My husband and I were there on 10/24/25, arriving just before the kitchen opened. We waited over 20 minutes for water while seated outside. I ordered the Blackened Red Snapper, and my husband ordered a burger. Our meals arrived 15 minutes apart. My fish was cold, the Brussels sprouts were chewy (seemingly microwaved), and the sweet potato was hard and cold. When my husband's burger finally came, the sweet potato fries were cold and rubbery -- and worst of all, he found a hair inside the burger. He returned the dish, and we left. A spontaneous trip to Cape May for New Years Eve led to spontaneous eats. Elaine's had a large outdoor seating area and live music so we had to stop by. This spot is family friendly. Kids were dancing and tossing around a football. Tables were spaced out and there were lots of seating options next to heat lamps. Service was quick and friendly with suggestions for snacks. There was a large projected screen outside with a football game too. Cape May is full of surprises outside of the summer season. Drinks were great! The lobster spring rolls ($21) did not disappoint. It was straight lobster and no filler. The lobster bisque ($10) had chunks of lobster and felt luxurious as it should to wrap up 2021. I saw the mussels go to another table, they looked wonderful. Plan to wait! Went there on a Monday at 6:30 PM, our server came 20 minutes later to take our drink order. We put our food order at the same time, since we had plenty of time to look at the menu. That was the last time we saw our server until we were presented the bill. Our drinks came at 7:15 by way of runner. NO ONE came until our food was served at 8:05 PM. NO ONE came to apologize for or explain the delay. The food was good, but the delay wasn't justified. Especially since the two tables next to us came and went while we sat waiting. The food here is just ok. The mussels were good. The wedge salad was small and lacking. Soup was ok. Shrimp were overcooked. The biggest issue was service or lack thereof. We came with a bottle of wine not knowing they were not BYOB. Ok fine. Many of the restaurants in CM are BYOB. All that should have been said by the waitress was " I'm sorry but we are not BYOB and we have a full bar". Instead we treated like criminals and were told we had "to take that bottle off the table ". When we got there we wanted to eat inside as the weather was questionable. We were told bruskly "Outdoor seating only". Ok. We sat outside. Halfway through dinner it started to pour. We had too sprint to get undercover. We stopped in for outdoor drinks and a snack. We hit an off time and were able to get a remote table no closer than 10' from the closest couple to us, she who sat with an rbf until she got her drink. Decent enough drink list, I'm sure I could have ordered my standard Manhattan, but decided to try one of their specialties, and a choco-tini for her. Oh, and a crostini cheese with pomegranate seeds to pick on. She liked her chocotini, my drink was good but not great' but that might just be me. Crostinis were a good snack but nowhere near a Tria or Monk's cheese plate. So we relaxed and had our drinks and listened to the music which wasn't good but was better than no music. Well spaced and distanced, and the interactions with the servers were brief, which is good right now. My family and I can't rate the food because we weren't there long enough to look at a menu. The restaurant has only self-seating tables with no hostess on staff. After waiting a considerable amount of time for a table, which is understandable given summer Saturday night, we were told that the table we chose to sit at was a "money table" and it was policy that only 6 adults were allowed to sit there. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children. Apparently this was the only "money table" at this restaurant. We informed the waitress we fully intended to spend money on a full dinner with drinks, but we were still refused the table. As a result, we left. If anyone from Elaine's management reads this, here's a nickels worth of advice... if you continue with your "money table" policy, first, don't be cheap-hire a hostess who can navigate your stupid rules. Second, stop calling it a "money table" to your customers-it's gross. And lastly, remember what happened in Pretty Women when the shop girl refused to help Julia Roberts. There weren't that many vegetarian options and the one gluten free option was wayyyy too over priced for zucchini noodles. Their food needs help. I do think the chef needs to taste the Mac n cheese he's making so he/she can see. It's bland with no flavor at all. He/she needs to work on their cheese blend. Waiter shows no compassion! The waiter comes over to our table, my mom and I are sitting at the table. My husband went to the men's room. The waiter asked if we were having dinner. I said just drinks. He proceeded to tell us that he may need this table for someone who wants to order dinner. (Which I thought was rude and told my mom that when the waiter left.) I said that would be fine, we will move then. He left our table in a flash not taking our order. The table next to ours heard the conversation and commented to us. They agreed that he is rude and commented on the costly cocktails. The waiter only returned to our table after fifteen minutes and I had to go ask him to come back and take our order. He told me he had a problem with another table. (Surprise, surprise!) I actually watched him talk to the waitress for at least five minutes, laughing. When he finally reached the table, he was giving attitude. I did tell him that he is being rude. He became argumentative, told us to go talk to the owner. We just gave the order so he would leave and just do his job. When we left an hour later, 5:30. I walked by this waiter. Stopped and quietly told him, that he needs to show compassion for people. That my mom just lost her husband of 67 years, my dad, last month. This rude waiter raised his voice stating and pointing that the owner is stand over there. Music was great. Stopped in Elaine's during the Wildwood Power Outage with a group that was 3 adults and 3 kids ages 1, 4, and 7. It just rained so we sat ourselves inside. About 15 minutes went by before a waitress came over. She was friendly; we ordered drinks and appetizers that came out somewhat quickly. They were pretty good; pretzels, a salad, and N.E. Clam Chowder. We then put our dinner order in: filet mignon, snapper , and a burger medium well. Pretty simple order. My wife is allergic to milk so we asked for a substitution for mashed potatoes, which usually have milk in them. She also asked for her steak butterflied , well done. A "steak sin," I admit, but she doesn't like any red or pink. An hour and 15 minutes later our waitress asked if we had gotten our food and we said no. She assured us it was next. Another 20 minutes elapsed and out came our food. The fish was lukewarm, my burger charred and dry, and the filet was medium rare with a side of mashed potatoes! Our waitress was extremely apologetic, she was not our concern. She also said the chef makes no exceptions due to them being extremely busy! Wait a minute, what? Luckily milk allergies aren't usually severe but how can someone disregard a food allergy? And they took the plate back to recook the steak and it was brought back with the mashed potatoes still on the plate! Then we were told that she didn't put the order back in because it would take too long to cook correctly. Our waitress took the entrees off of the bill in the end but at no point did a manager come out to ask how we were or even apologize for the lack of service. Having 3 small children out to dinner isn't easy when you are there for two hours. More importantly, some food allergies are pretty severe, so if you have a food allergy, I'd not recommend here because it seems the chef has too much pride to modify your meal. read more
