Have not been to El Torito in years. There was one near our hotel so we decided to have lunch here. Came in for lunch we didn't know until we arrived that they have a lunch buffet every day. It was empty when we arrived but filled up quickly. We were seated right and decided to try the lunch buffet. Our server was very nice. It was very good so many options. There was an employee making fresh tortillas and there were lots of options for tacos. I tried chicken and steak. I tried quite a few items all were good. The corn cake was not as sweet as I remembered but still good. The chili Colorado was excellent really well seasoned and tender. I tried the margarita flight it was good, the mango was my favorite but all could have used a little more tequila in my opinion. My family of 4 came for brunch and showed up just before 10am. It seems the best time to arrive is between 9-10 if you want no wait, since the crowds definitely showed up after we were already sat. The food selection here was great, good quality, well seasoned, and refreshed and refilled often. The service was fantastic as well. Our server Deysi was so fast at clearing plates from our table and very attentive about refills or requests. At $36 for adults and $12 for kids, we found it to be a good enough value for the quality and variety of the foods offered and will definitely be back. This whole experience from start to finish was bad. We should have just turned around and walked out. But we had been to this location on and off over the years, several times. There were 4 of us (2 couples) First , we asked for a table not a booth. She acknowledged our statement and walks us to a booth. We say, a table please, after a long pause, we are brought to a small table. We get our menus, our lovely server walks up to our table (you can tell this lady has been busting her butt all night) Gets our drink order and brings chips and salsa and we add table side Guacamole. Me and the other wife order the Mojito flight.......WARNING- DO NOT ORDER They come back to tell us they have no mint for the mojitos and will that be a problem.....well I do get irritated when especially large brand names establishments don't keep an adequate supply of ingredients nenecessary for highlighted items in the menu. But we said ok. These mojitos with or without mint, should not be bought. It's like syrup in a cup. Wayyy too sweet and taste like store bought mixes. Absolutely disgusting. We get to placing our orders and guess what? They are all out of the bacon wrapped shrimp i was ordering for dinner. I end up ordering fajitas like the rest of my party. The liquid they ignite is all over the food, you can taste it. No flavor in thr meat. I even had to request some of their jalapeño butter because the meat alone was not edible without it. Flavorless. The tableside guacamole had no salt or pepper added so we had to doctor it up. The tablestableside Here is where disgusting can't even compare. My friend gets up to walk toward the waitresses inquire about something and I feel something in my hair. I thought when my friend got up, she snagged my hair, when i put my hand on my hair as I now see my friend walking away from me so it can't be her but my hair has something moving. A FLYING ROACH flew down from the vent, into my hair. I immediately threw it down to the floor out of my hair , where it began to crawl and my hubby stepped on it. I let out a scream and people watched and no one batted an eye. I ask for a manager and I explain what happened. A man who seems like he also is a manager of sorts seemed to question what I said until I pointed to the extremely large DEAD roach. She says they are sorry. I assume they will just make things right later. Nope. She brought me a flan, served before the dinner even came ( I didn't eat it) Oh and did I mention the fajitas coming out and not fitting on our table because the leaves wpuldnt extend under the table due to an unstable lock for the leaf. In the end, all they did was take 20% off the check. This is a condensed version of the whole overall experience. It was pretty bad and to be honest a waste of alot of money on food and an experience that was horrible. Came into restaurant tonight and Alfredo was awesome. This may not be a 5 star restaurant but he gave a 5 star experience after the large crowd of dodger fans left after a game. This place is difficult for vegetarians and vegans. Not enough options and you gotta check on everything- the beans, the rice, etc. also waiters don't know much when you ask them about the ingredients. I often get different answers from different people, suggesting they are just making up answers. I think this day and age, there could easily be more options for don't who don't eat meat.
