Yikes! Ordered Double Protein Mexican Salad. Where is the 'double' and where is the salad? Very small portion!! Also ordered Triple Tacos Al Carbon. Got cold, store bought tacos with dry chicken scraps. Chips was stale (reheat?). Not sure I'll go back. One star is generous. read more

The food is amazing and I would rate it 5 stars for sure, I've never had a dish I didn't like. The music, however, is the most atrocious thing I have ever heard. The menu first and foremost.. I saw two groups come in behind us and leave, because the menu is scarce in definition. Example: Cool its a chicken bowl....but whats in it?, whats it look like?, how does it compare to X. Those groups left solely because there were no photos backing up the menu. Look at TC, PR, or TB...all have photos to back up the menu. No one is going to google the menu online in store to see photos. The people taking orders seemed agitated- while I believe the manager (older larger lady) and head line cook were simply talking it up next to the large chicken grill. Move the chicken around, check orders- don't talk and giggle in plain sight. For the price the bowl- not fried flour tortilla bowl- actual plastic bowl... was small. 7+ for a what I presumed was a side dish, was the actual bowl. The two al la carte tacos were packed- but for 2 dollars each, Ill go TC down the street. Same grilled chicken. THE MAIN PLUS WAS THE HORCHATA MACHINE! Oh my...first place Ive been two with the horchata machine in the states. THE NEGATIVE- two past times we have gone the horchata machine was "out". We asked if it could be refilled or if there was one behind the counter for the drive through. The lasy rudely said, No! Were just out!, and walked away. Asking in the most sincere manner, as I was craving horchata, then being snapped as was a negative. Lastly, comparing to another place with the word pollo in it. The beans are made to be more 'fresh' hence the flavor isn't fatty and no pork skins are in it. Don't get me wrong, the beans are great, but not 'spanish' true. But I get why they did it- the group they are catering to may not want it. Overall, its okay- but for the cost and past two times the service was sad (being open less than a month and employees are already short), I won't make it a regular pit stop. read more

Craving El Pollo today and decided to make a 30 min drive to this location. BAD DECISION!! Got my drinks handed to me and then told to pull forward and they would "bring it right out". After seeing 5 cars behind me pull up, get their orders and drive away, I realized I had been waiting 10 minutes. I. walked up to the window and asked the girl if she forgot about me. She very rudely said "I don't know what you're talking about, I didn't take your order!" I reminded her that she most certainly did and that I had been waiting 10 mins. The food here is very good in the sense that it doesn't feel too processed. You can clearly see the workers cooking the food and even though it might not be healthy, it feels very healthy and clean to eat which is always nice! I got the nachos and my friend got the el pollo loco bowl, and the nachos were definitely much better tasting and probably one of the best food options on their menu. I wouldn't get the bowl if it's your first time going there. Overall, it was a very plain experience and that's why I have rated it 3 stars. Nothing really stood out and it was just a basic experience coming here. Nothing too special but also not bad; just mediocre I suppose. read more

I'm only giving one star because thats the lowest yelp allows. First off let me say that I love El Pollo Loco and have been going to this food chain for years in California , I've never had any problems. However the Texas location off of University dr. appears to have different food standards . I went once and got a salad bowl and the rice was dry. I figured it may have been a bad day for them so I decided to go back a second time. That second time was no better than the first the food tasted old and like it' had been sitting out for a long time. I decided to give them a third chance and let me tell you this is my last time I will be going there. I ordered a chicken meal with mac & cheese. My family ate the food and shortly after (about 2 hours after consuming )my son got food poisoning. He had diarrhea and cramps in his stomach for three days. My boyfriend also got diarrhea . I thought it was something else because I was perfectly fine until I got sick 4 days later with diarrhea . Please do yourself a favor and avoid like the plague . Ps I really do love el pollo loco! Great new fast food option. I got the chicken Fajita Avocado stuffed quesadilla and it was awesome! Tons of chicken and avocado with great flavor. My husband got the Chicken Chipotle Avocado and really enjoyed it. The ingredients are all very fresh. The servings are huge! Neither of us finished our meal. The chips and queso are also very good. As a big fan of El Pollo Loco, coming from California and Mexico, I had to try this one. The inside was a littel messy but I noticed that there was a high volume of people since it had just opened that weekend. I ordered my favorite chicken bowl which was amazing, as well as two chicken tacos. The chicken was just as I remember and the beans and rice we delightful as well.
