This place won me over because they are wheelchair accessible. I normally stay away from small taco shops because they don't have a lot of room for wheelchairs. Now for the food. I had a carne asada torta (like a Mexican sandwich) and my mom ordered the chile relleno. She said she really liked it it was flavorful and not spicy at all. My torta was good. The asada could have been a slightly more season but i didn't mind it. They give you chips and salsa while your waiting for your food and the salsa isn't spicy at all. The portions are definitely on the lighter side but the prices are really cheap. This place has plenty of options on their menu. Restaurant menu items without restaurant high prices. They even have seafood and chili Colorado. Parking can be a headache, with only a couple spaces in the back alley. It's on a busy street so even street parking gets difficult. I've gotten takeout here sometimes and the quality of their food seems to have really improved! They definitely deserve an updated review from me! Last night my boyfriend and I ordered takeout and they got the order correct When we got the food home I noticed how the fish tacos looked much nicer than the ones I have gotten from them in the past. The portions of chips and guacamole seemed bigger, which was a very nice surprise! The fish tasted great, the guacamole was fresh and chunky, the beans were very yummy, and the chips were fresh and delicious too! My boyfriend enjoyed the chips and also his burrito. I also did not get itchy either, like I do when I consume gluten, so they must be doing a great job in the kitchen keeping the flour tortillas separate from the corn tortillas! We are so glad that we came back because this place is really conveniently located on the corner of Alameda and San Fernando, so it is easy to pick up food to bring home. Although I really enjoy Don Cucos Mexican Food as well, I think we will be coming back here much more often now because this food here is awesome now! Ordered three tacos one asada, Carnitas, al pastor. The beef taco was tough but had a pleasant lime flavor. Al Pastore taco was even more tough the flavor was not authentic to what al pastor should taste like. The Carnitas however was good the salsa would be considered spicy to some but to me it was medium spicy because I like hot and the flavor was good I paid $6.75 for three tacos and can of soda price point is good. Didn't give five stars because of the meat toughness and they did not have radishes as tacos should always come with. Everyone has to have a local taqueria - I think it's a law in Burbank. This place has always delivered on a solid option for tacos, enchiladas, burritos and such in the neighborhood. Lotsa menu options, but we go here mostly for tacos + burritos. The big highlight here is the value - your dollar is going to stretch in ways here that would make your yoga class jealous. Is it super clean? Clean enough. Is there ample patio seating? There's a handful of tables, and the entertainment is fun to watch (watch the BMW Dudes show off on the San Fernando/Alameda intersection). Does the homemade salsa make me sweat? Sometimes. My personal fav is the al pastor burrito, but minus the beans. The flavor's pretty spot on with just enough heat. And it's family-owned and made with love - can't go wrong with that. Ordered a menudo and chicken tacos. Menudo was great. Good flavor. Home made tortillas. Tacos were very good too with their green salsa. Other items on the menu looked very good. I have been here a few times and have never been dissapointed. But I have only tried a few things. I always seem to gravitate towards the Carne asada fries! UGH! They are so good! And for $6 you get enough to share (But I never share). Red salsa is just my speed as well... not too spicy but still with a little kick! I've tried their al pastor tacos and they are yummy as well! I love Tapa, it is after all my favorite place to get a burrito. Now I remember a time when Tapa wasn't very good. They'd run out of guac or there would be bones in your burrito, but then, THEN, something magical happened. The carnitas were always perfectly crunchy with the right amount of spice and the pastor was oh so flavorful. And it's been a dirty love affair since then. I tell everyone about Tapatio and go about once a week. It is, literally a hole in the wall--you order and pick up your food from a hole a wall. It is dirty, greasy, cheap and delicious--and it's everything I look for in my Mexican food. It's not a very big place, like these overrated taco trucks, except that Tapa, so laden with gigantic burritos saw little reason to move and declared "Ugh, I can't move, why should I move anyway? F*** it, I'll have a burrito!" It is a fantastic place. It's got this charm where the prices tend to fluctuate wildly but never seem to be more than $6, the burritos clock in always over a pound (and yes, this is the major use of the postage scale in my office), and just yesterday I got into a fight with the guy because I was leaving a tip. I love it. I am heartbroken they won't sell me one of their new t-shirts, but maybe like an ambivalent lover, I'll break her and I'll soon sport a spiffy red Tapa tee all my own after a future visit. Some actual reading, I recommend the carnitas and the pastor and occasionally get the machaca if I'm looking for something 'lighter.' Burritos really do weigh more than a pound (the biggest so far, 1lb. 9oz.) with prices starting at $4.50 and add a buck or so for guac y crema (again, prices tend to fluctuate depending on who rings you up). There also happens to be a Mexican place right behind it, I like Tapa more--I think the food is better and tends to be cheaper and the only advantage to the other place seems to be that they serve beer. Parking kind of sucks, but worst case I suggest parking over in the lot across San Fernando and walking if you need to. We went here early on a Friday night. For years I'd always driven by and wondered what it was like to eat here. Here's a list of what we experienced: 1) The staff was completely dismissive to us. 2) We ordered three things. They got two of them correct. 3) We chose to eat on the patio because inside was ridiculously hot. 4) We were attacked by many flies on the patio because it was super dirty (cigarette butts in the planters, trash on the floor, etc). Based on the above, I will not be returning. I might find forgiveness if the food was exceptional, but it's not. Very sup-par. I can't believe this spot has so many 5-star ratings. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is because it's relatively cheap. The bad thing is so is their food. The only two times I've had food from here is when my coworker offered to pay. This is not somewhere I'd go pay to eat put it that way. I've had a burrito de carne asada and a bacon breakfast burrito. (Not at the same time, I'm fat but not fat fat). The first one was bland and flavorless. The latter had gray eggs and one slice of soggy bacon. If you do decide to eat here it's better to call in your order. They take a long time to make your food.
