I walked in for lunch around noon. Was greeted and sat at the bar and given no menu after being asked if I was dining in or taking out. I then proceeded to order a beer and food, which were good. I watched two separate people (white) walk in and sit down after me, both also at the bar, given menus, chips and salsa/queso, and being checked up regularly, even brought extra lime, salsas and radishes before their food even came out! I then proceeded to watch another POC customer come sit and the bar and receive similar treatment to myself. It's been some months since I've been here but I can guarantee this will be my last time going. Service was absolute TRASH! Only good thing was I was seated immediately but considering the place only had 2 other tables occupied, that's not that impressive. From there it went downhill. Get salsa and queso and chips when seated. Queso didn't even attempt to be hot. I asked for sweet tea, was served unsweet tea. Order my food and it was decent. Finally got the sweet tea I ordered but that was the last time I saw my waitress. After finishing my food, still no waitress or a refill on my drink so after abt 10min I get up to locate her so I could cash out. I'm on my lunch break so don't have a lot of time to just be wasting. Once up I see all 3 waitresses (including mine in the corner inside the booth) all with heads down in their phones too occupied to be bothered with giving good customer service. Not always this bad, but Sundays (and other days) are zoos. I'm a big fan of this taco shop and so are most of the Latin people living in Charlotte apparently because it is so so so busy especially on Sunday and especially on Thanksgiving. The service and response time was so painfully slow on Thanksgiving that I decided to lower my star rating to A4 even though it's really 5 quality food. I don't like to reduce based on service but this was particularly bad. Having said that I do really love the parts here and if my experience next time is better than it will go back up to 5. I came here for you guessed it... the free cheese dip! It was definitely worth it. The salsa was a solid 5/10 with two options verde and red salsa and the queso was a 6/10 but the fact it was free made it 10/10. I ordered a house margarita- the drink menu either doesn't exist or the server couldn't provide it but my drink was decent... one marg is enough to get you half drunk for sure. I ordered the taco Veloz, shrimp taco and a chicken taco. The taco Veloz has a mixture of sausage steak and bacon... it's cheesy and delicious but was a bit too much meat for me after one bite. Went here yesterday and the food is absolutely AMAZING! Authentic Mexican food with a lot of flavor. We didn't need to add anything. When you first come in, they give you a mild salsa, salsa verse, and queso at no cost (which continuously bring out). We did nachos, a pupusa, guacamole, chicken nachos, and arroz con pollo (chicken with cheese). No complaints about anything. Now I did go against a rule...I added lettuce and tomatoes to the nachos lol. Service was okay. This is my 4th visit here. The food tastes delicious and the service starts off good but unfortunately, the bartenders aren't attentive. You have to wait forever or get up & go ask for another round. It's a very relaxed casual atmosphere & the prices are super affordable. I only tip because I'm a tipper. I felt alienated & just sat at the bar forever waiting for my tab. Updates: They have added a new breakfast menu which is an improvement over their old breakfasts. I just tried the eggs with chorizo, and it was delicious and included enough food for two meals, at the price of just one. Overall take was "AMAZING food" with a good experience, and driving by it looks like a hole in the wall... 1.) They give you salsa AND queso (without even asking and without charge) when seated. 2.) Once seated I did ask for a margarita, the waiter said they had no margaritas, then when I asked for a beer instead, she also refused. Which was odd as my bf pointed out there were people drinking at the bar. 3.) Our server did change around a few times but didn't take away from the service. 4.) No refills, even with a glass on the edge of the table and server coming back 2x, but then I didn't ask specifically. 5.) Food was phenomenal, an order of arroz con pollo and chicken enchiladas rancheros. HUGE servings and I honestly wanted to eat the whole thing. 6.) Temperature was off, my plate was like room temperature as opposed to even hot or warm, but I noticed similar reviews and Yelp reports of the business losing points on their food safety/quality ratings. 7.) We did have to get up and ask for the check, as well as do the same when we were ready to pay. This platter comes with your choice of 3 meats, rice, black beans, salsa, fried cheese, cactus, grilled onions, tortillas and grilled jalapeños. They bring two salsas and three little cups of various hot sauces that are all interesting and tasty. The chips are thin and warm. Husband was happy with the lunch steak fajitas. Freshly made warm corn tortillas were served with it. I asked for veggie fajitas with onion and tomato only. It came with green beans, corn, peas, peppers, onions and tomatoes. Which should have been great, but it was a little odd. Not the flavors I expect in a fajita. On the plus side, most of the veggies were clearly fresh (not canned). There were about 6 menu options containing eggs, but I'd never heard of most of them so I didn't know if they had meat in them. Other than those possible egg dishes, there was nothing vegetarian on the menu. So that makes it a bit difficult if the server doesn't speak English well. Keep in mind - I leave this "as good as it gets" by Charlotte standards :) I am BORN AND RAISED Arizona, and within the past 18 months moved to Charlotte,.. Luckily I found this gem early on in my relocation, and it is THE BEST and CLOSEST thing to "legitimate Mexican" food as I possible --- and trust me, I have SEARCHED and been disappointed. It is about a 25 minute drive from our house, but we go here every chance we can. It is the most legitimate Mexican food (and we are often times the ONLY Caucasian people in the place, which is a good sign to us). We love the service (although can be "slow" to American standards).. you just have to ask for things. My fiance always gets the fajitas, and I always get the pastor tacos (I tried a few others, and that is my favorite). Salsas are good, as well. The food is good. However, the service is just down right HORRIBLE. The staff gathers at the bar talking. You sit there clearly out of your beverage but no one stops to refill it. You have to ask for more chips & when the waitress brings it, she reaches over your plate & sits it down. Not one time saying excuse me please or anything. Then on top of that she clearly sees you do not have any salsa in which she has 2 on her serving tray but doesn't give you one nor does she ask. After about 20 minutes after we finished our meal, we are still waiting for the check. This has happened on several occasions. On another occasion, I stopped by for LUNCH. I ordered from the LUNCH Menu. When the check came, I was charged for the Dinner item. When I questioned the waitress, another waitress came over to explain that she had charged me for the Dinner item because my waitress did not tell her that I wanted the LUNCH item. Now when the girls are huddled by the bar, plenty of giggles n chatter, too bad they couldn't share that happy energy with their customers. Thought maybe it was just us but noticed it was with all their customers. Ordered Chilaquiles with grilled chicken- just ok. Although the grilled chicken was best part. ordered 2 red chicken enchiladas with 2 over easy eggs ( which they forgot had to remind them) , never had such tasteless enchiladas-very dry, absolutely no sauce no flavor, and so much lettuce on top I had for seek for my main meal. And most disappointing is there out of a can, let's add a sprinkle of cilantro, salsa. Hot melted creama was only nice surprise to old chips.
