Wow this place is amazing! The atmosphere of this tiny family owned restaurant takes me back to Guadalajara, Jalisco. My senses were tingling as I walked up to the restaurant to see the whole chickens being masterfully grilled over charcoal. The smoldering, smokey flavored, succulent, chicken on the bone is seasoned with the MOST AMAZING ARRAY OF SPICES. The re-fried beans here are like a spoonful of heaven and have humbled me as I have admit that these beans are far superior to my own. The fire roasted chile de arbol is to die for. For years I had driven by this little hole in the wall on Foothill Boulevard and noted it merely from the delicious aroma of the BBQ smoker out front. It stayed written on my little mental note stashed in the back of my brain until I pulled it out last night while thinking of something fast and new for a quick take-out dinner. Had the chicken burrito platter (also available with Asada) that came with rice and beans for around $7.00 which is a really great deal for a hefty sized burrito chock-full of juicy marinated and grilled chicken with rice and salsa coupled with beans and rice on the side that were every bit as good as Mama used to make! The food was freshly prepared and the aroma from the grilled chicken permeates the whole place. The owner and staff greeted me warmly and chatted briefly while waiting for the food and he predicted that I would be back. Well, he's right! I will definitely go back for when you gotta have that chicken fix! Our office recently discovered this hole in a wall and we are hooked. The chicken here is the best we've had. We have some picky eaters and they've been loving the chicken from El Pollo Pio Pio. I like to eat, as you may know from reading my reviews, and the food here is great. I once made the mistake of ordering the half chicken plate with 2 lengua tacos and it was enough food to feed 2-3 people. I have been ordering the 2 taco 2 piece chicken plate with two sides and it's still a lot of food but I manage to go through it. I have only ordered the rice and the coleslaw as sides and they taste pretty good. The owners/employees are all very nice. It seems like it's a family joint and they have been busy every time we have gone. I highly recommend this place! read more

It was 90 degrees, and we were hungry and wanting to try something new. While looking for a taco place, we settled on EPPP, mostly b/c it stood out w/ colorful signage and funny name. There was plenty of street parking right in front of the door, and I got my order of 1/2 chicken platter+ 2 tacos in less than 10 minutes. Chicken was well seasoned, moist & flavorful w/ crispy char on the skin. The standout item was the thick homemade corn tortillas; so much better than the machine made flat ones you get at most places. Portions were generous, and we had enough for lunch & dinner for under $12. Now that I'm writing this, I'm getting hungry. Think I'll head over on my way home to pick up some dinner! read more

So simple, but unbelievably good. Chicken is amazing -- whatever they marinate in, however they smoke or grill it, it's possibly the best I've ever had. Then you add their homemade salsa and you have a combo that makes me feel like a crack addict. I can easily eat a whole chicken and still be craving more, however full I get. I was in the area getting my car repaired (see my review of Arbi's Auto Repair) and was famished. There isn't much going on in the neighborhood, so I stopped a teen walking down the street who looked like he may be a local. I asked him where a good place to eat was and he told me to "If you like Mexican food, then for sure, go to Pio Pio." So we headed down there. It was a little mom 'n' pop place that didn't have a lot of options. I went to the guy in the window and asked him what his favorite was. He said the 2 or 3-piece chicken plate and the carne asada tacos. My sister got the tacos and I got the chicken plate. Heaven! The flavors were perfect and the meat was really fresh! They made this homemade hot sauce there, that they really should bottle and sell. I've never tasted anything like that, but I'm craving it already. I would even venture to say that it was the best Mexican food I've tasted outside of Mexico! My sister and I labeled this as a "hidden gem." I actually liked this place it was descent. We got a chicken with rice and beans, and since it was our first time and a Saturday we also got Pozole and some tamales to try out. Chicken was descent but needed some more salt but it was good, rice and beans where good too. The Menudo was surprisingly good but not as good as my dads :) the worst thing was their Tamale. It was horrible, the sauce was way to spicy with these red flakes and the maza was too hard. I would definitely come back though and I hope they can always get it right. A little hidden gem in Tujunga. I've been going here since they opened in 2010. They're a small family owned restaurant and I love that about them. The owners have always been so humble and remembered me even after not veined there for 3 years. The food has always been so delicious and fresh. They make everything in house. Always have freshly made tortillas, which I love! They have the best salsa too, smoky and mild spice. Now their chicken is their staple here. It reminds me so much of the roasted chicken I use to get when I lived in Ecuador. I highly recommend this place if you're ever in Tujunga, it's a little hole in the wall but definitely a gem.
