An amazing experience. Friendly staff, great portions, delicious food, quick service. Not to mention the welcoming ambiance. I cannot even believe it. Best day of my life.

TLDR/ Food: Great! Service: Decent, Ambiance: Retro, Sanitation: Clean! This was our first time visiting this El Pollo Loco location. It did not disappoint! The food was served hot, fresh, and filled with flavor. The staff were courteous and gave good recommendations for both food and salsas. I would come here again in a heartbeat and plan to whenever I am in the area! The music was weird mix of classic 50's and 60's ballads and pop that gave me hard #Fallout New Vegas vibe. The tables were constantly being bussed and cleaned by a cheery staff member and the front counter line was not too long of a wait. Ordering was easy, as the cashier was both competent and polite. This is a great El Pollo Loco and I highly recommend them for either brunch or lunch as they have a great selection of quick and delish foods! If you try it out, like me, you will be asking yourself "Seriously, why have I never been here before?" As you stuff your face with tacos, burritos, and the like. Try it, you shall see, and become a Pollo Loco believer, like I am!

Pomegranate Açai drink, chips & green salsa, and taco al carbon

I went here yesterday early afternoon while I was waiting for a rider to pick up from an international flight. It was different and closer to LAX than my normal place I would usually wait at. The parking close by is a little bit crazy and cramped. But if you maneuver around and find a good spot, that's the only battle I faced. The rest was a wonderful visit here. It was the eye-catching big El Pollo Loco overhead sign that I saw from a close by parking lot, which lured me to here. When I arrived inside the restaurant, there were only two people ahead of me. Before I knew it, I was up to order. The cashier lady helped me order as I was still undecided. Well, when I asked if there were any specials, she said no. But she told me, if you get the 3 tacos al carbon, it comes with tortilla chips and salsa and a fountain drink. Since I am all about tacos, this was an easy yes! These chicken tacos did not disappoint, and I love the medium spice green salsa I put on them as well as the red mild tomato no spice salsa that used on the tacos and dipped my chips! To drink, I had the Pomegranate Açai vitamin water. I love that flavor, so I didn't drink soda. The combo meal was only $7.92 with tax, which is economical these days . I also ordered a BRC burrito and it was so good as well! That put my total up to $13.45, but money well spent! It was cool sitting inside this place. It was clean and comfortable to wait while eating. I think I found a new spot to wait for my riders to come in! I will definitely be back here. Please give them a try too!

Yelp stated that they were closed. The restaurant said they closed at 9:30 pm. I had an avocado and double chicken salad. My sister had 2 pieces of chicken and 2 sides. She was able to get a keto tortilla. We were very pleased.

Do they make Vegan Tacos yet LOL? While I was out grabbing food for myself, I got a call to see if I'd pick up a special order for one of the celebrity guests who was craving tacos & baked chicken. I faintly remember El Pollo during my Arizona days. Yet, I don't recall the the upscale of the dining area, the quick & friendly service from cashiers, food preps & even the cooks who gave out smiles through the open kitchen window. Fresh marinated & grilled chicken so many ways. Why did it take me a few minutes to comprehend what crispy tacos were...just say hard shell tacos (smile). Nevertheless, great satisfaction for the tacos & it showed on camera. To note, you don't get charged for condiments as the self serve bar is fully stocked.

I would have liked the taquitos or whatever I've had before, but these chicken tacos worked fine. They were indeed good, as were the sauces.

As for the food/drinks, the happy hour was such a great deal. We got to try the mushroom choriqueso (which was our favorite item), Al Pastor tacos, taquitos, shrimp ceviche and two Mercado margaritas. All of this for about $70! Everything tasted great and came out super quick too. Service was absolutely amazing. Everyone's always checking up on you, making sure you're doing okay and there was never a time we were waiting on anything too long. What makes it worse is that this is not our first time with Mercado. We've been fans since the original location near The Grove and have been coming to this South Bay location for a while. We used to order takeout and dined in regularly and in the past the experience was much better. Unfortunately, that is clearly no longer the case. The service was atrocious from start to finish. We waited far too long for everything, including drinks. A single Tecate took about 30 minutes to arrive, which set the tone for the rest of the night. Nobody checked on us, nobody seemed attentive and we spent way too much of the evening just sitting there waiting. The food was equally bad. The carnitas nachos came out cold. The steak taco was rubbery. The fish tacos were incredibly dry. The birthday fajitas were also dry and underwhelming. For a place at this price point, there is really no excuse for food coming out like this. The overall atmosphere also felt off. What used to feel lively and welcoming now felt neglected and poorly managed. It was especially frustrating because this was supposed to be a birthday dinner and instead it turned into a long, overpriced, disappointing experience. It genuinely breaks my heart to write this because we have a long history with Mercado, but after this visit, we're done. There are too many better options in the South Bay to spend this kind of money on bad food, bad service and an overall miserable experience.

We were staying near LAX and I didn't want to drive too far, so we stumbled upon this Mexican spot in the cutest little downtown area ever. El Segundo, you are THAT b*tch! We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday and were seated immediately (thank goodness). Our server was super duper friendly and even had multiple conversations with us throughout the meal, sharing anecdotes and talking to my tattoo artist friend about getting a tat from her LOL. We quickly ordered some chips and queso (not free) and were blown away by how creamy and tasty the queso was. The tortas were also delicious and easy to scoop a lot of cheese on to. On to the menu, they had a good variety of Mexican dishes, but the price point, man. I thought $4-5 a taco at Barrio Queen in Arizona was steep, but this place charged $7-8 for a single small taco. I would've been okay with any menu item since it's Mexican and nothing under that cuisine could be bad, but seeing each enchilada over $30, made me steer clear of the main entree dishes. I also knew I wanted to try fish tacos, so I just opted for one fish taco and one grilled taco, with a side of mashed black beans. Crazy that some black beans also were at least $5. The fish taco was nicely battered and the guacamole was ripe and creamy, but the grilled chicken taco was nothing spectacular. There was also cauliflower tacos and beef brisket tacos ordered among us. My friend who ordered the beef brisket taco rated it 7.5/10, whereas the cauliflower tacos were rated 9/10. The food also took at least 20 minutes to arrive at the table. Both sauces my tacos came with were extremely spicy so I didn't even touch those. My friends enjoyed their meals, and the side of green rice two of them got was rather tasty. Overall, our server was the best part of the experience. She really ate DOWN, whereas our food and the price point did not.

So like yesterday, I decided to stop by and grab a burrito, but unfortunately, this will be the last time. I usually visit this location with my dad. He's been coming to this location since before I was born and I'm damn near 40. But this time I came alone and the place was packed. They don't have a big seating area. It's like a bar with about four seats to the right and four seat seats to the left so it doesn't accommodate many people, so people order to go. And that was my plan. I walk in and the server (with his chef at and money taped to it) and I grab the same menu. He allows me to have it, and he grabs another and gives it to one of the customers. I say all this to say that he definitely knows exactly when I arrived. However, A white man walks up less than a minute later and for some reason he decides to ask him if he ready to order, as if I'm invisible. This was the second time that this happened to me today and God knows how many times has happened to me in life. So at some point, I just have to stop ignoring the fact that Black people aren't welcome in certain spaces. Maybe we are by law, but not at all met with respect! That is all!

The ambiance was great and it was a really nice spot in front of the Pier. We sat outside since it was good weather, I didn't account for the afternoon chill though once the sunset. Good thing to keep in mind when choosing outside or inside. The inside was really pretty (saw this on my way to the restroom later) so I wish I would have chosen to sit inside. Now for the food, this was really the only let down. The guacamole and chips were started with was okay, slightly bland in flavor. I got the fish tacos, my husband got the Chipotle Pollo y Hongos (listed as a house specialty), got a taco and nacho plate for my kids off the kids menu. The rice was like a green rice, super bland and dry and this came on both of the adult plates. The red rice that came with the kids food was actually better. The refried beans tasted like something that came out of a can, dry as heck and again, bland. Fish tacos were meh, fish was fishy and the slaw it comes with did not have the flavor I am usually looking for when I think fish tacos. My husband's chicken was yummy, and I wished I had gotten that instead. Only con was the dry rice and beans it comes paired with. Maybe my biggest gripe was the food not tasting authentic at all, and this Mexican girl loves her Mexican food, or maybe I just got the wrong plates. In my experience, if the basics are wrong (rice and beans) the rest has little hope. However, I must say that Dessert was amazing, I got some kind of yummy ice cream (maybe the Helado Frito?) to blow out my birthday candle. It was the silver lining for sure :) Service was great, and they were very accommodating. I felt bad telling them I hated the food but I wanted to write an honest review for those, like myself, who rely on reviews when choosing a good dinner spot.
