The atmosphere is nice enough and the service was pretty good. For appetizers, we had the garlic shrimp which was very good. For dinner, my wife had the combo meal which included a harvest salad a 6 ounce fillet and cheesecake and I opted for the harvest salad and the schnitzel. All in all our bill came out to be about $160 which included two cocktails. The harvest salads were actually very good with a nice medley of fruit, berries, nuts, and lettuce. The fillet was average, and the schnitzel, although was very good, lacked any sauce that I think that we've all become accustomed to. The cheesecake was actually not good at all with the consistency that was more towards solid cheese as opposed to very creamy cheese. All in all the whole dinner was average. It's not to take away from the excellent service that we did get because the service was excellent. The value proposition of spending $160 for the food was just not there. read more

Date of visit: October 29, 2022 We are in the Mayfair area all the time and watched the construction of the hotel that holds Eldr+Rime and waited a bit before visiting to ensure that they had all of the kinks worked out and it turns out our timing was spot on. The only hiccup was the first impression/seating, which always makes me nervous. The hostess struggled to find our reservation and then walked away without saying anything, which had me worried that she had told me to follow her and I didn't hear her, but that didn't appear to be the case. After a couple minutes she returned and let us to a cozy semi-circle booth/table combo that we quite enjoyed. Thankfully things got better from here! Our server was soft-spoken and had a bit of a bohemian feel about her, which was fun. She was very attentive and accommodating, coming back frequently to check on coffee and water levels, which I appreciated. We were chatting with a friend about our honeymoon and looking at wedding pictures and definitely hogged the table for a while, but we never felt pressured to vacate the table for others, though it also wasn't super busy in the restaurant. Get. The. Cinnamon. Roll! My banana waffle was fantastic and while it didn't look all that large, it was quite filling and I couldn't finish it in that sitting. I was really excited to try ELDR+RIME as I read so many glowing reviews giving the joint 5 stars for the decadent food and solid atmosphere. I however do not quite agree. The atmosphere is on point and gets a solid 4 stars, but the food was just ok. Factor in the costs and location... well I will stay towards downtown Milwaukee and eat. If I could give a half star it would land at 3.5 but I'll settle in at Ok. We ordered the Salmon, and my wife had the beet salad. We also had some French fries and a half order of the oysters. Oysters were great coming out well shucked, cold, and crisp. The fries were lukewarm and at $8 I would rather go to Mickey D's and grab some hot fries. Wifey loved the beet salad and my salmon was prepared very well but again another lukewarm dish. I might come back again to give ELDR another try but seeing how out of the way it is I'll likely stick to the staples around the way for fairly priced drinks and dishes prepared to perfection. read more

It was only fun to invite our Scandinavian friends to join us here. Together we spoke about food, culture traditions and was a delightful evening. Made a dinner reservation at Eldr+Rime for my friend's birthday. We arrived a few minutes late and when we got there, we waited a little bit before getting seated as there wasn't a host present. Once we were seated, the waiter came over and took our orders. We got the patatas bravas as an appetizer and I ordered the duck breast special. The food came out at a reasonable time and everything tasted pretty good. The duck was tasty, the rice mix and sauce that it came with were okay. Went here for a birthday dinner. It was a delicious and good experience. They do change up their menu so some items I forgot what they were called! But everything was really great. Their plates are shared plates so we were able to order a few plates and share. Great way to have a taste of a little bit of everything. It was a group of 3 of us and we might have ordered with our tummies and not our heads. Had lots of leftovers but they were just as delicious having the next day. Service was great and our waitress was very helpful when it came to figuring out what to order off the menu. She gave us great suggestions because we left with happy tummies. Good food, horrible service pretty much sums it up. We went on the day before Thanksgiving. It was past any sort of dinner rush. We sat in the area in front of the kitchen. There were two servers covering. One server had one table and the other had two tables so it wasn't overly crowded. It took over 5 minutes or more after we were seated before the server assistant bought us water and the server finally acknowledged us. My family and I were in the area looking for Pokémon cards and saw this restaurant. Their menu looked intriguing, so we made some reservations. I highly, highly recommend the fondue. The flambé effect at the table is fun, but the cheese and apricot jam on homemade sourdough could have been enough for dinner by itself! It was sweet and savory married together in the very best way. I would say it serves 2-3 (maybe), so order extra if you're in a larger group. My husband ordered a hamburger, which he really enjoyed. His only complaint was that the bun wasn't hearty enough to hold the burger. It disintegrated immediately. My daughter got the chicken strips, which she ate no problem. My fried rice with Wagyu was exceptional. The beef melted in my mouth and the rice was delicious. In a parking lot and nearby mall full of chain restaurants, I would recommend this restaurant. Alright people, let me start by saying if you're coming here, be prepared to spend some money. But know that it's worth the price. We went on a double date here recently and not only did all four of us absolutely love every part of the experience, we felt safe and comfortable here (re: pandemic). First of all, the aesthetic is five stars alone. It's super spacious and beautifully decorated with greenery wrapped around the entire restaurant. It was simplistic but really cool at the same time. I also thought the concept of the open kitchen was really nice. The very spread out tables were much appreciated as well. Three of us enjoyed a glass of wine off of their extensive list, while my husband went for the classic old fashioned. The server brought his cocktail to him in a glass case (you know the one that the rose is in from Beauty and the Beast? yeah, that one!). When he opened it in front of us, smoke was released offering a delicious smokey smell. My husband said it also added to the flavor of the drink itself. I'm personally not an oyster person, like at all, but apparently it's a hot item on their menu, so the others ordered them for an app and raved about them. I still don't get the hype? But hey, personal preference. My main dish however, was a win. I went for the faroe island salmon. It sat atop a very savory porridge that has a nice creamy flavor to it. Charred and pickled mushrooms and sunflower sprouts added nicely to the dish and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Fish and chips, and burgers were among the other dishes ordered and thoroughly enjoyed. Oh and let's not forget about dessert! We had some sort of s'more dish as well as a triple chocolate cake covered in berries. Dang. These were both decadent. The kind you eat really slow and take time to savor. So yes, all in all it was definitely a five star experience. Bonus points for the staff that were all wearing gloves and masks (properly)! Would I come here on a regular basis? Met a couple of friends here after work for happy hour but was excited to try the old fashioned so didn't order drinks from the happy hour menu but well worth it! The smokiness added another layer to the drink that I enjoyed well throughout drinking. A friend ordered thyme for bramble & that also looked amazing. For food, we began with some hot chicken sliders, which I expected to have a bit more spice than they did but found them to taste a little burnt if anything. The pickles on the side did have a little kick though! For the main course I ordered the pepperoni flatbread and my friends ordered the duck confit. The duck confit looked great and was reported to taste great too. My pepperoni flatbread was okay, a bit more sauce could've been added but the flatbread was the perfect thickness baked to perfection and tasty otherwise with the bunzels pepperoni (nice touch incorporating local ingredients into the menu!). Our server kept a watchful eye and didn't interrupt the conversation unnecessarily, knowing when to break in as he needed to make sure we were happy with our experience. I was so prepared to love this restaurant. We had reservations for 11 people for our friends 65th birthday. Where do I begin? Apps were ok. The seafood tower was above average- the crab legs and shrimp were fresh and prepared perfectly and the ahi tuna tartare was exceptional. The oysters were not properly shucked- the shells had very sharp and jagged edges which is not normal. Rough edges, yes. Sharp, no. I recommend the cheese fundidi and the hummus- both were excellent. The focaccia bread is very good as well. Here's where things took a turn... We ordered entrees: Lamb, filet, NY strip, truffle burger (all meat mid-rare), salmon, beet salad with salmon, fried rice, flaming shrimp, 2 mushroom flatbreads and I'm not sure what my niece ordered. My lamb, the filet and the NY strip were all way overcooked. No problem. Our server took them back and ordered new ones. The salmon was ok. The salmon on the beet salad, however, was dry as a bone. My daughters' burger was a bit UNDER done, but not enough to be concerning. Everything else was good. But everyone else was also done eating by the time our replacements came and they weren't much better than the first plates we had received. The NY strip was actually WORSE, but we were so fed up at that point that point that we weren't going to argue. I'm sure our server knew based on the amount of food left on our plates and the fact that we didn't want it wrapped up. But here's the worst part: The manager came to the table after the first snafu, walked right up to my husband (the big WHITE guy at the table), and apologized profusely to him, and him only. Nevermind that my brother and I both had plates that were incorrectly prepared as well. He spoke only to my husband. Wow. Ok. Even my husband was offended. The birthday dessert came out while I was in the ladies room, so idk if there was any pomp and circumstance (they were made aware that there was a 65th birthday), but there was a sliver of flourless chocolate cake on the table when I got back. It was as dry as my lamb. We ordered dessert for the rest of us: cheesecake, earl grey crème brûlée (fantastic idea, right?!), chocolate chip cookie with ice cream...all were good. The crème brûlée was amazing. It had some sort of grapefruit mousse or whipped cream that was downright ethereal. Look- I can overlook a lot of things if the service is great and our server WAS excellent. But when the manager blatantly ignored the rest of the table and decided to focus his apologies only to one person (ostensibly because he mistakenly figured that was the guy paying the bill), that's pretty insulting. The bill came and the only concession given was that we weren't charged for the lamb. I would have handled it differently, but perhaps the manager could tell that we weren't going to be coming back no matter what he did. It's truly unfortunate because they have such a great menu. If I'm spending over $800 with gratuity included, I expect that the Chef will know how to prepare the food. read more

Eldr+Rime, you made our Thanksgiving takeout dreams come true! Early in November we were looking for a spot to get a Thanksgiving meal for takeout, family style. There's only three of us, but we wanted takeout for 6 or 8 so that we could live off leftovers for the entire 4 day holiday weekend. Basically, we wanted to live like we'd spent hours in the kitchen with ample leftovers to prove it without, you know, actually spending hours in the kitchen. We saw there were several spots 'round town offering family style takeout, committed to one and then on 11/20 (yes, we procrastinated a bit), we hopped online to reserve our takeout from a different restaurant (not Eldr+Rime). Sold out. Tried three more places. Nope, nope, and nope. All sold out! We came across Eldr+Rime, had never tried this place before, and thought-what the heck? What a hugely lucky accident! Every last thing we got in our Thanksgiving feast was absolutely delectable. Their turkey wasn't the slightest bit dry and was full of flavor. The gravy was some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. The garlic mashed potatoes were garlicky deliciousness and their sweet potatoes were lovely (probably the most basic of all the dishes and still pretty dang good!). Their roasted brussels sprouts were just the right amount of browned/crispy and their green bean gratin was dreamy with what tasted like fresh green beans. I'm writing this during COVID times, and am so looking forward to trying them in person one day (I hear they have amazing cocktails?). Until then, I will happily get takeout from this chic spot anyday. Arrived 5 minutes before our reservation and were seated right away. The place is nice and open with modern decor. The staff was friendly and attentive. The menu is not big for brunch but had enough options from sweet to savory. All three kids ordered either the strawberry or banana foster waffles. I had the Brunched Burger. My husband had the Short Rib Hash. The waffles were a pretty decent size loaded with fruit and whipped cream. The strawberries and bananas were fresh. The banana foster was good but quite sweet. The maple syrup was light and not overly sweet. The Brunched Burger was smaller than I thought it would be but filled me up. The home fries were good and came out hot and fresh. The burger was supposed to be medium rare. It was more medium well. Without the egg, it would have been very dry. The best dish was the Short Rib Hash. It was flavorful. It reminded me of a stew but no broth. The price isn't that much pricier than other breakfast places nowadays. I have been to places with lesser quality that is just as pricey. This place has been my most recent fave find for happy hour. Wifi is free, and the bar area/patio is usually empty on a weekday, so I sometimes bring my laptop and do work while I nom on yummy food. Portions are hefty, service is great, and vibes are immaculate. The interior is gorgeous inside, with their indoor trees and abstract light fixtures. I've tried pretty much their entire happy hour menu at this point, and can't say I've been disappointed by a single item (except maybe the chicken sliders - these were yummy but I just wish they were spicier and had more sauce). Presentation of the food is pretty and portion size is great for sharing. I have to compliment the bartenders as well! We've ordered several drinks here (thyme for the bramble, matcha business, blackberry sangria, sparkling fire roasted lemonade) and have loved all of them. Not only does this place not skimp on the alcohol, their drinks are thoughtfully crafted, strong, and delicious. Happy hour is from 4-6 pm! Highly recommend y'all check out this place. Side note: I've noticed that other Yelpers are complaining about the prices of the food, but I would argue that the price is totally appropriate. This restaurant clearly caters to a certain demographic -- its chic and upscale, and is attached to an equally classy hotel. Don't come here if you're expecting to pay pennies for the presentation of the food, the atmosphere, the service. One foot into their lobby should tell you that this isn't McDonald's. read more

Met a friend for dinner who was seated at a table with a drink when I arrived. The server asked if I would like a drink and I said "I'll have the same". She returned a few minutes later with something in a different glass with a foggy color. I rarely complain in restaurants but I said "uh... I wanted the same drink as my friend". The server gave me a scowl and took it away, poured the contents into a matching glass at the bar and returned to the table. Now it was 1/4 inch short. It looked like a dirty martini with 3 sips gone, next to my buddy's clear full martini glass. I said "I don't mean to be difficult but that doesn't look like my friend's drink and it's also missing quite a bit, could you please top it off?" She again gave me a scowl and took it back to the bar, this time returning with the glass almost full. It tasted like water was added. The food was good and there were Christmas carol singers who were dressed in costumes and taking song requests. Nice holiday ambience. After the meal I ordered a beer. The server returned with a beer for me and a martini for my friend. It looked exactly like his first one, clear and full. He said "oh, I didn't order another martini". Special private, dining event I wasn't sure what to think after all of the negative reviews. But I went in with an open mind and thought I'd try it all. The cocktails were all crafted to perfection and well mixed. The raspberry sour was not sour at all But delicious and the lavender gimlet was very unique and flavorful. The espresso martini hit the spot at the end of the meal with dessert. Unfortunately the sides did not come out with the entrées so the timing was a little off, but the brussels sprouts were on point! Lovely chunks of pancetta, the salmon, kind of surprise me with caviar on top, which I wasn't expecting and plenty of sauce to absorb the flavors. The flaming cheese was quite fun and delicious with the bread. The salad had so many bursting fresh flavors. I would go back just for that flourless cake, so decadent and perfectly complemented with the fresh berries and whip cream. Love the eclectic bathrooms and sit and spin. My wife and another couple had reservations here last night. We were here once in early 2022 and really enjoyed it so we thought we would bring some friends to try it out. This experience was nothing like the first one we had and for the prices they charge it was very unsatisfactory. Drinks: looked great and tasted good. The ladies both opted for the Sangria special and were pleased. Guys drinks were both beer and good as well. Appetizers: Ordered 2 dozen oysters along with the ahi tuna and both were decent. Dinner: Here is where things went downhill. Me: I ordered the A5 Waygu Sirloin MR+ and it was tough and waaaay overcooked (MW). Not much flavor and the asparagus were undercooked. This was in line with a steak you'd receive at an all you can eat buffet. Wife: ordered the Halibut and said it was not very appetizing. Potato fingerlings were cold and just not very tasty. Friend: ordered the Snow crab and he was fairly pleased. Seemed to have the best meal out of the group. Friend's wife: Ordered the lamb chops MR and they were also way over cooked. Said she would not order them again. Us: We also ordered the cauliflower to share and it was awful. We tried picking at it multiple times but just couldn't eat it. Charred but still kinda of uncooked. We also ordered Brussels sprouts - those were decent but also cold. Dessert: we ordered and Espresso Martini (good) and the Raspberry Mousse (terrible) to share. It clearly didn't come together right or was sitting out too long because the presentation was awful. It looked like pink cottage cheese with some toppings thrown on it. Our waiter came by once and saw we weren't eating it but never once asked why, he then came back a few minutes later with our bill yet never asked why it was basically untouched. Total bill for 4 (with 17% tip) was $510...money we all agreed we'd like to have back. I have given this a 3* rating because of our positive experience last year and because of the drinks. Lots of great reviews for the interestingly named Eldr + Rime prompted me to choose this place for a business dinner. Here's what you need to know: Location: attached to the Renaissance hotel at Mayfair but separate entrance. Lots of easy parking. Interior: Scanda inspired Pinterest forest, with high ceilings, fake trees and a lovely tiled open kitchen. Lots of green & natural colors. Cool lighting, especially over the bar. Drinks: expensive. An old fashioned was $16 but came with a very cool presentation. Still $16 for an Old Fashioned in WI is pretty steep. I stuck with wine - a short list but enough to please most, in the $11-16 range. Beers are mostly of the hipster craft variety. Food: The menu is familiar with enough twists to keep things interesting. You're not getting Surströmming, though. We started with bread cheese which is flamed table side much like Saginaki (very nice) and a delicious carrot paté. Now you may say that doesn't sound good but I'd disagree - it was full of citrusy flavor and texture, a great starter of light meal for vegetarians or those trying to eat healthy. For my main I had a schnitzel because why not? What arrived was probably the largest schnitzel I've seen outside of Austria - as long as my forearm! Anyway it was solid but the egg served with had been cooked to leathery oblivion. My dining companions picked fresh oysters and salads, and both were happy. Service: attentive without being obtrusive. Overall: I enjoyed dinner here, especially that pâté, and I especially enjoyed that someone else paid for it. They had plenty of seating options like the patio, booths, bar and tables. A fun menu with lots of drink and food options. The location is very pretty. I tried the charred lemonade, champagne pancakes with berries and crème, rainbow rice crispy and the cinnamon roll to go. Great portions and flavors, great service and good vibes. I have been wanting to try Eldr+Rime for a minute, so I'm glad I had the experience last night. I thought the decor was classy, and it was a nice ambiance for our ladies' night. I had the old fashioned. The presentation was cool, and I really enjoyed the flavor. I thought it was a very well-balanced drink. The price was a bit much, so I'm not likely to make this a regular stop when I want an old fashioned. My friends both ordered the Strawberry Punsch and said it was delicious. We ordered the bread appetizer, and thought it was okay. Again, the presentation was cool when they set the cheese on fire, but the grilled bread had gotten burnt in a number of places. That was an overwhelming flavor, but if you got a non burnt piece with the cheese and jam it was wonderful. I loved the schnitzel. The bitterness of the greens were offset by the buttery breading on the pork. The toasted capers added a nutty flavor I wasn't expecting but really liked. I am not a huge egg fan, so I would have preferred a sauce or gravy instead. My friends both ordered the fish and chips. One friend had some cold fries on the plate, and the other said the fish could have used salt or some kind of seasoning. For 21 bucks, I'd need a fish fry to be perfect. I have been wanting to try this place for a while now so we decided to go for dinner. So happy we did! I love the atmosphere! It's beautiful inside and romantic! My boyfriend and I had a fantastic dinner. Our waitress was amazing! We told her it was our first time visiting so she explained everything about the restaurant to us. We decided to make it a tasting evening with ordering several appetizers and drinks. We started with the charcuterie tray and the carrot pate. We then ordered the salmon smoked three different ways and the bread cheese which they light on fire! Everything was absolutely fantastic! It was such a nice relaxing evening trying different things. My boyfriend ordered a smoked old fashion which he loved. Overall, it was an absolutely fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back. We came here for our anniversary. This is one of our first outings in over 18 months. We enjoyed the meatball sliders, the salmon and the ribeye. My spouse also had a port beer and I had the hot toddy. To top off this feast, we had the warm chocolate cookies - served with a fork. The food was served at a good temperature and was well seasoned and tasty. We are not really beef eaters, but we liked the tender, moist ribeye. Overall, I might have liked a little quieter place for an anniversary dinner, but the atmosphere and service made up for the noise level and it was still easy to hear each other reminisce on the joys and adventures of decades of marriage. read more
