I have been craving El Pollo Loco for a long time. But they never send me coupons in the Bay Area. When I got back to Reno today, they sent me coupons!!!! Here I come! Avocado Family Salad - Underwhelming; just lettuce and 3 slices of avocado. 4 pieces of Thighs and Drums - Good flavors, but these are some small chickens... Must be free range, LOL. I ate 3 thighs myself and I am a light eater. Side of Corn - So good. Side of Rice - Craved rice, which is rare for me. If my daughter was here, we would get the mac and cheese. Atmosphere - Typical drive thru fast food business. Good size, plenty of indoor seating but no customers. Plenty of parking. Open 7 days a week from 10am to 9pm, see picture; Yelp and website hours differ. Service - 5 stars. The "kid" was young and perfect; patient, polite, and nice. Price - $22, good deal. This is my favorite location because they are fast and the food is always yummy. Indeed, I haven't had a negative experience at this location and it's the one I usually come to - via the drive thru only. My only complaint is that the El Pollo Loco chain took the chicken nachos off the fire grilled combo menu! I mean, it's fast food. It hits the spot when I'm craving a sort of brick chicken when I don't have energy to do my own or don't want to spend double the price at a restaurant. I used to frequent the North McCarran and Mae Anne location, and at least a couple years ago, that was actually a better representation of the food imo. This location can be hit or miss, so far my orders have never been 100% correct, but not enough to truly complain. Don't go close to closing obviously, you'll get dry dry end of the day chicken. The 4 piece meal feels like a rip off at first glance but it ends up being a lot more chicken than you think. Not mexican but I love their mashed potatoes and gravy (pro tip, dip the chicken meat in it). Also enjoy their corn as it has some red peppers in it. I believe most of their sides are a-OK! My husband likes that for fast food, their salsa has a bit of kick to it. If you get fresh chicken it's even more amazing. I like their spice rub and the flavor it gives the chicken. If I'm in a mood for chicken, I tend to stick with raising canes for fried texture and el pollo loco for grilled. Like I said, it's fast food, not going to be a gourmet experience here, but it gets the job done. Be prepared for wrong orders, but I've noticed that is sort of just how things are these days. Like most places, they have an app with rewards and deals. Pro tip, set up a separate spam email account to sign up for the million things that require accounts now. I was a BIG fan of El Pollo Loco, but it has been a while since I visited and I've gotta say, the food just isn't the same. I was looking for something easily ordered for a group that was reasonably healthy and simple, and El Pollo Loco came to mind. For a group of five kids and four adults we ordered the 14 piece Familia pack with mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed broccoli, and an extra side of rice. There was plenty of chicken for our crew, but all of it was pretty dry, especially the wings and breast. Almost like it was overcooked before being held for a long time, which didn't make for a great eating experience. The mashed potatoes tasted pretty blah too. They felt like they came from a package (can't be sure) and didn't have too much flavor to offer. The gravy was also very processed tasting and not great. The broccoli was totally undercooked and some pieces were raw too, but we wanted something healthier and this seemd a good option. In all honesty, I prefer rice and beans and other Latin inspired sides over these offerings, but the crew was a mixed audience and this pleased everyone. I really like their corn pudding too. Salsas were stellar and saved the dry chicken. These are the highlight here. I also usually LOVE their flour tortillas, but these didn't feel like the same ones I was used to here. These felt like packaged flour tortillas, which I do not enjoy. The ones they used to serve were thinner and somewhat chewy, making the perfect wrap for all the goodies on my plate. These were not the same. All in all, I don't think this is the same restaurant I used to love and I'm going to have to think about it next time it comes to mind. read more

I bought lunch for myself and a friend a few days ago. I went through drive through, had the worst service. I ordered an 8 piece family meal. Lunch for the 2 of us was over $40 dollars because I asked for white meat. The server practically threw the meal at me, slammed the window and I had to knock on the window to get the drink I ordered. He acted like I hadn't ordered a drink and almost threw it at me again. To top it all, my friend and I got horribly sick that evening and for 2 days after the meal. It must have been food poisoning. Thank goodness we didn't finish the meal because we may have ended up even more sick. We called to complain and so far nothing has been addressed. Will never go back. read more

Consistently good chicken, how can you go wrong with crazy chicken food! This is not my first dance at El Pollo Loco. Due to SIP precautions the salsa bar is no longer open so if you forget to ask for their fantastic salsa verdi, bummer. This is a consistently cooked chicken no matter which El Pollo Loco location the order is purchased from. I tend to always order a family meal of legs and thighs most times. I've ordered their sides of either black beans or their regular beans and rice and of course corn tortillas. I ordered from the app and I don't know why you have to sign for food when you pick it up. Couldn't you ask to see my order on my phone or better yet you should provide a code for customers at pick up if it's that a big of a deal. I was made to feel like a thief or was I singled out? Does drive thru or ordering at the register have to sign for their food too? Ridiculous. Today's complaint. I went and ordered 2 Double Chicken Avocado Bowls from this location, the order was bagged up. Upon getting home, we opened the salads. THERE WAS NO AVOCADO IN EITHER SALAD. Supposed to get 10 piece but received 8 piece and was over charged. The beans and rice was bland with no seasoning or salt, just ridiculous! They gave us 3 little hot sauce and nothing else when we asked for other sauce and pico. My wife took a picture of the menu inside and she caught one of the incompetent employees not wearing their mask correctly that was cooking and cutting the chicken. My wife already contacted corporate and we'll also contact the health department and the covid19 department to let them have a visit at this location for not following the covid19 health guidelines. The food is Always great. This time we ordered and paid online. It was easy and fast. It also told us approximately what time our order would be ready. We drove through the drive through and instead of ordering we told them we had ordered online and gave our name. They said "your order is ready, pull on up". We picked up our meal took it home and had a delicious dinner. We ordered the chipotle chicken avocado burrito and the chicken avocado burrito. It was quite a lot of food for 2 and under $20.00. My husband picked up tacos at El Pollo Loco this week for the first and last time. They are mini mini tacos with very little inside them! This place is a joke. It's all high schoolers working here so they don't care about your order or if it's wrong. They just give you whatever they feel like. OMG! I just had ankle surgery 5 days ago, and we have been so blessed with people bring us meals. It's been awesome! But last night, I really wanted Mexican food. This place needs to do quality checks before giving the food to customers. We ordered the 8 piece family deal. The chicken seems like it was not fresh off the grill but has been sitting there for a while where it became dried and chewy. It comes with 2 large sides, 4 churros, and an avocado salad. The avocado was old and brown, and they still gave it to us. Lazy incompetent workers could've just swapped it with a new avocado(see picture). One of my go to places to grab dinner for the family on busy work nights when I don't have time to cook. They mail out coupons on a monthly basis that makes it even more affordable. I usually just get chicken only, since we pair it with salad, rice or veggies at home. The chicken is good. They offer a fresh salsa bar with various salsas. The avocado salsa and their medium red salsa are my go-to choices. I've also tried a few of their salads for lunch, and they are surprisingly fresh and tasty. The times that I have ordered inside, I've noticed the restaurant is kept clean and the workers are friendly. If you are craving chicken but don't feel like cooking or getting the rotisserie chicken from your local grocer, then El Pollo Loco is a good choice/alternative. read more

We order from here quite often, mostly because their chicken is almost exactly like Santa Barbara Chicken Ranch (if you've ever been, you know.) Although sometimes it is slightly overcooked (reason for 4 stars) it's still good. Basically, if you order beans and rice, chicken, tortillas and salsa, you're good to go. Bonus points for the staff that ALWAYS throws in a ton of extra salsa! They are the best! I don't like their menu as there are so many choices and the chicken meals aren't on the board. I do like the way its grilled and not fried. Today I went to El Pollo Loco located on South Virginia and let me just say that the experience was less than thrilling. The service was not the problem the real culprit was the food. I had a chicken tinga burrito and a couple hours later it had me in the fetal position over the toilet. I know that there had to be something going on with that chicken. I feel like it has been out of the food safety zone for quite a while to make me throw up and diarrhea. I usually never write reviews But I feel like I have to warn the general public to be cautious of this place. I work in the food industry and have a very strong stomach so for food to make me feel this sick something is very wrong. A great little spot to stop for quick bite. Their tacos are solid for a fast food chain as are the nachos. The nachos are overpriced for what you get but the shredded chicken on them was damn good! The staff were friendly and our food came out quickly and as ordered. Many 'mom and pop' style mexican restaurants that serve street tacos are closed on Sundays, but not here!
