We've been visiting Anaheim for over 20 years and always my favorite mexican food. But the last few visits have been awful....waiting for food....waiter telling us there is only 1 cook. Then this last Sunday, we had to wait with 5 parties ahead of us....15 minutes. There were about 5 tables being used, restaurant empty, but we had to wait for the first time ever. Food is amazing but the new manager (transferred from Anaheim Hills) is not friendly. While me and my child sat in the bar area she walked by and literally asked every table how everything was yet she passed us and completely avoided eye contact. Came here for my grandma's birthday with a large group, and the staff handled the party really well. Service was exceptional, and they did a great job making my grandma feel celebrated, which we appreciated. For food, I ordered a Carne Asada Burrito, along with the chips, salsa, and guacamole that came to the table. The chips were decent -- a few stale ones in the mix, but still workable. The food overall was okay, nothing standout but solid enough. Great service, decent food, and a comfortable spot for family gatherings. I'm open to coming back if the timing works out. read more

The shrimp were well seasoned and perfectly cooked, and everything came together with fresh lettuce, avocado, cheese, and a creamy dressing. It was filling without feeling heavy. The drink was a refreshing tequila cocktail served in a ceramic cup with a chili seasoned rim and a fresh lime wedge. It had a nice balance of citrus, mild heat, and sweetness, and paired really well with the food. The only downside is that it does get a bit loud, especially during busy hours. First of all, I am not a local of Anaheim Hills but when I'm traveling to the desert, my boyfriend and I always try to stop here! The ambience is beautiful, especially after the recent redecorations to the restaurant, bar and outside patio. We always sit in the bar and Benjamin is our go to bartender guy! The service is consistently good and he is very friendly! On my most recent visit, I had the pleasure of meeting the general manager, Chad, who, after inquiring how everything was going with my meal, etc., had a very nice conversation about the Restaurant business in general. If I had any sort of negative criticism at all, it would be that my plate came out with the wrong type of beans. In Benjamin's defense, though, I did not mention it because something like that I can overlook because of how nice everything else was that day! We've come to Rodrigo's many times and we were very impressed with a couple things that happened at our last visit. Our server was David who did a great job getting us whatever we wanted and we never had to wait to get our service. David explained the Loyalty program in detail and wasn't pushy. The food was good with my wife and I coming for Taco Tuesday and we both had a margarita which were very tasty. The greeter was very friendly and had a great smile and attitude. We prodded her for her name and she said it was Wednesday. As far as the ambiance, it could use a little touching up but I liked the hometown feeling and the fact that we have come over to this establishment over the years even when it was Don Jose's. I was there a couple days ago and the food was not to my liking. I ordered the chili relleno, it was just ok. The beans were mediocre and the rice had a terrible taste to it. The waiter was always busy talking to the female receptionist. When I was talking to him he keep turning around like he was leaving. I had to call him over to refill my drink and again for more salsa (very bland) but I like mild anyway. Finally he disappeared when I only wanted to pay my bill. Had to go look for him. Disappointed to walk in and see everything looking so bare. Also extremely disappointed that the taco Tuesday set up was gone. Why change something that people enjoy so much? We have been eating at the La Palma and magnolia location for many years long before the name change from Don Jose and long before the covid tent and always looked forward to going. Service was great with David. Rice was too spicy to eat which was upsetting and cheese was barely melted in my cheese enchilada. A few hits and a few misses. Stopped by for a bite at the bar before a show. They lack spicy salsa which is a bit disappointing. Their "spicy" salsa is still quite mild. We ordered their chile verde and carne asada plate. The pork on the chile verde was quite dry despite being drenched in sauce. Their rice felt old and dried out, wasn't as fluffy as I would like. Their carne asada was the best part of our meal. The meat was cooked well, full of flavor and tender. Their beans were also quite good. Service was fast. The decor is interesting. Very disappointing experience at Rodrigo's Buena Park. When we arrived, there was no one at the front desk for about 15 minutes, and around six families were waiting just to be seated with no staff in sight. When we were finally seated, the service didn't improve. Our server appeared to actually be the bartender, not a dedicated server, and unfortunately he was quite rude and inattentive. On top of that, our order was messed up twice, and the wrong food was brought to our table both times. Overall, the experience was frustrating from start to finish. Sadly, because of this visit, I won't be coming back to this location. If this is the level of service being provided, it's not surprising that other locations like the Artesia one have already closed. Zero stars for this location. read more

Been coming to the Anaheim (it is not Buena Park) location for decades when the restaraunt had another name. It has seen better days. Unfortunately, due to post-COVID pricing and unfortunate change in clientele, it is not a location we care for anymore. We used to love spending game nights in the cantina with friends, being served by Alex, Claudia, Erindita, or one of the many related family members that work here. We watched their kids grow up, and celebrated with all the staff as it happened. Wonderful memories! The food has never been spectacular, but it is decent California/Americanized mexican food. Better than Taco Bell, but a food truck might get you closer to authentic?! The regulars and the friendly atmosphere always had us returning... All good things must come to an end?! Managers we knew retired or moved on. The owners kids now run the business, and while attentive and seem sincere, the price gouging, and neglect of the property is very apparent. Some of the new regulars are young and rude (some are pleasant, but the few bad apples ruin the experience.). The employees that returned after COVID lockdown seem complacent and dont attend to the customers as they did before. Sadly, my family has moved on, but will always cherish our many, many years patronizing Don Jose's / Rodrigo's. We occassionally return to see old friends, but the prices, service, and degraded atmosphere, will keep us away until we see improvement. Hopefully, one day it will improve and we will be regulars again?! Time will tell. read more

Can't believe I've been here over a dozen times and never wrote a review. Favorite is the tostada and the chile colorado. Rice is good and beans are taste. Pork verde is also very good. Complimentary chips and salsa are a plus. Coffee and mexican hot chocolate are great to top off the meal. And save room for churros and flan for dessert! My favorite item has been the Carne Asada and Camarones. The dish comes with steak, shrimp, vegetables, guacamole, salsa, and beans. Colorful and tasty. Service has always been excellent. I particularly appreciated it when the server, on more than one occasion, noticed that my salsa dish was getting low and refreshed the salsa supply. read more

We have been coming to Rodrigo's, formerly known as Don Jose's for about 40 years! This would always be our family's go to- until now! The original family of owners were bought out. They have brought in a new marketing/management and it's gone down hill! I called to have my son's birthday dinner here with 22 people in attendance. The manager proceeded to tell me if would be $28 a person (I think that's the exact amount). I asked what that includes.....a limited menu, drink and dessert. I inf ormed him that most of us get margaritas (a few) so charging for a drink and dessert is ridiculous! He basically said sorry but oh well. Our bill is usually around $800-$1000! So instead we went to a different restaurant and had a great time. We will never go back again unless they change their policies and fire the marketing/management who are running it into the ground.
