The service was good and our waitress made great suggestions for our meal that we loved. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Horrible experience! Did a reservation for 8 people for my daughter's 13th birthday party . They first put us in a table that was way too small and it was surrounded by boxes. After telling the staff about the small table they put us outside where it was cold and the tables were still wet from the rain. Our food came back cold and in cardboard box containers. Our food was in sauces that was spilling out of the containers. When we asked for plates they ignored us. They did not accommodate to one of our guest who had a gluten free allergy . She ask them what are her gluten free choices and they didn't respond. Lastly I asked for my check for over 30 minutes. Frustrated we walked out of the restaurant. Our waiter came outside to the street and said you didn't pay. I then responded I have been trying to pay for over 30 minutes we have an event to go to. I paided and left no tip. Really enjoyed this place. Stopped in for lunch and totally enjoyed it. The decor is not what you would be normally accustomed to but it worked. If you are looking for high end dining and high end decor you will not be pleased but if you want a laid back environment then this is the place to be. No plates, no silverware but it is all good. The food makes up for the lack of plates and silverware. For starters we ordered the chicken empanadas and was blown away. Normally we order them elsewhere and they give you a mini empanada or they serve you one but cut up in pieces. Not here you get two large empanadas and you spread the hot sauce and they are off the hook. For our lunch my girlfriend ordered the mofongo and I had the Bulgogi. The mofongo came with pork chicharrón. Now you may get away with it from someone else but not us, it was not chicharrón, it was a good serving of pernil but it was not crunchy. I ordered the Bulgogi and I was totally impressed by it. Did not know what to expect but I loved it. Shredded ribeye over white rice, sprinkled some of their hot sauce over it and it just took it over the top. For drinks we had the jungle juice (Sangria) and our only complaint was that it was served in a glass which was too small. I would have loved a larger serving. Overall we loved the decor, the laid back feeling and the food. By the way the servers were great also, very attentive and helpful with their explanation of the menu. The concept and visuals of this place are really cute. The menu holds a variety of street food dishes from all over the world. Pretty unique ideas for a menu. The food was just alright. Very bland. Every item was missing something from it. Possible more thought into the ingredients maybe. The drinks are ennh, I ordered the jungle juice which tasted like nothing juice . The items that were place to order were tostones which were cold. Shrimp taco was alright , shrimp was heavily breaded. The empanadas were good. Elote off the cob was ok. The fried noodles were ok. The shrimp that come with the fried noodles were cut in half and heavily breaded. I think the establishment could use a menu revision. Last dessert was cool. We had fried dough with sugar. It's with a heavy heart that I give this a low rating. It certainly didn't meet my expectations. The menu is varied, and exciting. It's a great nod to food trucks and street food. Anything you can find on the street in another country, they have. The big sticking point is the use of disposable plates, utensils, etc--the reason I will never come back. I can't support a restaurant that does this. Sure, it stays with the theme of the restaurant, but when I am not sure if I am eating cardboard or arepa, the line has been crossed. The amount of waste this place produces must be astronomical. I support the environment, and compostable forks or not, I don't like to see such rampant and obvious waste when it can be avoided. Is it laziness, lack of space, or an intentional decision, I may never know. Next, the service wasn't good. The original waiter seemed great, but then they moved our table (no problem, we were happy to help and move), and then the service basically disappeared. Everything took long, and it seemed they didn't care about us. To the food: I shared an arepa and churrasco with a friend, and a tacos al pastor for myself. The arepa was fine, but just go to Valencia for a real arepa. The churrasco was the best thing I ate, and they nailed the cook on this. It was perfect medium rare, and had great flavor. But it was like $11. The taco was average, go to Rincon or the Southwest for real tacos. The sauces that were on the table also left something to be desired. Either they were too spicy, or didn't fit with the food. I hate to be this harsh on a restaurant with such potential, but I expected better. What did I miss? So, all-in-all my big disappointment was the combination of factors at this restaurant. Once they change to actual plates and utensils, I will go back and give it another fair shot. Great ambiance and menu. Love the around the world theme. When I saw they have Presidente ( Dominican Beer) had to try it and sticking with the Dominican theme order the fried plantains. It was good but I wish they had a dipping sauce for it. Also tried the corn on the cob ( elote) it was the best elote I have had in CT. The food is a lot better than the customer service. There was no hostess at the door so we had to hunt down a bartender to get us a server. Then the server proceeded to tell us that the kitchen was switching to the late night menu soon but didn't come back to take our orders. Throughout the night we didn't have one consistent server and frequently had to flag down servers just to get a drink. Visited this place on a Saturday night so I'll have to come back at a less busy time to see if the service improves. I've never seen any restaurant like this one. It's like an indoor food truck. The decor is very street, but they could use the help of actual graffiti artists/muralists to make the place pop more. Their menu features street foods from all over the world but it is lacking in real substance. It was difficult for me, someone who doesn't eat pork or beef, to make a complete meal of the menu items. They didn't even have chicken tacos which I feel is pretty standard. I settled for the shrimp taco which ended up being pretty great despite the baby sized shrimp. The chicken empanadas were decent but a bit too salty. My mate had bulgogi and also complained that it was salty. We were both impressed by the tacos. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is dependable, with a steady menu and something for everyone. One recent addition they have added is the five dollar mocktail menu! My lamb chops were drowning in oil, taking any sear away, over cooked and lacked flavor. They were tender though, so I ate them and the bartender was sweet, so I didn't say anything. Cool spot in SoNo! Atmosphere is casual and really fun - different from any place I've been. They have a good size bar area and seating space. There is a cute outdoor area with a small bar and picnic tables that you can chill and have lunch/dinner at - turf area so it's dog friendly! Menu is very interesting... you can't come here for a standard Caesar salad, be ready to branch out and try new things from all over the world! I have been following El Segundo on Instagram for a while now and telling myself that I need to stop in. I came in the other day for Taco Tuesday. We were greeted immediately and sat at the bar which ended up being a great choice. The kitchen is directly behind the bar, I ordered 4 tacos, the Chicken, shrimp and carne asada tacos were all amazing but the real star of the show was the Al Pastor tacos. The meat was juicy and flavorful being cooked on the vertical rotisserie in the kitchen, the pineapple complimented the pork to make a great combination. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Before leaving we ordered dessert to go. It was a coffee and vanilla swirl ice cream with fresh Churros and pecans loaded with dulce de leche and cinnamon sugar.
