Came to eat here on a Monday with my wife and service wasn't so great.our server Sandra didn't check up on us much through out the night.it wasn't even busy.we made eye contact a couple times and she just walked pass by,I'm not the type who will raise there hand or shout out if I need something. But I kept trying to get her attention just by looking at her.our food took about 30min to come out,I'm not even trying to be extra but it's the truth.she only came to see if we needed a refill once.the food was maybe a 3stars,our nachos that we got with steak that we paid for lacked steak.it was more onion than anything.the guacamole wasn't fresh and the lemon they use isn't fresh squeezed.my enchiladas where a bit dry and burning from the bottom of the sizzle plate. Just had a very nice lunch at El Torito but unfortunately witness a very unruly guest and how well the staff and management handled the situation. I was also advised by several restaurant staff members that this couple are "regulars" who come in the restaurant "weekly" and create "disruption" every time. Their waitress was so "very nice & accommodating" but was was very upset from the terrible experience with this customer On a weekly basis. Drinks were chock full of alcohol however, we had to wait about 10 minutes for the server to come back to take our orders. Food is pretty good, it's just the quality of service which needs to be improved. Considering it's a Wednesday night and it was slow I was expecting more expedient service. I haven't eat here for years and decided to do take out instead of dine in. This place was so good years ago but what the heck happened? I live about 1/2 mile from this place and ordered the Nachos supreme. I've never been this disappointed in service or food until now. I was told it would be ready in 10 minutes but waited for 25 minutes and when I got home all the chips were soggy and the cheese was already solid. I am staying at the Hampton Inn less than a mile to the North. I wrote this review to right a few wrongs. This place should not have two stars. I'm giving it 4 to even up the average a bit. I would normally give it 2.5-3 stars. It didn't blow me away but I liked this restaurant for a couple of reasons. 1. It has a full bar. There are lots of nice little Mexican and other places in the neighborhood but most only serve beer or wine. The ones that do serve liquor are dumps. 2. The waiter was great. I know a few complained about service, and I don't discount their feelings, but when I came the service was good. 3. I'm no expert on Mexican food, but my South Florida Latino-food-exposed palette found it to be exactly what I wanted: Mexican comfort food done reasonably well. The best part is I could walk from the hotel. The neighborhood is reasonably safe with lots of family foot traffic on the sidewalks despite reports of it being in the hood. Do take care as their is a mix of some seeder elements later in the evening but I never felt uncomfortable. read more

This El Torito makes me think that I have no wish to go to El Torito ever again. The interior is dated, and so is the menu; it's the same unimaginative Mexican food places were serving in the 70's. On top of that, it certainly is not very good. I had a combo plate, and both the presentation and the taste seemed like it came out of school cafeteria. The enchilada was especially bland. Just a bit of spiciness and no other flavor. Even the Mexican ceasar salad was crummy, and I used to really love that from this chain. Frankly this place needs a major overhaul in most every respect. Our meal was pretty disappointing and not worth the cost. If you want to try something decent with the "El Torito" name on it, head down to the El Torito Grill in Torrance, which has better décor, a better menu, and much higher quality food coming out of the kitchen. read more

Wow! I enjoy big Mexican restaurant chains such as El Torito, El Cholo, etc. but this location here...has got to be the WORST Mexican food I ever had after going there recently. First of all, it's in dire need of a make over! Ambience and decor looks old and dusty. Smelled damp and musty. My friend & I ordered a few margaritas and some appetizers. Yuck! The appetizers were...well...unappetizing to say the least! The food was so greasy and looked old like it was sitting out all day. I ate some of the food because we ordered it but let me tell you, I was quickly nauseated and grossed out once the items hit my digestive system. All I could think about was to go home and throw this nonsense up! I couldn't even finish the plate. The waiter eventually came to our table to see if we were ready to order dinner. We said no thank you, just the check, please, and vacated that El Torito with no remorse. I can't go back to that one again. Too disgusting! read more

I really hate this El Torito. It just looks and feels dirty. This location shares a plaza with a grocery store, .99 cent store(I think), and several miscellaneous clothing stores, so the plaza is always extremely busy. Parking is never too hard to come by but you may not be able to park close to El Torito. The customer service here is weird....ALWAYS. The hostesses are pleasant but that servers miss the mark time and time again. The food is always tasty here (just like every other El Torito) but the environment is just uncomfortable--my opinion. ugh. read more

Went here yesterday for lunch. I received a coupon by email for buy one lunch get one free in honor of Boss's Day. I work in the hood and normally go to the Manhattan Beach El Torito. The restaurant is huge and they sat us all the way in the back (we were the only white people in there...maybe that's why, I also have a boot on my foot which did not phase them when seating us all the way in the back). Our server, Sandra, was slow, unfriendly and simply did not know the first thing about being a server. Since she was slow and we were in a rush, we tried to order 2 drinks each at a time, she would not allow this. She just said no. She could have been nice and offered to put in the next drink order when we got the first ones. But NO. Why would you not want us to order drinks? It increases the bill significantly. Will not be returning to this location ever again. Go somewhere else!! read more
