I forgot to review this place, but my girlfriend and I were in the area and decided to somewhere fancy and we have no regrets coming to Eli's s table for dinner. The food here was incredible. I don't remember what we got other than I got a steak, but everything tasted amazing and the service was perfect. The restaurant itself was very classy and had a nice energy. I'm not much of a drinker but my girlfriend got some drinks and they weren't that bad in my opinion. She enjoyed the drinks though. By far the best dinner I've had in Charleston (across many visits over the past few years). This place will now be a staple for me every time I am in town. We had Carson as our server, who was excellent, as was the rest of the staff. The fried green tomato app was so good, I'd be hard pressed not to order several as my meal next time. I had the risotto, which was excellent. Our teen had the steak and despite not usually not finishing a meal she left not one crumb on her plate, and then ate her sisters leftovers. She said it was the best steak she's ever had! We really had to convince ourselves not to eat here every night of our trip, but decided to try a few other places for variety and comparison purposes. Incredible disappointment. I saw great reviews about this place and decided to order their "Eli's lunch" along with a Caesar salad for pickup/delivery. Very disappointed in what I received. Single small piece of chicken and a few pieces of potato, and the smallest amount of vegetables. Caesar salad was no better, one could compare it to a salad ordered from a cheap fast food restaurant. Food tasted pretty good but at $26 ($9 for salad $17 for lunch) for my order before taxes or anything else, this is a ripoff. My first visit to Charleston and brunch at Eli's Table was a memorable highlight. I had a wonderful experience; the food was delicious and the hospitality very welcoming. It wasn't easy deciding what to order since all the menu items sounded so good, but I finally went with the Chicken & Waffles (comes with sweet potato waffles and cinnamon butter!). I couldn't resist ordering dessert (chocolate mousse cake) because it's my weakness and I'm on holiday, I'm gonna have cake at brunch. Everything was tasty; can't go wrong with the classics. I sat in the outdoor patio which feels like a hidden oasis tucked away at the back of the restaurant -- a lovely and peaceful little courtyard. Recommend by our hotel, and literally a 2 minute walk. We took the opportunity to stop by. Firstly it's a Monday! Here in Charleston at 5:30pm. We have a very early start to dinner. Our hostess was warm and welcoming! As the entire restaurant was empty. Just us and the staff. Our server was amazing and spot on! With service, not over baring, just extremely attentive. My husband had a Bloody Mary, I had an ultimate mimosa. Both drinks really good & best part they don't skimp on the liquor. Which is very refreshing! As most bars, I water their drinks down for profit. Fried green tomatoes! Award winning & spot friggin on. Duck and waffles cooked to perfection. My husband had the Rib Eye & again DIVINE!!! Literally the steak just melted in your mouth. Baby Girl, had Shrimp and Grits: and a Grilled Cheese. So much food, we nearly tapped out. Until dessert came! Last week, I was invited to dine at Eli's Table, so I brought along my trusty sidekick, Elise D. I was, admittedly, underwhelmed at the thought of eating at Eli's because I had a 3-star experience there at a RW meal a couple of years ago. I used to think of Eli's as purely tourist fodder, but after the meal that I had last week, I have to say: I am a convert. As a food blogger, when I go to restaurants, they tend to up their game, but Eli's knocked it totally out of the park. We were greeted with champagne by the maître d', Raymond, who had personality and charm oozing out of every pore (seriously, this guy rocks). He was super knowledgeable about every dish on the menu, which wines paired best with which dish, and details about every wine (in the whole world, I'm assuming). We did a special tasting of many of the restaurant's most popular dining options. To get us ready and excited, Raymond started us off with a little amuse bouche of smoked salmon on a house-made cracker with goat cheese and scallion. I'm not normally a fan of smoked salmon, but the creaminess of the goat cheese calmed the smokiness of the salmon, so it was quite enjoyable. Also tried the Prosciutto and Fig Crostini. I've never had anything with prosciutto and goat cheese that I didn't like, and this was no different. I really liked the salty/sweet/creamy combo. We also tried a mini version of the Grilled Asparagus Salad. The asparagus was cooked so it was perfectly tender without being slimy. We also got to try a bit of the Shrimp and Grits. The grits were super rich and creamy and I loved the extra depth from the smoked gouda and tasso gravy. The shimp was perfectly cooked and had a little bit of spice to it... if you're a fan of shrimp and grits, you'll love Eli's version! We also tried their Southern Fried Crab Cake, which they don't use any bread or crackers at all in, which is refreshingly different. I loved that the outside was a little crispy and the remoulade had lots of flavor. My favorite course of the night was their Catch of the Day, which happened to be red snapper. The fish was cooked and seasoned beautifully, and was a perfect complement to the crawfish butter and red rice risotto. There was a nice bit of smokiness to the dish, which they add by using an applewood smoking gun on the sausage in the risotto, which really made the dish stand out. Even if you don't like fish, I feel like you'd love this dish. The final entree was one of their signature dishes (and one I see pop up on Instagram all the time): Duck and Waffles. Because I'm a difficult person, this was probably my least favorite of everything we ate. There wasn't anything inherently bad about it, I just found the gaminess of the duck to overpower the entire dish (and this is coming from someone who loves duck). The waffles on their own were really good, and the brussels sprouts were amazing, perfectly crispy and awesome with the malted bacon glaze. Raymond delivered with Crème Brûlée that was scorched at the table, which made me feel decadent and special (even though it's something they do for everyone, but still). It was a stellar Crème Brûlée, and I highly recommend it! My favorite dessert (and probably my 2nd favorite thing I ate the entire meal) was a special chocolate dessert that Raymond made special for that day. It was chock full of Kahlua-soaked pound cake, house-made vanilla bean ice cream, praline crumbles, fresh local blackberries, and, what I can only assume was all the chocolate syrup in a 5-mile radius. I wish there was more time on my vacation to come back here! We stopped here along the way of one of the food tours. This was by far my favorite spot!!! You need to come here! Everything I ate was amazing and I went in thinking I didn't even like the food lol. We had fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese which I highly suggest. I don't normally like tomatoes but these were really good. We also had shrimp and grits.. again I didn't think I like grits. Well turns out if you make them this way they are outstanding. Went there after having just adopted a one pound 8 weeks old Chihuahua from a shelter and the racist manager made us sit outside in the horrible heat and surrounded by flies. When we complained he told us to get out of the property (what a jerk!!) I told him that I wanted to pay the check and he refused to give me instead he called the cops on us I could not believe it! When the cops came I explained the situation and they apologized to us. I paid my bill and left. Horrible experience!!! I will sue them for treating us so horribly. read more

We made reservations for Eli's more than a month before traveling to Charleston and the reservation was for 9AM. We get there to see a sign in the window saying they were opening at 9:30AM instead on this particular day, so we decided to walk around and kill time. Got there at 9:25 and clearly they opened sooner, as there was a long line and people seated inside. While waiting (and we were next) two more parties walked in and when the hostess came back, so totally looked past me at them and went to check them in. I advised her I was waiting ahead of them and she snapped at me. Then she simply acted rude after that. We were seated and ordered. Kayla was amazing as a server and she pretty much made up for the poor service of the hostess. Kayla was very attentive and helpful and kept checking on us. My wife ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup, which looked really good when it arrived, but she couldn't eat it as it was way too salty. So, Kayla quickly checked to see if they had She Crab Soup and brought her that as a substitute. She enjoyed that soup. I ordered Eli's breakfast, as it had the logo next to it indicating it was a specialty. The only thing special about it was the biscuit, that was amazing! The scrambled eggs were lackluster (no flavor). The bacon was amazing. The potatoes were decent. But overall, it was a basic breakfast. There was a heavy smell, odd smell in the area where we sat and the restroom was loaded with fruit flies, which kind of grossed us out, as it was next to where they were storing vegetables (they had a delivery while we were there, so we saw where they store them). About the time us and the tables around us were finishing up breakfast, the hostess came around giving everyone a card with their server's name on it asking us all to give them a positive review on social media and refer to our server so she could get a gift card. We did appreciate our server, she deserves a gift card, but to solicit reviews like that is just odd. Ate here Wednesday evening and it was by far some of the best atmosphere, food, and service I've had at a restaurant. Maggie waited on us and was knowledgeable, fun, and sweet (as was all the staff). Her recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed the mussels and prosciutto appetizers which were both phenomenal. Then for meals we had the catch of the day (swordfish...YUM), scallops, and another entree I can't remember the name of. But everything was phenomenal. We may be out of towners but the next time we vacation in Charleston we will be going back! Almost forgot to mention the bartender Kean (I hope I spelled it right). Where to begin. Flies, food poisoning, dirty kitchen, flavorless food... I have visited thousands of restaurants in three different continents. I've frequented cheap food trucks, casual eateries, upscale restaurants, and Michelin Star fine dining establishments. I can tell you without exaggeration that Eli's Table doesn't even fit anywhere on the above list because it was so horrendously terrible that I'd say it's the worst restaurant I've ever been to. It was dirty, tacky, repulsive, and a ripoff. We were seated in the "terrace," which is actually a repurposed parking lot with dumpsters nearby. There was a very noisy airline jet engine-like industrial fan blowing on us. We asked to turn it off, which they did. That's when the fun began. There were multiple dozens of flies swarming us and our food. It was impossible to eat or speak without having flies in our food or mouth. The Cesar salad consisted of minced old lettuce leaves that were way past their sell-by date, with no dressing at all. The filet was ordered cooked Medium Well, and instead was actually cooked Medium Rare on one side, and Well Done on the other side. The halibut was so over cooked that it could have doubled as a paperweight. The side of mashed potatoes was extremely thick, cold, and flavorless. The mushrooms were completely charred and inedible. The risotto was a shapeless mush. Overall, none of the food was seasoned whatsoever and it tasted like expensive nothingness. Lastly, but importantly, after eating here, my guest and I had food poisoning and spent the better part of the evening in the restroom. Our only regret was not getting up from our table and leaving before eating a single bite. If you ever want to disappoint yourself and your friends and family and you feel like throwing money in the trash , then go to Eli's Table and "enjoy" the ride. Make sure to take a good look at the open kitchen, and if you still have a stomach to eat there, then bring some Pepto Bismol and a sickness bag. You WILL need it. read more

After (willingly) waiting extra time because the kitchen the kitchen wasn't ready, we watched as the hostess engaged wait staff in social activities and they were quite busy on their phones instead of refilling coffee. When it arrived, some of the food was ok. The crab cakes tasted fishy and weren't seasoned very well. After our food arrived, we had no luck getting a coffee refill. The wait staff wasn't helping each other. And there were 3 people working the hostess stand doing...? Eli's Table has good reviews and my experience also reflects this. However, if you're looking for southern food, there are many places you can go to get delicious food for a cheaper price. I came here for dinner on a Thursday night around 7pm with a group of five with a reservation. The restaurant is small, so be aware that a reservation is probably a good idea. The ambiance is fairly upscale, and there is a small bar within the location as well. I ended up getting the shrimp and grits, marked as one of their specialties. Although it was very good, I've had shrimp and grits elsewhere that was just as good for less money (Early Bird Diner is a good example). I also had some red rice risotto as a side, and it was tasty and moist. My friend had the duck and waffles though which looked good, and was an interesting departure from the traditional chicken and waffles. Overall, I would say that this is a good place if you want a cozy, intimate dining experience with some southern food that is prepared in a more elevated way. But I think I'll pass on coming here again unless another group invite happens to come my way. read more

Let's start with the hospitality first, they were all so friendly and welcoming. The hostess, Deanna was super friendly. She chatted with us for a while and gave us recommendations where to walk to and all the tourists spots. I'm somewhat socially awkward and boy did she made me comfortable to be able to carry on our conversation. She gave us a complimentary dessert when she found out that it was our 33rd wedding anniversary. What a nice gesture and a sweet woman! Let me not forget about our server, Steven. We wanted so badly to like this place. We didn't do too much planning for our first night in Charleston and walked by this place. It smelled incredible, so we saw the reviews and thought it was a good bet. I ordered the vegetarian risotto which was delicious. However, the rest of our meal was incredibly disappointing. My husband had the duck and waffles and ordered the southern risotto side (can't remember the exact name). His face dropped as soon as the food arrived. The duck was cooked well but the waffles were soggy and the risotto side was unremarkable and clumpy? There just wasn't a lot of care taken with this food or meal presentation or freshness for the price point. Additionally the restaurant just feels a bit run down and unclean. There were a lot of fruit flies in the bathroom which was incredibly off putting (think flying into your face while you're in there). There's so many places to eat in Charleston! Of course I used Yelp to guide me and Eli's restaurant came up with great ratings. We made reservations using the Resy app at 9:30am for a 12:30pm spot. I was surprise there was availability, but it was a weekday. The app was quite easy to use. Appetizer: Beet salad and beignets. While the beet salad was nicely done with basil ricotta, seasoned arugula, the beignets were undercooked. The middle was in its dough form. Entrees: We had the poach eggs with crab cakes, avocado croissant sandwich with breakfast potatoes, son had the BLT sandwich and Eli's catch of the day (blackened grouper) Charleston red rice risotto, pickled sweet corn relish, crawfish butter. My poach egg crab cakes were good, but I felt the crab meat was lacking. There were more "fillers" in the cake than I wanted. Note: my son has allergies to nuts and seafood. There wasn't so much selections he could get, hence the BLT. I only wished the manager or chef would have visited us vs the server going back and forth to the kitchen to figure out what was safe for him to eat. This is huge in my book. I know I could have simply asked for the manager but we felt safe with the BLT sandwich. We did not have dessert. Service was great. Our server made small conversation in the beginning and did check on us often. I felt the environment could have some background light music. It was cramped inside. While visiting Charleston for the first time, my first meal in town was at Eli's Table. We booked it in advance because we requested outdoor seating to be able to eat with my dog! The back patio area is very spacious and a much nicer area to sit at (vs inside) in my opinion! It was so warm and sunny. If it's your first time, I'd recommend ordering family style to share all of the meals - then you get to taste everything they have to offer! The shrimp and grits & the fish with red sauce were definitely highlights of the meal. I wish I lived in town and could eat here more often :( read more

We ended up there by walking by and saw and smelled the food! It was so attractive that we went in to eat. We luckily were seated promptly ( the couple behind us had to wait 30 minutes). Our server, Maggie, was a bubbling fountain of knowledge and gave us a lot of ideas about the menu. The wine list is limited but adequate and we found a good sauv blanc. The fried green tomato napoleon was creative and very tasty. The risottos were excellent. I had the chef's daily special, and it was chock full of seafood of all types. Such an amazing restaurant! Food and service was stellar...with the shrimp and grits Benedict being the star, (I substituted hollandaise for the Tasso gravy).
