This spot was so great. Recently moved and wanted to give this Peruvian place a shot. Let me just say I will be back! I got the arroz y pollo in white meat. I was scared it would be dry like in previous reviews but I went for it anyway - and it wasn't! The chicken was great in both moisture and flavor. And the rice was a burst of flavor flavor from the first bite and all throughout. I don't know what kind of soup it came with but it was complementary with the rest if the meal! My wife, daughter and I came here early in a Saturday this past weekend of December 4 2021. I gotta say this was our usual go to when it came to Peruvian food but from the moment we walked in it was disappointing. There was absolutely nobody there to begin with and we had to seat ourselves, which we took the liberty of seating ourselves wherever we pleased. It took a moment for the lady to even realize we were there and only cuz my daughter was being somewhat loud. She was excited to eat. We decided to go with the usual order which was a pan con pollo which the only serve for like 2 hours in the morning, a pollo aguadito (chicken soup) and a salchipapa. Were told they don't serve the soup till later in the morning which was already strike one. Either someone was late and didn't make it early enough which is bad business practice. So we opted for 2 pan con pollo. My wife ask for the Inca soda which cups with a lil bit of ice and this lady seemed to wanna be funny or something cuz she literally gave my wife like 2 to 3 ice cubes in a cup which was preposterous and I asked for a coffee. It take her a minute to get us both. She then give me the coffee with no sugar so I ask for some and she gives me fucking sweet and low. At this point she struck out many times over. We just wanted oírle food so we can try and eat as quickly as possible and get out. She never came to check on us till it was time for almost leave. So that was service and now onto food... We receive the salchipapa and the first thing we notice is the fries were super greasy like as if they weren't even given a shake to let the oil drip off second they weren't even salted and third they were stone cold. We never received the complementary warm bread with butter and aji sauce which I didn't notice till my wife pointed out when we had already been in our car and ready to leave. The pan con pollo was good but the first thing I noticed on mine was this huge piece of gamey ass skin sitting literally on top of the bread as if it was purposely out there like the chicken is supposed to be inside the bread, not on top and if you're anything like me which I hate skin, gristle and fat. I'm immediately disgusted. It seams this place has changed ownership cuz I didn't see the usual gentleman I would see which I assumed was the owner. My wife and I agreed we may never come here again. We will most likely be taking our business to pollo inka express in Hawaiian gardens. read more

This is a fine neighborhood restaurant with a good variety of Peruvian dishes. You get a cup of caldo verde and some small rolls with your order. Menu is hit and miss for me. The chicken is awesome, but the lomo saltado is on the greasy side with tough beef. Attentive wait staff. read more

Why is this place so busy during lunch?? Because the food is AWESOME!!! On Atlantic near 60th in LB. The lunch specials are around $8-8.50. It comes with a yummy homemade chicken soup. Soft little rolls with the awesome green sauce magically appear on the table. I had the Pescado ( deep fried fish topped with sautéed onion & tomato) & rice. The fish was crispy & flavorful. My MIL had the Lomo Combinato (Lomo Saltado beef plated atop beans). Peruvian cuisine is a favorite of mine. (I also like El Roccoto in Cerritos & Don Felix near Children's Hosp LA). This place does a GREAT JOB!! Feel the lunch specials are a great price considering the amount of food you get. Will have to bring the rest of the family by to check out the other dishes..... Parking lot is fairly small. (8-10 cars?). Street parking in residential area across the street. Staff is super nice and helpful. They also have a drive thru.... Update: 8/18 Returning for lunch since in the area. This place never disappoints. Had the Saltado de Mariscos(seafood pasta). My friend had the Saltado de Camarones. Both were GREAT as expected. As usual, the hot little bread rolls with green aji salsa arrived. SOOO good! Rolls so hot and hey almost scorch your fingers. The cup of homemade chicken soup was tasty as always. This small little place is usually packed on weekday lunches with working folks. On this particular Saturday, 75% full with families/couples. A couple of months ago, I was working the Lakewood/Long Beach region and in need of authentic Peruvian food. I was craving it! My coworkers had never had Peruvian before, and all I could think about is that homemade green sauce. It's so good, you put it on everything including their biscuits. I looked up local eateries nearby the office, and stumbled across El Pollo Imperial. The reviews speak for itself and I had to come in. I picked a place nearby and brought my coworkers in on a Friday for a celebratory lunch. The venue is a hole in the wall establishment, with tight parking, and in a questionable area. However, the food will keep me coming back. We all ordered the lunch special Loma Saltado. Portions are huge and the food was delicious. The green sauce had heat and so much flavor. As part of the lunch special, our meals came with chicken soup. The table was automatically served with fresh biscuits. The lunch special was $10 and so filling. Very disappointed. The customer service is awful. Also, they do use faucet water for their beverages. It makes me wonder if they're also using it for their soups and in their meal preparation ...no bueno. One can only Infer that the owners are valuing cost more then their customer"s health. This is especially concerning, since it's located in a low-income community where we know businesses take advantage when considering quality. also, the chicken portions in the prepared meals such as the saltado are minimal to nonexistent. A friend requested that I try this place and we tried it during the lunch special. I ordered the Chaufa De Pollo with reminds me of chicken fried rice and my friend ordered the Lomo Saltado. I really like the flavor of the food. The food - it's good for the price that you pay. The portion size is great and the price is very affordable. The service - we were serve immediately after being seated and served bread with the green sauce . I really enjoyed how soft the bread is ; also the sauce is very flavorful. The environment- it's a small family owned restaurant and you can feel that vibe ; however I think the tables should be throughly clean before sitting anyone down. Also keeping a fresh smell wouldn't hurt as well. If you live in the area it wouldn't hurt to try and see for yourself. My friend and I had two totally views on this restaurant. I used to fight people over how good this place is! Everyone would say El Recotto is way better and I'd have to hold back the urge to slap them across their face and argue that the food is way better here for a much better price. That might still be the case but man was I sooo disappointed at the treatment me and my girlfriend got Sunday August 1st. After a long day at the beach we were looking for a place for dinner and I reminded her of my favorite Peruvian place where I've taken her on several dates and we both love. We looked up the hours and saw that it closes at 9 and it was about to be 8pm but we weren't far so we figured it would be ok. Just in case we decided to call in and ask. You never know due to COVID a lot of business have been impacted and things change. We were happy to hear from whoever answered the phone that the restaurant "closes at 9 but doors close at 8:30". Literally word for word. So since we were close we decided to go for it. We got there at exactly 8:10 and walked in to a slow restaurant. There were only 3 tables being served. I looked at the waiter and told him "for two please". He asked for here or to go? I said again "two for dine in" he looked pretty peeved. Looked at his wrist watch like 3 times to probably emphasize the time. Then said "uuummm actually we are closed". This is the point I should've just walked out. Taken the L and come back another day. But no I had to speak up and say that we called in and were told doors close at 8:30. He looked even more peeved and said "well fine take a seat". Then proceeded to ask "but you won't take long right" I asked excuse me? Again he said "you're not going to take long to eat right?" I responded I'm here to have dinner at your restaurant. I don't know how long the food is going to take but no we don't plan on hanging out. We are hungry. He gave us menus and walked away. Again I should've probably just left at the point he was trying to convince me to leave by asking if we were going to take long. But i don't know if it was my pride or not wanting to look like a little bitch in front of my gf maybe I just really wanted to keep loving this place. He comes back with the little panesitos and ahi sauce that they always give you after a minute which was nice but he literally just threw them on the table and asked "what are you going to order". It had been only about 3 minutes since we walked in and the combination of him being so rude and us being so hungry we had been a little overwhelmed and hadn't decided what we want. I told the server "could you give us just two minutes we haven't decided yet." To which he responded with a "ugh" and looked up and down from his watch like 3 times and just stood in front of us. At this point It had been enough. Our dinner and appetite was officially ruined. My gf was so upset at the way we were being treated and i couldn't believe this guy was being such a douche bag. I finally said "you know what it's ok we will just leave" he gave us a half assed "no it's ok" to which i responded in Spanish man this has literally been the worst treatment I have ever got. It's not ok to treat your customers like this. I asked him if I could speak to the manager to which of course he responded that he was the manager lol. And i was very upset and told him he was a piece of shit in Spanish. Vela puritita Verga to be exact. Owners if you read this, I love your restaurant and was so disappointed with the treatment. I get it tho I've worked in restaurants and hated last minute stragglers. That wasn't us tho. We were well before the "doors closed" time. If the manager reads this. I'm sorry I lost it at the end and was vulgar to you. I will say that you need to learn how to treat people. Your causing business loss to a delicious restaurant that is very underrated and you don't help with that nasty attitude. Either close the doors earlier or leave and let someone who cares run the place. Hate to complain but man this one hurt. I brought my gf here for the first time and she loved their ceviche mixto. I ordered their stuffed baked potato; it had ground beef with boiled egg and it's served with their spicy salsa. The combination was perfect! You can taste all the spices and the meet is perfectly cooked. We also ordered a Purple Cork drink which is Chicha Morada. This drink is a must have when coming here. Their ahi salsa is also very delicious. Overall this is one of my favorite places to eat at and my gf was glad I brought here. read more

So I went to Cali to visit for the first time and decided that I wanted to be a true tourist and go to different parts of Cali and told myself I wanted to go to long beach. Why, I don't know. But I'm glad I went here. I had to give this place 5 stars. I had chicken with cilantro rice and my friend had the same but with white rice. That chicken is delicious. I have a few Peruvian friends that introduced me to their amazing cuisine years ago, and all of them vouch for Imperial's quality! No fancy overpriced dishes, just flavorful home cooking. Every dish I've had over the years has been superb, but I can't stop ordering the "Classico", Lomo Saltado y Ceviche Pescado...Que Rico! One of my favorite Peruvian food spots in all of Long Beach hands down! The Lomo Saltado during their lunch special is one of my go to grab and go eats to come get and eat at home! Recently I tried out their cilantro rice with the lomo saltado and it gave it a great kick to to overall meal. One of my favorite things about this spot is their green sauce that it comes with, I'm not 100 percent sure what is in it but all I know is that it is savory, tasteful, and bursts with flavor. The first bite of throwing the packet of green sauce with the beef, fries onions, rice and other goodies is top notch. Thank you for not being one of those food spots that is not stingy with their sauce! It has a great kick of spice with it, best part about the lunch special is that you get a side of their soup on the side along with the bread. Used to give green sauce with the food. Today ordered $44 and give only 2 sauce. After asked for 2 more they want to charge me $.50/each which is very lame. It at least should come with 1 sauce/dish. It's not that much to ask. I drive through there all the time and always asked for sauce but this time the lady that serve me wanted to charge me more. PSA: This review is for take out only. Not my personal favorite for Peruvian food, but definitely not the worst either. We wanted something flavorful that would be open past 7 pm & opted for 1/2 chicken with a side of plantains and marinated onions. Their sweet plantains (more commonly known as maduros in other cultures) were excellent but the chicken could have used a bit more flavor and the onions were barelyyyyy marinated. I'm not sure if it was because it was just women this time or what (we usually have one Hispanic male with us). But when I asked to speak with the manager, she over talked me and wouldn't let me express my concerns. She also wouldn't look at me while I spoke, she looked at my Hispanic coworker. So good I came here twice during my last trip to Long Beach. Love this place for the delish food and quick service. What to order? you ask. Lomo Saltado (all day, every day) if you don't eat red meat they have a chicken option that looks good, but I've never tried it. the green sauce... warning: you will want to put this ish on everything! and I would recommend that you do just that! Put it on the bread. Put it on your lomo saltado. Put it on your finger or just take it from the bottle right into your mouth. You won't regret it. Or maybe you will. But who cares? You only live once. #yolo (I never thought I would ever use that hashtag in a review!) The arroz con mariscos is tasty (Insider tip: ask for the spicier red sauce to go with it!) They also serve Chicha Morada (a tasty Peruvian drink) or you could order the passion fruit drink if you like things a little tart.
