Mostly just dishonest when it's convenient. Which is annoying bc most people don't know better and have to trust their mechanic. I'm not stupid I know a lot about my hybrid car and like to fix stuff myself bc mechanics charge so much for things that cost them very little to repair. I was told that I could bring my car in for a diagnostic because there are strange fumes in the car making me sick and I thought it might be the hybrid battery producing then due to some failure. I spent hours getting my car towed to this place and waiting for them to look at it. I immediately knew after I brought it he had no intention of doing the diagnostic he promised bc he thought I was just crazy and imagining it and that I wouldn't be able to pay for any repair anyways. They never did the diagnostic and just told me to get my car detailed bc it was dirty and it was just mold like I'm stupid. I removed all of the trim in the entire car looking for something like mold. Its not mold. It was really rude that this guy doesn't care and would just waste all my time and money saying bring it in and they'll do a diagnostic and then don't even bother to stick a code reader in the car and run the codes. He admitted he didn't even do that. He had no clue if there was anything wrong with the battery because he dishonestly decided he couldn't make any money off me so just lie and say there's nothing wrong with it even though he said hed do a diagnostic to find out what was wrong with it and to bring it in. I don't have a lot of money but my parents would be paying for it so it's annoying that no one will even help me with this serious car problem that has been causing me all these problems literally bc of the problems it's causing. There are only 2 mechanics working here total and like 25 cars they're working on so they seem very understaffed and overburdened and I don't know how theyd possibly do a good job on anyone's car. he told me there weren't any leaks either when I know for a fact that my radiator is leaking. Dishonesty in a mechanic is the worst. Very inconsiderate now I'm stranded in front of this guys business for who knows how long until I can get a tow truck bc I used my only free roadside service tow to get it here and then the guy just tell me that's my problem and to figure it out which was rude considering I had it brought all the way to this place because this guy told me he could find the problem and fix it. dont get why he has such good reviews all the cars here are gen 3 Priuses which back then were somewhat more advanced but now a days seem more like a regular car than a electric vehicle and aren't exactly complicated to fix. Reviews are just a perfect storm of total yelp reviewer smugness and don't reflect anything actually special about the place. Unless it's easy to get here done waste your time this place isn't anything special. read more

Truly, an amazing place. Last Saturday when I picked up my chevy volt from the body shop, I noticed I had a hard time starting my car and in spite of the fact it was late in the afternoon (about 2 PM) and they were about to close the shop, the manager, Kindly not only checked my battery status and confirmed I had a bad battery but also kindly performed a diagnosis of my check engine and helped me with the code readings. I called to see how much it would be to install a safety device for my Catalytic Converter on my Prius , I already bought the part . They quoted me $300-$400 just to instal the safety device !!! TOTAL RIP OFF !! That's just for labor! It takes less than an hour to do it ! WOW, their competitor who is close by is FAR MORE REASONABLE, and they do excellent work ! Unfortunately since this was my first experience with this business, I can't I'm good faith. Eli eve that they are not gauging overall regardless of their supposed good work. It would NOT encourage me to use them for anything else.!! How do they have a 5 star review? Are the reviews all real? This is sometimes a problem with some yelp business'. THEIR QUOTE FELT LIKE GAUGING !!! Ridiculous ! Labor for most mechanics is roughly $150 an hour , sometimes a bit more depending on what they're doing , but $300-$400 to do something that's quite as simple as installing a protective safety cover on a Catalytic Converter , SHOULD NOT have such a high price tag for labor !!!! I got a street cleaning ticket because my car wouldn't start. In order to get the ticket removed, the city examiner called Electric Ave to make sure my car was, in fact, disabled at the time of the citation. Electric Ave lied to city examiner about when I took the car in and called the shop, either because they took bad notes or because they didn't remember. Regardless now I have to pay the ticket. Though I had somewhat okay experiences before, this is the main reason I won't recommend this shop to anyone. read more

My car had a problem he had never seen before and he would spend HOURS after the shop would close, staying trying to find the solution. I could go on and on about that, but I think the most telling encounter I had, was when Mike called for a complimentary Lyft for me to get where I had to go and the driver was excited that I had taken my car there. When I asked if they were friends, he said no, in fact, he was a mechanic at another shop in the valley. But he had only heard about what a honest, hard working, and great guy Mike is. My 2013 Chevy volt with 260,000 miles was on the verge of not being able to pass smog due to a bad catalytic converter. Mike from Electric Ave helped me get a new upstream cat, replaced the front axles that had been clicking for years, replaced the leaking struts, replaced the faulty ABS sensor, and threw in a free oil change, and now the Volt passed smog and drives better than at any point in the 2+ years I've owned it. If a car makes it past 200k miles, I tend to try to push it as far as possible. I hope to see this thing make it to 400k miles, maybe even 500k, so I'm glad I rocked down to Electric Ave so I can take it higher ;) read more

Good service but major safety issue. Mike's team put the wrong bolt on one of the calipers and it came loose while driving on a road trip to JT. The best mechanics in town! The crew here has been very great and attentive to my 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid from regular oil changes, minor fix of a fan motor for the AC/Heat all the way to major service such as the timing belt change. Note the timing belt had not busted, it was done due to the milage reaching the point where its replacement is recommended by the manufacturer. All work done has been priced reasonably and completed on time. In fact before I ever bought the car I called the team at Electric Ave to recommend the best AWD hybrid on the market and in my price range since they are the closet mechanic to my apartment, with stellar reviews, that worked on hybrids. I figured that I'd be taking whatever I buy there so might as well seek out their professional advice. Mike was kind enough to field this call and recommended the car I ended up buying and yes, they have taken great care of it! A bonus is a car wash with each service and a digital e-mail reminder of recommended service per your car's age, make and model. So helpful. Always extremely polite, accomodating, and friendly. You can ask for free lyft homs while your car is being worked on. Free car wash with any service really is extra cherry on top. I have never been overcharged or surprised with work done on my car without asking for approval to do something. Mike is a peach, the rest of the employees are great too. I just purchased a BLW i3, 2014 with 29k miles on it. Mike and his crew did a thorough inspection and found the steering column had too much play in it. Even though Carmax did their "172 point inspection," Mike found this issue and the BMW bulletin for i3s. Carmax will cover the repairs for free, which is great because Mike and Electric Avenue didn't charge me for their inspection either. While waiting for my car a number of people came in and the garage was packed. Clearly they have a lot of satisfied customers. I will be going to EVS for the life of my car. read more
