Was here for Taco Tuesday in the bar today. Service was great. Food was good. Only complaint is their new rule of charging for tortilla chips! What? This is a Mexican restaurant & every one I've been to includes tortilla chips. They now give flour tortillas with a side of butter & salsa - which is good but should give us a choice to have one or the other. They used to give both, which in my opinion was too much. Management needs to reconsider this decision. Also, margaritas are different. Don't know what it is but we've been coming here for years & there is something different about them. Their happy hour deal is fire - everyone try their tortilla & butter that comes as a complimentary starter. BOMB. Came here to try their happy hour deals which were a lot of foods for a decent price. Ordered their nachos and tacos along with their frozen margaritas! The MVP was indeed the complimentary starter which are the warm tortilla and the sweet butter. They are perfectly salty and sweet & great with the drinks you order. Overall, satisfied with the experience and I would totally go back to try other items on the menu. read more

It's hard to write about all the things that went wrong with our visit last night. We had reservations for 6:30pm and weren't seated until almost 7, even though there were three empty tables in the main room. Finally seated, there were no place settings on the table; the flour tortillas, salsa, and butter arrived almost immediately, but apparently, we were supposed to eat with our hands. The silverware arrived ten minutes later, with our water. Timing of the food arrival was off: we had just started the made-at-the-table guacamole, when the entrees also appeared. We had ordered shrimp fajitas, but the waitress did not bring corn tortillas. Also, the condiments that were supposed to accompany the fajitas were minuscule. We had to ask for more lettuce. By the time the tortillas and sides appeared, the fajitas were stone cold. After that, the waitress abandoned us until she was ready to hand us the bill. We practically had to beg her for more water! When I saw the suggested tip amounts on the bottom of the check STARTED with 18%, I nearly gagged. Since the pandemic, service in restaurants seems to have taken a nosedive. The attitude we get is something like this: "You are so LUCKY to have me as your server, you should leave 20%, no matter how terrible the service!" General comment: we were placed adjacent to a large party in the "private" room; the noise was so disruptive, we couldn't hear each other speak. Finally, in the reservation, I mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday, it was in fact my husband's eightieth. Not one mention of the birthday at the end of the meal, and by that time, we wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. Do NOT consider this place for any kind of celebration, EVER! read more

We always come to this location because it's spot on! This time around I had to leave a review because our server was so memorable. Adriana, thank you for your amazing service. At some point I asked her for quite a few extras and she came back with each item lol. Super attentive, sweet and truly cared about providing us with a good experience and top notch service. We would go here every Tuesday. But now that they charge for chips (even refills) our party of weekly 8, no longer go. Stop charging for chips!!! I know you will comment that you provide free fresh tortillas, but only when they bring them! We would rather have chips and keep your tortillas and maybe we will return! Upgrade to unlimited Bloody Marys for $6 more. We always love dining at the bar for dinner because the bartenders are friendly and have a good pour. The Cadillac margaritas are the best, and the seasonal cranberry marg is so delicious. You get complimentary chips and salsa, plus fresh handmade tortillas with sweet butter. Went for dinner and everything was fantastic! Right as I walked in i was greeted by the hostess who was very sweet. I was taken to my table and waited for my friends. Even though I was waiting Joan my server came to me quickly to ask if I needed anything. My friends and I commented how the service was great as well as the food. We had stopped coming years ago due to poor service and food. This was our second time back in a month and the service and food continues to be spot on. I hope management recognizes their employees for the above standard service we have received the past visits. Keep up the great work:) read more

Wow! I went to El Torito Grill for lunch and was I surprised! There was a brunch! The food was delicious. Fresh steamed vegetables, Chile Colorado, Chile Verde, fresh salad, taco area with someone making the tacos of beef, carnitas and chicken, a lot of other foods to choose, homemade tortillas and a dessert area. The management was all to happy to accommodate us. Violet, manager, was very cordial. Jose, the bartender helped us decide our drinks. He is such a nice person! Carolina, the Regional Director, was at the site, also. They told me brunch is from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm M-F. Brunch is $19.50. Saturday's brunch is from 9 am to 1:00 pm. $24.00. Sundays brunch is from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm for $41.50. ( Sunday's brunch includes mimosas!). We will be coming back next week! The secret is : FRESH FOOD!!!! read more

We had an outstanding experience.. Food was great and Adriana did an awesome job throughout the evening.

We went for happy hour, it starts at 3 every day. It took a while for our food and drinks to come out. Service was very friendly. The carne asada fries were alright, the cheese wasn't too melted. The carnitas sliders were nice and tender, I wish I would've just ordered those and skipped the fries. The marg was pretty good too, but nothing amazing. Good deal for happy hour for sure. read more

Joanna was an incredible server--her hospitality was truly superb. However, having lived in Brea and frequented El Torito Grill for over 30 years, I was shocked to be charged $3.00 for chips. While we received the salsa, being told the chips were extra was deeply disappointing. I always viewed El Torito Grill as a high-end establishment, but charging for every little thing makes it feel cheap. I'm so frustrated that I'll be letting everyone know that chips are no longer complimentary here. I'm surprised by how many good reviews are of this place. It's been at least 20 years since I've been to an El Torito, and apparently, at least according to google, El Torito Grills are better than the regular El Torito. Anyway, we came here for happy hour and got the strawberry and mango margaritas, Al pastor tacos, the mini taco sampler, calamari, and chicken nachos. All were very average at best but I guess if I had to pick one, I liked the mini taco sampler the best. Also, our server started off with a little chip on her shoulder but after a while, she started to be a bit nicer. Finally, if you haven't been to an El Torito in a while, the ambiance is exactly what you probably remember. Very basic and nothing particular to remember. Anyway, these 2 stars are mostly for the food which wasn't very good. Their prices are on par with other nearby restaurants such as Lazy Dog or Julep which are much, much better. Also, this restaurant charges a 4% service charge which isn't much, but it's surprising for a restaurant of this low caliber. Anyway, this will be our last time going but glad we tried. read more

We used to visit this restaurant when they had one in Los Angeles on Wilshire Boulevard. Sadly, that is closed many years ago and this is the only one left. Yes it's a 2 1/2 hour drive on a Friday night to get there, but it's definitely worth the drive. The food is exceptional. The tortillas are freshly made with orange honey butter And the combo plates are the way to go. We had a really nice server. Her name was Cynthia and she was outstanding. Had a birthday brunch with 12 of us today. Our waiter was as great as well as the variety of food. However, the person manning the omelette station was not nice. Five people in our party asked for omelettes. Each time he acted like he was "put out"for having to make them an omelette instead of any kind. Would have given today 5 stars, however, the omelette station needs to be manned by someone who is friendly & attentive to what you ask for in your omelette. Just want to say they have the breast champagne brunch in Orange county however, the service is even better and their manager Violet is exceptional have not been here in two years because of Covid the menu had changed and the thing I came here for was the dessert banana fosters put to the heat in the flame, bananas, caramel butter, and ambience. When I brought this to the attention of Violet she was amazing and came and made it for me on the spot. Make reservations for Sunday brunch if possible! We had a large party of about 18 - seated promptly for our reservations. The space is fairly tight though as we had two strollers with us. We didn't know there was a ramp in the back to push our strollers up so we carried the stroller up the stairs in the front. The two employees hostesses saw us but didn't bother to tell us about the ramp which we found out about afterwards. The AYCE Sunday brunch (~$32 per person) was quite an experience and included unlimited soft drinks, horchata, and mimosas! There are a few different stations for tacos, ceviche, hot foods, desserts, etc. Omelettes and pancakes are also available but ordered at the table. Definitely a cool experience and for a buffet, the food wasn't bad. Parking in the main lot gets packed quickly but there is a parking structure available as well (free). read more
