Swinging through Charleston on the way home and honoring our pledge to dine west of the Market on Meeting Street, rather than east along East Bay as we did coming and going last year...we booked a mid-afternoon lunch at Eli's Table. Our server Lucas was on top of his game, and the food was wonderful. Nicely prepared the Carpaccio was perfect, the Tuscan Grilled Cheese hearty, and the Beef Tenderloin Medallions tender and juicy. My visit here was... Interesting. My family and I are visiting Charleston for the first time and were looking for a brunch place on Friday. A nearby popular restaurant had a crazy wait time so we took to restaurant hopping to find a reasonable wait which is what landed us at Eli's Table. Upon arrival, my sister went in and asked about wait time. The hostess said 30 minutes, my sister was hesitant then another woman came up said we'll have an opening on the patio really soon. So we agreed to wait. During our wait time, we witnessed the hostess being kind of... Off. She confused other potential patrons about whether they could be seated or not. Another gentleman had to take charge of the situation. We then got called to be seated. They lead us through the restaurant which had a ton of open seating... I would've thought maybe it's social distancing however these empty tables were all grouped together. Before exiting to the patio we passed by the heat lamps that the cooks put the food under to take out to guests. Very close to the door where flies came in and out as they pleased. The whole area just looked like a mess. We were seated and our server was just... Off as well. He was both loud and quiet. Speaking too fast at times to understand what he was saying. Making jokes (which is fine) then cackling at them (off putting). He also only had two tables he was serving at the time. Between the lull of work to do he stood leaning against a pillar taking turns staring at both of his tables. It made us uncomfortable to be watched in that way. He spilled tea when giving us refills. The food tasted good. I got the chicken and waffles with 2 eggs over easy. One of the eggs definitely was not over easy, didn't run at all. The chicken and waffles seemed small for the price we paid. My food didn't even fill the plate the used, making it look sparse. Every one else ordered something different, they used the same plate size but theirs was full. This was one of my favorite meals that I had while visiting Charleston. Our server Joey was amazing! It was a busy night and he had a lot of tables, but made sure to check in on us and spent time talking to us and getting to know us. After the long day of exploring, my mom and I were craving some wine so we ordered a bottle of white wine that Joey recommended. It was wonderful! Super fresh and chilled perfectly. Now when it comes to food, our families biggest struggle was to decide what to order. Everything on the menu looked delicious and seemed to come from fresh local ingredients. We started with the prosciutto and fig crostini. The order only comes with three, but our server added an additional one to our plate because there were four of us. These were so delicious. Perfect combination of flavors and textures. My sister and I ordered the Eli's forager salad to split. They split it for us in the kitchen and it was really good. Fresh fruits and an interesting dressing. For our entrees I ordered the special that day. It came with scallops, rice and a creamy sauce. It was so good. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the rice had a wonderful flavor. The sauce though brought it all together. My sister ordered the Foragers filet. She refused to share because she liked it so much. My mom ordered the shrimp & grits. The dish came with five or six large shrimp and a huge bowl of grits. The grits were delicious and the portion size was quite large. My dad ordered the day boat scallops. It was beautifully plated, but his dish was a little cold. Overall though this meal was delicious. It was expensive, but for what you get the prices are reasonable! And you are also paying for wonderful service. read more

The waiter didn't do anything wrong. That being said... There were dogs in the restaurant. Fruit flies everywhere. Outdoor "courtyard" is more like eating in an alleyway. This is not fine dining, although the prices would lead one to believe otherwise. read more

The food here was fantastic but the service wasn't that great. We requested outdoor seating and their back patio area was closed so our table was in the middle of a busy sidewalk which I completely understand is the best they can do but still not the greatest experience. We waited a while for our server to show up even though another outdoor server walked by our table multiple times and clearly saw we had been there a while. There were a few staff members without masks, including the hostess and bartender. Ordering, getting our food, silverware, bill, etc. all took a long time. The food however was great, I highly recommend the shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, and duck & waffles. read more

I have enjoyed lunch at Eli's Table various times over the years and was satisfied. Lunch today was the worst meal I have ever had in Charleston. I understand there might have been a cook shortage, however, that being said, many items on the menu were not available. The chicken and waffles were much better at Golden Corral, the crab cakes were too blackened and tasted like salmon, eggs looked ok, coffee was good. Enough, our server tried his best. It will be awhile, let the Charleston tourists enjoy themselves. read more

What a phenomenal meal! We reserved a table at Eli's Table for 5pm (right when they open) on Thursday. Their patio is dog friendly so since we're traveling with a small pug it was ideal because not many fine dining places will allow that. We also brought our baby with us so the timing of our dinner was perfect because there was barely anyone at the restaurant and we pretty much had the patio to ourselves. As we were leaving, the restaurant started getting busier so If you're dining with kids or a dog I'd definitely recommend going in early. We ordered the fig prosciutto and green tomato Napoleon to start off our dinner - both flavorful and amazing and didn't disappoint. We also had a couple of drinks - a refreshing strawberry cocktail and sweet tea mule. Both were really good. Now onto the entrees.. absolutely delicious. We had dined at poogan porch the night before and thought their food was excellent but Eli's table definitely topped that. We ordered their duck and waffles, catch of the day (mahi mahi) on red risotto and shrimp and grits. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Our waitress was also super attentive and nice. I would have rated this place 5 stars instead of 4 if it wasn't for the chef who refused to give us a creme brûlée dessert to go - I've carried out this dessert from many restaurants before and it's never been an issue. I just felt like an expensive restaurant where you're paying $200 for dinner before a tip would go that extra step to make you happy especially since it's really not complicated to package a creme brûlée to go. Instead, we opted to take beneigts to go which were ok but not as good as they make them in Louisiana. Can't speak for this restaurant's other desserts since like I stated, we weren't able to try it. Elis, is and always has been a favorite restaurant of mine and my families!  We are local James Islanders and this is the place to dine downtown! This Past Saturday we came in for my moms birthday and fathers day! From the momwnt we walked in everything was exceptional! Roscoe,  Eric and Sam the managers are smooth and knowledgeable! Max the bartender is always on point with yummy cocktails for any pallette, while Kerry our server was the wine connoisseur for my Mom! My7 year old loved her chicken and mash potatoes! Eli's table was fantastic!!! The atmosphere was amazing but even better was the food! The chef was perfection. I think this is an underrated hidden gem! It was super close to our hotel, The Mills House, but I hadn't read anything about the place in my restaurant research. We popped in for a late dinner our first night in Charleston and loved it so much, we came back the next morning for breakfast! The service was excellent and the food was amazing! Perhaps not everything on the menu is great (I read some unfavorable reviews after we ate there) but everything we had knocked it out of the park! Get the mussels appetizer and shrimp and grits. Best we've ever had! The warm beignets with berry coulee for dessert was soooo good! Breakfast did not disappoint. Sweet potato pancakes are a must! read more

Terribly disappointed by our recent experience at Eli's Table. I contemplated leaving a single star but the food was okay and so I settled for two. Folks, let me be straight with you, for the price you spend to eat here, you can have a much better meal, top notch service, and a spectacular atmosphere around the corner at 82 Queen, Poogan's, or Husk.... or a good number of other restaurants downtown! My group of friends and I have eaten at many great places in Charleston and were so looking forward to Eli's based on reviews. Looking back now, it seems like the more recent experiences match mine: slow, inexperienced, hectic service with expensive food that is okay, but nothing spectacular. My husband ordered the duck, which came out overcooked and dry as a bone. He ended up eating a lot of my salmon which was rather tasteless. I love risotto and ordered the vegetable risotto with salmon on the side. The risotto was bland and had hardly any veggies! Like I mentioned, the service was off. We have heard that there is a service shortage in the area and are normally very patient, but there were numerous mistakes made over and over. It became very frustrating. When you are paying upwards of $30 per entree, service should be decent at the least. Not only that, but the manager never came over to us to apologize for the disaster we were experiencing, or even offer us any compensation for the night that was clearly not going well. All and all, we will not be returning, and we will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Eli's table was a nice surprise- we came here on a whim on the 4th of July after walking around and looking for restaurants that were open. Everywhere else was closed and this was just on our way back to our hotel. We were just in time for the Happy Hour that took place from 4-7pm and there was also live Jazz music at 7pm. Since we didn't have reservations, we landed a bar seat near the front. The happy hour menu was quite nice- it was 1/2 off all appetizers and $5 wines, beers, and some cocktails. We ordered the mussels and the fried green tomato for appetizers and the Eli's Espresso Rubbed Ribeye. The mussels were such a generous portion, good enough to make you full. The fried green tomato was really good as well- it was so crispy, juicy, and savory. It is definitely a great southern dish if you haven't tried it yet. The Espresso Rubbed Ribeye was really soft and juicy, the portion is huge ~16oz, definitely more than enough to share with 2-3 people. Overall, the atmosphere was great and the food was good- highly recommend :) read more

This has to be the best restaurant i've ever visited. We were standing outside looking at the menu when danny came and gave us the most heart warming welcome. He told us he already had a table set up for us, although we weren't dressed appropriately for this fine dining experience. When we came inside we were served by the nicest server ever his name was shawn. We came in with our puppy (which they were very puppy friendly) and shawn even brought our fur baby a piece of bacon. Maybe we went on an off night but a few comments: 1) please list mushrooms when they are in dishes, as they can be a polarizing vegetable. They were in the garden salad as well as the seasonal vegetable risotto which was two strikes for me 2) our waiter shared one special entree... while we heard other wait staff listing two. Glad we didn't want the stuffed flounder! 3) service was a bit slow, but live music was enjoyable 4) ambiance is a step below other restaurants in the area... don't look at the ceiling, it needs a lot of work! After going to 3 different restaurants with super long wait times, we ended up at Eli's. Great bacon bloody Mary's. Very friendly staff. I couldn't really decide what to order so my husband snd I ordered 5 plates. She crab soup was amazing! The shrimp n grits was delicious. It had the perfect kick. The crab Benedict was meaty. The egg was perfectly cooked. The potatoes were DELICIOUS! Avocado sandwich was great. The beignets were great- flaky and soft. Berry coulis was amazing. Everything would've been a solid 5 stars if it wouldn't have kind of cold by the time it got to the table. read more

This Restaurant desires more than 5 stars. Their food is out of this world. Charleston has many great restaurants, but none can come close to Eli's. I could go on and on, on how wonderful their food is, you just have to try it for yourself. The wait staff of Milen, Angelina, Raymond, and Breshae were so accommodating on our frequent trips to Eli's. Last but not least, Becca, the manager thank you for everything. This was my first brunch experience at Eli's table, as we normally step in for dinner and drinks. They do not take reservations for brunch, so we had about a thirty minute wait, but that was to be expected. We actually ended up with a table for six after adjusting the headcount twice. We all ordered something different, so I think we probably got a taste of all they offer. We also got their carafes of mimosas, and bloody marys (not sold by the carafe unfortunately!). The mimosa carafe is definitely the way to go though. $10 per glass, or $26 for the carafe. The Bloodys use their bacon-infused vodka. Yum! The prices were very comparable to other downtown historic district restaurants. There is no on-site parking, but there is a garage at the corner of Queen and King streets which is very convenient...$4 for 2 hours of eating/drinking. The food was very good and there were no leftovers. In fact, when the food first arrived, everyone immediately checked out each others' plates and went to town. There was no talking for at least five minutes. That's always a sign of a good meal. I would say the grits were astoundingly good, although not everyone had a chance to try them. I'm pretty fast and quick with a fork. Watch out! Our server was extremely nice and patient. We had a little bit of an issue because some of our party arrived late and wanted to be accommodated. Unfortunately, that was not possible due to the waiting list of others, and we all understood. He was timely with checking in on us throughout our stay and kept our water glasses full. He was able to split our checks at the end too. We were not his easiest table, I am sure, but he never let us see him get rattled. If you're looking for a nice downtown restaurant with friendly service and exceptional food, you might like to try Eli's table for dinner or brunch. The place is kind of small, so make a reservation for dinner if you can. read more

Had a wonderful experience at Eli's Table which has incredible Southern Charm that was exemplified by their Bartender Billy who made an amazing Bloody Mary and my favorite the Blueberry Martini which was exactly what I wanted. His customer service was impeccable to not only me but was fascinated in his ability to assist a large table next to me ensuring all got a drink that met their expectations. We were here to finalize wedding details. Walked by and they could seat us inside quickly! We had the amazing Cian who bartends as well as help the wait staff-he is the cutest! He totally steered us to the most amazing meal! He (and another person) said the Duck And waffles were their personal favorite. So I ordered the duck and waffles! Hands down -AMAZING! I should totally have taken a pic but my hunger didn't allow me to! I dug in and realized if I worked there I would be recommending this dish as well! So yummy! My daughter got the scallops which were also super yummy! Then the dessert... Reese cup bread pudding! So good I wanted to lick the plate clean! Liked it so much we came back for dinner on Thursday evening as they have jazz. My wife got shrimp and grits and I got scallops which were excellent. The highlight was getting a creme Brulee which the sever torched at the table, it was a nice show and tasted great. The music was a little two piece group and in the front and the sound carried nicely. Highly recommended. read more

We were a little hesitant to try Eli's because recent reviews described their service levels as declining, but the food as excellent. All I can say is, trust your fellow reviewers. There's poor service, and then there's no service. I knew we might be in trouble when there was no hostess and the man who sat us looked completely out of it despite his title of Chief Operating Officer. I can't tell you about the food, because after 30 minutes of sitting with only our initial waters, we decided to leave. Mind you, this was with a reservation, on a Thursday night, where there were other diners, but it certainly wasn't full. Charleston has some amazing dining options, but it's clear Eli's is no longer one of them. read more
