Always wanted to go to this place. Have lived in Boise for many years. Finally went. Major letdown. The waffle was almost $12!!! THAT MUCH FOR A WAFFLE!!! with JUST BUTTER!!!! absolute...INSANITY!!!! I will never go here again. These diners are supposed to be affordable. How does a family eat here? Ok so yes, it's located on Capitol, super close to BSU and basically is downtown....so they will always get the business. But DAMN!! $12 for a waffle!! ONE. WAFFLE!!! just...one! This place is obviously NOT for the locals. It's for the parents of BSU students. They basically know that they can hella over charge and somehow get away with it. Just crazy. Again...it's like a diner. So there is absolutely NO need to be charging what they do. Waitress was very nice tho. Ill give her/this place that much, but yeah...for a restaurant I was excited to try after so many years bc I love old school places like this...I can 100% say...I will never go here again. Thanks for reading, YelpElmers!!! GO. SOMEWHERE. ELSE!!! You will get more food and won't get robbed. Cheers!

For a busy Saturday morning these guys handled service amazing. Walking in I was hit with the nostalgia of breakfast joints back east from when I was a kid. I ordered the "Hungry Rancher Breakfast" and man were they not lying. Maybe I've been watching too much Yellowstone. I couldn't finish it. Rainey was our server and she did wonderful. Highlights were the sausage gravy and the coffee.

Very good service. Clean. Food was not greasy. Veg omelette had fresh veggies. Photo sums it up. Not much else to say other than it is a good idea to come here.

My friend and I ate brunch at Elmer's this week. The owner greeted and welcomed us as we walked in and we were seated promptly. Our server was very sweet and efficient as well. I had an omelette with hash browns and a biscuit. The menu said that the biscuits were from Pillsbury and I assume they were frozen, but mine was really good as were the omelette and hash browns and coffee. The coolest thing was that they had a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers on the counter in the ladies restroom; they were just gorgeous! We told the owner how pretty they were as we were leaving (while he was sweeping the rug) and he said he cut them himself that morning! That was such an unexpected and pleasant surprise! I'd definitely recommend Elmer's!!

What are the great things about getting to see family is they always do the best breakfast spots luckily one of my uncles took me to Elmers and we got lucky and got really good parking but that wasn't enough. I had to have what I thought would be the French toast sandwich but instead I got an omelette with pancakes. The service was incredible. I had to Say Jeff was a lot of fun had a really good outlet in all his is a lHe's a careful and throw eat or do you want to give yourself time and the family restaurant this isn't the quick in and out. You need to have time to enjoy the conversation appreciate the atmosphere and make sure that the food gets there. And give it every chance to be appreciated before you turn it into an empty plate. .

Today while moving in our youngest to her new place to attend Boise state we walked over here for a late breakfast/lunch...I hadn't eaten at an Elmers for over 20+ yrs since we left the state of Washington. But when we used to live in Washington we had one blocks from our place and have fond memories as a young family eating here. Walking into this location it brought us back in time. A little outdated but super clean inside and the host at the front was super welcoming and friendly. Upon being seated our host brought over some waters and took our drink order. Heads up they do have adult beverages for brunch as well like champagne, wine and beer selection. After a very short wait our waiter Jeffery came to assist us. This to me was the game changer he was super friendly, attentive, informative and made this whole experience one that I would come back for. For food I had the crabacado omelette which consisted of lots of fresh Dungeness crab, bacon, sliced avocado and metered cheese. This omelette was very delicious and filling. I haven't had this good of a crab omelette since being in the Northwest. The crab was so fresh tasting and if you haven't ever had bacon and avocado with this flavor profile you have missed out. My daughter had the chocolate chip pancakes with eggs and bacon on the side. These pancakes could've fed a family of 5 they were so big, but so delicious with great fluffy taste. My daughters BF had the farmers breakfast which was 3 eggs with sliced ham, bacon, sausage links, hash browns and homemade biscuit. We loved everything and glad we stumbled across this place. I hope that more locals and visitors give this Boise staple a try. It's hard to find great food like this and the portion size vs the price. I really enjoyed our visit and food. We will for sure be back!

This was horrible. Cold food, small portions that you can tell come pre-packaged. Four dollars for a child size soda. Four dollars for one cup of coffee. Ten dollars for a tiny piece of shoe leather (ham) and a side of cold hashbrowns. We ordered "STRAWBERRY" pancakes and were charged for them but also charged an extra fee for the strawberries. Forty-three dollars for two people. It was disgusting and expensive for the quality and portions.

This is a gem right across the river from downtown Boise and across Capitol Blvd/Vista from Boise State University. It's clean, provides excellent service, and makes the best potato pancakes I have ever eaten. read more

This is the breakfast spot for anybody in Boise. They treat you like family here and the food is amazing. You can't ask for better customer service. Our waitress was Pat and she was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I went here with two friends who hadn't been before and she treated us like family. She is always happy and awesome to be around. On top of that the fruit was fresh and the hashbrowns were perfect. The food was amazing. I ordered Daily's Bacon and Eggs and it was delicious. The biscuit that came with it was buttery greatness. Breakfast can't get much better. read more

Seemed dirty. The food was nothing special and came out lukewarm. My hot cocoa was topped with so much whipped cream I couldn't drink it without making a mess all over the table, however our server was friendly and polite. Most likely won't be back. read more

I order the flat iron steak it came with a baked potato a few little vegetables and two little onion rings on the plate the baked potato was very cold I told the waitress and she apologized and took it back to try to get it warmed up but it still was cold when it came back I gave up. The steak was cooked to the way I liked it.but it was a small streak not something too write home about. I also had a bowl of their clam chowder the chowder was cold and I really didn't even find any clams in it it was flavorless. The restaurant is due for a remodel it looks kind of old and tired something from the late seventies to the early eighties.I don't belive I will go back too them I think I will go too a Dennys before I would go back there.As for the rating it show three stars I only really give it 2 1/2 stars. read more

Decided to try Elmer's for the first time after my parent in laws raves about the food. I was glad I did! The server, Carrie, was amazing! The coffee cups stayed full, food was ordered and brought out promptly, and she was all around friendly! The food was so good! I'll have to work my way through this large menu because everything looks so good! I had to try the potato pancakes-delicious! The winner was the bacon that came on the side though- big thick strips of high quality bacon. My father in law said the French dip was the best he's ever had. My mother in law ordered the German pancake- a huge crepe like pancake and really enjoyed it! Great kids menu at great prices too! read more

Just had late lunch/ early dinner at 4pm at Elmer's. We were craving pancakes after biking all morning- so decided to try it out. Great place!! Such quality food, I LOVED the German pancake. We had to smile when we walked in, because this is the type of place your grandma would bring the whole family as a treat. Very nostalgic decor! read more

OMG, This place is Auuuuuhhmazing. Just moved here to Boise from Las Vegas, and I must say this is without a doubt the best breakfast I've ever had. No joke. This is where the flavor train let's you off and the conductor says ,Now.... go and enjoy what they have prepared for you. So freaking good. Now go and enjoy what they have prepared for you. All in all the experience was a little disappointing. (Please read to the end). While the greeting was wonderful and the staff delightful, the food was not so great. I had gotten the ranch breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns. The plating was messy which bothered me a little, but I could've dealt with it had the food been good. The eggs were bland and rubbery and for some reason the hash browns were greasy, though they were crispy which was nice. The bacon was really good however (not paper thin or greasy) and the orange juice was amazing! I didn't finish my meal (a combination of not being very hungry and losing my appetite to the eggs) and informed the server of the issues (who was quite considerate and actually listened). We were given a sincere apology and a free coupon for the next time, which was kind of nice. I can somewhat understand why the quality of my meal wasn't great as it was a Sunday afternoon and they were between cooks, but I hoped it would be better. I'll probably try here again just to give it a second chance. read more

Jarek was our server and he was the BEST super awesome service. Always on his toes to make sure I was given the best care. Coffee was never empty and food was amazing. I asked for so much and everything was given to me very fast. I got the blueberry pancakes with eggs and bacon and it was awesome and yummy. The tip we gave Jarek was so worth it since he made our breakfast very fun and enjoyable. read more

I love Elmer's. Service has been consistently friendly and attentive (thank you Cindy), which is a rare treat in this town. Whether I'm there with my family or attending a business meeting with colleagues, my tea, water and coffee have always been topped off. I can only comment on breakfast and lunch. Breakfasts feature generous portions and Elmer's offers a range of healthy and simply decadent options. My favorites are the potato pancakes, regular pancakes and the garden vegetable omelet. For lunch, the BLTA sandwich is tops. I also enjoy the Dungeness crab BLT salad. The blue cheese dressing is rich and chunky. P.S.--Not sure about Moises E.'s comments about the coffee. In his photo, it appears that he really likes creamer shots ;- ) read more

My wife and I have been going to Elmer's on Capitol for a while now. We're regulars and chat with the general manager and several of the waitstaff during each visit. This Elmer's is corporate owned. Please note that this review is only for the Boise Elmer's. The decor is a little old fashioned but the place is clean. The waitstaff is very professional, friendly, and attentive. Many of the staff have been at the location for a long time. The menu is pretty large and is typical American breakfast and lunch/dinner fare. We love many of the breakfast items. Most of our experience is with the breakfast food and service. They do serve lunch and dinners where the food is decent compared with comparable restaurants. read more

We had a nice breakfast here with the rest of our family. The only problem was some of us ordered off the breakfast menu and some of us ordered off the lunch menu and so we were not served at the same time. It took almost 15 minutes from the time the first person was served till the last person was served so that was kind of a snafu. Our waitress was wonderful! I would recommend this Elmer's to people in the area and to people visiting. read more

My friend and I went here after a walk around Julia Davis with her kid, so we came here at about 11Am and it was relatively busy. I ordered a bagel Benedict which I highly recommend, I got a lighter portion which was half of a bagel smothered in hollandaise and other yummy stuff. It came with a side of pineapple, banana and grapes which were all fresh and delicious. Our waitress was pretty nice but not like out of this world, lol. It was a good atmosphere and for what you got it wasn't overpriced. Great place! read more

I have been told for a while to try Elmer's based on good reviews from friends and co-workers. I made the mistake of trusting the opinion of others. The portions are overpriced for the size, and the service is SLOW. You should not have to wait for a coffee refill when there are only 4 tables of customers for breakfast. Their hours are horrible for a diner. Not open for breakfast until 7 am is just ridiculous. There are actually some of us here in Boise who get up early in the morning to get things done. I tried Elmer's and will never go back. read more

Like night and day. We usually come here for breakfast or lunch. It's always great, and they're busy, which proves it! Today we went for dinner, which we've had once before. We went for their advertised prime rib dinner. We don't expect it to be fine dining, but reliable and satisfying. When we were here several weeks ago for dinner it exceeded our expectation. Everything was served beautifully, the rib was a soft pink flavorful medium rare. The vegetables were a fresh seasonal variety and sauteed. Tonight? Like night and day. Mediocre at best. One serving of the rib left before 5 PM, even though there were only 3 other parties in the whole place. It was medium. The baked potato was small, undercooked and tepid. The vegetables appeared microwaved, and we assume they were since we could hear every instruction coming out of the kitchen. We didn't bother to try them. For the second entree we tried the flat iron, since the "prime" rib was gone. It arrived several minutes after the rib dinner, while they overcooked that too. I was done with my dinner by the time it arrived. It was just okay. A $12 sirloin at Outback is a better choice... Sadly, we really won't be returning for dinner and now believe that they should simply close at 3 PM. There are too many better places for dinner prices... read more

Great breakfast place! Have only been once, but the food was great and we will be returning! No wait on a Saturday morning, though it was a cold holiday week, so that could've made a difference. The restaurant is big though, and there were quite a few people. Great coffee, potato pancakes, bacon, and the German pancake! Can't wait to go back and try more!! read more

There was a live ant floating in my water, not a huge deal but still notable. I ordered over medium eggs and the whites were quite raw so I didn't eat those- but the German pancake was awesome, as was my friends pancakes and omelette with hollandaise. read more

I have always had very good experience at Elmer's restaurants all over the country. Elmer's in Idaho has top notch service; very friendly staff, pretty fast service even in the busy morning and the food was cooked property. Overall very good place to eat. read more

FOOD POISONING! I like to stop at Elmer's whenever i'm near one because they don't have them where I live. I ordered the potato cakes with eggs over medium and bacon. The eggs looked weird, so I only ate half of one. The bacon looked as if it had been sitting out a long time, but I ate most of it anyways. The potato cakes tasted fine. I now have food poisoning and will probably be missing a very important meeting tomorrow morning that can't simply be rescheduled. The waitress was friendly and fast, but food poisoning kind of makes that not matter so much. read more

We are visiting Idaho for a week with the goal of eating some type of potato at every meal. Elmer's did not disappoint! The food was great and the staff was super friendly and helpful. We all tried something new and my favorite dish was the potato pancakes, followed closely by the original secret recipe pancakes. Audrey and Casey made some great recommendations. This is definitely a must stop if you are visiting Boise! read more

We had a late lunch early dinner on Saturday and couldn't wait to come back for breakfast. Clean, homey atmosphere. Food was great!! I had the fish and chips, fish was so good. Coleslaw was awesome and the fries were hot and tasty. The service was superb, our waitress was running her ass off and still made us feel well taken care of. read more

Since I was in Idaho, I also wanted to try something made with marionberries because they're so well known in the Pacific Northwest. I ordered the marionberry jam, and while I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, both my husband and I really enjoyed it. My husband went with an omelet and turkey apple sausage and was equally happy with his choice. The coffee was probably the only thing that didn't stand out to me. I drink my coffee black, and this was more of a classic diner-style cup of coffee--perfectly fine, but not the star of the meal for sure. Javier was great, he was up front about being new but clearly dedicated to the business, learning the menu, and above all else, customer's having an amazing experience. He is gem and a great hiring choice by management. The food was phenomenal. I ordered the Fresno Fig burger and the truffle cheese fries both nights, medium rare and both nights were delicious and made perfectly. I also ordered an old fashioned, Eureka Sour and the seasonal Farmers Market Sour between both nights and all drinks were well made and delicious. Between both nights my partner had the bacon jalapeño burger, the bone marrow burger, truffle cheese fries, and a couple different draft beers and an old fashioned. He loved everything he had, but would specifically recommend the truffle cheese fries and the bacon jalapeño burger. Thank you Eureka Boise for continuing the tradition of Eureka being my favorite burger place, it enhanced my trip SO much. Can't wait to come back.

I've been a fan of Elmer's for years, and my most recent visit was a perfect reminder of why this spot is such a staple in Boise. The coffee is fresh, the orange juice is crisp, and their mimosas are fantastic. I highly recommend trying the passionfruit orange mimosa--it is a game-changer! In Boise for business and this spot was right across from my hotel so had to check it out. Pretty big space inside and your typical diner atmosphere. Server was friendly but the food missed the mark unfortunately. Way too much cheese on their omelette and extremely greasy. Hashbrowns were both over and under cooked at the same time? Hot, delicious food. Great selection with plenty of variety to fit one's pallet of breakfast, lunch, and or dinner, served at anytime. Very clean and fresh ambiance. Excellent service - friendly, on time, with the program. Especially Jarek - super playful, attentive, welcoming, engaging, and professional. We stopped in Boise for the night and these guys were in walking distance so we decided to try them. We got seated and served quickly. Audrey our waitress was super friendly and the food was yummy with plenty to eat. We really enjoyed our dining experience. We just randomly stopped at Elmer's for dinner after returning from a walk along the river. Our waitress was Audrey, and I have never had better service anywhere! We had an issue with our meal and Audrey took care of us, Free dinner for both my wife and I and and coupon for our next meal free! What a great bunch of people! I absolutely adore this place and make it a point to visit every few months. Their food is simply exquisite, especially their mouthwatering omelets. Not only is the food delicious, but the atmosphere is perfect for a family outing. The staff is incredibly friendly and always goes above and beyond to ensure a delightful experience. Eh. food was to pricey and the whole place felt like a nursing home. It tasted ok but I wasn't too thrilled with the service either. Friendly but not very attentive. I'd try them again to see if it was maybe just an off day but they would have to wow me. read more

Servers were great but the cooks are horrible. I swear why can't the cooks, understand to cook my pancakes fully not half way. How would they like it if I gave them what they dish up for me. I'm pretty sure they'll be unhappy too. Never coming back again. read more

I really like Elmers and have been going there for years. Good cooking and friendly staff. Toss up between the quality of food between here and teh Egg Factory. Much better than IHOP. read more
