My friend had a groupon for this place so decided to give it a try. It is in old Henderson so a pretty far drive. The chips and salsa were not that great. Chips were not hot and salsa was very bland, tasted like tomato sauce. My friend ordered the wet bean & cheese burrito and loved it. I ordered a taco and enchilada combo which came with the abondigas soup. The soup was bland. The rice, beans and enchilada were very good. The enchilada sauce was very spicy (requested the spicy version). The ground beef taco was not very good. Meat was cold. The service was great. We saw a commercial on tv so we decided to try it out. It doesn't look like much from the outside but don't let that detour you. We were seated by a very friendly gentleman. (Shaggy) He was very attentive to our needs. Our order was correct and hot . The portions of the food are fabulously large and Everything tasted wonderful. Stopped for lunch today driving back to Vegas. Had seen this off the beaten track place in Harris & Harris commercials and wanted to try it We would stop and eat here again. The first salsa they served us was more like marinara sauce than salsa, hardly any spice at all, no peppers or onions, etc. We asked for some Tapatio and some hotter salsa, and both were served to us. We ordered a green chile pork burrito and a carnitas chimichanga. The green chile pork burrito was good, but it didn't have much meat at all. The carnitas chimichanga was excellent, very tasty. We ordered our food and waited for over an hour without anyone acknowledging us. I kindly asked if they might have missed our order. They did. We reordered. Another 30 minutes and no food or drink refill. Stood up to leave and WOW they said oh your leaving. Yes we're starving and it's been 1.5 hours. She says ok I'll tell them not to cook your food. We went to this restaurant about a month ago with some friends but I wanted to give it a second try because the first time I was so hungry I wasn't really sure what was good and what wasn't. In case you are wondering this is NOT the chain restaurant- it's a family owned small business. My first hangry experience was on a Friday night, it was busy and the energy was great. The staff was upbeat and friendly. The food was cheap and for the price the portions and flavor made my very hungry belly happy. I would have given it a 4-5 star rating. Last night (a Thursday evening) we went again. It was slow and there was no background music on. The way the restaurant is set up it made the energy feel depressing and we were all afraid to talk above a whisper. Our waiter was nice but barely acknowledged us or checked on us. Our son got a $20 fish taco plate that looked like unseasoned white fish with a slab of chipotle store bought sauce in some dry tacos. He was not overly impressed. We got the chimichanga with clumpy clearly canned enchilada sauce and dry unseasoned shredded beef. Had the tortilla chips were stale and the other half fresh and yummy. Oddly, this was our experience the first time as well. The first time we got tacos and and enchilada which I thought was really good but now I am questioning if I was just really hungry, The second visit I would rate 1-2 stars so I am meeting in the middle at 3. Bottom line - don't order anything expensive or you will likely be disappointed- order some basic inexpensive dishes and you'll either be happy or at least full and ok with what you just ate/spent part of your hard earned money on. read more

We Jokingly consider Ourselves "Foodies" and Eat Out about 3 times a week. We've been looking for a "Good" Mexican Restaurant in the Vegas Valley. Our "Foodie" Standard is My Wife Ana's Cooking as she is an Excellent Cook. Sooooo We decided to to brave the incoming storm. Even with the busyness, the service was excellent, they were quick to seat us, get our drink orders, and food was fast. Enchiladas are very hot, temperature wise so be careful! And the margarita (we got patron) was very strong! Much worth the price! If you're ever in the area, which will probably be rarely, make a pit stop and grab something off their extensive menu! Just moved here from 89122. Wanted a "new favorite" Mexican restaurant. I was not impressed. The wait seemed to give the impression the dishes were good. I ordered the #8 "green chili" with pork. Not necessarily an authentic dish. The sauce was anything but home made. The pork was "pork" and the tortillas were /ok/ (chose corn). The rice was dry, insipid and was sitting for a while. Service was marginal to good but the food authenticity is well below standard. The quality of food is at a fast food level and the check/pay/leave is unacceptably slow. I was able to write a review waiting. Great potential- not great food. Unless you like canned beans. I am well versed in Mexican culinary kitchen. I make all dishes from scratch and have eaten in several parts of Mexico. I am Mexican nonetheless and can identify a good kitchen when I find one. This was 3 or 4 out of 10 at best. Hygiene is very important. The restrooms were clean but had a minor Odor and the door is not sanitized. The soap dispenser has been dry for sometime. I notified someone standing outside. The restaurant dining room seem to require attention and it appears they need more personnel. Papers, rice, miscellaneous garbage laying everywhere. Last but not least there is a 4% credit card fee. Credit cards are run manually and typed in at the register. Very strange business management. read more

What's going on with one of our most favorite Mexican food restaurants? We have gone to El Torito because their food is so good. Tonight was the second time in a row that we have had to wait for over an hour to get our food after our order was taken! The restaurant was jammed full with people waiting for tables. It seemed like they only had three staff members working outside the kitchen. Not sure how many folks were in the kitchen but I'm guessing maybe 2? I'm not sure what the issue is, but hopefully they'll get it fixed. I fear that they will start losing business with the time lag being so extreme. read more

Three of us went out to dinner here and when we walked in, we noticed the reconstruction that they had done and the redecorating. It looks great in there!!! We've been coming here since I was a little girl, as well as my partner and her family. We started with the spicy fried green beans and man were they spicy. They were delicious! The chips and salsa are always good and we always add a side of beans. I ordered beef fajitas and they did not disappoint. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned great. The rice and beans were also a great compliment. My son ordered two bean and cheese burritos with beans and rice on the side. He ate it all and had no complaints. He kept talking about how amazing this whole place was, he was in awe. :) my partner ordered a chimichanga and before I knew it, they were taking her plate away. El torito - first things first, this place has nothing to do with the chain that's equivocal to Taco Bell... This El Torito is a hole in the wall family owned business of 40+ years. The service can be slow, and sometimes the food takes a long time to come out. Sometimes it seems like your being a bit ignored... Do they really earn all 5 stars based on what I said above? - maybe not. But I love this place and it's almost part of the charm that occasionally they have off days. Let's be honest, I am not going 100% all day every day. The Chile Relleno is awesome. The green chili pork is amazing, machaca always a constant for breakfast or dinner. The albondigas is a must have. Overall - it's a locals place, most people who come here are known by name. The first few times you come in, it feels a bit like they don't care, but if you think of it more like having dinner at a family members house... Probably more of a 3.5 star review to be truthful but the place has been here for 50 years for a reason...very nondescript cinderblock restaurant on the far south end of Boulder highway. Don't let the exterior looks fool you though as this place has some very good and traditional Mexican food...interior is very clean with about a dozen booths and several tables. The service was very good from the few employees that were working on this Saturday afternoon. The salsa was pretty good and had more of a tomato forward flavor with a touch of heat at the back end...the chips were okay...pitcher of margaritas were good albeit served in plastic margarita cups as was the pitcher itself...the tamale was good but as another poster said, the filling could have been more ample inside...the rice and beans were good though...the shredded beef enchilada was excellent as was the shredded beef burrito (huge)....business was steady on an early Saturday afternoon which tells you that this place is good...first time here but won't be the last time...prices are in line with other places of this type...RECOMMEND read more

We have been in Henderson/Las Vegas for 7-Months now trying to get into the Mexican food offerings here. We had not found the right place as a go to yet. That is until last evening. Wanting Mexican we yelped and searched and came across El Torino Cafe. We headed over and the place screams Home Made (it's on the sign) but it shouts local. It was crowded and yes we had a wait. But when you got locals flooding in and in groups of 8-20 at a time you get a good idea you found your go to Mexican fix. Gina is a rockstar and the kitchen must be awesome because no plate came out less than volcano hot and prepared to perfection. Food this good is homemade and you can taste it. The service is spot on and Gina and her team were all over it and that's a great sign of a solid family owned and operated restaurant. They all cared and were glad to help in anyway possible. I got the two combo platter and it was more than I could eat at one sitting and the sauce was amazing. Awesome. Taquitos remind me of the original taquito in San Diego - El Indio The salsa for the chips was fantastic. Not absolutely sure, but I believe the chips are made in house. Waitress recommended the carnitas and it did not disappoint. Finally, to top it all off, we had the flan. Very Mexican and delicious. Highly recommended. This is a nice little Mexican restaurant way out off boulder hwy. It stands alone on a dusty lot, you wouldn't even know it was there. My family used to come here frequently for dinner but we decided to just come for an early lunch. At night, the place is almost always packed but you can still manage to find a seat even though it's on the smaller side. It's nothing fancy but plain and simple Mexican food, which is why you come here. For lunch, there was no one there and it was quiet, which was kinda weird. Food: the food is great! I know I'm crazy, but I really just love their rice and beans and a tortilla to go along. Everything I've had there has been consistent and tastes good. They give a huge basket of chips with salsa. The chips are on the thinner side and the salsa is very tomato dense, not too hot but not too mild. I like it!
