The bowl had more beans than chicken, and the chicken was kinda dry. It also came with three pieces of lemon, which I'm not sure what it was for so I squeezed it all in my bowl for taste. Besides the bowl, I also tried the chicken fajita avocado quesadilla. The tortilla was kinda warm and crispy, which I liked. I think the quesadilla was better than the bowl. This was our first visit so I wasn't certain what to expect. However, I had seen reviews when this place first opened that stated the menu was confusing, so I made a point to check it out. Upon entering we were immediately greeted from across the restaurant. As we approached the counter to look at the menu, we saw a lot of chicken on the grill and I'm not sure how long it was there for. The menu here is a little too extensive and I'm a little confused by the concept. The sign out front says authentic Mexican grill, but they serve mac & cheese and coleslaw. Tacos, bowls, combos, featured items, there's a lot to see. There was a sign inside saying you can order online and that they offer delivery, so I would recommend checking out their menu before dropping in. The cashier was really friendly, but I left a little confused and wish there had been more details. We started off ordering chips and queso and to save us money I see on the receipt he included the chips with my husbands order (combos come with chips or tortillas) and then just charged us 49 cents for the queso. Saving the customer money is always nice, I guess I just like when it's explained to me. If it was mentioned that the chips were the side, it would have prompted me to ask about the size and we would have ordered a larger portion. The part that confused me is that my husband started off ordering the 2 piece combo and was immediately told that they only had the leg and thigh combo available at the moment. He was disappointed as that wasn't what he had in mind, but said okay and got it with mac & cheese and coleslaw for $6.99. However, when I was ordering I knew I wanted to try a couple of things so I asked about ordering individual pieces of chicken and was given all the options. I ended up with a fresh, steaming breast of chicken and I'm just not really clear on why my husband couldn't order the combo he wanted. There's probably a reason, but without it being explained, it just seems really odd. The breast was $2.69 and it tasted better than it looked. It was certainly cooked fresh, steaming and full of white meat. I ordered a side of rice for $1.99. It was seasoned really well and I ate all of it as well as all of the chicken. I was just surprised at the small portion for the price. I felt I got half the amount expected for the price. The crunchy chicken taco was $1.99 and it wasn't very good. It was very mushy, not just pulled chicken but smashed into a paste. I am a texture person so I was turned off by it. I also didn't care for my husbands sides though I suppose the quality of mac & cheese and coleslaw is probably what you would expect to find in a fast food place. He didn't seem to mind them, but I personally wouldn't order those items for myself on a future visit. The real star of this place is the queso! It was shockingly good, it was better than lots of sit down restaurants serve. The small side of chips was destroyed instantly and all I could think about was ordering the largest portion they have on our next visit. It was really good and you have to get some if you visit. They have a salsa bar and by the drink fountain there was tea and also a horchata machine. I wasn't expecting that! That seems like a really cool thing to offer. The salsa bar was about half empty and the area where we sat was a little dirty (I guess they serve broccoli since there was some on the floor) but we did see the staff cleaning the tables as we were leaving. As we left several employees thanked us. They seemed to be trained pretty well, that was friendlier service than we receive at most fast food places. I liked the chicken, rice and queso and would order all of those items again. However, we were both disappointed in the price to portion ratio. For $15 I expect for us to both be full, or at least not hungry anymore. Yet, we both left hungry and left nothing behind. I was really surprised by this as I rarely finish a meal out and I was picking the chicken off the bone because I was still hungry. Honestly, since we each had items we liked and we really loved the queso, we were both leaning toward 4 stars. But we had to go home and make spaghetti, so I don't feel it's fair to score someone higher than average if a normal order can't fill you up. We both agreed that if it had been $4 cheaper, that would have been less of a pain point. It just seems that this place either needs to charge less or increase their portion size, otherwise it's just an appetizer. read more

It's great except for the first 5 times. They gave me 1 avocado instead of 3 as shown in the coupon, but ISSAC changed that. He made sure I get what I paid for. I live in Oklahoma now where Pollo Loco doesn't exist (sadly) so I was pumped to see this place on the way home from a weekend in SA/ATX. The inside was way better than most other Pollo Loco's that I'd been to. It had a cool vibe! I did have to take a star off because the bathroom was really dirty :( The employees were very friendly and helpful! We ordered a chicken tostada salad and I got a double chicken avocado salad but asked for it in a tostada bowl. They were accommodating and very friendly. We did order tortillas but didn't receive them, however we didn't need them in the end so it wasn't an issue. The avocado salsa is still amazing and the packets of jalapeno hot sauce are SO GOOD. My first rendezvous with this restaurant was in 2011, in California. The chicken was so tender, juicy and flavorful I went back for second. The avocado salsa had a spicy kick that made the chicken even better. I fell in love with this chicken heaven. Six years later it's the same feeling, except the side items vary from state to state. California offers sweet potato fries, elotes and macaroni salad. El Pollo Loco in Texas offers steamed broccoli (Under cooked, dry and lackluster in the flavor department), rice (dry and overcooked), rancho style beans (plenty of pork) for seasoning among other side items. The chicken and avocado salsa taste the same which was refreshing, but the sides didn't trill me. The customer service was OUTSTANDING!!! Clean establishment The bathroom could've used some TLC. Best Chicken and Fast Mexican food in Texas! Friendly service. The gentleman taking my order checked my order multiple times before I paid. Politely asked me to park and wait for about 2 min(nice). The food... although they did not have "BRC" on the menu... they did! Awesome!!! (Beans Rice and Cheese), two legs ( perfect. No over hydrated injected chicken), and 3 Tacos Al Carbon on corn tortillas( Charbroiled chicken). The burritos were wonderfully soft and fulfilling bite by bite with the green sauce(touch of lime), the tacos where on point with just the right amount of charbroil to them with the crispy onion and fresh cilantro...(like Tijuana tacos... ok almost) and then the tender with right amount of crisp chicken legs with the unforgettable taste that says "YES BABY!!! El Pollo Loco!!!!" Don't bother with Taco Smell or any other bogus place with poor manners. El Pollo Loco has that wonderful smelling and tasting chicken ready to burst in your mouth. Was traveling thru Denton today and stopped at El Pollo Loco for lunch. Horrible experience. Cashier did not turn in our order. After waiting a long time for our food I went to check on our order. They could not find it. I asked if it had been turned in and the cashier said "no". They then brought part of the order. I asked about the rest of the order. They had no clue. I had to show my receipt so they would know what I paid for. Then they brought a burrito. Then I ask where is the taco. Well, they finally brought the taco. Four people were working behind the counter and not one of them apologized for the situation. The food was not good--no flavor and stale chips. Gave us Pico instead of salsa. Will never go back to this place. Poor service, too pricey and flavorless. Suggest you don't waste your time on this place. read more

I kept seeing ads for the birria quesadilla so I decided to try it. I probably should have questioned why I got my food so quickly but its fast food so I didn't. The texture of the tortilla was basically proof it had been sitting under some kind of heating element for awhile. I also got churros that weren't even lukewarm, another hint that nothing has been prepared fresh. Anyway, long story short I ate the quesadilla and 24 hours later I feel ill. At least the staff was nice enough this time. Eat here at your own risk. So I called and the manager offered to bring it since she was about to get off. DoorDash texted right after we spoke and brought it. There was no sauce but everything else was great. The problem was the girl on prep side had no gloves on and was preparing people's food to go (counter) orders - the kicker was she wiped her left eye and proceeded back to business as no big issue. 4:15 -4:25 pm I was about to cancel my order when the girl nearest the drive thru window handed he my complete orders (she had gloves on). "No gloves" just bagged the already wrapped items. I finally decided to try Pollo Loco. I'd wanted to for a while, plus I had a coupon, so why not, right? First of all, walking in and seeing true honest to God chicken cooking on a rather large grill right behind the registers was pretty impressive. When does that ever happen? In what is considered to be a fast food restaurant? It was a first for me, and I definitely will be back because of it. I ordered the chicken avocado burrito. It was obvious when I unwrapped the foil that the burrito was not only wrapped perfectly, which is very important unless you like all the mess when it's not done correctly, but that it had also been heated on a flat surface to a perfect golden brown to seal the burrito together. Bottom line, it was extremely yummy. Pollo Loco knows how to cook grilled chicken very well. I'd buy another one, no question, especially with another coupon. ;) And the free chips and salsa with my order? That was just another pleasant surprise to a very positive experience. read more

Reminds me of 3 star Mexican hotel buffet food, right down to the homemade chips and creamy queso. $5 plus tax for rice and beans. Good chicken and guacamole, what you get of it. This place is okay, you enter and the view is so nice. The air ducts are a little dirty and the kitchen is lowkey a mesa. We have never been here but were treated good. The chicken looked good, it is however dry because it's not made in the moment, they have a few stacked and they just grab one and cut it up. This is not the same El Pollo Loco I grew up with in San Diego... so I use the app to place an order. Estimated time 9 minutes. After about 20 minutes I just pull up to the drive through window to get my order. The woman (supervisor I'm guessing) says to me "next time you need to go through the line and tell us at the menu/ordering mic that you're here because it throws us off." She then walks over, get any food and hands it to me. Perfect. Except for the 'next time' part. Why on earth would I take the time to use the app then wait in line instead of just skipping the app? Makes no sense. To the food... ordered a couple BRCs and a classic chicken burrito. On the app when you add an item there's a box for 'special requests'. Great. I asked to please add some pico. Easy request. Hard to add pico when I'm driving. BRCs didn't have any pico, none in the bag. The Classic Chicken Burrito is a sham. A mockery of the true Classic Burrito. Call it a shamockery. It was smaller than the BRC and WAS MISSING THE CHICKEN! Huh? Now just toss it all in a bag with a wet bottle of water. Too bad I can't leave 1 Star.
