Best Mexican munchies place in all of San Antonio. I grew up in El Paso, TX so my expectations are always high when I come to places like this. This place did not disappoint and hit the spot! This place brought back childhood memories and everything was like if I was back in El Paso being made there! You will not regret it! From the ice cream to the chilindrinas and aguas frescas you will be satisfied! I now moved back to Houston and miss this place soooo much! El Tropico - Shaved Ice Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

El Tropico has moved venues! It's down the street (a couple blocks) from their previous location. They have a larger lobby and the same delicious foods as before. The new location also includes a small yard which I hope they utilize into a childs play area or mini dog park. Im proud to say I've tried a good amount of ice cream, paletas, corn cups, and rusas, to know I've tried the best thing in life. Tropico makes the best corn cups and rusas in S.A.! Señor and Señora Tropico (as I call them) are friendly and will give you samples of their products. I love their mangonadas. They're the perfect amount of sweet. Their chocobananas are wonderful! Señora Tropico makes the best corn cups and rusas. If you see her, ask her to make you one. So delicious! This ice cream shop is super clean and very colorful. I always try to bring a friend to show off my favorite icecream shop. I previously used to avoid their fruit cups because I thought the fruit was cut too small however I noticed they started cutting it into bigger pieces so I'm going to have to try one soon. read more

My friend and I came here as we were craving shaved ice and needed to indulge. Unfortunately they didn't offer many flavors plus it just didn't look very appetizing, more so artificial. They did however have many options for ice cream so we decided on that instead. We asked a lot of questions but the server was new so we were on our own. I was initially put off about an ice cream flavor of queso fresco but once I tried it I was pleasantly surprised. The prices were average and the place itself was your typical fruteria. While the snacks are decent, the last 5 times I visited this establishment the process has taken extremely long. With 3-5 people in front of us, it's taken at least 15 minutes to order and another 20 minutes to get a aqua fresca and strawberries with cream. On my last visit which truly will be my last visit, I was told it was going to be a long time to receive my order, I being use to long waits I pressed for a more descriptive time frame and was told 30-40 minutes. This was once again for a strawberry and cream and aqua fresa. I do praise the lady behind counter for the warning but this was the straw that broke the camels back and there are too many fruit stands to have to wait for mediocre food and snacks. read more

They're always helpful, nice, and always add extra Chile when I ask.. the corn is white corn which taste way better than the canned yellow corn most places sell.. which is why I dive 4 miles to this place. we ordered two single scoop waffle cones for a cool midday treat. we also picked up some marzipan for later in the day. the walls are a cheery combination of colors and the place is nicely decorated, complete with a flat screen and some lively music playing throughout. this ice cream shop features a diverse menu with everything from cones, shaved ice and smoothies to drinks, fruits, and salty snacks. there's an incredible variety of milk and water based mixes to choose from, all made from scratch in the kitchen. we sampled a ferrero rocher flavored ice cream that was great, but decided on cookies and cream for one cone and gansito for the other. they also have flavors like tres leches, cucumber, and cappuccino that looked pretty good. everyone was kind and helpful and contributed to the family-owned feel that the establishment lended. we'll be coming back soon! read more

I have been here here a few times now and the ice cream is really delicious. They give you the biggest scoops and hook you up. I haven't had the chance to get any over the other snacks but I really only want the ice cream now. The one I usually get is Tropical Fruits, which is kind of like a cheesecake flavor. The green pistachio and cookies and creme are also pretty tasty. I used to really like Brindles but this is my go to spot now. read more
