Even the peacocks love their food!

Every neighborhood deserves that restaurant--the one you almost don't want to tell people about because you still want to be able to keep that unique local flavor. For us, it's El Sabor Serano. Juan and his family make every customer feel like a regular, and the food tastes like someone's abuela is in the kitchen making sure nobody leaves hungry. His kids are just as friendly, and every visit feels more like stopping by family than going out to eat. The weekend pozole deserves its own review. It's the kind of meal that makes you rethink every life decision that didn't involve ordering a second bowl...who am I kidding? I've never been able to finish it in one sitting. Everything we've ordered has been fantastic--tacos, burritos, quesadillas, the vampiros--but somehow the food is only half the reason we keep coming back. The other half is the people. In a world of cookie-cutter chain restaurants, El Sabor Serano reminds you what a true family-owned neighborhood restaurant is supposed to be. Support local restaurants. Eat the pozole. Thank me later.

I really enjoyed my shrimp taco today. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and a good size and there were a good number of them. It went well with the salsa that was on it and some crunchy cabbage and avocado. I also enjoyed my basic chicharron taco. The chicharron at this restaurant is very gelatinous and soft. It's a real nice change from the crunchy kind. It's very comforting and melts in your mouth. My husband always orders their La plancha tacos which is crispy with cheese inside. His favorites are the brisket and chicharron. Today (Saturday), they had pozole for 17 dollars and change. We ordered it and enjoyed it very much for dinner. I had a ton of pork in it and full of hominy. There was not much liquid and so a little bit goes a long way. It comes with shredded cabbage, hot sauce, radishes, lemon, lime and their excellent crunchy tortilla chips. There was enough for four bowls of pozole soup. One of their daily specials was a chili relleno plate which I am very interested in getting next time for $21. The plating of the food is always very pretty here. The staff is friendly and efficient. And even though the cemetery across the street is not cheerful, it's greenery that you can see from the restaurant. The cemetery reminds you that life is short so eat some tacos. This is definitely my favorite taqueria in the Bay Area. If I didn't have to drive 45 minutes to get here, I would probably come weekly! Definitely recommend!

Clean restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is right in front and they ste right next to s liquor store so you can buy snacks and drinks there as well. The cashier did an excellent job describing their food, fhe food came out quickly, and they checked on with us to see if there was anything else we needed. We tried the carne asada tacos, vampiros chicken and al pastor (we learned that it was just like a tostada, and a birria mulito. Food was excellent and my favorite was the vampiros. The owner recommended that we try it with chiccharon next time!

Amazing stop that we'll come back to again!! We were craving a legit taqueria meal after spending a couple days camping in the area. Yelp helped us find this place on our way home from Napa. And bonus points for navigating us there via beautiful Silverado Trail. I ordered the carne asada plate that was loaded with meat and came with home made whole beans and rice, roasted onions, jalapeño, pico de gallo, and fresh avocado. Got it with 2 flour tortillas that were huge and perfectly warmed. My hubby ordered 2 of the specialty mulitas --a soft tortilla on the bottom that os crispy with cheese on top and is filled with meat, whole beans. He ordered his mulitas with carnitas that were crispy /not fatty (perfect). The plate included pico de gallo and a small chopped fresh cucumber bell pepper salad. And we had chips and homemade roasted green and red chili salsa (hot) that added to everything. Both plates were perfectly seasoned (not salty!) and delicious. Our meals were complemented by a pineapple aqua Fresca & Fanta pineapple soda--something i'd never seen & would order again. Fantastic local find and family run business. We will be back again as we love camping in the area & the food is that good!!

My husband and I recently moved to Napa from San Francisco, and while we've loved exploring the area, one thing we really missed was the abundance of authentic Mexican food we enjoyed in SF. We had our go-to taqueria there, and we had not found a similar place here--until we found El Sabor Serrano. After trying a few spots around town, we decided to give this small, family-run taqueria a shot, and we were absolutely blown away. We ordered the birria tacos and the carne asada torta, and both dishes were perfection. The birria tacos were crispy, with just the right amount of melted cheese, and the meat was flavorful, juicy, and impossible to put down. The carne asada torta was fresh, tender, and perfectly sized--not too big, not too small. The salsas were just as impressive: a mild and tangy salsa verde, a slightly sweet pineapple salsa, and a salsa roja that brought the heat without overpowering the flavors. We also tried two agua frescas: a pineapple one that was incredibly refreshing, and a mixed one made from hibiscus and pineapple, which was delicious. On top of the amazing food, the service made us feel at home. The woman taking our order was so friendly and even came by our table to check on us after we got our food. You can feel they care a lot about both the cooking and the hospitality here. We've already decided we'll be back soon--especially to try their pozole, which they serve on Fridays and Saturdays.

El sabor serrano is one of the hidden gems in Napa ca. Locate at 1017 coombsville rd. The people super nice is a family owned restaurant. So come and support them. We order pasole must try. 9.7/10 . We also order a wet burrito with refried beans 9.0/10 . So if you ever near here stop by. Highly recommend it!

Fair prices and quick service. The burritos are on the smaller size but still plenty filling. The Volcans were a great deal and piled high with meat and toppings. My only complaint was I was wishing for a little more flavor, spice and acid.

Fish, Brisket and Pastor Tacos, fresh and delicious!

We also ordered one of the dark Mexican lagers, which they brew themselves, which was really delicious. We also ordered churro donut holes, Concha stuffed with Arroz con leche and another with Guava. Everyone is warm, helpful, welcoming, and the food comes out quickly! Please visit this family owned, wonderful restaurant.

My wife and I were in Napa 2 weeks ago and heard about this restaurant from Check Please Bay Area television program. The lines were long both times we visited, but we knew about this before going. This is the oldest building in Napa and limited in size. The parking lot is also limited so allow for extra time in case you have to park further away and walk. On our first trip we had the special tacos of the day, side of beans, and the flan french toast. Wife had the mimosa flight and I had the beer flight. The food was excellent. We could not stop raving about the food to one another. The rice and beans alone would have compelled us to visit again (and they did, unfortunately). The tacos were flavorful and juicy. We had no negative notes for the flan french toast. My wife enjoyed the mimosa flight, but would have liked the mango mimosa in the flight to have had a little less juice. I enjoyed my beer flight as well. I was curious about their in house beers and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them. Fast forward 2 weeks. My wife and I had another planned trip to Napa and we made it a point to build time in the schedule to revisit La Cheve. We arrived about the same time in the day as our first visit (2 pm) and waited patiently in line. We ordered the steak tacos, rice and beans (of course) and the guacamole, because it must be out of this world like everything that they make there. Wife ordered the beermosa and I had their in house American Dream beer. The steak in the tacos were very flavorful but nothing out of the ordinary. The rice and beans did not taste as good as the first time. We talked about how good the rice was the first time and how we could just eat the rice without anything else. This time around, not so much. The rice and beans lacked flavor. Oh and the poor guacamole. The only flavor there was lime. The guacamole was over limed with chunks of onion, tomato and was in dire need of salt. My wife took one bite and refused to go back to it. The drinks were fine. In the end, the flavor of the food went from a solid 5 stars to a 0. I gave a 2 star rating because of the downward trend versus 3 stars given the 2.5 star average. Overall, I'm not sure if the 5 star experience or the 0 star visit was the anomaly. It's a significant price to pay to find out given the 30+ minutes waiting in line, the limited parking and a lost meal opportunity in Napa where there are many excellent dining options.
