We have been back many many times. I have tried several other items on the menu and their food is amazing. The owner is so nice and courteous. We only ever go here for our Mexican food and it is a go to date night spot. My only complaint is the one lady server. We have had her a few times and every time she seems a little put off. Usually she gets annoyed when you ask her for things like another cheese dip or margarita which you think she'd be happy about cause it's a bigger check? Y'all, I never do this, but I'm so upset at how bad my Dad was treated tonight at El Toro Loco (a local restaurant) that I have to share our story! We have been regulars since this restaurant opened. We ordered takeout, and when my sister opened her food container, she found a hair tangled into her rice! When our Dad took it back inside to inform them of the situation, the girl at the front (Aleah) claimed that it wasn't any of the worker's hair; therefore, it wasn't their problem. When my father told her that he was disheartened at the lack of customer service, she preceded to tell him that "she would refund his f'ing money, but they WILL NOT make another plate for him!" He responded, "Are you actually cursing me when I'm bringing an issue to you?" She said she absolutely was. The 18-year-old girl (Aleah) also informed him that she didn't care if he was older than her (which was never brought up until that point and didn't make much sense.) He asked for a manager, and they informed him that there wasn't one there. I'm completely appalled at this! Clearly, they don't know the first thing about customer service! We aren't looking for handouts; we are simply asking for the quality we paid for. After the way my Father was treated, we will NEVER be going back, and I'll be letting EVERYONE know about our experience. read more

The first ttime we went it was great. We returned on Saturday for lunch, it wasn't busy at all. We ordered fajitas for 2 and the steak was burnt so bad it was like beef jerky. The server was not friendly and they charge us $2.50 for extra pico degailo. Highly disappointed and definitely won't be back!!! Sad too because we live around the corner. read more

The food was so authentic I thought I was in Mexico. I panicked quickly and started asking myself questions... where's my passport? Did they build the wall yet? Will I be able to sneak this delicious margarita out? Do they have tunnels in the bathroom? Luckily it was Taco Tuesday and I drank enough to forget about the questions above. What a wonderful place ". The food was exceptional. The presentation wonderful. The Margaritas were fantastic. The only drawback was no waiting area. However we were seated within minutes. The service is here beyond excellent. The staff are kind, fast and go above and beyond. The chips and salsa are decent, the salsa needs work. The salsa is lacking depth, I most taste jalapeño, it needs more cilantro and lime juice. The queso is good, as to be expected, I have never had a bad queso at a restaurant. The guac is good, love the texture and taste, but I believe it needs more lime juice as well. I got the gringa fajita quesadilla which is filled with meat and veggies. It was seasoned well and loved how much meat you got for the price. The lunch meal comes with rice and the typical salad. My mother got the chimichanga, she said it was good and was a pretty good size for the price, it also came with rice and salad. My friend got the el torito, which is rice topped with your choice of meat and covered in cheese sauce. He said it was good but needed just a tad more queso. The reviews led me here and thank goodness I listened. Their salsa was AMAZING, I ate almost an entire bowl by myself. The chips were served warm & our server refilled them promptly. I ordered the chicken fajitas for two to share. The plate was ginormous. I actually just at some of my leftovers and still have some left. Probably could've just went with the "for one" for two people, but who doesnt love having leftovers? I also ordered a chicken enchilada al a cart and it was equally as wonderful. The chicken was moist and the sauce was very good- if I'd change a thing, I'd make the sauce a little spicier because it did have a bit too much sweetness but overall very tasty. Our server was attentive and kind. The place was clean. I'm from California and it's been hard to find good mexican food on this trip but I found it at El Toros. My star rating is based on comparisons to other mexican restaurants in the area. Speaking of which, we have tons of them. And they are pretty much all the same, ubiquitous menu with food service quality food. That's why I usually just get my mexican food from the trucks. My wife said she liked this place so I gave it try and with the entire family. The chips and salsa were run of the mill. We ordered queso, which was thinner than most places, but it tasted good. It didn't have that heavy processed cheese flavor and texture you get from everywhere else (which is probably out of a can). I ordered the Al Carbon Loco, which was three steak tacos and sides. The steak on the tacos were tender, marinated slices of steak cooked perfectly. The charro beans were excellent. Sides included pico, a ham/cheese quesadilla, and a grilled jalepeno. Best steak tacos of all the sit downs around here- hands down. My wife ordered the ceviche, and it was served in a molcajete. I tried it and it was excellent. I may get that on my next visit. The kids ordered the typical dishes you see on mexican restaurant menus, all that came with the side of rice and refried beans. I did not try their dishes, but they seemed to enjoy them. I will be back. The service was great, and they seem to put more home cooking into their dishes when compared to other restaurants in the area. Finally! It wasn't terrible but the enchilada sauce was gross. The atmosphere was more than I expected. The staff were friendly. Run of the mill Americanized Mexican food joint. The 3 issues I had: One: the enchilada plate just came with 4 enchiladas. No rice, no beans. Just do like the other Mexican joints and gimme 3 w/ rice and beans. Big letdown to see I just had a plate with no variety. Two: that sauce was downright gross. Imagine taking a can of Chef Boyardee Ravioli (with no rat meat bits in the sauce), taking out all the raviolis, and dumping that sauce on your Mexican dish. That's exactly what the enchilada sauce was, and I assume they use that same gross sauce on a lot of other dishes. Three: the chips were stale. They weren't like super-stale, but they weren't hot or fresh. The salsa was good however and made the chips bearable. Overall not bad, but it's new and may have a few issues to fine tune, and come early because it's gonna be busy. read more

We have friends who are addicted to Mexican food. They have taken us to many local Mexican restaurants in Old Hickory and Hermitage and I now think El Toro Loco is my new favorite. The service is quick, efficient and friendly. I love the margaritas although some may find them a bit on the sweet side. We had guacamole and a corn appetizer that were both delicious. The corn had a wonderful cheesy sauce and I will go back for that in particular. I had shrimp enchiladas and thought they were some of the best I'd ever had. We all enjoyed our food there and will be going back soon. It's a cute restaurant with colorful decor and very friendly, welcoming people working there. read more

We have enjoyed our meals very much both visits to El Toro Loco. We especially liked the gringa quesadilla with pork al pastor! Delish. My husband loved his enchiladas Suiza. I had the El Toro Loco fajitas last night which included shrimp, chicken, carnitas,chorizo and they were delicious. The beef fajita, however was so tough it was almost inedible. Looked like it was cut with the grain instead against the grain of the skirt steak. If the beef was better they would have been perfect. All that being said, We will definitely go back. read more
