Today I went to El Pollo Loco located on South Virginia and let me just say that the experience was less than thrilling. The service was not the problem the real culprit was the food. I had a chicken tinga burrito and a couple hours later it had me in the fetal position over the toilet. I know that there had to be something going on with that chicken. I feel like it has been out of the food safety zone for quite a while to make me throw up and diarrhea. I usually never write reviews But I feel like I have to warn the general public to be cautious of this place. A great little spot to stop for quick bite. Their tacos are solid for a fast food chain as are the nachos. The nachos are overpriced for what you get but the shredded chicken on them was damn good! The staff were friendly and our food came out quickly and as ordered. Many 'mom and pop' style mexican restaurants that serve street tacos are closed on Sundays, but not here! I waited a while thinking they were really busy and were just backed up. But when other customers coming in were already getting their food, I was thinking, "Those idiots forgot to put my order in." Went here yesterday to grab a bite while running errands. I got the chicken black bean bowl and it was just awful. I've been a fan of El Pollo Loco for years but I guess it's changed since I last had it. The chicken was dry, chewy and without any flavor at all. The broccoli was warm but totally raw. The beans had no flavor. The rice had no flavor. I was shocked at how bad it was. I took 4-5 bites and threw it in the garbage opting for a protein bar that was sitting in the bottom of my purse. The family meals here are a great way to fill the family up if you have 2 little kids. The chicken is juicy and really good. My first world problem is that I only like eating white meat chicken so sometimes I have a hard time with their tacos or burritos because I end up picking a lot of the meat out. My favorite thing here is the avocado salsa. I could drink it or eat it on literally anything. If you're in the mood for soup, the tortilla soup is yummy. When calling to inform them of this they essentially call us liars because they "double checked the order" but they would replace the meals anyways. I must start with - I love El Pollo Loco. Unfortunately, do to my great anticipation, I was expecting too much and failed to realize that like any new business, it takes some time to work out all the kinks. While I am greatly impressed by the great renovation and the number of people working and eating there, I was let down by the food and the service. The cashier didn't know the menu, the chicken was blackened and dried - not usual to the other El Pollo Loco locations. I think, I'm just going to wait a couple of weeks before going back to this location in hope to see some improvements in service and food quality. The Crazy Chicken!! This was our first visit to this locaton and we thank you for serving up four great meals. The facility was pretty busy which would explain the cleanliness of the tables and surrounding areas that needed a little attention so I'm sure it's not normally like this.. The food was pretty good and the mac and cheese...Oh man, so good! I ordered the double chicken bowl (more like a rectangle plate if you ask me) which was really good but it only came with two 6" tortillas...really...I wonder if the regular chicken bowl only comes with one tortilla.... I hope not because that would be wrong. For the amount of food that is served, I feel that 6 tortillas would be a better portion to be served but next time; I'm bringing extra tortilla's with me...Lol. From the time the order is taken to being served was pretty quick service and the crew was pretty friendly considering the flow of business was quite busy. We got a family size portion for us and this usually feeds about 4-5 people with a bit of left overs. At least in my family. The driver through is awesome and convenient. We got a few other small items but is came out to be around $30-$35. Which isn't to bad considering it feeds 4-5 people with a small bit for leftovers. They have a good staff here. They are proficient and got our order out in a timely manner. We where in and out of there in about 10 minutes maybe less. The wait was not very long. It should be quick right? It is fast food! There is plenty of parking if you want to dine inside El Pollo Loco. Their bathrooms and dining areas are clean. I never really had to ask to get a table cleaned for me. They are usually clean when we go there to eat. Our experience here was good. The food quality is good. It isn't the best food in the world but you can't beat it for the convenience and price. We have called El Pollo to inform them and they stated they will send the meals. After an hour of no delivery we attempted to call them unsuccessfully as they have taken the phone off the hook. We needed a meal before going to the airport and didn't want "fast food". Online, I ordered the $20 "special" - 10 piece with sides plus an add-on of 4 tamales. I picked it up and when I arrived home, I discovered there was NO chicken in the order, just the sides and 8 tamales (which were just okay, nothing special. In fact, the masa was hard on 2 of the tamales). Mistakes happen, so I called the restaurant anticipating they would make an adjustment or credit. The young woman I spoke with said she couldn't do anything because it was an online order and I needed to call the 800 number. I told her the order was shown correct from the online printout AND the ticket printout from their location matched - this was an error in THEM filling the order. She took my phone number and said she would contact her manager; I never heard back. I also tried calling the 800 number and was on hold for over 5 minutes. I then sent an email to the corporate customer service address and after 5 days, have still not received a response. So.....there are lots of options for take-out. Ordered dinner for delivery last night because they were offering free delivery. They said it would be delivered by 7:30pm. At 8:05pm. And several phone calls with the delivery driver who couldn't even hold a conversation my wife decided to go get the food herself. The restaurant is SIX minutes from our house! No discount or free meal because we screwed up only we're sorry but we have had a lot of problems with our delivery drivers. Are you kidding me! I am not one to ask for freebies but when you screw up you make it up to your customers. The driver never did show up.
