This is a staple in my Mexican restaurants. I have been going there 25 years and Eduardo in the bar has been there for 23. He is attentive, friendly, and gives great service. The food has gotten better for happy hour and the drinks are decent. Parking can be full for close up parks at times, because the restaurant is located in a shopping center with Ralph's, 99 cents only, CVS and a beauty supply. Taco Tuesday's are crowded, but the wait is average times. I missed going there during Covid restrictions. They have done some inside updates that give it a new feel. I haven't been to this restaurant in 4 years because of the service I previously received, since it was New Year's Eve, La Fonda of Inglewood was closed and me my friends were stuck on taco Tuesday without any tacos, so we said let's give El Torito another shot. We first try to call over of course nobody answers the phones so we call the marina location and we get a happy greeting and they let us know they close at 10. We are 1.4 miles from this location and 5 miles away from the marina so we decided to drive over and see if it was open since nobody knows how to answer phones. We get there and not only are they open they weren't serving taco Tuesday but still had happy hour going until 9 but only in the small cantina area they have, lucky for us it was deserted because of the holidays. Unto my dismay here came the server and it was the exact same old man from 4 years ago, I recognized him instantly and knew the evening would be ruined. My friends were like just be positive they tried to small talk with him about music and his family. We ordered our food, and guess what poof he disappeared, I had to refill our chips and water myself from the counter, and someone else ran our food, we wanted to order more drinks and couldn't. My homegirl got the grande fiesta platter (Flautas, nachos, wings and a quesadilla) she asked for no beans and guess what a shitload of beans, she didn't want her food anymore. My friend ordered a steak and enchilada plate, and he's never been here before he really liked the corn cake so he asked for more, the server never let him know he would be charged extra so he found out once it was time to pay and just was like well there goes his tip money. I solely wanted tacos but mini tacos were $4 they are pre made and it's a beef/chorizo mix I couldn't just get all beef tacos. Tacos ala carte are $5 why would anyone in LA wanna pay $5 for a gentrified taco?? So my last option was the taco combo for $13.50 chicken unless you pay $2 extra for steak...I can get a whole aunthentic taco combo at La Fonda for $8 so I wasn't having it. I also tried to order horchata he told me there wasn't any so I stuck with water, the chips lacked seasoning we threw salt on those, had to ask for extra salsa. My food wasn't good at all, the rice tasted like it came out a box or can, so did the beans. The chicken was dry just sooooo plain. I got sopes for $6 and it was just orange Donald trump looking dough, re beans, dry chicken with sour cream, all 3 of us tried half of one and had to send it back to the kitchen. My friends steak and enchilada plate was the only thing that was actually good, haven't missed this place in the last 4 years and will continue not too. Stopped in today for Happy Hour on Labor Day for their $5 Cadillac Margaritas and was shocked to see their new cool renovation. The young manager who works Monday nights was awful .. he was very unprofessional and not a good example to his team .. not coming back thanks to him.. and I was a regular at this location.. too bad he made such a big deal over one little beef slider that I wanted to pay for.. my son didn't get full with the meal that comes with 3 so I wanted one more only and the manager said no.. I had to order 3 more.. also the food runner/expo seems over worked and super grumpy.. I asked him for spicy salsa and he rudely said "tell your server" no hospitality from him .. our server Jose was great though I tipped him 20% .. even though he was busy he always smiled and was really nice he should transfer locations because this one is just going to bring him down too.. that manager needs more training on hospitality though. read more

Found this place based upon reviews. We chose the Hawthorne location because it was away from all the crazy beach locations. Food and service were excellent. Margaritas were good.
