas) and try something different, without sauce. We shall see. read more

Well passing through on our way home to Az but staying close to the Pilot. We stayed here on our way to Oregon but had a sub par meal at Anderson's. Don't get me wrong the pea soup was yummy and so glad it was vegetarian so Zinny (my hubby) could also enjoy it! But the grilled cheese wasn't even melted and all I got was 1 1/2 pieces of rye bread so they made it into a weird triple decker non grilled cheese. Anyways back to The Mexican food...so I read lots of reviews and read between the lines and chose El Picosito. So glad we did! The enchilada sauce was tasty and rich! The ceviche tostada was amazing and such a great balance of lime juice. The waitresses were sweet and accommodating especially to our little 2 yr old! Very much worth the 10 extra miles away from our hotel! The pricing was decent as well as the beans and salsa and the Spanish rice was soooo yummy! I am more of a refried beaner but wow loved the rice!! The beer selection was great and it seemed like a place that locals really enjoyed! One of our waitresses was new and the only criticism would be to have her try more of the menu items because I always ask what the waiters favorite is...fake it til ya make it if you have to buy if I had to pass through this town again I would be trying more of the menu for sure! read more
