I have been going to this taco joint for the last couple years now, and it has never disappointed me. It's the perfect spot to grab a late night snack after a night of studying or partying. Parking gets a little packed whenever they're busy, but usually spots are open if you don't go during their busy time. The lines can also get long, causing a long wait for the food. I have never regretted going though. I usually get the 6 street taco plates ($7) with al pastor and steak. I always add everything to them (onions and cilantro). They give you an option to avocado or pineapple for an extra charge. I always add pineapple to my al pastor tacos because it gives it a nice sweetness. From the salsa bar they have, I enjoy their verde sauce the best with my tacos. They have a wide drink selection including horchata and different flavored agua fresca! This restaurant has made me sick 2 times now! Management is so rude and claims to not speak English! I live in the same neighborhood and wish that I could support a local business but they are the WORST neighbors! Do not support this awful place. You will get tacos that make you sick, bad service, and probably come home with a wrong order which happens all the time! They are open all night so they attract a drunk, awful crowd that litters the street and disturbs the neighborhood! I've lived by El Taquito for two years and have frequented the establishment more times than I can remember and I have yet to write up a review. Shame on me. Why the 5 star rating? Because it's damn good and some more. Look at my pictures, how/when/where do you find someone that does al pastor on a spit? I know of only one other place that does this but the menu is much more limited and that place is weather permitting. I've had most of the meats on the menu now and haven't had an issue with anything. My favorites are definitely the al pastor and carne guisada. The al pastor is sweet and savory with a nice char on it. The carne guisada isn't soaked in a stew so you are eating a taco and not a soggy mess. The flavor in there is a good pure hearty meat flavor. I've had tortas and tacos. The tortas come fully loaded and adding anything some sauce would make this more than a healthy serving. Despite that I still throw more jalepenos and onions and cilantro on there. The tacos can get loaded up at the sauce bar, full of options including hot and cold salsas. BIG HUGE PLUS - Horchata here is unbelievable. It's got strawberries in it. How can you go wrong? Service is quick and definitely no wait. YUMMY read more

Well this place was a pleasant surprise! I was hanging out with a friend and we decided we needed some food and went to our handy yelp app and this spot was less a mile away. I saw a few of the reviews and pictures and we were in! I was surprised at how busy it was at 9:30pm on a Sunday night. We were lucky enough to grab a seat after some folks got up. We really did not have to wait too long for our food to be ready as well. I liked how the kitchen was very open and you could see all the action happening. I ordered the queso fundido and 2 tacos - brisket la famoso and al pastor. Both tacos I got the avocado and cheese added. Everything was delicious! My favorite taco was the al pastor. There were bits of pineapple and you could totally taste every piece as you bit into the taco! I loved it! I got the tacos and queso fundido for $10 ... not a bad deal at all! Decent tasting tacos but overpriced. The large guacamole is half guacamole and half lettuce with tomatoes. The mango margarita was good, but nothing special. They have a self-service option but it's not very efficient. They saw a group of 7 of us come in and were not asked anything. I've never eaten here but ordered to go. I have ordered the carne asada tacos, or as in TX fajita beef, and the chicken tacos. I've always bought a lot and bring them to the office. Just plain meat in a tortilla and it is good. I don't add that tex mex stuff, these tacos plain were good. So in that sense, they know how to season the meat. The beef is the best. That and their green salsa is so good. Not too spicy and not bland. I'm a spicy type of person so the sauce leaves enough to know there's a kick. Keep in mind, they are not stingy with their meat. So after 2, I'm pretty full. I have not tried anything else. Tacos are good enough for me. Taco Tuesday for lunch and I will be making tacos for dinner! Back in Austin and back to El Taquito. Always great food fair price. Tacos, nachos are always on my order. The new order we tried were the flautas which were delicious. I do recommend. Restaurant was very busy but still very clean. We were there on a Sunday about 5pm. I'm surprised this place hasn't expanded. The one thing that stood out the most this visit was.... DANIEL!!!!!! This guy was so great and delivered amazing customer service. I watched him ask every single table if they were ok or needed anything! He was multi tasking and always with a smile on his face. I came here for lunch and got 3 different tacos: Al Pastor, Fajita, and Pollo Asado. They all came out delicious and full of flavor. The service was fast and the prices were good. This place is pretty amazing. so far ive had a couple of taco joints in austin for my search of great tacos, and where all the others have lacked this place has completely made up for in every way. On my first visit for any location i try to order the same thing, and so it is. Al pastor, beef fajita, and bistec. The al pastor, was very flavorful and moist, cooked really well. Beef fajita, i think was one of the best here. seasoned and cooked really well, with some cheese crumbled on top, and a slice of avocado. Bistec was similar to the fajita, but was alot more moist. And not to mention they open till 4 am, amazing. only thing that should change might be the prices being a little high. We came to this location after doing some yelp research. We had a bit of a hard time finding the location, as it's tucked a little bit off the main road. The restaurant appeared to be closed, although the hours said they should have been open. We asked an employee if they were opening and he said in a hour. So we were about to go else where, when some customers walked in. A little frustrated, we decided to still go in. The restaurant is big and open inside with plenty of seats. The self ordering system could work well if it was managed a little better. People don't like to order on a tablet, but I see why it's probably easier. And ordering drinks separately is a little annoying, you stand in one line and then another to get a drink. However the food is very worth it. And the margaritas are huge and worth the wait. We all shared the queso fondito and some tacos! Very authentic and delicious! read more

I came here with my bf the first time I was visiting Austin and thought we were just making a quick stop. He told me his friend showed him this place and he's been coming here for tacos since. I didn't order anything at first, not expecting much, but took a bite of his tacos and ended up ordering two of my own when we were about to leave. I make it a point to come back here every single time I'm in Austin now. Tacos here are around $2 with an unlimited salsa bar. Get the tacos gringa style -a layer of cheese melted over the tortilla. We ordered tacos al pastor, the description that clearly states they come with pineapple however in for tacos we didn't find one single pineapple piece. What we did find was tons of fat chunks that made for a chewy salty texture that was disgusting. We also had the queso which resembled a chunk of Velveeta cheese that was melted with store bought chips and a piece of avocado to make it look authentic. I have been to this restaurant several times and I'm really disappointed with the way they handle their To go orders. This review is after speaking to them several times and after my last night's order, I think this is justified. They will put all your taco ingredients separately unless you ask for the ingredients to be put inside. This is something I never understand because by default you should put all the ingredients (cilantro, onions etc) inside unless asked otherwise and not the other way round. And even when I do ask they have failed to do it. The first time I ordered from here, I didn't even know they had ingredients separated and literally finished my tacos only to open the last box which had cilantro, onions and avocado sitting in it. Since then I made a point to try and tell them every time, during my next order I call them on phone to place the order, told the girl "Please have all ingredients inside the tacos' She has no idea what I'm talking about and passes around the phone, next girl tells me "yes of course we always do that" Umm no you don't. Third order: Grubhub, left note, same thing happened. Asked a guy in glasses next time and he tells me must be a mistake because we out them inside also. I'm not sure why these people who take orders so clueless. I asked them to fix it and they do. The other girl their tells me please write a note with your order next time. Fourth order: Online order, left several notes stating it, under each taco and in final note section too, order gets delivered. Same thing happened. Cilantro and onions in small sauce containers. No avocado and cheese which btw we paid extra for. I take it back to the restaurant and I see no acknowledgement or explanation for this but had them redo the order. I think this is just so stressful and unprofessional of this restaurant. They shouldn't be doing this in the first place, all tacos should be made with ingredients inside and not outside by default, leave it out for customers who ask for it and not the other way round. I've had the nachos which were very good and came with guacamole & sour cream & were fulfilling! There is plenty of parking and it does have a very cute ambiance. We have been coming to El Taquito for years. Unfortunately the quality overall has gone down. As soon as we walked in last night the smell of Fabuloso was nauseating. The woman at the cash register was watching videos on her phone and had an AirPod in, which she obviously didn't turn down because she couldn't hear when I was giving my order. The crema that came on the mini tostadas looked like it was ranch, kinda weird. The salsa bar was so low stocked you had to scrape to get any salsa out. I attempted to get a refund for the drink I had bought (I thought it was authentic limonada but it tasted like powder). I only took one sip and chose to return it. The same cashier told me she wouldnt give me a refund. Instead of listening to my concerns she was dismissive and told me what I was saying wasn't true, pointing to the pulp in the machine. When i asked further she said she was still learning the cash register and didn't know how to process a return, despite me paying in cash. I've never been to a restaurant where customer service isn't a priority! Most likely not coming back. read more

The thing I most hate about this place is the amount of potential it has but doesn't deliver. Went in ordered a little bit of everything to try this spot out. They have really good drinks and salsa bar so if the review was only based on that then it would get a 4.0. The customer service was great as well so I already had high expectations. First I went in for the bistek and it was tasty. Then I tried the carnitas taco which was a little dry and needed some seasoning. I love al pastor but sadly this one really let me down. So overall the service is awesome, the drinks are great, but the food needs some work. Wow, have to say, that was a phenomenal surprise. The restaurant doesn't look like much of anything and is set back and easy to miss. But the tacos are great, truly great. A wide variety of meat, all cooked perfectly. Whether it's tender pork or flavorfully spiced barbacoa, you're given a choice of corn or flour taco and then they dump a good portion of meat on the taco. Toppings are totally up to you, they have a taco bar with cilantro, onions, pico de gallo, and some hot sauce and you can dress your taco to your heart's content. The hot sauce is absolutely fantastic. And each taco is under $2. Simply doesn't get better than that!! read more

Four and a half.. While Mellizoz Tacos was my overall favorite taco experience, this place was probably home to the technically most well constructed tacos I had, and certainly was the most authentically Mexican. My sister took me here on the way to the airport on my way home and breakfast here was a perfect ending to my trip, and one final reason that I probably should have gone on Liptior after arriving home. Things looked promising from the start as the place has a seriously impressive salsa bar as its centerpiece, the other clientele was completely Mexican, and spanish language television was blaring in the dining room. Things didn't disappoint once the food came. I stuck with my morning tradition on the trip and ordered one breakfast taco and one regular, and my sister wound up doing the same. Per the server we had the breakfast on the flour tortillas and the regulars on corn, t he corn the superior in my opinion. She got the better of the two orders. The barbacoa, made with beef and of a striking dark almost black color, was the best I have ever had anywhere, fantastically moist and juicy, and infused with a rich deep smoky complex flavor like I've never experienced. Her Gringa breakfast taco, which included migas and cheese as well san additional add on of her choice, in this case beans, way bested my migas taco, which i didn't realize did not come with cheese, simply the tortilla strips and thus went me wanting. The other taco I got, the pastor y chorizo combo was deliciously salty if just a bit less impressive than the mind blowing barbacoa. All in all I couldn't have ended my trip at a better spot. read more

We had a great experience today! Our server was so awesome AND she puts everyone at ease by displaying her vaccination card in a clear plastic case on a lanyard worn around her neck! I think it's ingenious! She was overly accommodating, she even gave us a complimentary carafe of Aqua Fresca because the length of our wait was a little unexpected. On top of her being genial and very attentive to our needs, our order was accurate, timely, and delicious! She even helped out by checking on our 8yr old in the potty who was taking just a tad too long. For us it was a fantastic experience. She made our experience meaningful....even though for her it was midway through a double shift. Also the bartender kindly gave my daughter a little to-go cup rimmed with chamoy and chilito since it's her favorite! Great staff, yummy food, we come every time we are close! This place is great if you are looking for a variety of street tacos in Austin. I loved the queso but my husband did not (it's thick but has a nice lil kick of spice). The chips it was served with were thick corn tortilla chips. I ordered the carnitas taco and gringas taco (add avocado). I loved my tacos! A also had a frozen lime margarita. Woo wee it was STRONG and BIG. My son had the kids chicken quesadilla plate and LOVED the quesadillas. He wasn't a fan of the rice or beans (they were a touch bland).
