Another day and another brunch in Charleston. I was given a gift certificate for Christmas for Eli's Table so today was the day. Great menu and many choices. I do enjoy an omelette so I got the Southern Omelette. My wife got the Avocado BLT. The portions were great and the taste was great also. We also loved the ambiance and the jazz music playing in the background really made for a most enjoyable brunch experience. They were short staffed but Katie got us in! So grateful she did because this was a wonderful meal. My wife had the scallops and I had the shrimp and grits. Both were delicious and the server Dylan was a great conversationalist. He just finished his masters in chemistry (very impressive) and we had a great table side conversation about nuclear fusion and aerospace propulsion. Seriously. What a wonderful romantic spot, even through COVID. We decided to spend our 10 year wedding anniversary for brunch. We were welcomed with a friendly greeting. Wonderful indoor seating, and decent size outdoor patio area. We opted to sit outside with COVID in mind. Our server was such a pleasure, and very educated about their menu. We started with their delicious , and even ordered a second plate to go. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes that were delicious, and the best plate we ordered! My husband ordered their lunch burger, and said it was the best burger he's ever had. It was huge and came with a large portion of fries. I ordered the sweet potato waffles with home fries, and Gouda cheese grits. The grits were the best, and cooked perfectly. Home fries were tasty, but the sweet potato waffles fell flat. The waffles were not delicious, and not fluffy at all. Not sure what happened with everything else was so delicious. With it being our anniversary they even provided us each with a glass of champagne. Such a sweet touch to the end of meal. We did go in the middle of week so they were not busy at all. Our first meal in Charleston! All three of us ordered the shrimp & grits, the crab cake, and I had a sangria. The shrimp & grits was bursting with flavor and was a little on the saltier side. On a whim reading Yelp reviews we had this delivered to The Spectator during a stay in Charleston. I want to say that this restaurant did not disappoint with delivery. Exceeded expectations. Often with my experience with nicer restaurants the delivery does not match the in-person dining experience. Eli's food was so good but it makes me want to actually go into the restaurant a second time. We had the roasted chicken with a risotto side. Roasted chicken is usually hit-or-miss at restaurants. Eli's Table was my favorite stop during a food tour I participated in while I was in Charleston. They served Shrimp & Grits, Chicken & Waffles and a Sweet Potato Pancake. All were delicious. The service was good. The server explained each dish to us and was really good about refilling our waters. I didn't really care for the family style serving. The only restaurant that didn't serve us individually. One of two complaints. Although the Shrimp & Grits were good I felt they were chintzy with their shrimp (Second complaint). It seemed like they cut it in thirds, which is kind of ridiculous. Grits were tasty tough. So, it made up for the frugalness. They did an excellent job with the Chicken & Waffles. Chicken was nicely made. Crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. The same with the waffle. Crispy on the outside and soft and gooey in the inside. Never had a Sweet Potato Pancake before. Went here for brunch this morning. Walking in there was one other group of two in the restaurant. So it wasn't busy. Waiter who greeted us had his mask pulled down below his nose. Duly noted and frankly set the tone for my further observations. The kitchen is an open format and visible from the seating area we were in. All the kitchen staff had masks on but they were hanging on their ears or tucked below their chin. I understand that it is hot in the kitchen as I worked in service industry for many years but during a time such as this hyper diligence is required and masks need to be worn properly especially if the restaurant advertises it. I saw items being dropped on the floor and then being picked up unsure and there was no evidence of seeing the kitchen staff go to wash the item dropped on the floor. Our main waiter along with the hostess was the only one who had his mask on properly (covering nose and mouth) Restrooms are not entirely clean and difficult to open the door with a paper towel and have a means of disposing of once the door has been open. The food was acceptable and although I appreciated the variety compared to other brunch places as we ordered the Chicken and Waffles (Sweet Potato waffles in which you could actually taste the sweet potato compared to regular waffles) As the syrup was already on the waffles it soaked through the waffles making them slightly soggy and a benedict with fried oysters and gravy instead of traditional hollandaise. It was difficult to enjoy our food as mentioned we noticed that although the restaurant advertises that they require staff to wear masks, they were either not wearing them or wearing them halfway and overall cleanliness of the establishment is questionable. I loved everything about this restaurant. I really enjoyed my visit. From the time I arrived up until the time I left. Our server Carly was absolutely amazing. She was very attentive, professional and just a delight. We loved her attitude and spirit. I'm from Maryland so we asked her what else could we do in the area and to our surprise, she brought us a list of things to do that the restaurant made!!! It was typed up and she gave her personal recommendations for for some of the things on the list. That was amazing! We had outdoor seating on their patio that was shaded just enough without the trees being over us. Everything I taste here was good. I started off with the beignets and they were great. The perfect crunch and inside softness consistency. It paired very well with the dipping sauce. For my entree I had Eli's breakfast with buttermilk pancakes. The grits were good. Very creamy. This was our first stop on our trip to Charleston, and it was definitely a great first place to go to! The service was outstanding and they offered many local favorites. Raymond . He absolutely made our night . Our 8 year old was crabby and hangery as the food was running a bit late . Raymond took time out to talk to him and make him feel special and brought him a desert. That changed everything for him . The food as always is outstanding : but the extra touch of kindness really made the experience for us . Raymond is the pastry chef and his desserts are phenomenal! Just want to give a special thanks to Corey . He made such a small gesture that went the long green mile. When I first called the restaurant, he answered and said, "Thanks for calling Eli's Table how can I make your day great?" I said, " I am about to ask a question and depending on your answer will determine if you will succeed." So then I told him, I wanted to pay for some food over the phone. He said due to fraud they couldn't, which I totally understand. I asked was there any kind of way because I made a reservation for my mom's (it's her birthday) and friend in my name and really wanted to pay for it over the phone. ( Of course, I could have easily cashapp my mom for the food. But it wouldn't have been personal and it wouldn't have felt as special). So Corey, said he could do it but I had to verify who I was and my card. We were able to make it happen over the phone. He later found my mom and friend in the restaurant and asked them do they know me and once they confirmed, he told them that their food was taken care of. But he didn't stop at that, he serviced them and went above and beyond to ensure my mom's comfort and enjoyment. He was attentive without being intrusive. My mom was extremely pleased with the ambiance, staff, food, and overall establishment. And most of all she was shocked I was able to take care of her bill from afar without sending her the money. Corey thank you so much for making that extra small comment on how to make my day great and then living up to doing so. Becuse not only did you make mine day great, you had an impact on making my mom's day special, enjoyable and memorable. It's the small things that makes a HUGE impact. Solid food :) They only had one cook the day we went so we prepared to wait a while and we did. But the food was great. Deanna was a great host and our server was courteous and comped us some fluffy-powdered sugar type doughnut hole looking things while we waited. Burger was FINALLY a full size burger, cooked well and tasted great :) fries were quality, honestly the best texture fries I've had this year. Chicken and waffles also pretty good. So I'm not sure why an angry British guy told us to not eat here but he was wrong. It was a beautiful Sunday. We showed up with 10 people and no reservations. We were seated in about 5 minutes and all together. I don't think the food service was slow at all. The kids got waffles. My sister and I got Eli's breakfast. Some got the ham and brie sandwich. A smattering of things from the menu. Every single plate was cleared. And while I like grits in a general way, their Gouda grits were amazing. Great flavor and texture. Also tasty mimosas. The bigger thing was Roscoe who stopped by. We assume he was a manager. Super friendly. Saw our ravens shirts and offered advice and addresses on where to catch the game. And my son, who is named Eli, enjoyed talking to him. And roscoe played along with him. It was very sweet. Of course now he really does want a shirt. read more

I went her for brunch. I was very excited about the menu options. We were seated very quickly which was a plus. It was very busy. The place had a very friendly ambiance, and the manager was walking around saying hello. I liked that aspect. Now to the food. It was not very fresh, and warm despite waiting a little longer for the meal. My guest had to ask for the meal to be heated up more, because it came out slightly cold/warm. The side of biscuits tasted like they had been reheated, and served. The lettuce on the wedge salad was old, and tasted that way. The beignets were over fried, and too crunchy. The items we liked were the pimento cheese/fried green tomatoes, and the shrimp and grits. They were tasty. Overall a decent meal. Not my favorite, but also not my worst. read more

The Boy and I made a habit to indulge in a Southern brunch every morning and with the help of Yelp we came across Eli's Table! Visiting Charleston in the middle of the week at end of February to beginning March sure had its perks and one of them was low-traffic brunches. Eli's Table has a quaint ambiance with beautiful paintings on each wall. Really aligned with our quick trip getaway vibes. I had the Charleston Red Rice Breakfast Hash. I loved the two over-easy eggs drizzling yolk on to the smoked sausage and red rice risotto. The creme fraiche on top was delicious as well. Boy got the French Onion Benedict which came with two poached eggs, grilled tenderloin medallions, caramelized onions on texas toast with a side of breakfast potatoes - all drizzled in hollandaise. However, Eli's Table has always been good to me and my family, and my last experience there has gained my eternal loyalty. Being our first night out since the start of the pandemic, my partner and I wanted to do something special. I unsure his name but the young man with large hair (Caesar?) greeted us and made us feel right at home. I got the Ribeye and I don't know if it's just been so long since I've had it, or if it really was the best dish I've ever had. My partner surprised me with the bold choice of duck & waffles.. IT WAS AMAZING! I stole the leftovers in the morning.. shhhhh . I don't write a ton of these but I felt like I had to come to yelp after this experience. 10/10 read more

This restaurant is right in downtown Charleston right with in walking distance of everything you would be looking to do. We sat outside at one of the outdoor tables. The food was great - we had the BLT's which were supposed to come with avocado on them but they were out of avocado. It honestly was probably better without anyways. Didn't get the whole story but something about her helping corral an alligator on her cousin's property in Florida and getting hit with the tail. Thank you for being an amazing last Southern meal before my family and I flew back up to snowy cold Chicago. My sister made reservations but it wasn't too busy on the weeknight we stopped in. For all the rave, I wasn't expected a modesty decorated restaurant with white table clothes. The atmosphere felt conservative compared to the other seafood restaurants we'd been visiting around town. However, the flavor and presentation of our meal blew me away. We ordered all the Eli specials (minus the mussels app) and weren't disappointed! Their Gouda infused shrimp & grits were my favorite in the Charleston area. The short rib was cooked to perfection (no picture since it looked like a brown mass - I blame my Pixel3). And my mom loved their she crab soup. I'll even rave about their wedge salad.. everything was so good! The only dish that I personally didn't love was the duck and hash. The rest of my family enjoyed the dish; beautifully plated and the duck very tender (this was what threw me off since I'm used to the texture of Asian roast duck). To top off an amazing meal, we ordered two desserts: beignets and creme brulee. The creme brulee was fired at the table and the beignets freshly powdered on the spot. I got boomerangs to prove it!
