Never got a chance to try the food they said they close at 7pm but tried to order just before 6:30 pm and they wouldn't take our order...one thing my people gonna do is close early..it is what it is. One day I'll get to order from their tiny little window out front, then I can update my review once

Today is my first time eating here and I did DoorDash who btw did a awesome job and got my food here quickly! Now let's get to the food! I ordered 4 sides in one tray for 17.00 on DoorDash I chose Dressing, Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens, Black Eyed Peas, I ordered one corn bread Muffin and One Dinner roll. I also ordered a side of Yams for 5.00 each side is 5.00 If you want seasoning on this food and you plan to eat in the car bring seasoning salt hot sauce salt pepper whatever you like because you won't get that on the food or with it. The collards I never tasted Collards like this there was no taste no seasoning no meat flavor from smoked Turkey smoke anything like people who cook soul do there were no onions no red pepper flakes pepper flakes no garlic nothing for flavor! The black eyed peas all they did was cook them there is no flavor no nothing in them nothing! The Dressing they forgot to add poultry , sage these are things that make dressing taste like dressing they don't use it if so I don't taste it I do taste some salt, the Mac and Cheese was cheesy it wasn't that great but better than the rest. My side yams were Amazing I must say that! The dinner rolls I tasted a little bit they are homemade they are ok but I wanted cornbread as well but it don't matter because the food ain't right! I'm disappointed 38.00 for this food and none of it is seasoned I messed up my leg which is why I ordered this I should have just risked it all and cooked my darn self! There may be better stuff here try it for yourself and if you got health issues where you can't eat salt this is the joint to go to you'll be in heaven! Everything ain't for everybody applies here! I won't be back! Period! P.S. the ones saying the food is good maybe it's good to them maybe they ordered some different food than me maybe their taste buds is different than mines! I grew up with having flavor in my food maybe they didn't, maybe they taste flavor but I do not! I'm not here to be saying food is good just because I know the people who made it or because they are in the neighborhood or because they was extra nice to me forget that imma be honest with you regardless ! My reviews are my honest reviews it's important to me that I tell you the truth and I'm not apologizing for who don't like it because others are looking at this they want to know the truth so I'm not about lying about no food I want to see every business win! So there it is I didn't care for the food but it's obvious others do because this place is still open and does lots of business I wish them all the success in the world however like I said before, everything ain't for everybody and this place is not for me but hey go try it for yourself you may love it and that would be cool!

I got the smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese, and yams. That's the first thing I need to say. This is my first review ever and I ABSOLUTELY needed to write this. If I could give it a 10/5 I would. Arguably some of the best soul food I've had in such a long time. I won't lie to you, I pulled up to the restaurant and I was a little skeptical because there's only 2 sliding windows and no way to get in for real. But don't judge a book by it's cover y'all, trust me! I highly suggest ordering ahead, it will take a while for them to get everything together, but trust me it is so worth the wait! I'm coming here every time I'm in the area

Smothered chicken with greens and dressing. OMG! SO GOOD! Literally everything was done right!

I wanted…read moreto try a restaurant that I had not been to and saw this one on FB and decided to do something different. I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant before. First, the restaurant is up two flights of steps and there is no elevator. I injured my knee and walked up the stairs. Second, when I was seated and shown the menu, I was shocked at the very limited options. They only offer white- meat chicken, no rice or plain sides. I was going to try the greens but the server said they put vinegar on them which I don't care for. The Brussels sprouts with corn is a hard pass. I had no other choice but ordered something that I would never put together as a meal: fried catfish, sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts with corn. The fish was fried hard and needed seasoning and the sprouts were forgettable. They brought out hot sauce on the side assuming all people want hot/ spicy food. I wanted tartar sauce and they didn't have a traditional sauce- they had a " Cajun- style sauce." My friend had a crab cake for $25. When I called about parking, the hostess mentioned the cash lot behind the restaurant and.a parking structure across the street. She didn't mention that it was extremely expensive, I paid $24.49 for 1 hour and 6 minutes in the structure. Oh, I almost forgot that they added a 20% gratuity automatically for a party of 2! So, overall, my catfish dinner, 1 crab cake appetizer, and $2 up charge for the Brussels brought my bill to $74. Plus, the $24.49 for parking was a $100 night with no liquor only to have to leave and go eat elsewhere as what I wasted money on left me hungry and unsatisfied for sure.

Originally I had 6 pieces of meat in the meal but I thankfully checked my bag as directed to on the signs. I inquired and the container was filled with what I should have gotten as a dinner. Maybe the staff member was new that initial did my order. They were polite. More than 1/2 was tough, some even so much not edible. Disappointing because I really wanted some rib tips. The cornbread was dry and crumbly. Cornbread is not difficult or long cooking so I'm not sure why I'd get old cornbread midday on a Saturday. Or they need to retool the recipe. In my head, I would think that portions would be sampled by the cook to ensure consistency, but I've never worked in a fast past restaurant so I don't know the process. Sides: dressing was good and not overly salty. Yams had too much sugar for me. I bought another meal for someone to eat and I hope it was better. A 1/2 chicken meal was $20. Overall, not with the $25+ tax I paid today. The staff was pleasant. The area was kept clean. However, the meat was a failure. I would be fine paying $25 of the meat was cooked correctly. I would not recommend going here for bbq as they have a not cash return policy. It is store credit or a gift card even if the food is poorly made. Likely need to go to a bbq specific restaurant next time. I have no plans on driving way back to the restaurant and just count it as a loss. The prices are equivalent to sit down restaurants without the service or quality.

For our appetizer we ordered Firecracker shrimp, Fried green tomatoes, and Sweet potato muffins. We also had the complimentary corn bread. The appetizers and sweet potatoes muffins were delicious. The cornbread was dense and okay. For our main course we ordered turkey chops, and they came with two sides. We chose mac and cheese and red beans and rice. The turkey chops were ok but the sides were trash. The red beans and rice were (see picture) dry and the macaroni and cheese (see pictures) as well. The mac and cheese was cheeseless. We also ordered the catfish dinner with okra and yams. The yams were delicious and the okra was okay. The catfish skin was dark like old oil was used. It appeared to be cornmeal fried and hard. I should have specified how I wanted them. We also order the waffle and the chickens and there were no complaints. Honestly, we've been to Cornbread many times. Previously, I've always given 5 stars and haven't ever had any complaints but something drastically changed. The drinks as well didn't taste the same and we were told that the bartender was new. We didn't want to complain or send our food back due to our past experiences at other restaurants but we did take pictures. The service was great. But honestly, I do not believe that we will ever return.

We arrived shortly after they opened. There was almost no one there when we arrived. It was the most unorganized mess of an experience I've ever had. No joke. We ordered 2 drinks and the Aretha Franklin Chicken, 2 sides, and cornbread. We were told it would be 20-30 minutes until the chicken was ready. No problem. After 30 minutes we still didn't have our drinks, but the waitress reappeared to tell us our drinks would be out soon and the chicken would be ready in about 20 minutes. In the end, it took about 40 minutes to get our drinks and 1 1/2 hours to get our chicken. Even paying the bill took lots of effort. There were multiple customers who went inside to try to find the waitress and pay their bill. After 20 minutes of searching we were finally able to pay and leave. I'm all in for a not-rushed experience, but there's no reason to leave people baking in the sun for 40 minutes before you can bring them their drinks. We should have left, but we were locked in to discover if the chicken was as good as promised. The answer is no, unfortunately. It was fine. Very tender, but seemingly no seasoning at all. Also, they were out of cornbread and didn't have the ingredients to make our drinks the right way. The entertainment was good. We were outside, so there was a one man band blues singer who was pretty good. I hope Bert's can get it together. It's a great concept and a great location. If you go, have plenty of time and be prepared to wait. Perhaps you should bring a few drinks and snacks with you to fill the time until they can serve you.
