I came here and Joseph helped me at the bar, and I had the most delicious dish I've ever had at a Mexican (or Latino) restaurant in my life and I've eaten at MANY, all over the world (except Mexico...yet ). I had Mar y Tierra Platter: combination platter of Carne Asada, Five Shrimp (Mojo de Ajo style), with in-house-made flour tortillas. So good!!! I recommend. This is my go-to place in Auburn. Very reliable and consistent. In fact, I have never ordered the same food twice and I have never been disappointed. Not disappointed with the drinks either, because what is a Mexican restuarant without a reliable margarita?! I have always sat at the bar with Joseph. Excellent bartender and impressively good at keeping the whole establishment moving! I am actually sad when he is not there! If I could give more stars I would! Every aspect of our dinner was 10/10! We were driving through town and I noticed the building as we got hungry and decided to stop in. The place was busy & fun, with live music playing. The atmosphere and decor made us feel like we were on vacation in Mexico. We were surprisingly sat within a seconds of arriving. Our server was amazing, super friendly and attentive. The margaritas were to die for. And the food was quick and delicious. Every aspect of dinner tonight was awesome, literally nothing could have been better (and we can be pretty picky!) Highly recommend! I will be stopping every time I am in town! read more

I enjoyed a single item plate for 12.99 -- a pork tamale with rice, beans and sweet corn cake. Hot and tasty. I wish the refried beans were a little more hearty or darker color -- they're pretty pale and under seasoned in both the dip and as a side. I have had a few cocktails here previously ( I love a good Paloma) but I keep coming back to the house specialty -- the El Tap Rita -- which is an orange muddled margarita. Very good. The Paloma was a little too bitter and I happen to love unsweetened Grapefruit in anything so it's not that. That Paloma is not a repeat but the El Tap definitely is. read more

Came in for my birthday lunch on a Friday around noon. Seated right away, order was taken in a timely manner, and food arrived shortly after. Good menu selection for people with dietary restrictions. Food is priced at about $18 a plate. One order of chicken fajitas and an order of a steak faquita salad. Chicken fajitas were cooked and seasoned well, arriving, popping hot in a castiorn skilled. Steak fajitas were room temp laying over the salad. I wish they were hot, nicely seasoned skirt steak though. Found not a single hair, but multiple hairs in my food. Sent the food back, and the experience was kinda off putting. The reseraunt manager came out and sinserly appologized, but I think the damage had been done for me. We were seated in the enclosed patio, it was at least 80 degrees in there. Waiter forgot to bring the kids water (we were all sweating at this point.) Because we had a large party, it would have been difficult to move once we were all seated. Food finally comes but no silverware. We had to wait, in the heat, for what felt like forever before we could even try our food. Because of this experience I will never go back. Decent food, ok prices, but the service was a flop and they really need to get the a/c working if they are going to pack that room full in 90+ degree weather. Went today and noticed they have raised there prices again about 20% on there most popular plates. I usually get the macho combo 3 items but decided to try one of the "big boy" plates since they didnt seem to raise it as much, well that was a mistake! Paid $24 for less food then I would have got with the now $21 macho, a very small amount of meat on what looked like a butter dish. We have been faithful customers of the Citrus Heights location for years. My wife, daughter and son-in-law decided to celebrate Mother's Day a day early at the Auburn location. What a huge disappointment. From the moment we were sat in our booth, we knew it wouldn't be a pleasant experience as it always has been in CH. CH location has always had the most amazing servers. Polite, attentive, and always giving the best service. Our server in Auburn, Rudy, was NONE of those. He was rude, barely spoke a word, hardly stopped long enough to get our order or answer our questions. I had to literally call out a request for an appetizer as he walked away from our table. He brought drinks and food and dropped them in front of the wrong person, he never checked back on us once while we ate, again- we had to hold our arm out when we walked by to order more drinks and ask for more salsa. HORRIBLE. How can the same restaurant ownership have such a contrast in the quality of their service/servers? Rudy needs ALOT of training on customer service, respect, and courtesy towards his paying customers. We will not be back to this location again. Unfortunate given we live in Rocklin and Auburn is closer to us. Rudy should be in the "back of the house", washing dishes. He has NO business interacting with your customers. read more

I've been wanting to try this place because I live right down the street. I was looking forward to an evening out but was so disappointed. Our waiters seem pretty indifferent to us. There was a chalkboard in the front that listed a special posole. We were seated the waiter came by after a few minutes and asked if we wanted drinks when we just turned around without saying a word. We might've ordered drinks if we were ever given a drink menu we didn't see him again for another 10 minutes. We tried ordering the special posole that was on the board. The waiter looked at us and said no and we said why are you out of it? He just said no we don't have it. And then was very irritated when we had to look at the menu again to make another selection, we ordered taco salad and while it was flavorful enough I have trouble calling it salad. The tortilla was overcooked. The Carnitas were tasty, but it was basically meat, beans, with a little lettuce thrown on so they could call it a salad. When the waiter came by again with the ticket, he threw it on the table, crumpled up and walked away. I know people have bad nights, but this is ridiculous. Won't return here there are plenty of other excellent Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

I have driven by this location as well as the Citrus Heights location and have wanted to give it a try since before the COVID lockdown. Last week we finally had dinner there and sadly it was very disappointing. We were seated right away and our drink order was taken shortly after we sat down. After that, things went downhill. Before ordering we were given chips, salsa, and refried beans which was decent. While we were eating chips my wife unwrapped her fork and saw it was dirty. She asked a server for a new fork and more salsa but those things were never brought to us. My wife had to go find her own fork. We then ordered arroz con pollo and seafood enchiladas. When the food came I enjoyed the taste of the rice but the chicken was very dry and some of the rice was hard. My wife's enchiladas had very little sauce and looked like it had been sitting on the counter for awhile. My dinner was supposed to come with tortillas but they didn't bring them. Also, when our food was delivered we had asked for more chips and salsa but they never brought them. By the time our server came back around I was mostly done eating so I told him about the missing tortillas but it was too late to bother with them. The waiter apologized. We had planned on ordering dessert but the server never asked and brought the bill so we just paid. While I was paying the bill my wife went to the restroom but came back without using it because it was disgustingly dirty. Right after leaving I went to the company website and sent them feedback on my visit but they never responded. This was just an overall bad experience. Waitress dropped a lime for the Corona so she went back to get one. That was approximately 20 minutes. She has yet to return with lime and we have yet to place an order. Really so-so. This location used to be a Chevys and I wish it still was. I had a solo lunch here on a Monday. The good - seating is in comfortable booths which are cozy and have beautiful light fixtures. They are also fairly private. My server was sweet and attentive, as well as helpful. She checked in just the right amount but not too much. The salsa server was also efficient and on top of things. The Monday Colorado burrito (I think that's what it was called) was a huge portion and was OK taste wise. Not so good - had to wait a while for seating. My wife and I tried this restaurant on a whim. We were blown away with how amazing the food was. The food is all prepared in house from the absolutely authentic refried beans down to the sauces. The flavor combinations are through the roof. I'm allergic to Chinese parsley or coriander, also known as cilantro, and they did an amazing job, keeping me cilantro free. The staff was over the top friendly and attentive. We had absolutely nothing negative to say about the service. They have a full bar great atmosphere and completely authentic mexican decor.
