My experience has been mixed. I've eaten here twice now and, while the food is very good and their horchata is absolutely delicious, the service hasn't been the best. As an example, I recently called in a to-go order which I showed up to pick up about 15 minuted later (they told me it would be ready in about 10). Upon letting them know I was there to pick up an order, it quickly became evident that my order had not actually been worked on which, to be honest, isn't a big deal in itself. What was odd, though, is that nobody took accountability as every server said they had not received a phone order. At that point, I thought I might have called the wrong location but a quick check of my phone's call log confirmed (both to me and to them) that I'd called the correct location. Stopped in for lunch just as the restaurant opened this past Sunday. My husband ordered 3 tacos Al Pastor. He said it was the most authentic he had ever had. I enjoyed the carnitas tacos. Our server was efficient, knowledgeable and quick with taking our order and serving our food. Salsa and chips are complimentary. The restaurant is decorated in the typical Mexican tradition. The only thing that was disappointing was that we were sat in a booth which the table and seats hadn't been wiped even thou we were the first to eat in the restaurant that day. Was craving Mexican food so decided to stop by here. We ordered the Texanas fajitas for two and a side of queso. The food was a little bland and not very seasoned. There was also so much grease at the bottom of the fajitas that we weren't able to finish it because the food was dripping with it. This place has gone downhill quickly. The server we had took over 20 minutes to get our drinks for us after asking for our order twice. The food came out incorrect in 3 of our 4 dishes. The salad was skimpy and the Texas rice was doused with cheese sauce making it super salty. Waitress checked on us 1-2 times the entire meal. We won't be back. This has been another one of my favorite on and off restaurants for the past decade. The first location I went to was the one in Kirkman Metro West area when I was a college student . They still serve some of the best affordable Mexican food I've ever had! The decor and space gives the nice hole in the wall, Mexican restaurant style vibe . The service here is always nice with the servers, always being polite and attentive . You can't go wrong with any of the combo meals. they are pretty great size portions. They can easily feed two people! Last time I was here, I got the combo with the one chili Romano, one taco, and one enchilada. Everything was delicious and completely covered in cheese! Who says no to this amount of cheese?! Definitely one of my favorites and I will be back soon ! read more

I'm so disappointed in the poor service we received. We got there about 5:50, and I asked my server if I could still get the 2-for-1 margaritas. She hesitantly agreed although it ends at 6. She got me and my family drinks, the host brought over chips and salsa. They asked a couple times if we wanted change tables, although nothing was physically wrong with our table. I now wished we had moved because it's clear she didn't want to take care of us. And the waitress in the section behind us looked the only one happy to have customers. Anyway, another server took over our table, and she seemed very new. She took our order, the host and runner brought it out. And 30 mins later I'm stood looking for someone to bring boxes and the check. No second marg, no refills on regular drinks. The food was tasty as always, but poor service is probably why it's not I'm not surprised there's only a few diners in the last few times I've been in. Shout out to the hostess and Tatiana, they are always excellent, so the next time we're willing to give it another try I'll ask for her, if she's not available we'll spend our money elsewhere. read more

We stopped in for dinner last Sunday night while waiting on our son and what a cute little restaurant! We love Mexican food and I can't believe this is the first time we have dined here. Well, we've lived over by International Dr. for a while now which could be why. But it won't be the last time we come here. The salsa was probably the best I've had! I ordered chicken fajitas which came out fresh and sizzling and they were delicious, as well as my husband's birria empanadas. Great service!! While this is a typical strip mall Mexican place, service was above and beyond what most places are providing now. The server was very prompt and checked back often. The is a large selection of combo platters and special plates. I had the enchiladas verdes. The chicken was well seasoned and they give a large amount of sour cream which I like. The decor was what you usually find, some murals on the walls and southwestern furniture. I liked that the music was soft and quietly playing in the background. This location recently opened at Conway and Hoffner and we stopped in to try it out for lunch. We were quickly greeted and seated. Our server was Ivan and he was very friendly and attentive throughout our meal and everyone else working there we encountered were also super nice. We were given chips and salsa as soon as we sat down which is always great. I really enjoyed their salsa; it was a smooth style which I prefer and had a nice little kick to it. We chose to order from the lunch specials menu. I always like to try staple items my first time at a new spot, so I chose the Speedy Gonzalez special with a taco, enchilada, and rice. My boyfriend tried a combo with two tacos and a cheese quesadilla. I wasn't sure if we could swap meats so we just went with the default ground beef, but I'll definitely ask next time just to try their other offerings. The food came out quickly. I tried the taco first which was yummy. The cheese is melty and flavorful and the beef was seasoned nicely. The enchilada was tasty and I enjoyed the sauce. I tasted my boyfriend's cheese quesadilla which was also good and will definitely try one with an addition of a protein in the future. The rice was also tasty and well seasoned. The lunch sized portions were a good amount; I finished all of my food, but was quite full after doing so. Our bill was just over $20 before tip so very reasonably priced. I love El potro and continued to eat here for years (mostly winter park), ever since I moved, this was my new location. I have always supported the smaller establishments especially when it comes to food; however, the recent price increases are to much. Enchiladas used to be $10, then they creeped up since 2020, now they are $14.50. Im sorry but the price of chicken, and the price of tortillas didn't change at Costco. I can still buy a big bag for $4 of corn tortillas and chicken breast is 2.99lb. I understand raising prices but it needs to be done smart. You want to sell more food for less to more customers instead did raising prices on the last of your customers. Eventually they will leave forever. In 2020 I went 3x a month with my family, I was a regular at the winter park location. Then came the first price increase, shortened it to once a month. Now with the recent changes I'll be going back to my family friends Mexican enchiladas recipes for my family. It's so cheap it's a no brainer. I feel bad for the employees too because less customers means less tips, raised prices also means lower tips. I stayed with el potro because they didn't raise prices like the rest of Orlando, now they are right up with them for items that don't cost that much to begin with. There's a reason the inside of the restaurants no longer fill up, and it's not just because the buffet is gone (and I do miss that). I also ordered Uber eats a lot with them and the prices were higher on there, but now it's equal. They offered specials like buy one get one sometimes where as you don't get this inside which is wrong and it only hurts the employees. Never understood this as winter park offered random specials in the past (not sure if they stopped now too). When I did take out I would order extra food, extra order of enchiladas and chimichangas (especially half order), which also spiked drastically in price, for the next day. I really hope they reverse course and make prices reasonable again to entice customers to come back. Until then I say farewell and good luck. For anyone looking for cheaper authentic Mexican food, Try Taqueria Las Cazuelas! Not only are they delicious they are cheap to. Only $11 for enchiladas! This is my new go to local Mexican restaurant, unless el potro reverses course. read more

(9/8/2022) came by for a celebration dinner with another couple, this is location is conveniently close to us. It's pretty much like any other "Mexican" place around middle America (kind of like there's the same Chinese menu at every "Chinese" takeout place). They've got your standard combo plates (taco, burrito, enchilada, chile relleno, tostada, chalupa, etc.), chimichangas, fajitas on sizzle plates. I made a poor choice, I know, hot wings in a Mexican place. They were fine, just wings fried hard with buffalo sauce on the side. Best plate of the night was the Carnitas platter, which was tender, long-roasted pork butt or shoulder. Prices are very reasonable, and they did have Thursday night NFL on TV over the long bar. Could be a good basic neighborhood restaurant and bar, hopefully the cursed location will be good to them. read more

Anytime someone says let's do Mexican food - I am down! Chips, salsa, margaritas, tacos - how can you say no? In a shopping plaza, this hidden gem is likely somewhere I wouldn't think of visiting if in the area, but I'm glad our friends took us here. The vibe inside is authentic Mexican meets not wanting to go overboard, but I'm here for it. We didn't sit on the bar side, but in another room. Our server (Sal I think) was super nice and attentive to our drink needs and ensuring we had tons of chips/salsa for our large table of people. The menu has a lot of options (overwhelming amount for me) so I opted to try one of their combination plates to try more menu items. Everything was really good! Seasoned well, hot, not greasy - just GOOD. I had one large coronarita which was just ok. I'm not a fan of margarita mix (I prefer fresh lime juice) but it wasn't a bad drink.
