This place used to be great, specially the menudo. We came and had trip as tacos. The meat was not fully cooked. We asked for them to put the meat (tripas) on the grill and they said no. We wanted to eat something (as we clearly did not want to eat raw tripes to avoid getting sick). We asked for a quesadilla with is listed on the menu to be made with a hand made tortilla. We've had it before and it's a decent size. They served us with a tiny quesadilla on a regular tortilla. When we asked the waitress said it was their miskate but we still had to pay for their mistake. We had to pay for a meal we did not eat (tacos and quesadilla) as I do not like to argue but will never be coming back here. Sad, their menudo. read more

I have been coming to this place for over 15 years, came in here tonight, ordered a mixed Fajita as I have been doing the last 4 years. I received a half order that was dry! To make matters worse, ordered an order of Jalapeños, they only brought out one instead of 3! Explained this to cashier and waitress and they both were hostile and nonchalant. The cashier became aggressive stating she didn't care about what happened to our order and we still had to pay! Mind you we never said we wouldn't pay, just wanted to let them know we didn't appreciate the service tonight. Never again. The sever even told me " she knows our order was not right " but did nothing to correct it. Smh read more

My boyfriend could go on and on about he used to come here blackout wasted and pig out on a giant torta. This would always be on his way home from the city, so it was really convenient for him. I experienced drunk eating at El Taconazo a couple years ago and I loved it. We decided to stop by again on a Friday around midnight. There were a couple people dining in, but mostly many to-go orders. When you walk in, the cashier asks whether you're dining in or taking out. We chose to dine-in. You choose any seat you'd like and a waitress gives you a menu filled with pictures and item names, but no prices--you can refer to their menu board for prices. While deciding, they give you a tiny carousel of 4 different salsas/sauces (quite spicy), limes, a white sauce, and an avocado green salsa in a mortar. They also give you fried tortilla rounds to break and dip in the salsas. This might be my favorite part about El Taconazo. We ordered 2 carne asada burritos and they literally arrived within 2 minutes. I love that their burritos come with everything...plus avocado! For $7, that's totally worth it. Everything was cooked to perfection and the carne asada was so delicious!!! The burrito was even better with their salsa/sauces. They even let us take some home! Our bill came out to about $16. If you're in the area, I would m definitely try it out. It is SO delicious--it might be my new favorite Mexican spot! Plus, the waitresses are all SO nice and super accommodating. P.S. They also have a TV with live surveillance footage of your cars, inside the restaurant, and outside the restaurant. read more

I went because the reviews are very mixed. First I would like to say this is not the closest to authentic Mexican food in Chicago it's ok at the least. I ordered chicken fajitas which were good a little simple but nonetheless good. My beans and rice had, on the other hand, a strong taste of them processing to the point of going bad if they weren't already. The chilaquiles were a joke. They added salty salsa on top of chips and said here eat it basically. The horchata was very good. The menudo was simple very simple. The tacos were ok except the pastor, whether the taste was unique to them it was just overall disappointing. Maybe you'll have better luck than we did. read more

Quite possibly the best refried beans I've ever had! I can only vouch for the carne asana, pastor and lamb tacos but they were all delicious. Really upset with the customer service Taconazo on North Ave and Kedvale has. I spoke to the supposedly owner/ manager ( Arecko) and he was so disrespectful. My coworker ordered food, picked it up and brought it to work not realizing they forgot 1 order, a torta( we ordered 6. When we called like less than 5 minutes later to tell them , he told me are you sure you didn't eat it and forgot???? He also called my woworker a liar. Seriously this was after they hung up on my coworker twice. I asked him If he knew how to count to 6 since he wants to be RUDE since we ordered 6 tortas. He than said If I wanted another torta I can come in and buy another one. WTF We are always spending lots of money there but from now on I will never step foot there again & I will be sure to SPREAD THE WORD THAT THEIR SERVICE SUCKS & they have no sense if customer service! My nieces and nephew loves this place. While I've been here before, I know there's better taco places. The tacos are expensive for what I get, I could literally count the meat on my taco. I do like the whole salsa selection. I have many years working in a restaurant and never once was I trained to do that. You have to acknowledge what you did wrong apologize and simply act. By the far the worst burrito I have ever had. I ordered a chicken burrito and it was not regular chicken, it was marinated in some sort of sauce and shredded, which the waitress did not inform me, she offered to give me the other chicken option which was just regular chicken breast, and it tasted horrible. It was too much chicken and very dry. Luckily a gentlemen came in asking for money and I offered him the burrito so he took it. Came here Sat. evening after a hard days work. I was so hungry so I ordered a Torta - which is bread, meat, beans, sour cream and cheese. They charge you extra for the sour cream and cheese however. The rice water is really tasty. There was a lot of Mexican families in there and then two african american people came in screaming about how everytime they come here people won't stop staring at them. I thought that was really weird because they came in screaming so of course people are going to stare at them! Nobody cares who comes in! Man, this is by far my favorite Mexican Restaurant. I haven't ate here in awhile since i moved a little north and I work a lot. So I managed to eat here twice in the last week, and since I ate here the first time in the last week, I've been having cravings!!!!!!!! Just right now I'm having cravings which made me write this review. I love the Carne Asada here, I prefer to eat here rather than take it to go. Especially because I love their chips and salsa. They also serve sour cream with their chips, which I quite enjoy. lol I don't have anything bad to say about this place, except no one can park within the parking lines right next to the building but that's not Taconazo's fault. Great tacos, the asada was stellar. The pastor was very good make sure to ask for Pineapple if you like it that way. Birria was ok, lomo was ok. A plethora of salsas on the table make it a no brainer for dining in. It doesn't quite live up to my top ten list, but as far as the North side goes I will be back for sure. read more

The finest carne asada and pastor tacos I've tried on my cycling taco tour of Humboldt Park. (Or is it technically Hermosa this far west?) Rice and beans were solid. Horchata was too sweet for my taste. Taqueria Huentitan across the street has (in my opinion) the best horchata in Chicago. But really, we're here for the tacos anyway, maaan.
