Wow! The best cinnamon roll I've ever had. Slightly crunchy without being dry or stale. The icing wasn't overtly sweet and you could taste the cinnamon and butter in every bite- yes get it heated up. Egg sandwich (we got a sausage and bacon one) excellent! Different approach but still flavorful and not messy, or greasy- we loved the tomato jam. The only thing I wasn't totally crazy about was the latte. Excellent milk frothing but the flavor (I got the seasonal lavender) was very faint. I just wish it was more lavender forward. Service was amazing, we sat outside and they still came around to grab plates.

Ordered a croissant and cappuccino. There was a line so coffee took 10 min longer than the immediate croissant. Coffee was near perfect excellent latte work and temperature. Yo my taste it lacked a bit more coffee flavor meaning it felt a hair acidic and I don't want to say sour. Croissant was very crispy and loved that texture. Unlike traditional one it was made with what looks like whole wheat. To me it lacked the butteriness and a bit dry. I will definitely try other pastries.

Food wasn't too impressive. Banh mi didn't taste like Banh mi at all. Quiche also tasted weird. Nice vibes and good service but wouldn't come here for a meal.

I came here for a girls brunch on Sunday. What a great place to have authentic French cuisine. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was so good. I had an egg sandwich with avocado, bacon and cheese with a peppermint tea and a cinnamon bun. I had a great time and I am looking forward to going back and trying more things.

Great little coffee house located in the arts District of downtown Providence. It was a little bit crowded, but Alane our hostess was able to secure a table for four against the window. The line moves very efficiently. Everyone here is so nice and friendly. They really made us feel at home. The food here is simply divine simple yet elegant. Their signature breakfast sandwich that you can order with different kinds of protein, like bacon sausage etc. was cooked to perfection. We also had the chocolate croissant which was so light and flaky with a bit of semi dark chocolate it was a perfect bite with their delicious coffee. If you're in the downtown arts District of Providence, this is definitely worth a stop.

2nd time coming to Ellie's, but first time dining in and taking in the beutiful atmosphere and freshness of the cafe. First off they use New Harvest medium roast with a nutty and graham cracker like tones, Im usually not a fan of medium roast of nutty tones, but my the barista and those beans. He pulled a perfect shot on my latte and it was heavenly. The food and service are so welcoming, staff is politely checking in on every table and those in lines. I highly appreciate the love the staff show for the place. I recommend arriving early to beat the line and grab the perfect tables near the windows for that warmth touch and scenery. I arrived just before 9 beating the crowd and got a great table and a parking spot on the street a few yards away. I will keep recommending this place to my friends and family!

Oh la la. One of the most charming breakfast spots in the country. Fabulous hand-crafted food, amazing country-French ambience, and kind people. Ellie's make me feel like I've been transported to Paris.

This is the kind of place you just want to be. Warm, welcoming, and effortlessly charming. There is a ton of seating- indoor/outdoor style. We stopped in for breakfast and were immediately greeted by the friendliest staff. Genuinely kind people who made us feel right at home. I had the daily quiche, which was packed with ham and nestled in a homemade rosemary crust that was buttery, flaky, and full of flavor. We also shared a massive croissant. And the chai was a standout. It's a house blend from a local company, perfectly sweetened.

I really want to like Ellie's as much as I used to but alas! Pre-Covid Ellie's was my go-to for work meetings, catering, and pre-PPAC. My most recent visit was with PVD Coffee Crawls and I will at least say the workers on the weekend were actually nice and my drink was tasty. Over the last few years when I've gone to visit on weekdays, the staff are rude and I left multiple times with not a full order. I went back a few times because it was for work and this was their preferred place to order from. But the last time I went there for a work order I appalled. The cashier was kind but he seemed new so didn't seem to know much. The woman filling the pastry order was talking to co workers and didn't seem to care that I was waiting and there was a line. She then gave me my order and didn't give me my 24 macaroons. Then gave me attitude that she had to get boxes downstairs for them. When i finally got to the office I was missing 3 of the pastries that I paid for, and one that I asked for but never ended up on my receipt. Wasn't worth the call back to them honestly. I've gone for lunch with a friend before too, she really wanted to try it and then her sandwich was burnt. I don't really get the hype. It is super cute but very expensive and not consistent quality and sometimes the service is downright rude.

We were looking for a brunch spot and came upon Ellie's new location. It's a nice venue, new, bright and lined with windows. They also have a row of tables outside. We grabbed an open table and placed our order at the counter. We selected: * Signature Breakfast Sandwich: Hen egg, Cabot cheddar, tomato jam * Side Dish: 1 Fried Egg * French Brie: black mission fig jam, toasted Marcona almonds, tender baby greens Though you order at the counter, your food is brought to the table, and we thought the service was friendly and excellent. The Breakfast Sandwich is much, much better than any fast-food restaurant, but it needed more sauce, as it was too dry. The fried egg side is a round, flat and dry egg, which I added to the breakfast sandwich which is on the smaller side. Overall, it was okay, but not great. The French Brie sandwich was tastier than the breakfast sandwich, the jam and nuts added flavor and crunch. We prefer a warm brie; this brie is a cold block of brie which we didn't find too appealing. We will return here and try some other dishes. Overall, 3.5-stars rounded up to 4-stars because of the venue and speedy service.

Rating: 4.3 Came to try Ellie's for breakfast. It's a breakfast/bakery restaurant on Westminster street in Providence. Street parkings available. When we got there there was a line waiting out the door. After looking at the menu we decided to place order online while we visited Mariachi Japanese grocery market. By the time we finished at the grocery store the order was ready. We came back and grabbed our drink and food and sat down to eat. Inside and outside seatings are available. I ordered breakfast sandwich with extra egg, sausage, and avocado, chocolate croissants and iced mocha. I added chocolate as sweetener for iced mocha and it was perfectly sweet with hint of chocolate flavor. It was not too sweet and you can taste the hint of chocolate as well as the coffee. The chocolate croissant was nice and flaky, fluffy and little bit of chocolates inside. I preferred more chocolate but was still tasty. The breakfast sandwich was simple but was still pretty good. Nicely cooked fluffy egg with savory flavor of sausage pairs well with tomato jams. My only gripe was that avocado wasn't included probably a mistake. Service was ok the long line can be frustrating. Luckily we just bypassed it with online order. Overall the place was good. I like the place and would come back. I would always plan to order a head because I don't think I would go there if i have to wait in a line. Parking can be tricky during busy hours as well since it's in Providence.

We were looking for a place to go for dessert and wine before our PPAC show and thought Ellie's fit the bill! We walked in and were able to grab a seat without an issue. It did quickly fill up soon after and space was at a premium. The two waitstaff were both super friendly, but also very overrun! Unfortunately we were surprised to see that with the wienbar they do not offer dessert. Well let me clarify, we ordered wine and a coffee, and then were directed to the small plates. We didn't see any dessert out or anything on the menu. By the time our server came back to our table we just had to give them the check and go. Such a mixed opportunity to not have lovely after dinner desserts out. The wine was tasty and they had a great selection. Also appreciated that the price point was very reasonable. They also had live music which was a nice touch. I'll head in again soon during the day!

For a casual lunch & coffee I decided to check out Ellie's. A short wait in line later, I put in my order at the counter, took a number, and hunted down a seat. My large drip coffee ($3.5) seemed satisfactory, not over extracted (read: brewed in the morning and Sat in a pot all day). My croque monsieur ($19), with its thick heavy cream sauce, replete with Dijon, has become my favorite rendition of this item. Quite a shame that the fries had cooled down somewhat. Otherwise, those thin fries, crisped and lightly salted, proved delicious. read more

Charming place. My latte was delicious. It's not watered down, unlike other coffee shops. I also tried the scone & croissant. The 2 pastries I had weren't overly sweet, which is perfect. The croissant was made with whole wheat flour...different & delicious. read more

Ellie's recently moved to a new location, which is quite nice and sunny! It was quite busy when I went around lunch time, perhaps even busier than their old location used to be. I got their apple tart, which was yummy and quite filling, with a nice crispy crust outside. The pumpkin spice latte was decent, but could be a bit more flavorful. I was able to do work there fairly well, but just make sure you have noise cancelling headphones! read more

Ellie's is a part of the Too Good To Go organization, which gave me ample examples of their pastries to try. I would recommend to my fellow yelpers to download the app for the Too Good To Go. The shop is settled into downtown Providence and parking is okay. The variety of foods is good and they know what they are doing in the bakery! The staff is super friendly, the seating is both inside and outside good for people watching. I am hard put to name one fantastic pastry, they are all wonderful. The vibe is chill and you will soon be hooked. P.S. try the Monkey bread for a serious sweet craving. read more

If you've ever dreamed of paying $25 for a grilled cheese WITHOUT the chicken you ordered--only to have the chicken show up later in a separate takeout box--then Ellie's is your place. It's like a DIY sandwich kit WITH a side of confusion. The grilled cheese and chicken itself? Not great, bland, dry and messily thrown together. I've had better sandwiches made by toddlers. As for the service, let's just say it matched the sandwich--indifferent and forgettable. Between the price, the missing chicken, and the underwhelming food, this was truly a masterclass in how to NOT impress a customer. Thanks, Ellie's, for reminding me that not all hype is worth buying into. I'll take my appetite (and $25) elsewhere next time. read more

I came here for the first time for restaurant week, and really enjoyed the experience. You order at the counter and many things are brought to you where you sit down. At points in the Sunday lunch hour, the line got a little long and slow because the person at the counter was preparing some drinks and pastries along with getting orders. There is a good mix of small tables and more communal large tables. I was with a friend and we got two seats at a large communal table and it was perfect. I enjoyed the salad and Italian Beef sandwich I got. The bread was excellent. The filling could probably have been a little more interesting, but it was good. My friend got the squash sandwich, and that seemed like a more creative and unique sandwich. The Peppermint cake was also good. I am a big frosting fan, and I would say this frosting was a little more rich than I personally prefer, but overall a nice and festive piece of cake. My friend and I were there for about 2 hours in the afternoon, and it was a nice environment to catch up and enjoy the people watching in downtown Providence. read more

Staff were nice and the place is cute on the inside, but the food is poorly flavored, even the cinnamon buns and the lattes. The ham on my breakfast sandwich tasted funny after a few bites so I stopped eating it and left. Soon after I got horrible food poisoning from this establishment. They need a flavor makeover and better food safety protocols. read more

Place gets a 5/5 for ambience. Maybe even a 6/5. Coffee was superb, 5/5. Croissants? The food carries more weight (and my doctor keeps reminding me), but not as impressive. - Almond croissant: Huge, crusty, and with a rough texture all the way through even though greasy. We were in town for a conference and stopped by for brunch on the weekend with a few colleagues. You order first at the counter, and then find an available table. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. On this particular occasion, we were informed that they were closing in ~1 hour for a private event. Luckily we had enough time to enjoy our brunch and treats. As time progressed, we noticed that they stopped taking orders closer to the start time of the event. I went with my usual drink order of an iced London Fog. Additionally, I ordered a breakfast sandwich and substituted a croissant for the bread, plus a parfait on the side. For a treat, I couldn't decide on just one, so I ended up with both a strawberry rose champagne macaron and a chocolate bouchon! read more

Adorable little cafe in the heart of downtown Providence. Order at the counter and grab a table (inside or outdoor). Small menu, but all sounded delicious. I opted for a breakfast sandwich, croque monsieur, poutine, croissant & a slice of Pina colada cake. My favorite was the poutine, the gravy was fantastic, perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. The breakfast sandwich was also very good, although I did wish the sausage was bigger, at least the same size as English muffin. The croissant was meh, I was disappointed with the texture. Went to Ellie's Bakery soft re-opening this week. I couldn't decide between the French green lentil salad or the peach & heirloom tomato salad so I let them surprise me. She selected the former: French green lentils, mixed greens, baba ganoush, cucumber, kalamata olives, feta, dill, parsley & celery fronds with a tahini dressing plus grilled chicken. This is a boutique "Parisian" style cafe serving up top notch breakfast, coffee, and sweet treats. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on a croissant that was absolutely delicious. It paired well with the tasty latte and yogurt parfait that accompanied it. I stopped for lunch with a group of 4 while visiting Providence from out of town. There was a sizable line to order at the register before sitting down, so be prepared to wait if you are visiting at peak times on the weekend. The wait was definitely worth it and we were able to get a good table after we ordered our food. The servers were friendly and attentive. Food was brought out about 15 minutes later, hot and fresh. If I'm ever back in Providence, I will be visiting Ellie's again! read more

How have I not left a review for Ellie's before?! I find this shocking. From before they opened across PPAC to when they began dinner service to now, I have been an avid fan and follower. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing, their coffees expertly made, and don't get me started on desserts. Just wow. (Their famous macarons are not photographed by me because I'm allergic to almonds, but I otherwise highly recommend them!) This is such a cozy spot and truly home grown. It's on my rotation of favorite places to visit, and I highly recommend! My most recent pick was the avocado toast and it was delightful. read more

My partner and I stopped into Ellie for breakfast on a hot and humid Saturday morning. The space is very clean and organized, with a walk up counter filled with pastries and a drink area. We decided on the raspberry croissant and monkey bread, while I ordered a sausage breakfast sandwich on a croissant and my partner ordered their daily quiche. We were able to find a table easily and waited a few minutes for our entrees to arrive. In less than 5 minutes, we had a table full of carbs in front of us. We started off with the savory items, the croissants were thicker than what I've had previously but had great flavor. The tomato jam in the breakfast sandwich was a great compliment to the sausage, egg and cheese as well. In hindsight I would probably get it again on their english muffin as the filling is much better aligned with that shape rather than the croissant. I tried my partner's vegetable quiche and it was very light and delicate. I enjoyed the custardy nature of the egg but it could've used a bit more salt. For dessert, we tried the raspberry croissant first and found that it was stuffed to the brim with a delicious whipped filling and raspberry preserves. It was my favorite item of the day, it was visually alluring and tasted even better than it looked. The monkey bread was good was well but the exterior was the best part of it. The amount of caramelized gooeyness and cinnamon decreased towards the middle and the middle was comparatively plain. A very good meal and I left happy and very bloated. read more

Beautiful and pristine spot downtown. Every bite and sip was worth the ride. We had the quiche of the day with a side of dressed greens, so delicious and creamy and the lightly dressed greens were the perfect accompaniment. Couldn't resist trying the rhubarb orange blossom scone, and oh my! The opposite of dry which you find with some scones and absolutely perfect! Took home a cinnamon bun and a chocolate croissant, both were wonderful. The people are friendly and just the perfect amount of attentive. I cannot wait to go back and bring friends! read more

This place is adorable! Staff is warm, welcoming, and accommodating. There is plenty of seating and various shop and art items to purchase. The coffee was delicious and the breakfast sandwich was great. The English muffin is similar to a Portuguese roll. The tomato jam adds a great flavor to it. We added bacon to ours; it's real thick cut bacon. Top notch! Wish we lived closer to come back more often! read more

Went to the new Ellie's location this past week and it's quite nice inside. Beautiful ambience and definitely gives off a nice Parisian vibe. But my only complaint is the lack of desserts. My favorite were their amazing selection of cakes (not to mention their crème brûlée). Now it's just breads and croissants. Please bring your cakes back! Or at least do a cake of the week. OMG! What a delightful place to grab breakfast! Bright and sunny and cheerful place all around. The staff were lovely and when I ordered the glazed carrot salad before the kitchen was properly open, they were so sweet and accommodated me. They also brought us steamed milk for our brewed chai tea. We felt like royalty! The croissants were as light and airy and crunchy as any perfect Parisian croissant I have had. We were so lucky to grab a gorgeous whole gingerbread cake for our Christmas Eve dinner as one server told us they sell out in minutes around this time of year. I cannot recommend Ellie's enough!! We had our wedding desserts made by Ellie's and we could not stop raving about them. I am gluten free and love all sweets; however, finding ones that taste as good as the real deal can be a challenge. We had the following: - GF chocolate cake bites with raspberry buttercream (I still dream about this cake, it was so moist) - GF lemon cake with blueberry elderflower buttercream (simply delicious but doesn't beat the chocolate cake in my opinion) - PB Mac bars - soo good if you love peanut butter and chocolate - assorted macaroon flavors which were such a crowd pleaser They also offer a variety of sweet and savory bites in their shop. I can understand why this is a popular spot in downtown Providence. My partner and I flew in that morning and need a space to work and get some breakfast. It was a busy location so we decided to check it out. We ordered a croissant, Ellie's signature breakfast sandwich, iced coffee and cappuccino. The croissant was good and decently flakey, but I wish it was more buttery. The breakfast sandwich with no add-ons was good, and I enjoyed the tomato jam. Drinks were also delicious. We stayed at a table for a few hours to do work and we did not feel rushed at all. Service was also good and everyone seemed to always have a smile on their face. I stopped by Ellie's because they serve their breakfast sandwich all day. I got the signature sandwich and added bacon. The English muffin was so soft and fresh and the addition of the tomato jam really elevated this breakfast to the next level. You order at the counter and they give you a number. They have plenty of tables outside, which I tried because it was a beautiful day. I'm not a bee fan though, and one was bugging (haha) me so I went right back inside. Ellie's was recommend by staff at the Aloft Hotel and I am so happy we made the walk to try it out. Ellie's was a beautiful French coffee shop with the perfect coffee tea and pastry offerings. On our first visit, we got a chai latte, a cafe latte, monkey bread, and a croissant breakfast sandwich. This was the best chai latte I've ever had. NO JOKE! Ellie's is my go-to in Providence for the best baked goods and sweet treats. Their croissants are perfectly buttery and flaky, and I absolutely swear by their almond croissants (which are very well filled with almond paste and crowned with a generous serving of caramelized sliced almonds) and filled croissants. Their strawberry lemon cheesecake croissant is such a delight, with the tartness of the lemon balancing the strawberries perfectly, though I do miss last year's summer special of blueberry lemon croissants. Their cakes are also incredibly decadent -- they are a bit on the denser side and have a wonderful selection of rotating flavors (and the option to customize too). Wonderful atmosphere and staff is super accommodating and friendly. Latte and chai teas were attractive and delicious. Both my DH and I enjoyed the Ouefs en Cocotte, a light dish of eggs with wild mushrooms, a light green sauce, microgreens and shredded gruyere. Husband's was served with sourdough toast. Since I am GF, mine had a rosemary 'wheat-free" English muffin. Only complaints is that the English muffin needed to be toasted more with some butter. A little dry and cold for my taste, but nice flavors. Definitely will come again next time we are in Providence. read more

Established in 2012.

Ellie's first opened her doors in winter of 2012 as Ellie's Bakery on Washington Street in Providence, RI. This tiny bakery aimed to serve fresh breads, unique pastries, and unparalleled hospitality. Ellie's quickly became a part of the neighborhood. Over the years, the menu and team have grown, from testing the perfect croissant daily over the better part of a year to the barista team developing a single-origin coffee program and signature coffee blend. The idea of expanding Ellie's started when the demand for pastry pushed the baking operation to Hope & Main in Warren, RI, which allowed the team to really dive into pastry production while we searched for a new home for Ellie's. After years of looking for a place that could bring the bakers back under the same roof, we discovered 225 Weybosset, where we now look forward to serving you morning through night with the same nourishing and dependable service that we've come to be known for.

Meet the Business Owner: Ellen S.

Ellen Slattery is the proprietor of Ellie's and Gracie's. Ellen grew up cooking in her family kitchen, where she developed a passion for feeding people, which she carried from her home kitchen through a four-year psychology degree and then to culinary school at Johnson & Wales University. She opened Gracie's on New Year's Eve in 1998, where she is known for building a team that is excited about culinary artistry, wowing guests, and championing locally sourced food. In 2012, she opened Ellie's Bakery as an extension of the bread program at Gracie's, and in 2019 opened Ellie's on Weybosset Street. With this latest location, Ellen and her team strive each day to stand out in the community as a loyal, soulful, nourishing neighborhood eatery.

The oysters were spot on, and then it became Appy Hour... dollar oysters and discounted appetizers from 3 to 530 every day. They have few outside seating available as well. We started with some appetizer raw fish and combo as well as kohlrabi Caesar. We got black bass and a seasonal fish with combo that included lightly roasted oysters, shrimp and squid. All seafood was directly sourced from local port and fresh. Seafood appetizer was delicious. The caesar was interesting. I've never had kohlrabi but it reminded me of radish and it was tasty. Personally i would have preferred little less salt and olive oil so that flavor of the raw ingredient stand out more but was not too bad. My entree was the seafood risotto. Flavorful risotto with some seafood on top. Was a bit messy to eat because of the shells but was flavorful. The crab and shellfish itself was small and a bit underwhelming but the rice was rich and full of fish flavor. My mother had the cacio e Pepe which was good but she said that nothing comparable to one she had in Rome. I was not a huge fan of the thicker pasta but that's just is personal preference. Service was excellent but the table was a bit small and tight as we were very close to the next table and can hear what others are talking about so not a very privately setting. Overall i did like the place. Food and service were good. But it was not anything exceeding expectation and there were few things that detracted from our experience such as heavy seasonings, small dining space and etc... The price is quite expensive for the amount of food they serve as well. I think it's a good place for special occasions.

I came with a very large work group today, and the servers were so patient and flexible when we asked for modifications from the menu. I even was able to order the queso dip with the chorizo on the side (yummy but very thick cheese dip!), and they were very attentive of my colleague's mushroom allergy and made sure she got dedicated dishes, even when we were all sharing apps. The churro donuts seem to have changed recipe and got mixed reviews - some thought they were dry, another says she Uber Eats just those regularly Sitting outside in the summer on the patio is nice. Tasty, interesting dishes with modern urban twists on Mexican recipes. Truly the only slight downside is that sometimes parking can be tricky in this area, but you can always find free street parking, it may just take you a little bit. Even the funky and creative decor is a selling feature for me. A must-try!

Visited last week for a coffee, it was burnt. Figured I got the bottom of the brew so I didn't complain. But when I returned I had the same experience, I asked Courtney if the coffee was burnt, she told me it was a dark roast. Thanks for the insight. The coffee was definitely burnt, not sure if anyone there drinks coffee or knows how it should taste, was not happy with a $2.50 coffee which if I walked around the corner to Starbucks I could have had a better and larger coffee for the same price, next time I will take the extra walk. Mistake number two, I ordered a roasted pork sandwich at about 3 in the afternoon. I noticed that the display case is not refrigerated. I asked Courtney if that was okay for the sandwich to be sitting at room temp or higher since the kitchen and about five appliances are right next to the case sending heat towards it. Courtney told me that the sandwich was fine, it was made a little while ago. So much for me trusted her word. I walked out with the sandwich and ate it when I got to work, about 2 minutes away. The sandwich was warm and the bread was soggy and not worth $9. I could live with all that and simply never go back but an hour after I ate it I was nauseous, my stomach literally wanted to escape me. Think Alien! My guess is that the sandwich was made the day before, sat in the case since about 11AM and did not sell, got recycled the next day, sat in the case some more and then me being an idiot bought it, I could be wrong but it wouldn't be the first time a bakery did such a thing. I checked the prices listed and can't understand how it got moderate, this is an expensive bakery that doesn't even come close to justifying it with any sort of value or taste. I also looked at the reviews, which have to be bias because there is no way it deserves 4/5 stars, again my opinion. My absolute favorite thing about Sundays. Their coffee drinks? Exceptional. Their Food? Perfect. Their consistency? Divine. Their overall attitude? Everything. We went for Valentine's Day during Covid, because I'd heard so much about Ellie's & Gracie's, working in the restaurant industry for the last 10+ years, but haven't been able to go, because my only days off are also their only days closed. I had time to order their breakfast, and will never look back. My fiancé ran in to grab our to-go order, and they were busy (as every restaurant was on Valentine's Day) - The Barista handed my fiancé the order, and said it would be another minute or two on the coffee drinks (we aren't impatient, so that wouldn't have been a problem for us anyway). They handed my fiancé a heart-shaped cookie for any inconvenience having him wait an extra moment or two for the coffees might have presented. I thought that was the (no pun intended) sweetest thing to do. We are obsessed with the poutine, and all of the items we have tried on the menu. We have also ordered through grubhub, and quality sometimes doesn't translate with delivery apps - theirs still had every bit of charm & decadence you would expect. And while the food & beverages are amazing, my favorite part will be the hand-written 'Thank You' on the top of the coffee cups. It makes you feel special, and makes me want to order from them every day. We are turning it into our new Sunday Morning order. Thanks to the Ellie's Team for being so spectacular! read more

I keep trying to like this place but no matter how many times I try, it's like they're determined to not let it happen. I work in Providence and have tried their coffee, the sandwiches and the pastry and come away underwhelmed each time. It's still kind of a new place and they are obviously working through the bumps of getting a business up and running so I have held off reviewing but I think it's time. My latest (and possibly last) visit to Ellie's was about three weeks ago. I went down one afternoon after lunch to grad a coffee and a snack. Like I said, I keep trying... This time I had the (dubious) pleasure of having a young lady Courtney wait on me. Unfortunately, it seems that my presence wasn't what she was hoping for that afternoon. Maybe my shirt was rumpled, my tie askew or looking "cooperate" was the trigger but either way I don't think I met her standards as a customer. The coffee, once again, tasted burned and clearly wasn't fresh. But it was after lunch and maybe I just caught a bad batch. The cookie was better, that much I must confess. It was tasty but for the price really wasn't THAT tasty. Honestly, I think I will stick to going to Starbucks up the street. I know what I will be getting minus the pretense of faux Parisian cafe and the staff are actually nice. Ellie's Bakery is hands-down one of my favorite spots in town -- not just for the incredible pastries, but for the people who make the experience special. I have to give a huge shoutout to Stephanie, who goes above and beyond every time I visit. From the moment you walk in, the bakery feels warm and inviting, and Stephanie is a big part of that. She's always friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seems to care about every customer. Whether she's recommending her favorite pastry of the day or remembering my usual order, she brings a personal touch that keeps me coming back. On my last visit, she helped me put together a last-minute gift box of baked goods, and her suggestions were spot-on. The recipient loved everything -- especially the cinnamon buns (which Stephanie said were a customer favorite, and now I understand why!). The whole team at Ellie's is great, but Stephanie truly stands out for her kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail. I had an in-home business party for 25 on a week-day night. I ordered five dozen assorted flavors macarons. They were Strawberry, Blueberry, Honey, Chocolate and Pistachio, and beautifully colored by flavor. (Also had some savory dishes, not relevant here.) I ordered five dozen cookies 24 hours in advance. All was neat as a pin, tightly wrapped with string and ready for pick-up exactly on time. Sixty cookies cost about a hundred dollars or so. Friendly staff, quality coffee, and delicious breads and pastries - what more could you want? The baguette has a nice crispy crust, and the chocolate walnut cookie is almost like a brownie melting in your mouth. I had a cappuccino while I was there that was delightful; the cup was warm and the steamed milk and espresso were perfectly balanced. To top it off, you also get to smell all the wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen right behind the serving area. The prices seemed about average to me. The portions seemed normal, too. Love this place, just wish it wasn't downtown! While it's not the most convenient place to get to, I'm happy to make it down here once in a while. Coffee - incredible. I don't know what they do, but you don't need to add anything to their lattes. Sandwiches - daily selections on their homemade bread.. INCREDIBLE! Out of all the treats, I was told to get the macarons. I got a box of 6 and shared them with a friend, and they were all amazing. Nice place cute minimalistic interior. I'm more of a fancy kinda gal but it's ok. The dessert is delicious. There are a lot of options to select from but we visited at the end of the day so there was not much left. I don't know if I would like to sit in because it's just too tiny and I can't imagine it being cozy with a ton of people in the back trying to order food. Overall, nice but then again it's Gracie's bakery so it probably could have been a bit more beautiful. read more

Kinda expensive for what you get. More about "the experience" than the taste. Ordered pork belly sandwich, it was really dry, it really felt like it was lacking a flavor, like it didn't go in any one direction. If it had some kind of spread or chutney or something it would have been pretty good I think. The iced coffee was average, at best. Probably better off going to Bolt, Dave's or New Harvest. My favorite cafe/restaurant in Providence! The people know me by name, I go in every week (most days) and order pretty much the same thing. If you're a college student or faculty member, you do get a pretty decent discount. Definitely try a macaron or quiche for breakfast, hot or cold sandwich for lunch, and chicken or steak for dinner.
