The ambience is very nice for a date. We came here for breakfast and I'm so glad we got to come here! It is a very classy place and the scenery in the patio is instagram worthy! I enjoyed my breakfast and so did my husband. Avocado egg sandwich was very delicious- I had my eggs poached (2 eggs). Next time, I might split my eggs (1 poached, 1 sunny side up). The two poached eggs did not fit into my sandwich, so I just enjoy my one poached egg separately. My husband's dish was very good- the Charleston red rice breakfast hash- a lot of flavor! NOT TAKING APPROPRIATE COVID PRECAUTIONS, should be shut down until they get it together. Here's the deal, I went there for Sunday brunch. They were NOT seating tables at least 6 feet apart. NONE of the kitchen crew were wearing masks. The server was wearing a mask incorrectly and didn't have his nose covered. Manager did not have a mask on at all. WORST of all, a family of 4 with a dog were sitting at a table outside. They finished eating and got up. Server and manager removed their glasses and plates but DID NOT sanitize, clean or even wipe off the table or the chairs. Minutes later, they sat 5 women at the same uncleaned table ‍ The food was fine but I wouldn't risk my life and the life of those I care about by going to a restaurant that is obviously careless and not taking this global pandemic seriously. read more

Came here for brunch today, and had a wonderful experience. We sat inside because there was a 20 min wait in the patio. My only issue was that while initially we were socially distanced, by the time we left almost all tables were full and everyone felt very close. I was happy that we were getting ready to go. Still giving 5 stars though because the food and service were that good. I had the chicken and waffles, and they were amazing, hands down the best I have ever ordered! It started with a casual glance across Meeting Street. Through its windows (and for whatever reason) there were some of the most beautiful women I'd ever seen in Charleston--drop-dead gorgeous on a level that bordered on the unreal. I had to know what was the draw. What impressed me upon entry was a balance seldom achieved even in the best of restaurants: Eli's Table managed to strike the balance between brisk professional service whilst keeping something of a coziness seen in bistros found in any residential area. Robert, a manager poured me their house Malbec and we entered a conversation about wines, particularly those carried by the house. After a few glasses, I decided I was too comfortable to leave and I was to try more of their wines, I allowed Robert to blind-test me on a wine. In any other circumstance, this might be an invitation to insult as I profess to be quite snobby when it comes to wines but my guard was lowered given the ambiance I described earlier. I tasted what he had to offer me and he asked me to guess what it was. It was wonderful (I could go on about the notes and textures ad nauseam) but the point was for me to guess what it was. I failed after three tries. Robert then revealed to me that it was A MERLOT! Rarely in this life, am I pleasantly surprised. Normally, I do sneer at Merlots and Pinot Noirs but that Merlot was wonderful. I didn't want to have anything else. And I did not. I am confident that the ownership at Eli's Table knows how talented their Robert really is. To have someone to have the experience and instinctual sense of wine-matching is a gift. If you come to Charleston, this should be the FIRST PLACE you come to visit here. My next visit I will have to have their duck and waffles and their red risotto. Those items on their menus are items so distinctly Charlestonian it shouldn't be resisted. In my opinion all other places in this city simply will not make the sense that it should until you start at this necessary Square One. read more

We visited on Valentine's Day for brunch. It felt like we were there forever. The two stars are for the delicious fried green tomatoes. Our waiter took forever to come say hello and take drink orders. Our drinks took forever to come out. Brunch took exceptionally long, as well. I ordered Eli's lunch with chicken. Two bites in, I realize it is raw. Totally pink inside. Waited about 15 minutes for waiter to even come by. He took it back and said he was going to go make sure it's raw. The manager came by about 10 minutes after that and apologized and said that was definitely raw and he would have a fresh one out right away. After about 15 more minutes, I received my new chicken. It was dry. Hardly any sauce. So I asked for a side of sauce. Another 10 minutes later he comes out with sauce that most DEFINITELY did not resemble the mustard sauce that comes with this dish. What I received was almost gelatinous, and cold. I thought maybe it was like that because it wasn't warm. But nope! I tried it and it was gross. I had to find someone else to locate our waiter. I told him that wasn't the right sauce and he said, "yeah they said they didn't have anymore, but they said this was close." HUH!?!? ‍ You already have an unhappy customer. You would think you'd be on top of your game! I cantbelievable! He eventually went back there and found me some. My finance ordered Eli's breakfast with a side of toast. The toast probably showed up with my second sauce. So sad, because the food looked like it would be delicious had we been able to enjoy it nice and warm. They did give us some beignets (which were absolutely delicious, but cold) to make up for the drama. COVID wise, the place was rather packed. I noticed a family come in and eat and leave (since I was there so darn long). They sat a couple with an older lady and a baby in a car seat at a tiny table against the wall. The car seat had to be placed at another table, and one of them was sticking out into a walking area. So once the initial family left, they moved them to that table. All they did was wipe down the table top. The end. One of the chairs even had food on it. Considering people have their masks off and touch things after touching their mouth while eating, I feel a little more attention to detail in this area is necessary. Highly touched surfaces, like chairs, should be meticulously cleaned between parties. We ARE still in a pandemic. Bring your patience and try to go during off-peak hours/days. For us, Eli's was the best dining experience we had for dinner during the week we stayed in Charleston. We ate at a lot of the other top rated, hot trendy places, but it was only Eli's that provided the perfect balance of food and ambience. I had the shrimp and grits and it epitomized what that dish was all about. I previously had had that same dish at a super highly rated restaurant whose name I won't explicitly reveal (other than to say it's the counter partner to a King), and their shrimp was doused with a sweet barbecue sauce. Not good! At Eli's my wife had the scallops and she said they were the best she had tasted in Charleston. The ambience was perfect - no large tables of 8-10 people all screaming to be heard to the other members of their group at the opposite end of the table. No jazz musician in an adjacent lounge with amplified music, rather just subdued, relaxing background music. And finally, a very good wine list where you could get a bottle of a California Chardonnay for under $40. I've seen other reviews that have been critical of the service, but we didn't experience that at all. However, to be honest, we booked reservations for dinner at 6:15 PM. Later might be more of a problem, but I think that's true of the entire Charleston dining scene. To summarize, Eli's easily gets 5 stars from us. read more

This was the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had! The crispy, buttery croissant was sturdy enough to handle the fillings yet still light enough to give a nice soft bite. Lots of cheese, eggs, and avocado-- it all just works! I subbed fries instead of breakfast potatoes and would highly recommend. Almost 15 minutes later still no coffee and we hadn't yet placed our food order. My wife had to wave down the hostess to ask for coffee and she promptly returned with our coffee and cream. Enjoying a get-away weekend here in the Holy City, Eli's Table was the choice because they had awesome looking beignets in the pictures. And so while we ordered our drinks and continued to review the menu, we asked for an order to consume. When the arrived, three were on the plate dusted with powdered sugar. Fluffy and not greasy, they were excellent. I don't know why three and not two or four, as there was some debate as to who would get a second one. After coffee refills, brunch arrived. For my wife, the Smoked Salmon Benedict which she pronounced excellent. A good portion of smoked salmon on a lightly toasted muffin (you might want to ask for your muffin to be browned) with a poached egg topped with hollandaise. For me, it was the shrimp and grits. Creamy grits with maybe a dozen medium sized shrimp, topped with a spicy tasso gravy (I've learned since that tasso is made with coffee and ham). Delish. I cleaned the plate. I came in last week to use up my Groupon before it expired. I guess I should have thought to make a reservation because they were pretty busy. Fortunately they had seating available out back in the courtyard. This turned out great because the weather was perfect and the courtyard was a beautiful and quite place for dinner. There was a check in offer on Yelp which I used towards the Gorgonzola Fondue appetizer... great decision... you're welcome! This was the perfect app for sharing. It starts with a big bowl of Gorgonzola cheese fondue in the middle and then an assortment of items to dip. Ours came with apple slices, bread, potato wedges, and - drum-roll please - strips of bacon! Who would have thought it was socially acceptable to literally dip perfectly cooked strips of bacon into a bowl of cheese and dig in. Okay maybe it's still frowned upon, but we sure had a great time while it lasted. For dinner I had the Filet Mignon and my friend got the bone in pork chop. We also decided to split a table size side of Parmesan with mushroom risotto because both of these entrees did not come with a side of any sort. Everything was fantastic except my first round of Filet. They must have brought out the wrong one. I ordered it medium and this Mignon was well done... no pink and no flavor. I mentioned it to the waitress and she promptly corrected the issue. I was aggravated at first because I thought the solution would be that they cook me a whole new steak while my friend eats and I don't get my meal for another 15 minutes. This was not the case at all. The waitress apologized and had another steak out within 3 minutes that was cooked to perfection. In my book, it's okay to make mistakes (especially when you are slammed with people redeeming Groupons) as long as you recognize the mistake and then handle it properly from there. I met Eli's Table chef Daniel at a locals bar, and he described the food at Eli's Table in depth to me that I had to try it for myself. I came in the very next night for dinner with some friends, and the food did not disappoint. We started with the tuna tower, which was the hands down winner for me. Before eating my entree, I commented that I'd be happy eating 3 of these as a main course. The tuna was just PERFECT. I had the recommended duck & waffles for dinner. Good duck is hard to find, and Eli's did a good job once again. Cooked well, and a unique combination with the sweet potato waffles. Actually, I couldn't tell that they weren't just regular waffles, but that was mostly because there was way too much sweet syrup for my taste. I told the chef I would have rathered it been on the side, but most people probably appreciate the extra syrup. I subbed the fried brussel sprouts for another green, can't remember, and it was a good switch for me. But again, the syrup! We had a salted caramel cheesecake for dessert, which was also a bit to sweet. I'm seeing a theme, and maybe I'm alone here. Not sure if the restaurant makes the cake in house or not, so I don't hold it against them. Oh, they had delicious house bread from a nearby bakery. Really good stuff. When we complained to the waitress she insisted the chef come out to see what happened and then she returned to say he "was not presentable enough" to come out and told us we didn't need to pay as though we had received a gift of some sort. Overall a good experience but there were a few hiccups with my husbands order. I had the egg white omelet and it was quite delicious. The tomatoes were cooked to perfection and the flavor a were amazing! I'm not a grit person, but I did try them as they were a side and I felt they lacked a bit of flavor... My hubby ordered the Crocque Madame and unfortunately on his first bite her bit into tin foil. A nice little chunk was left in the food...thankfully he didn't swallow it. We are not complainers so we just carried on. The other mini problem was the forgotten about iced coffee. It never came and when we inquired the waitress again asked what kind of coffee he wanted- umm the one we ordered 20 min ago? The waitress was super nice though and the service was quick! Shrimp and Grits. Nuff said. Two of my buddies and I came here the morning after my friend's bachelors party and was looking for a good brunch to cure us of our hangover. That being said, it was lucky that we just walked in on a Saturday morning and immediately got a seat! Most places require a reservation ahead of time. I think it was because we got here at a relatively early time ~10 a.m. We were seated outside. Luckily for us the weather was pretty good (around 60 degrees Fahrenheit) however it was still chilly. The heaters outside didn't provide that much heat just FYI. Opt for indoor eating if you think outside is cold. The outdoor seating was however very beautiful. The patio is 50% covered by a gigantic veranda. The other 50% is exposed to the elements. Indoor seating looked a little cramped, but I think that is how all Charleston restaurants are. We first ordered our hair of the dog drinks (aka alcoholic beverages aka life juice). Two of us ordered mimosas while the other ordered a Bloody Mary. BEWARE: The mimosas are $10 each! The Bloody Mary was $12. Freaking expensive for a tiny glass. Not sure what kind of champagne they used but whatever. MAJOR KEY: Check in on Yelp and you'll receive a free appetizer ($6 value) with a purchase of 2 entrees! We got free beignets out of it! I ordered the Shrimp and Grits Benedict. It was absolutely divine. Comes with 2 stacks: the bottom is a patty of grits followed by large whole shrimp drizzed in a delicious creamy gravy followed by a perfectly poached egg. Oh and the whole thing was again drizzled in the creamy gravy. This all came with a side of fries and a lonely orange slice. My boys got omelettes (with a lonely orange slice) which also looked pretty dope. Definitely coming back here when I come back to Charleston! read more

It's probably not fair for me to judge Eli on their Thanksgiving dinner. We went last night (Thanksgiving Day) the turkey was good, and my wife thought the whole thing was amazing. I thought it was okay. However the staff and manager were amazing and deserve nothing but positive feedback. I would warn anyone who was coming in and planning on sitting in the patio in winter to understand that it's not completely enclosed meaning lots of breezes and a less than perfect dining experience despite the heat lamps. I would give it a 3.5 if I could. I just had so many amazing meals in Charleston this was truly just truly not worth recalling. However I would like to try them again when they have a reg menu mainly because the staff was that on top of things. read more

We went in for a breakfast the other day in Charleston. This was excellent. Even in today's current way we all live. We walked in and were given a table for breakfast.
