The micheladas are a 10/10 The sauces and spice on everything was a 10/10 However, the only thing that had us a bit weary was the temperature of the food. What we ordered: 1. The aguachile con salsa verde: the salsa was delicious and it was a good amount of food. The shrimp however was extremely raw, like zero pink. Usually the shrimp will cook a bit with the lime juice, but this one was very very raw, as if they had just defrosted the shrimp right before putting it into the lime juice. The other weird part was that the agua chile was room temperature and the shrimp was almost like lukewarm, which made us a bit sketched to eat it. 2. The Baja tacos : 2 fish and 1 shrimp, they were okay. The fried shrimp didn't taste freshly fried, it was a bit rubbery like it had been re-fried 3. The Maricoco: this was delicious and a huge portion but again, the whole plate felt room temperature instead of cold and refreshing 4. The Cajun Seafood Mix: this was really delicious and spicy! This dish is meant to be hot so it was piping hot 5. The molcajete: similar to the agua chile, the salsa negra was 10/10 and some of the fish were extremely raw and room Temperature. 6. Kid's quesadillas was a huge portion! All in all though, the spice and flavor on all we ordered was great, the service was wonderful, and the ambiance is cool and vibrant. read more

I came in after a concert, and the service was unacceptable. My waitress, Maria, immediately rushed me to order but gave me no time to even look at a menu. She was unhelpful and impatient, hovering while I tried to decide. Food arrived before drinks. We waited around 20 minutes for a draft beer. Meanwhile, the place was basically empty, and several staff, including Maria, were hanging out and laughing with off-duty coworkers while I struggled to get basic service. The ceviche came out warm, not safe to eat. When I sent it back, she rolled her eyes. I also got hit with a $10 upcharge for a substitution that was never disclosed. No communication, no apology. I saw this place pop up on my Instagram feed and knew we had to check it out -- so glad we did! My husband and I stopped in on the Long Beach promenade and were genuinely impressed from start to finish. Turns out it started as a food truck and has only been in this location about a year and a half, but the growth really shows. We started with the Margarita Flight, which was a fun way to sample a few different flavors, plus a well mezcal that hit the spot. Food-wise, we couldn't go wrong: the Ostiones Preparados (prepared oysters) were fresh and packed with flavor, the Baja Taco and empanada perfectly seasoned, and the Molcajete came out sizzling and huge. Everything tasted authentic, like it was made with real care. Our server was super attentive and friendly the whole time too, which made the meal even better. The one weird thing: every restaurant around it on the promenade was slammed, while El Viejón only had us and two other tables. Honestly can't figure out why, because the food and drinks here easily rival -- if not beat -- the busier spots nearby. Prices run a little higher, so it won't be a regular thing for us, but it's 100% worth it as an every-so-often treat. Hope more people find this place, because it deserves to be packed too! Tried the Baja fish tacos, tostadas, and empanadas, and everything hit the spot! The Baja fish taco was my favorite--the fish was crispy, flavorful, and had me wishing I had ordered one more. The tostadas were fresh, delicious, and definitely something I'd recommend too. The empanadas were a great addition to the meal. The service was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and it wasn't busy when we stopped by, which made for a nice, relaxing lunch. I had time to kill. Found this place on Broadway and promenade way. Walked in and was greeted. We had the option to sit inside or outside. We chose to sit outside since it was a beautiful day. I like the fact when we were seated, we were given some tortilla chips and salsa to munch on while deciding what to order. We were not hungry, just wanted adult beverages. Ordered a michelada, cocktail and Paloma. Delivery was dissapointing. We waited 20 minutes to get our drinks. As the minutes continued, we ordered more beverages. Service started getting better! Great service, beautiful and spacious for groups, solid tacos at a fair price. But why does all the sushi have cheese in them? Overall had a really good experience. The service was excellent. The space is clean and beautifully decorated. I loved how the indoor dining room flows seamlessly into the patio, which makes it an easy place to bring guests. Didn't try the drinks, but they looked great and will be back for those. Food-wise, the empanada was good, and the fish tacos were great and felt like a solid value for the price. The only downside here was that the soda was surprisingly expensive ($5? For Diet Pepsi). The biggest letdown was the sushi menu. Nearly every roll includes cheese, except for the California roll and $17 for a California roll feels like too much considering CA rolls are "basic" Overall, excellent service, a great atmosphere, and strong tacos. The workers here are amazing. That's not the issue. My friends and I came on our lunch break and waited over an hour for the food to arrive but never received it. We had to leave before it it arrived. This place is severely under staffed and had no ac. We were sweating our asses off and left hungry. If you're okay waiting this long to eat give it a try. I can't even tell you how the food is because well we didn't get the chance to eat. The bartender was also the one waiting tables with only one other waitress and only one cook in the kitchen. Lack of communication couldn't save my first marriage the same way the customer service lacked here.I brought my ex mother in law here mind you I don't like this woman. We were the only ones here apart from another table. Food took 40 mins to come out. They Couldn't remember what we ordered or bring out chopsticks for the sushi. Horchata was legit but overall the experience itself for not having any customers wasn't a great experience. The food was mid at best. Ordered the shrimp and cheese empanada, the spicy tuna roll and the garlic octopus for two people. That ended up being plenty of food for two. My favorite thing was definitely the spicy tuna roll, followed by the empanada. The octopus was cut up as opposed to being more of a 'steak' which I think contributed a bit to a chewier texture. Great evening, This review is long overdue. This has to be my number one go to spot in our area. This spot never misses, even on a Monday when we truly need it typically lol. We stumble upon this spot because we wanted Seafood. This is basically my getaway before going back to reality. The vibes are magnificent. Everyone else around you is normally minding their own and having the same great experience, we're having. The food is amazing and the food menu is awesome. Pros: The restaurant is beautiful, has a large menu, and is located in downtown Long Beach. Cons: The service was slow for us but not for everyone else. Given kiddie cups while others had adult cups of water; the waitress/waiter never came back to check on us, only when it was time to pay. Came in for a lunch date with my boyfriend. Had to walk to the other side of the door that leads to the street and once we entered, we had to walk all the way to the restroom to be seated by a young lady in Black. Sat down, looked at our menu, met our waitress, put in our orders, waited until our food and our drinks arrived. Was offered Salsa and chips with two kiddie ice water cups. We had the slowest service ever. We tried to get a waiter or waitress's attention but they were nowhere to be found. No napkins, and no extra ice water on a hot sunny day. The food was ok. I ordered the "Cajun Shrimps" which came with 6 shrimps, 8 coin-sized slices of sausage, 2 small potatoes cut into fours, and half a corn cut into twos. For a Mexican seafood boil it was way too salty for my taste buds but I still ate it because it costs $33.99. The only good thing was our drinks which were Lagunitas and Guinness. The atmosphere wasn't as friendly as we both would have liked. A TORTA was sitting in the corner from us who gave us the death stares throughout our whole meal and even when we paid and left. My partner and I were walking around looking to get something to eat. We couldn't really decide so ended up coming here. We tried opening the door and it was locked and there was 1 table with customers that pointed us to the other door so we walked over and tried that door and it was also locked. The food was great, very flavorful, good portions, just exactly what I would expect from a Mexican spot. We were watching music videos that were playing and then the screen posted someone else is using you account and then there was no more music lol it was funny but kind of embarrassing for an establishment. Waiter quickly sat us, introduced himself and started by informing us the wait would be 20 minutes. I started this 35 minutes into sitting here, I just received the appetizer... which was good! We realize the water cup is cracked and leaking all over the table, they take the cup, do not clean the water all over the table nor do they return with a fresh cup of water. 20 minutes later our 2 rolls come out.
