It was ok food but too loud for a date. I recommend making a reservation. I got a salmon Caesar salad and they were kind enough to let me have the dressing on the side. Stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday. It was not too busy and we got quick service. It's a classic English pub with a few booths and tables as well as a bar. We got the pretzel bites as an app which were good, and the cheese was warm with a lot of bacon. The pickle chips and the fish and chips were both good but not overly amazing (and the fish and chips had a lot of breading). The Brussels were perfectly toasted and seasoned with lots of crispy pieces which was a win. We didn't get the burger but my brother who's been and got it multiple times said it's one of the best he's ever had. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a casual bite! read more

Came here for evening cocktails. The drinks were good and affordable. The servers were nice but I took away 2 stars because my friend ordered a shot of angels envy but accidentally was given dewalt. He only caught it because he doesn't drink scotch so he immediately tasted the difference. Also, I was drinking house tequila. However, when I ordered my second round the bartender gave me a different kind of tequila which was more expensive even though I requested the same drink from the first round. We ate several different items between the five of us and none of us had any complaints about that. However, there was a group of men that were loudly roaming from table to table completing distract and grab from the patrons there. Some Irish pub food! This place gives off the feel of a good ole pub. There are plenty of seats and tables of various sizes to accommodate small to large groups. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They are busy but are attentive enough to food and drink needs. The food was delicious and it was better than expected. The shepherds pie was full of flavor and the mashed potatoes being baked on top with dried onions were delicious. The side of gravy allows you to add to your taste and avoids things getting soggy. The cheesecake was delicious but a bit on the super sweet side. I would think about sharing with someone. Definitely going to be a stop again! read more

Decent British bar/restaurant in downtown Chicago. I ordered The Deluxe burger ($15), which was pretty standard with bacon, cheese, onion and tomato- not bad but the patty was a bit thin and slightly burned. The Peri Peri Chicken Pops ($12) were more like chicken skewers- decent but most of the flavor just came from the sauce rather than the chicken and the chicken could've been a bit crispier on the outside. The Big Ben Brownie ($9.50) was very big, dense, and tasty. However, we actually ordered the bread pudding and they brought out the brownie by mistake, so not great coordination by the staff there. Our waiter was very friendly, and the service speed was pretty quick though. The place is open late, and there were a decent number of people there on a Tuesday night. The place has a bar kind of vibe with dimmed lighting although they have plenty of other proper tables for sit-down dining as well. I would describe the decor as being somewhat British. Overall, Elephant & Castle could be a decent option if you are looking for a bar or some late night food in the downtown area. read more

On a day off, my husband and I were near his old job. The initial plan was to go to Ceres but they were closed till the 2nd week of January. Hunger was setting in so we made a detour and visited Elephant and Castle, one of his other lunch hang outs. We went on a weekday in between the Christmas and New Year holiday. The area was pretty dead at the time so waiting for a seat wasn't going to be an issue. Apparently, the restaurant underwent a big renovation back in 2013 and my husband almost didn't recognize the interior. The menu has solid British fare and I wanted fish and chips. The husband got a Cajun Cesar wrap. The food wasn't amazing but it also wasn't terrible either. The drinks were delicious and I left a little buzzed afterwards with their Bloody Mary. Our waitress was great too. I had a minor disaster when my clumsy self spilled tartar sauce directly on my jeans and coat. She noticed and quickly came to the rescue with a club soda-soaked towel in hand followed by the busboy ready to clean up the hot mess I just made. I wouldn't mind returning to try their pie flight, poutine and sausage rolls. I can imagine this place can get packed on the weekends and during prime work lunch hours. If we're in the area again, I wouldn't mind coming back. It seems like a fun place with awesome staff, plenty of TV's to watch sports, eat a decent meal and enjoy a nice drink with your friends. read more

Always love coming, especially before a show at the Chicago Theatre. My favorite is the butter chicken and a cider on draft.

This place seems to be popular. Since it is connected to a hotel, we are assuming most of the clientele are tourists. The patrons also skew a bit younger (20s-30s) We can only comment on the few items we ordered: Crisps and dips. I really, really wanted to like this. The dips were ok. My favorite was the dill. The crisps were either crispy or had no life. Each crisp was a gamble. Royal Pimm's. One of my favorite cocktails is a Pimm's Cup. This was not anywhere near a Pimm's Cup and also quite sweet. Jamesons on the rocks. My husband was happy with his drink. We were seated quickly and service was also quick. The server was was also nice and didn't constantly check on us. I'm sure they have great items on the menu. We just didn't order them. The place is large and they have TVs showing sports. Went to this bar 3 times during vacation with a few friends. We only had drinks and nothing to eat this review is not about the food. Our first two times were great and service was excellent. The bartender Kim made great drinks. We all had fun and decided we should go back a third time. Unfortunately our third was not as great. We sat down and went to the bar for some drinks, immediately the guy behind the bar was rude to my friend and me, whoever he is we did not feel welcomed our third time around. Bad service and bad attitude with the bartender. Everyone else was nice and friendly. The place is also very nice, bathrooms are located downstairs and elevator is down, I don't need ADA features but if do you I'd recommend not using the bathroom here. read more

Came here late at night with a group of coworkers due to the surrounding bars near our hotels being closed earlier. Since it was later at night, there were less customers inside and the music was on the louder side but it added to the vibe of a late night bar. Lot's of televisions, clean tables and dimmer lighting. Drinks were tasty and affordable! I ordered the Berry Ginger Mule and it went down easily - the vodka wasn't overwhelming at all and tasted the berries and lime more while still getting the buzz. We didn't end up ordering food since the kitchen was closed but was glad to find a place that was open late. Service was quick as there weren't many people inside but I imagine they are just as attentive when it's busier seeing how they were always checking in and making sure we had everything. We had a stranger come to our table and the staff was so nice to stop me on the way to the restroom to ask if we were okay, which I appreciated very much! We felt very safe drinking here later in the night. The establishment is also in a good location since it's between nearby hotels and train stations should someone want an easy go-to place for a night's drink. read more

First time visiting Chicago and Wife and I came here on our first night and had some food and drinks and it was great! The second night was a little different, wanted to watch a Football (soccer) match and they were kind enough to find the channel to show it. There was a woman there who may have been the manager ( short, heavy set with tattoos with a flower in her hair was very rude!) it was clear they were having trouble finding the channel for the match and I kindly went up to her to help her and she responded rudely I was told after that they were waiting for a "2-step verification code" at that point I didn't mind much if they couldn't show the match since it was already close to half time. I ended up watching it on my phone which was no big deal just could have been better watching it on the TVs inside the bar. Then a young gentleman came up to the bar and asked for the manager by her name it seemed he was a worker since he was asking for some keys, the "manager" was crouched down behind the bar checking or counting some bottles when she blindly just threw the keys towards to the bar top to the gentleman while she was crouched and not looking, the keys she threw hit my Wife's hand and glass she was holding. The gentleman said sorry and just continued to what he was doing. That was the deal breaker for me, asked for my bill and left. I just think a little more attention or even just common courtesy of standing up and handing the keys to the gentleman instead of throwing them blindly behind you onto the bar where you have customers sitting. It's very unfortunate since the first night Justin "our waiter" was outstanding he was very attentive and very nice, He also mentioned that they might be able to show the game which was the reason we returned. Sitting down and having some food 10/10, being at the bar well different story. We will be returning to Chicago but maybe not Elephant Bar & Castle. read more

The burger was a shade past my requested medium but all the ingredients were fresh and the flavor profile met my tastes. I also really appreciate that you can sub a side caesar salad instead of fries for no additional charge. That's a big plus. The chicken tenders and fries also satisfied. This evening we were meeting a couple of friends here and paying honor to Queen Elizabeth II since it's a British Restaurant. We got there early so my wife and I were greeted by the host that wad sweet enough to find a table for us. Shortly after Delilah came to get our drink order, she was very nice too. I came in here on a friday and had an amazing dining experience at this restaurant, and a huge part of that was thanks to our server, Eddie. From the moment we sat down, Eddie made us feel welcome and taken care of. He was incredibly attentive without being overbearing and gave some great recommendations from the menu, including daily specials that are offered throughout the week since my family was staying in a hotel nearby. What really stood out was when I mentioned my family was here visiting Chicago with my baby cousins. Eddie went out of his way to suggest a few family-friendly spots around the city, which was so helpful! His knowledge and friendly personality made the evening even more enjoyable. Cute English pub located in the financial district and one of the only restaurants open on a Sunday in the area of union station. We were on a layover and needed to get some breakfast. Not the best experience here. Came in for some late night drinks. Had an espresso martini which was well made, but our server Austin was rude. He was unwelcoming and among other things accidentally spilled water on my girlfriend when he brought over water glasses. Wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that he obviously saw what he did and just walked away. It was a good portion of the glass to not just a few drops.
