Wrote a review on this place in May 2014. Turn the clock ahead to 2024. Came here on a Wednesday at 1130am. The place only has a handful of customers, with more staff. Had a bunch of coupons which expire today. r. Eight pieces of dark meat has increased in price from $10 to $18. At Safeway eight pieces of dark meat costs $10, while Kentucky Fried Chicken sells the same for $25, although my previous review has 8 pieces of KFC for $10. I order the $12 meal for two, and the $11.50 double chicken tostada, each order with a $2 off coupon, which expire today. Service is very fast -in a few minutes my order arrives to take home. They pack five containers of salsa with each order. At home, I eat 1 piece of grilled chicken with the 3 sides of rice, beans and salad. The chicken is very tasty, but this is a 32 ounce chicken, smaller than what I expected -not the same size as the 48 ounce rotisserie chickens at Costco for $5. So eating 3 pieces of El Pollo Loco chicken is like eating 2 pieces of the Costco chicken. The chicken is very flavorful, but since it is so small, there are a lot of bones, even from the legs and thighs. By the way both Costco and KFC serve the 48 ounce chicken, whereas El Pollo Loco and Safeway and Smart & Final serve the 32 ounce chicken. Didn't care for the lime dressing that came with the salad, nor the watery gravy with the pinto beans. Mexican rice was delicious. The double double tostada comes with two portions of chicken, guacamole, beans, rice, cabbage, cheese and salsa is huge and can feed two people - a very good value for $4 in 2014. In 2024 the cost is now $11.50 One of increasing number of places where Spanish is the predominate language spoken in the restaurant, although the counter person spots me as an English speaking customer, given that I'm Asian. read more

What a solid place to eat freshly grilled and tasty chicken. I loved this place and have been coming here for years. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, side dishes were very good too. Tostada is my favorite here. Quality mostly consistent. Service is great and food is delicious. They have the best team during our visits in the last few times. Very polite and helpful staff. A fast food place for some tasty chicken. The several times I've been here it's been fairly consistent and fairly cheap. Not the best quality, but not horrible for the price and quantity. I like all the side sauces you can self serve. The chicken could be more bones and less meat depending on the batch, but it's does have a good taste to it. Service could be very slow when there's a line and I've had it acouple of times where they messed up my order or forgot an item. I would always check everything's there before leaving if it's in person or even mobile pickup. I normally get the chicken bowl because it has everything you need and is pretty filling despite the size. read more

Good quality food, friendly staff and clean restaurant. The food comes out quick, hot and fresh.

I've been in this place twice. The food is consistent with other El Pollo Locos. However, this place has a serious issue with dampness and mold. It is almost suffocating to breathe in there from the moisture in the air, and the smell of mold is very strong. I'm not sure how the employees actually, get through a day of working here. It just feels very unhealthy to breathe. It might help a lot if they had an air intake and outflow system that brought fresh air constantly recirculating through the building. It feels like there is no recirculating air. I don't know if they have one or not, but if my suggestion helps....they should get one. I'm not inclined to return here simply because, I'm not sure how that affects food, and it's not comfortable to be in the building. The staff at this store are fantastic, but I like talking to the people who work there Why can't you leave what works alone. We have come here a few times and found the food to be superb. There is one employee who stands out, Kevin! He has been there both times and is so polite, friendly, helpful, and wears a great smile. We had questions about the kiosk, and he was right there to help. 5 stars for him (HE NEEDS TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED). Food is always A+. read more

One of my lazy to go spots to visit. Chicken can be hit or dry. I used to order from door dash here to supplement my wife's old Keto diet. I always get a combo meal here which gives with your chicken: warm soft tortillas, a few tiny cups of salsa and a salad. It's decent chicken at the very least. Saturday, 2/22/25 - CLOSED I was planning to have an EPL dinner tonight but... I arrived about an hour ago and it was closed. The parking lot next to it was blocked off. Great find of the week! I drive by this place countless times, but today was the day for lunch. First of all, the servers here are the nicest, and hardest working staff that I have seen in a long time. From the start, the cashier takes your order with efficiency and kindness, which is rare to do both. Then once your order is taken, the others work quickly to get it up it. I can tell by their communications among each other that they work very well together. Like a beautiful harmony and feels like a family. Since I decided to dine in, I was able to enjoy the festive music and also observe the service with the other customers. It's humming during lunchtime, but they get it done! I ordered the 2 piece chicken, breast and wing, with sides of Mac n cheese and corn. Can I say? The chicken breast was Uh-Mazing! Skin was crispy and seasoned, the meat was juicy...I love a good flame grilled chicken! The Mac n cheese was ok, and corn had some type of sauce, more flavorful than what you get at other fast food corn. As far as fast food choice out there, this is not that unhealthy. Foodie like me, if the food is legit and good, gotta give them props. Oh, and there are coupons for next time you come back! And yes, mamma, I will be coming back and trying the rest of their menu. What is there to say? The Crazy Chicken is a fine dining experience that doesn't cost like a fine dining experience. They have tortilla soup and excellent salad bowls, and freshly cooked chicken. Go if you haven't and go again if you have. read more

I really like this El Pollo location in Sunnyvale. They are always so willing to help you out with an order when things don't go right. Today, Petra helped me with an online order that she took the initiative to ask her District Manager for approval on an adjustment. Most places just say sorry and move on. I called their number, and they told me that the Sunnyvale, California restaurant is temporarily closed for renovation. They are supposed to reopen on February 27, 2025. read more

I ordered a taco and burrito (with no beans requested). The taco tasted delicious... but because the burrito was full of beans, I could barely eat it. I don't like to waste food, so once beans were discovered within 2 bites, I had to cut the burr in half lengthwise and hand pick all of the beans, then eat the burrito with a fork and knife. It took enough time picking out the beans, that the "burrito" was cold and not enjoyable to eat. I will go to a different El Pollo Loco location next time. read more

Delicious food!! Excellent service! And... Birria! We went at a very busy time; so we stood in line outside the door for a few minutes. We were there for takeout but while we waited to order, I noticed the dining area looked very clean, And I loved the festive decor created by the colorful papel picado banners hanging above the order counter. We ordered the 12-piece chicken meal with a mix of white & dark meat and sides: rice, Mac n cheese, salad with creamy cilantro dressing. We also ordered a cheese quesadilla, 2 orders of churros (4 total) & a shredded beef Taco Birria box. Our order was perfectly prepared & packed with plenty of little containers of salad dressing & pico de gallo salsa. Everything was so delicious! The chicken was perfectly grilled; we love that tasty citrus marinade. The sides were very good too. We especially liked the salad sprinkled with small tortilla chips instead of croutons. The salad dressing perfectly complimented the salad ingredients. The quesadilla was very satisfying. For some time I had been hearing about the popularity of Birria & I've been hoping to get a chance to try it. I was so excited to see it on the menu with 3 options: tacos, quesadilla, or burrito. I decided to get the taco box to try it out. I'm so glad I did because it totally surpassed my expectations! The box came with 2 generous sized tacos & the dipping sauce. The shredded beef filling was very tasty with perfect seasonings, chopped onion & cilantro. Each taco was wrapped in two layers of crispy corn tortillas. The birria dipping sauce was incredibly flavorful; it made the tacos even more awesome! I just wish there had been twice as much sauce! This was such an amazing surprise. I loved it so much that I actually wanted to go back the next day just for another Birria box! It was that amazing! El Pollo Loco is advertising that the "Birria is back". So I guess it's only here for a limited time. I know they are called El "Pollo" Loco. So having beef on the menu is quite unexpected. Had another enjoyable visit to El Pollo Loco. Went to try their new chicken wings and fries because I had been sent a $5 coupon. It was pretty busy when we arrived but they quickly got through everyone's orders. The cashier, Rana, was very friendly, even asking how our day was going and having a genuine conversation-- it was refreshing that he seemed interested in making our experience better! Giving him a big shout-out for excellent customer service. =) The fries took quite awhile but were deliciously fresh as a result. There is very limited outdoor seating at this location (just a couple tables), but a decent amount of indoor space. Two bathrooms, both gender neutral, okay cleanliness. No words can explain the treatment I received yesterday at Pollo Loco in Santa Clara. I went through the drive through with my children. I ordered a few pollo bowl meals, taco meal, kids meal and 2 chicken tortilla soups. I received my bag with pollo bowls and soup inside the same bag, and another small plastic bag with my 2nd tortilla soup. I park in their parking lot because they are infamous for forgetting food items and utensils and I want to make sure all my food is there. I open the larger bag with my items and immediately burn the fingers. The soup was placed in a plastic pollo bowl container not the normal soup container! The lid has melted into the soup causing it to spill all over my order and into the bag. As I attempt to save my soup I get burned all over my hand and my kids food was drenched with soup. I then try to take the other soup out of the 2nd bag and same thing the lid has completely morphed and melted. The lids to the soup were so hot they melted! I immediately go inside Pollo Loco with hopes to get a quick refund for my soaked food and troubles (my burned hand). I even take one of the melted lids in. I ask to speak to the manager and they sent me this young guy (who I found out later to be just the head chef) I tell them what happened to my hands and the lid of the soup and the spill onto the other food. I was not met with remorse or any sympathy. Instead I was told to bring the food that I want to return as evidence! I go back to my van and realize this is completely insane. I walk back inside and ask for assistance. Already wasting so much time because my kids need to eat and be back at school. So I tell the same guy at the counter I need help if they want to see the food as evidence. He then tells me oh we're swamped with people and can't help you yet. Ummm excuse me!? I couldn't believe my ears. So I told him no I need help now I have to leave. So a few minutes of just standing there he finally decides to follow me to my vehicle. I attempt to just show him the half spilled soup but he wants me to hand him this boiling soup. So I do. I pick up the soup and continue to burn my hands again because he is insisting I bring it in to show his manager. I continue to yell out "ouch it's burning my hands" He then tells me I need to bag it up because he can't take it in like that. So I very painfully put them In the bag. Keep in mind it's spilling all over my hands and the floor. We walk inside and finally he gives me my refund for the 2 soups and 1 meal!! I had to burn my hands not once but multiple times to prove to them they had faulty lids. And what did the manager say? " Oh we ran out of the soup containers and had to use these containers, sorry for the inconvenience" Inconvenience is an understatement! My children had to wait in the van and see mom get burned multiple times and treated poorly by Pollo Loco employees. This is not ok. No one should be treated the way I was treated. I called their corporate office and am waiting to hear back and see what the next steps are. Not sure if this is a lawsuit. Today I got a response on my Yelp review. The manager from El Pollo Loco asking me to email their corporate office with feedback. Apparently they didn't read my review as I already called their corporate office. They pretended I was invisible again. Finally got my order at 6:10. Best part? When my wife called to complain, they said they ran out of chicken. Really? My husband and I visited this location of El Pollo Loco to grab some quick dinner and we were completely disappointed by the taste and service. We ordered a 4pc grill chicken combo and chicken shredded nachos. The chicken is quite bland and very dry, and only 1 piece out of 4 looked good, the remaining pieces are either dried up wings or rib with hardly any meat on it. The nachos were fine but needs improvement. The environment is quite shabby and our waiter was not fluent in english which made it very confusing to order. As a cherry on the top there was a homeless guy dining-in with an extremely questionable behavior which made us very uncomfortable. We would never visit this location again. P.s: My family and I visited EPL couple of times at other locations and loved the food. read more

I ordered four of the Vegan Chickenless Pollo Tacos and one of the Vegan Chickenless Pollo Burrito. Unfortunately even though I ordered everything online, someone wasn't paying attention and the tacos still came with their queso fresco (which would make them just the Chickenless Pollo Tacos, nonvegan version). Also, when picking up I overheard someone get some extra pico de gallo to go, and asked for the same (which I got - the person was very friendly) - they mentioned I could specify that when ordering online, but even looking back now at the online ordering interface, I don't see any place to do that. If that is somewhere on the ordering site, o'El Pollo Loco IT dept - maybe make it more obvious (or add it if it isn't in there). I also ordered the guac and chips - the quac was definitely better than I was expecting for a fast food place. Both the tacos and the burrito were just ok, and they didn't exactly digest, uh, smoothly (even having removed the queso fresco the best I could). Ordered online using the balance of my gift card plus my credit card for the remaining amount. They took my gift card balance and charged my credit card for the TOTAL amount. When I contacted customer support, all they said was that the gift card was used and there's nothing they can do. I have receipt proof but it doesn't seem to matter to them. We had El Pollo provide the food for a baby shower. At 11:45 everything was ready for pickup. Everything was hot and packaged to stay that way. EPL provides everything from napkins to small plates and hot sauce to all types is containers. We were very pleased and the guests had lots of compliments. Good job team EPL.
