Does the Trick Its always more fun going to a place where you can feel like just relaxing. I googled searched best dive bars near me, which was by the Nashville airport, and a short list popped up. Very close to the airport hotels you will find a clean local bar with a friendly bar tender and great conversation with Nashville folk...yep..I said that. To give a real however I have to say that Nashville allows smoking in bars...I guess up to the owner, but to their defense it was not smoky smelling and they have good evaluation systems so its all good. I didnt notice and wasnt asked about food but once I mentioned leaving was offered a menu. Asked the bartender what was good and from a full menu I selected The Raven which is a pastrami and turkey on rye...it was excellent! Fresh tomato and slaw. If you want mixed drinks they have a full display with some top shelf. If you travel with friends you could play pool, darts or....wait for it...skeet ball! A couple of big screens above the bar. The space is great and I love the variety of music at the Elm Hill Tavern. Unfortunately I didn't eat anything but I loved being there.

There is a certain mystique that accompanies a good dive bar, a mystique that I have never really understood until now. I have to be fair and say that I underestimated the Elm Hill Tavern in every way possible. Shame on me. We went there more out of desperation due to the late hour and our accommodations near the airport. My expectation meter was pinged on zero but just inside the door we noticed a well respected coworker. It was like going to a small second run cinema and finding yourself seated next to Steven Spielberg. You would be like, "Damn, this must be a good little movie theater!" But while his presence was a good endorsement, it alone was not enough to fully win me over. I was still suspicious. The place has all the rough around the edges charm on can handle. Elks lodge tables with thick naugahyde table clothes, stained coin op billiards, and a skee ball machine to keep it interesting. Numerous neon beer signs make a "noble" effort to spice up the decor (that was a really bad science nerd pun you may have just missed). I expected little in terms of beer selection but found a delicious IPA on tap. Despite the late hour they were still serving a full menu. We order several items and to our surprise they were all pretty good. Crisp on the outside yet soft on the inside pretzels with an excellent duo of sauces (mustard and cheese). A yummy french bread pizza, and an extremely serviceable chix quesadilla. What also took me by surprise was how friendly everybody was. At first glance this seems like a bar where non-locals may not be welcome, but to the contrary, everyone, bartender as well as patrons, was more than accommodating. It turned out to be a great visit and I once again was reminded to never judge a book by its covers. There world is full of hidden gems that only those willing to turn over a few stones will ever find. So glad we didn't leave this stone unturned. read more

Covered in sawdust and thirsty for a cold brew, this place was just what we needed. I only had a couple drinks but I've what'd the food here is great and ready quick. Talk about a dive bar! We stopped in for lunch, and walking in it sure didn't look like much. But we changed our tune by the time we were walking out! The other Yelpers were not kidding about the sandwiches!! They were delicious! Everyone at our table got a different sandwich and we were all happy with our selections. My father got the Pastrami on Pretzel Sliders - I was super jealous! They looked amazing! In addition, the woman who helped us was super friendly. I came here mostly for the food and free poker. I'm giving it 3 stars based on the food alone. If you can't handle cigarette smoke and LOTS of it go for take away. Their sandwiches are surprisingly impressive. They actually have a lobster roll. Yes! This dive bar in the middle of nowhere is rocking an impressive lobster roll for under $10. I have had some great ones in NYC and know the difference. They are also creative with their other sandwiches. "The Raven" was very tasty on some excellent bread. Skip the pretzel appetizer, terrible. It is my understanding the menu is shared with their sister establishment Riverfront Tavern, which I have not checked out as of yet. I'd definitely recommend grabbing lunch here to maybe take out on the lake or maybe for a picnic. Food and atmosphere are totally not on the same par with each other. Went here for lunch, so sadly, had no beers. But all signs (on the walls) pointed to them being very reasonably priced. Ordered the loaded potato soup and mini sliders. Both were excellent. Soup seemed homemade. Played some skee ball while waiting. Server couldn't have been nicer, offered us to-go beverages before I even knew I might want one. Sandwiches are fabulous! The outside and inside is very very "dive bar" and if you can get over the lack of air circulation to remove the smoke, it is a great place for a meal and a drink. We didn't stay for the free poker, but it was clear that a lot of people enjoy it as the place started to fill up. Would definitely go again, but maybe sit outside at the small patio area to get away from the smoke. read more

If you are near the airport and looking for decent food and reasonably priced drinks this may be a great choice. I would have given it one more star by the Bartender on due, as well as chief cook, seemed to be more interested in her phone than doing here job. Best sandwich in Nashville, so far. Yes, it is a dive bar. But still a great atmosphere and very friendly service! My wife and I split The Raven and The Black Forest sandwiches. Both were quality sandwiches you would find normally at high end restaurants. Bread was fresh and both were excellent! We WILL be back. read more

I was hoping for a cool dive with pool tables. I got that, plus a STUNNINGLY good prime rib sandwich with Parmesan peppercorn sauce....I couldn't believe it. Shaved steak, wonderful cooked in Au jus, and so strangely light. The bartender, Chris, was wonderful. Wandered in solo and the guys at the bar let me join their trivia team. Just a blast. It is what it is. This bar is sister to Riverfront Tavern. I love Riverfront Tavern but this place is a little more divey. The menu is the same but the beer selection is much slimmer. It sits in the middle of an office and industrial district so not many people here but Donelson locals. This is nothing to write home about. read more

The food is typical bar food, but awesome nonetheless. Drinks are priced fairly and the people are super nice. Only downside is how smoky it is, so if you don't mind getting a little smoky then I highly recommend checking it out. read more
