Ive been coming here ever since they opened over 10 years ago and everyone in the neighborhood knows where to go if they want good authentic Dominican food. They carry the full gamut starting from Mangu Pastelitos to Pernil to Rotiserrie Chicken to Jugo de Chinola to Flan. Cant name one specialty because everything sells well but you cant go wrong with the Grilled steak w onions with rice and beans. They have a full bar with every Wine and Spirits you can think of on the menu, I always get a nice Red Wine with my meal They always like to decorate around the holiday season so its nice to stop by and see it. Love this place. A nice Mom and Pop restaurant. I blame them for my addiction to Hennycoladas (Henny in general!!! lol). The rice con gandules is really good & their fried snapper is exceptional. Every bite was seasoned to perfection. The prices are decent. Street parking is always hassle-free. TV all around so it's also a good place to watch a sporting event. read more

Their restaurants are pretty popular and they are very sought after for take-out. I would describe their food as being average; pretty good but nothing special. One winning factor that the restaurant possesses is that the food is very cheap. You can get a large plate of rice, beans, and chicken for $5.50. Some other recommendations from their menu are: mofongo, guandules, mangu, and morir soñando. They also make a mean Dominican breakfast (mashed plantains, fried cheese, salami, sausage and onions). One downfall is that the waitresses are a bit on the snobby side and don't seem to be very interested in checking up on their tables. Just my observation. read more

The food is great. I say it gets 5 stars . Place looks clean BUT... THE SERVICE can be a hit or miss. I hate it when I have to wave for the waitress. Some of them got attitude. In terms of food, El Rey II deserves a 3.5 star rating. I'm a big fan of their oxtail and enjoy their maduros and bistec, but other dishes and sides have been hits or misses. Due to its inconsistent but primarily slow and unfriendly service, they get an overall rating of 3 stars. The biggest problem is most employees do not speak a lick of English, making the ordering process painful for customers. We've ordered for delivery and pickup and neither choice was better than the other. We've ordered for pickup one time, arriving 30 min after we placed the order (as advised) and still had to wait 45 min at the restaurant. Oftentimes, staff members can be quite rude as well, with the exception of a couple. I suggest ordering directly at the restaurant, oxtail preferably, and taking it to go. This place has gone down the drain. I usually order 2-3 things from them when I do order but that won't be happening again. 1. The food is hit or miss. 2. They have the most ignorant, airhead waitresses I've ever seen in any place of business. 3. The unprofessionalism on a scale of 1-10 is a 10.5. I've just never seen this type of behavior at an establishment before. It is really shocking. They cannot even answer the phones properly. 4. It does seem that the service is different based on what ethnicity you are. 5. The language barrier is a bit much. You should not pick up a phone speaking Spanish unless you have some way to identify that your callers are fluent Spanish speakers. Horrible, just horrible. The food was delicious, as most Dominican food is. The service on the other hand was horrible! Our waitress had an attitude, she literally walked out on us with out having another waitress replace her, and it wasn't because we were being problematic; we're a laid back bunch. The food here is undoubtedly top notch for the price and the portions are EPIC. However, when i frequent here, which is about 50/50 take out and Dine In, the dine in service is lackluster. I absolutely had it with this place this past Saturday. I had a party of three and we found our seats immediately around 1:15 pm. We were seated and given menus and flatware immediately. We order our food but not asked if we want drinks. She came back 10 minutes later and asked us what we would like to drink. Soon after our food arrived. We ate. Were not checked on or so much as had a waitress walk past for us to even flag down. The place was getting extremely busy and still no one even walked in our area to flag down for the check. Finally my sister managed to grab a waitresses attention to ask for the check. I had my card handy ready to pay and I noticed we were charged for plantains that we did not receive. i just asked her package them up and we'll leave. When our waitress finally came back I told her that I am very upset on how long we had to wait which was almost an hour for the check. She had no apologies. She shrugged and said "What do you want me to do, you have the check now." So I tipped her 41 cents for her apathy and lack of customer relations. And the women in the front that take orders barely speak any English and continuously have to be told what you want over and over again. Basically very good dominican/general spanish food. Diffenitly the best in all surrounding neighborhoods. So much so, a 3-4 time a week spot for me and my family. Great prices for very good tasting food. I mean if you want the best go to somebody's grandmothers house. But in terms of typical domnican it is very good. Things like pernil, chuletas, bistec salteado, even just there rotisserie chicken is very good. They even have good breakfast and a morir sonando. I only gave it 4 stars because I eat here so often they can get sloppy with simple things like stale tostones and dry chicken. But it happens. The biggest pluses are once you become a regular they are very friendly. The serving girls aren't bad to look at either. The menu is much bigger then most spanish places. Already a staple in my life because I'v been going almost sinced it opened and way before they even fixed up the joint. Again dont bother looking around for better spanish food. I dedicate this review to my sister. This is our neighborhood. Raised here and if you have ever been on "city line", you have been to this spot to eat. Since the beginning of time this has always been a spanish resteraunt with several different owners and with time, the food got better and better. Currently they are El Rey and the food is excellent. It is clean and you can go here anytime for a sit down meal or take out. The chuletas are so good but the ensalada de pulpo will make you cry. When I eat here, I feel at home. This place is always packed. A lot of people around this area are always ordering food from here. Delivery always takes about 30 minutes to my house. Food tastes good here as well. I always get the Baked Chicken with White Rice with Beans on the side and Plantains. I tried this Shrimp inside Chicken thing once and it was good but pricey (20 dollars) just for that. However, there is some downfall. The food only seems to be fresh and hot on weekends and around 1 PM on weekdays. Trust me, I've been here many times and I notice the cycle in here. Service is mediocre most times. The ladies always forget to bring napkins and extra utensils. They tend to forget orders sometimes as well. Tried a burger from here once. Nope never again! The owner is an amazing Guy. Will fix any problem you have whenever he is available. However, the women that answer the phones for delivery or pick up orders are absolutely awful! I read the reviews and decided on this place to get my fix for a Dominican breakfast (tres golpes). The place was easy to find and spacious inside. There was no wait for seating and you seat yourself. The waitress came right over and gave us menus. The waitress was nice and worked in a timely fashion. Spanish food done very well. I've had the arroz con pollo and it was top notch. They have a diverse menu that covers breakfast through dinner and some parts are a bit eclectic for a Spanish restaurant. A bit odd to see a menu with everything from spaghetti alfredo to pig ear stew to goat stew mofongo to traditional pancakes but they pull it off well. The food is good, but they always have your order wrong. Everything they deliver to my house, something is missing or its wrong. They dont know how to take your order, its the 4th time that happen. I will not order from there again. Im dominican and I speak to them in Spanish. La comida es buena, pero siempre cometen un error o te ponen lo k no es. Hacen todo rapido y te tiran la comida ahi a lo loco. I like this little Dominican turf. The food are always good as long as you know what you are ordering as most of the menu is in Spanish. My favorite was blackened pork chops, goat stew and more and more rice l beans ! Did I say rice and bean? Yes I love it! Wife like the rotisserie chicken. Service was average nothing remarkable not as attentive as I'd like it to be but they get their job done. Do t order the mufangas they don't just sound weird they also taste horrible, very very salty. Their drinks I'm not sure about, first time I ordered a drink that wasn't a beer was a patron margarita and it was strong! One drink after a single beer knock me out of the park and that is rare. Anyways they charged me only 5 something so I was very pleased but next time around when I ordered the same drink it came out weak and they charged me like 12 bucks which was rather disappointing. Perhaps they made the first drink with cheap tequila and put some extra shots in it and next time they made it with patron and put a shot in it. Oh well. Don't forget to try the tres leches! All I can say is YES!! This will be me and my husband's new spot!! I'm 6 months pregnant and was craving mofongo soooo bad. I looked up good Spanish restaurants around that area since I know there's a lot and none at all where i live in Rockaway beach and found this. We there and got there relatively fast. I parked and ordered by phone for pickup. I was surprised to see that the restaurant is across the street from the doctors office I went to as a little girl over 10 years ago(it's no longer there). We had breaded chicken cutlet, mixed mofongo, white rice and beans, and a salad. OMG. We were in food heaven it was Sooo good. And they even hooked us up with LOTS of slices of buttered bread. Deff recommend eating here the customer service was honestly really good compared to most Spanish restaurants I've been to, I'm Hispanic and sometimes the people who take order can be SO rude. I'll do my second trip first since I just ate there and it's fresh in my mind. I tried simple today and went with the Cuban. I wasn't very happy with it. Although being tasty it was very greasy and when I had a glob of fat after one of the bites..... I was turned off. I know Cubans aren't oil free or particularly healthy but I was hoping not to take in a chunk of fat as I did in one bite. The bread was excellently toasted and overall was not bad as for the sandwich overall. My wife and kids loved it so I was happy.
