The atmosphere was nice. Service was okay. Drinks from the bar were delicious. The summer burger I ordered medium rare was extremely well done and hard. Had to send it back while everybody else ate. They brought me back the second burger just as well done and hard. For $22 it was horrible. The $15 mac and cheese for kids was extremely tasteless. Had to order her. Something else to eat and had to pay for both. For what we were charged, definitely not satisfied and will not go back. read more

The food here is just awful .... the drinks, like a whole in yhe wall dive . The service , WOW ... nasty waitresses , not that is matters , maybe in their country its ok to be nasty? We spent 500$ but it wasnt enough to get good service or treatment. We left unsatisfied and grossed out by the food. Do yourself a favor when in cape may , go to cape may fish market ... Elaine's outdoor vibe looks inviting, and the entertainment is good, the serving staff is on point....BUT the food is just okay and the portions are extremely expensive for the portion size. The spring salad was $19, we were assuming we would be served a fairly large salad for that price. It was barely enough for a child! Again, one would think an appetizer of potato skins would be a plate of potato skins.....we were served a plate with only two. YIKES!! and again the price was high. We also ordered mock tails....that arrived in plastic cups. I felt like I was at an outdoor carnival. Over all, I highly recommend finding another restaurant that has better food for the price...unless you just want to sit outside and enjoy the ambiance with a very expensive drink. Our first time in Cape May for our anniversary and I have to say being right on Lafayette was great. When we got there, Patrick greeted us and gave us a very warm welcome. The place was decked to hilt with Halloween decorations! It was great. Food, service, and facilities were great. Great location, great live entertainment, and great vibe! If we have 1 pet peeve, it was the bed was a little soft but that is just a personal preference and not enough to discourage us from coming back. We will definitely be back! read more

We have been here a couple of times to enjoy the outdoor dining over the last couple of months. I have always been impressed with how Elaines decorates for the holidays. Halloween was so cute with skeletons scattered all over the front yard and they did a great job for Christmas as well. Elaines has a wonderful seasonal cocktail menu and I have had some of the best drinks in Cape May here. I would say that compared to other restaurants the food leaves something to be desired. The fondue we ordered was a lukewarm at best gloppy bowl of cheese. A rare hamburger that we ordered came back completely uncooked. I do not hardly ever send food back but I have had to do it here a couple of times and notice that people at the table next to us were also sending their food back. Regardless we had a great time sitting at the firepit and watching Elf on the big screen TV. Always a good crowd of people here and a friendly staff and the fire towers outdoors were wonderful for keeping us very toasty despite being a very cold evening. I am intentionally giving this place 5 stars despite the somewhat lackluster food since this place is all about the ambiance and the fun factor! Great people watching too. read more

to start with the good, the atmosphere really is incredible. The perfect place to get drinks and listen to good music. if you're looking for that sort of environment, Elaines is a good place to go. As for the bad... the food is probably the worst food you're going to get in Cape May. There's so many other incredible spots to eat in Cape May for instance, the iconic lobster House or taco Caballito. just from what I ordered, I just got buffalo dip and spaghetti, I don't think it's that hard to screw up buffalo dip, but it was probably the worst buffalo dip I had in my life. The chips were extremely stale, and had no salt on them, and the buffalo dip was so soupy and had zero flavor. Which I believe is absolutely ridiculous for the price. spaghetti was mediocre, like what you would get a pizza shop for $40. the service is pretty slow, but that is to be expected because it's more of a sit down and drink sort of joint. read more

From the outside Elaine's was decorated for the holidays. We were greeted by a friendly bartender when we walked up. We decided to sit inside since it was chilly out. The inside was really nice but our waitress didn't act happy to see us. She never smiled, kept checking her phone, and yelled across the room to another worker that she only had an hour left. We were there for lunch but the prices looked like dinner prices. When the food arrived the portions were very small for the price. I had a salad with crabmeat but could only see a few pieces of crab. $24 for a small salad. My adult children split nachos with chicken and there was barely any chicken visible. Plenty of black beans. My husband had a cup of soup that was $12. We don't mind paying but were really disappointed in the portions and with this experience. Finally a smile from the waitress as she told us to please use cash for the tip. read more

Great BnB. Rooms are so nice and clean clean clean ! Staff are very welcoming. Is it busy yes! Because its so good. If you're looking for quiet maybe not so much because there's two bars, lots of outdoor seating and always live music at night. They have balcony in some rooms which are great for hanging out, having some time to relax after the beach. Give them a try the owner's are very accommodating and always there. read more

Ended up at Elaine's on July 5th - July 4th weekend in Cape May. On the up side unlike every other place in Cape May the wait for a table at Elaine's was about 30 minutes - every where else we tried Fins, Mug, Delaney's , Taco Caballito were an hour plus for a table-. Another plus we were able to park down the street at Swains's for under 10 dollars so good. Once we were seated our waitress came over quickly and took our drink order - she warned us that the kitchen was a little in the weeds and she suggested ordering quickly so she could get the order in - no problem- we ordered 1 app and the rib special. About 30 minutes went by before our waitress made it back to get us another round of drinks- she let us know our order was in - but things were a bit crazy- we could tell. Another 30 minutes and another visit by the waitress- more drinks- and a little surprised look from waitress that our food had not come out yet. After about 90 minutes our food arrived- the food was fine - basic 1/2 rack of ribs and a pretzel - the ribs came with a little dab of potato salad and some sliced pieces of corn on the cob - which was challenging to eat. I'll will say that the music was very good - but our experience at Elaine's played out pretty much at every place we went in Cape May - overpriced, understaffed, no place to park, lots of traffic. Four friends dined at Elaine's on Saturday night. What a great evening! Food was scrumptious - highly recommend the wrapped artichoke hearts with the crab cakes for an entree'. The atmosphere is a great match for Cape May. Live music provided a good vibe while not overpowering conversation. The owners were attentive to community regulars and newcomers with equal enthusiasm. Terrible service! Our waitress was no where to be found. She completely ignored us. I asked for menus and ordered drinks. It took 1/2 hour to get our drinks after I went looking for our waitress. She told us that "someone" said we left. After finally getting our drinks, she took our lunch order. I asked her to bring whatever food is ready because my son was not feeling well and needed to eat. Once again. she was no where to be found. This is completely unacceptable! I spoke to the manager and she had no explanation for the delay or terrible service. No apologies whatsoever. Great location, adequate service, TERRIBLE quality control. We ordered 4 entrees, 3 came out wrong. Spaghetti and meatballs was not supposed to have garnish, it did, our daughter is on the spectrum and adverse to green food. Fish taco were requested to have everything on the side, they had nothing in the side, and our lobster ravioli were served as lobster egg rolls. Went for dinner here because they had music outside and while the atmosphere and service was good, unfortunately the food wasn't. We got the portobello burger and stuffed flounder as entrées. Both missed the mark as the sandwich was very sloppy and was not able to be picked up. Also, the red pepper was a not cut into smaller slices but a while half a pepper on top of the portobello. The stuffed flounder was flavorless and just barely cooked. Best thing we had was the appetizer of humus that was fresh and the pita was soft and warm. There are too many other places in Cape May with better food. Recommend to eat somewhere else and then come over for a drink to listen to the music. read more

We went to Elaine's last night with a group of friends. Should have known better than to stay when we saw that there were hardly any people in the place. We started off outside at the bar area and then moved inside. The dining room was absolutely empty except for us. Apps ordered were onion soup which was pretty good, lobster egg rolls also Okay and butternut squash soup which was terrible. It was more like a white cream and had no squash or squash flavor whatsoever. Entrees ordered were scallops with pasta and sun dried tomatoes and asparagus which was just Okay, stuffed flounder which was so bad one person in our party sent it back and one traded it to her husband for his lobster ravioli which was not much better. Two of us had the veal on pasta. I think it was actually a veal patty but it wasn't bad. To wrap this up I would say STAY AWAY and spend your money elsewhere!! We are visiting Cape May for the Sherlock Holmes weekend and decided to try an early dinner at Elaine's. There was a Nor'Easter blowing through so we put on our raincoats amd schlepped over there for dinner. Turns out the four of us were the only patrons in the place. The menu was pretty limited and pricey. The cheapest burger was $18. The specialty burger was $21. The waitress was polite and efficient, but informed us that they were not allowed to give 2 checks (one check per table), even though ours was the only occupied table, and that we were required to pay gratuities in cash. I ordered the fish&chips ($20) which was mediocre at best. The fries were cold when my meal arrived. Several in our party ordered burgers, which looked and tasted good... whether they were good enough for a $21 price is a matter of opinion. When we finished eating they did offer to split the check between 2 cards, and we were able to round up enough cash to pay the gratuity. Elaine's will no doubt be a once-and-done experience for us. read more
