Wow, I've driven by this place at least a dozen times and never realized what I was missing! I was in the area to try out Pacifica Cafe, but they evidently closed early so I was unable to get my eat on. I'm glad they did! As a result I found myself forced to learn about the delicious food at El Toro Loco! The grilled chicken in the Mojada Burrito was perfectly charred. They also serve Peruvian food, so I will come back and try the Lomo Saltado. I also noticed they have Chicha Morada which is a delicious corn based beverage. I can wait! read more

Discovered this place on Restaurant.com since I had some credit there. I thought they only had Mexican food, but was more excited to see Peruvian food on the menu. After enjoying the complimentary chips and salsa, my bf and I shared a half pitcher of sangria, fish ceviche, and a "bigger than your face"-sized plate of lomo saltado. Oh man, the ceviche there. I loved the texture and flavor of that briny dish. Seriously great with complementary sweet potato on the side. Crazy expensive ($15) for the mixto but I think that was worth it. Unfortunately, the lomo saltado ($13) and the mariscos ($16) a lo macho were just below my expectations for those dishes. The steak in the lomo saltado was tough and the fries were not very crispy. The dish was oilier than I expected also and the rice was not seasoned. The mariscos had a rich sauce but again, the seafood was somewhat overcooked and tough and had an oily texture. It was disappointing, but the good thing was that I had a groupon so I didn't end up paying 50 dollars for a mediocre meal. read more

OMG! This place is so delicious.... I'm really surprised by all the negative reviews. Came in for lunch one day with my mom and daughter. We ordered ceviche , camarones diablo and my mom ordered a Mexican plate. I think a steak plate. But everything was so yummy! The service was a little on the slow side but it looks like a moms and pops restaurant so I don't mind. We enjoyed each others company and enjoyed our food. I will for become a regular after our enjoyable meal! Next I need to bring my husband. Side note: Peruvian is one of my FAVORITE cuisines and I have tried almost all the Peruvian restaurants in SF and currently reside in Daly City. First time picking up at the new location. I'm so looking forward to lifting covid restrictions. Safety first, lots of sanitizer available. The face a full shield at the register. Kinda disappointed this time. Had dinner here with three friends. I ordered the lomo which has gotten outstanding reviews. Meh. It was okay but lacked spice/taste. I don't know if that's what it's supposed to be like; I wouldn't think so. My friends were happy with their traditional Mexican food. Exactly what you would get going to grandma's house in Lima. So good!! Yesterday we ate at Puerto 27 not too far from El Toro Loco. Had Ceviche and Lomo Saltado and was extremely dissapointed. Today we had ceviche and Lomo Saltado and it was delicious. We then ordered the Jalea as well. Everything was so good. If you want ocean views while you eat flavorless Peruvian food, go to Puerto 27. My guy and I were trying to figure out where to go in local Pacifica. He told me about this amazing Peruvian spot that's pretty close. We walked over and I didn't know what I was in for. Most of the tables were full and I didn't see a waiter around but I'm assuming they were in the back. What I did see was a line going to the cashier so I assumed (without asking) that it was one of those...'order then sit down' spots. No matter. There were a few people behind me and a few people in front. I did finally see the waiter and he flagged down a couple that was 4 people behind me to sit down at an empty table. I thought... huh, that's weird... but maybe he didn't realize we were waiting on someone to direct us to a table. No matter. My guy and I then decided we'll order food to go. We finally get up to the cashier and the menu above the cashier was all Mexican food. I had a hard time seeing what was on there so I asked for an actual menu. I got one and noticed half of the stuff IN the menu wasn't even listed on the board. We move out of the way and let the guy behind us order. Well, a couple of minutes later, we were ready. The cashier didn't really pay attention to us and instead decided to start an ENTIRE conversation with that guy AFTER he ordered and paid. We were pretty much... ignored. like FLAT OUT ignored. We did not exist.... at all.. So, we decided to leave. I'm sad cause I was really looking forward to some great Peruvian food. Instead, we were treated poorly and because of that, I'll never go here and I'll be sure to tell all my friends about how horrible the service is. I love this place. We order lomo soltado, yucca fried, and ceviche to go so we can enjoy it without our kids disturbing all the customers at the restaurant. My kids eat the steak and rice up! Loved the food and the family style feel. The new location is more spacious and open. From the outside it looks like an old diner but once inside nothing has changed. Someone should send the health department here regularly. Found hair on plates and spoons. A guy who looked like he just finished working on cars had worn bandaids on tried to bag up our food. A bunch of people in the kitchen who do not look like they work there or have their Serv Safe. Felt bad because it seems like a family establishent so kept eating instead of asking to leave right then and there. And for a family establishment the customer service was inattentive and not very thoughtful. On top of that, they did not honor a GROUPON we purchased based on one and ANY technicality they could think of and continued to argue with us instead of taking it up with Groupon themselves. Not a concern if we did not drive all the way out here when there are much cleaner and tastier Mexican food places, especially in The City. Would not recommend going here with a Groupon because they will give you a hard time, other reviews seem to agree. Manager was called and he brought his gang of 4 to yell at us too until we were practically manhandled to pay or get beat up or have the cops called on us. Would not recommend bringing family or people you care about here. Not to mention we had an appointment and were almost late because of the whole incident, they did not seem to care or have respect. It has been a few years since I've been back to this little gem. The menu isn't as extensive as it use to be at their previous location, but it was still good. I would have to say the pescado chicharrones were the highlight of the meal. The dipping sauce to that and the yucca fries were just amazing. The Mojado burrito was big enough to share, and my daughter enjoyed the kids chicken plate. We asked for tortilla so that she can make tacos out of it, which she loved. I'm not sure if they change their menus regularly, because there were a few things I missed from the original menu. Like the ceviche, and mussels, and their fried seafood platter. I used to work nearby this spot and it was one of my favorite spots to get a burrito. The service is amazing. They are very quick, accommodating, and professional. They get to know who you are so when I called in my order of the phone, they new I was regularly, and already knew what I was going to order. The location is perfect if you are in pacifica. There is also plenty of parking nearby and this place never gets overcrowded. The pricing is more than fair. In fact, it's cheaper than the majority of their competition. Their menu is also loaded with tons of options. So if you are looking for an awesome Mexican food spot in Pacifica, this should definitely be on your list. read more

I just ate dinner at El Toro Loco with my family. I ordered the Mojado Burrito "wet burrito" and 2 of the shrimp tacos. I had been wanting to try the tacos as I had heard that they were very good. I was a little off put when I saw the price of the tacos but when I received my food I was pleasantly surprised to see 3 nice sized prawns per taco. The tacos were as advertised. Delicious. The only complaint I have with the wet burrito is the sauce they use is a little tomatoey for my taste. Could use a little kick. But overall a very good burrito. Had not been here in years, but after a drink next door at Winter's bar, I was hungry. Alas Winter's is the classic old school joint with no food. ETL is a hole in the wall, but the food is great. We shared some ceviche, a salad (I love their salad and the dressing) and some Aji de Galina (Peruvian Stew). Everything is authentically prepared and the servers are very friendly. We each had a giant glass of the red sangria. I love all the freshly cut up fruit they put in at the last minute. This is the kind of restaurants that nothing fancy, just provides amazing dishes with incredible values, better than the famous Limon' in Burlingame or Cascal in Mountain View! Their seafood paella was full of fresh fish, seafood, highly recommended! Their ceviches were really fresh and not overly sour, I could tasted the sweetness of the fish! As I was eating I took a spoonful of rice and there was chunks of salt not even small chunks but big chunks. It was disgusting. So loud it was impossible for a conversation....because everyone was having to yell at each other to be heard, it was s noisy din, which didn't seem to bother some of the larger groups of tables who were being loud in the first place. The shrimp burrito was a little basic and didn't have the most cohesive flavor profile; I've had better, but not bad. Might try one of the chicken or steak options next time. The creamy "chowder" of seafood & corn was better. I wouldn't necessarily travel long distances to eat here, but it's charming and has a solid menu. I've had a lot of family lunches here which means lunches with about 15+ of us. Peruvian food is consistently good - great lomo saltado, tasty taquitos, delicious pescado al diablo. Service is just ok and ambiance could use a little bit of sprucing up but that doesn't take away from the food being hearty and delicious. My husband and I went in last night for dinner. I had a toastada with carne asada and he had a super CARNITAS burrito. We both had the same ingredients except for the meat choice. This morning, my husband complained of stomach problems. Later this evening, I came home to find him sick with a fever, shivers, diarrhea, headache and also vomiting. Thanks to Groupon, I decided to trek back all the way to Pacifica from SF for delicious Peruvian food! I always order Lomo Saltado and they never disappoint. Sometimes my boyfriend orders an off-menu Peruvian dish that's great too! Minus stars for the service today. It was busy and no open tables, so I understood that we had to wait for someone to leave, but we weren't acknowledged for at least 10 minutes. Once we were finally acknowledged, we asked the owner, who put us on a waitlist, about redeeming the Groupon voucher and he advised us to show the server at the beginning of the meal. We did that and our server told us to give it at the end. At the end of the meal he brought us the check and forgot to get the Groupon before charging us the correct amount. Also, we ordered an appetizer but we never got it and we were charged. Luckily we caught it and brought that up, too.
