My large drip coffee ($3.5) seemed satisfactory, not over extracted (read: brewed in the morning and Sat in a pot all day). My croque monsieur ($19), with its thick heavy cream sauce, replete with Dijon, has become my favorite rendition of this item. Quite a shame that the fries had cooled down somewhat. I came here for the first time for restaurant week, and really enjoyed the experience. You order at the counter and many things are brought to you where you sit down. At points in the Sunday lunch hour, the line got a little long and slow because the person at the counter was preparing some drinks and pastries along with getting orders. There is a good mix of small tables and more communal large tables. I was with a friend and we got two seats at a large communal table and it was perfect. I enjoyed the salad and Italian Beef sandwich I got. The bread was excellent. The filling could probably have been a little more interesting, but it was good. My friend got the squash sandwich, and that seemed like a more creative and unique sandwich. The Peppermint cake was also good. I am a big frosting fan, and I would say this frosting was a little more rich than I personally prefer, but overall a nice and festive piece of cake. My friend and I were there for about 2 hours in the afternoon, and it was a nice environment to catch up and enjoy the people watching in downtown Providence. read more

The shop is settled into downtown Providence and parking is okay. The variety of foods is good and they know what they are doing in the bakery! It's like a DIY sandwich kit WITH a side of confusion. The grilled cheese and chicken itself? Not great, bland, dry and messily thrown together. I've had better sandwiches made by toddlers. We were in town for a conference and stopped by for brunch on the weekend with a few colleagues. You order first at the counter, and then find an available table. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. On this particular occasion, we were informed that they were closing in ~1 hour for a private event. Luckily we had enough time to enjoy our brunch and treats. As time progressed, we noticed that they stopped taking orders closer to the start time of the event. I went with my usual drink order of an iced London Fog. Additionally, I ordered a breakfast sandwich and substituted a croissant for the bread, plus a parfait on the side. This is a boutique "Parisian" style cafe serving up top notch breakfast, coffee, and sweet treats. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on a croissant that was absolutely delicious. It paired well with the tasty latte and yogurt parfait that accompanied it. I stopped for lunch with a group of 4 while visiting Providence from out of town. There was a sizable line to order at the register before sitting down, so be prepared to wait if you are visiting at peak times on the weekend. The wait was definitely worth it and we were able to get a good table after we ordered our food. The servers were friendly and attentive. Food was brought out about 15 minutes later, hot and fresh. How have I not left a review for Ellie's before?! I find this shocking. From before they opened across PPAC to when they began dinner service to now, I have been an avid fan and follower. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing, their coffees expertly made, and don't get me started on desserts. Just wow. (Their famous macarons are not photographed by me because I'm allergic to almonds, but I otherwise highly recommend them!) This is such a cozy spot and truly home grown. Went to Ellie's Bakery soft re-opening this week. I couldn't decide between the French green lentil salad or the peach & heirloom tomato salad so I let them surprise me. She selected the former: French green lentils, mixed greens, baba ganoush, cucumber, kalamata olives, feta, dill, parsley & celery fronds with a tahini dressing plus grilled chicken. My partner and I stopped into Ellie for breakfast on a hot and humid Saturday morning. The space is very clean and organized, with a walk up counter filled with pastries and a drink area. We decided on the raspberry croissant and monkey bread, while I ordered a sausage breakfast sandwich on a croissant and my partner ordered their daily quiche. We were able to find a table easily and waited a few minutes for our entrees to arrive. In less than 5 minutes, we had a table full of carbs in front of us. We started off with the savory items, the croissants were thicker than what I've had previously but had great flavor. The tomato jam in the breakfast sandwich was a great compliment to the sausage, egg and cheese as well. In hindsight I would probably get it again on their english muffin as the filling is much better aligned with that shape rather than the croissant. I tried my partner's vegetable quiche and it was very light and delicate. I enjoyed the custardy nature of the egg but it could've used a bit more salt. For dessert, we tried the raspberry croissant first and found that it was stuffed to the brim with a delicious whipped filling and raspberry preserves. It was my favorite item of the day, it was visually alluring and tasted even better than it looked. The monkey bread was good was well but the exterior was the best part of it. The amount of caramelized gooeyness and cinnamon decreased towards the middle and the middle was comparatively plain. A very good meal and I left happy and very bloated. read more

The ham on my breakfast sandwich tasted funny after a few bites so I stopped eating it and left. Soon after I got horrible food poisoning from this establishment. The staff were lovely and when I ordered the glazed carrot salad before the kitchen was properly open, they were so sweet and accommodated me. They also brought us steamed milk for our brewed chai tea. We felt like royalty! The croissants were as light and airy and crunchy as any perfect Parisian croissant I have had. We were so lucky to grab a gorgeous whole gingerbread cake for our Christmas Eve dinner as one server told us they sell out in minutes around this time of year.
