We didn't have great expectations for this restaurant. Being from San Diego and so close to Mexico, I've been spoiled. I was surprised, the food great! Authentic and seasoned well. Service was awesome too! But, who is "El Topo" ???

11/9/18 update: Lousy service. My Caribbean margarita was good. Chips and salsa taste prepackaged. You have to pay $3 for that. I got a salad with chicken in a toasted tortilla. Th tortilla was pretty soft. Not great. SO got a smothered chicken and rice burrito. He enjoyed it and ate every bite. Chips and salsa taste prepackaged. My house margarita was smallish but tasty. My SO's chicken and rice burrito was good but lacked spice. My chicken taco had great flavor. I got a side of rice (not hot, and a little dry) and black beans (utterly smothered in melted cheese

Best carne asada burritos around! We used to live close by but now that we live 5 hours away, these are the burritos we come back for.

Bland food, way over priced for the quality, less than comfortable atmosphere. They had good verde sauce, so I'll give them that.

This is the best food I've had traveling around in Montana. It's a little pricier than the other…read moreplaces, but it's worth every penny you spend. I ordered their grapefruit dirty martini. It would normally have grapefruit vodka in it, but I'm not a fan of vodka or any of its flavoring. The kind bartender substituted the alcohol to gin with a splash of grapefruit at no extra charge. I believe the bartender is the owner as it seemed to be a one man show. The same guy was our server, a bus boy, bartender, and our host! He was probably the cook too! Talk about wearing many hats! I ordered the golden and red beets with goat cheese for $12 and this came to the table looking like a colorful masterpiece. Every bite was delicious. The huckleberry creme brûlée was great! The huckleberries are hiding at the bottom of the ramiken. I'm a tourist and was on a mission to eat everything huckleberry and this dessert did not disappoint! It's a must try! My boyfriend ordered the wild mushroom crepe $16 which was roasted wild mushrooms, prosciutto and swiss cheese with mornay sauce. I thought the crepe was a little undercooked, but he absolutely loved it. I also thought it was a bit salty for my taste, but the mushrooms were tasty! I ordered the $16 grilled salmon and andouille sausage over spinach with tomatoes, fresh orange and red onion. I never heard of these two proteins together, but they make a dynamic duo! I'd like to say it's a warm salad and it was so good! The charred salmon was the star of this dish!

Because it was Cinco de Mayo on our visit at this time, I had the breakfast burrito, which was absolutely delicious, and my sisters had the eggs Benedict. We had Emma, our server, who was very attentive and extremely nice. The inside of the café is small and cozy with a great deal of lake memorabilia on the walls and we really had a wonderful time sitting and chatting while we ate our breakfast and drank our coffee. This establishment is small enough that you might miss it when you drive by... So be very vigilant when you're looking for it. As we all know, the best places to eat all the small places that are hard to see!

I ordered The Basics for $13.50: two eggs any style, potatoes, toast, and your choice of meat--bacon, sausage links, grilled ham steak, or a sausage patty. I went with the sausage links, and wow, they were so good I cleaned the plate without even trying. The vibe here is cozy and down-home, like Sunday dinner at grandma's. And the staff? Friendly, quick, and make you feel like you've been part of the family forever. Is out to breakfast when we are in Somers/Bigfork area.
