Normally Elmer's is a very Friendly place to visit. Today 8-9-23 not so much. Just going into the lounge area to see if there was seating, I was met with a less than Friendly Bar attendant telling me there were no tables left as I stared at one empty, and was told I HAVE to wait in the lobby. We absolutely loved Kimmy, who works in the bar Wednesday night thru Saturday nights and Sunday a.m. We were regulars there every week when we lived in Eugene. We have moved to another state recently and already miss going in to Eugene Elmer's mainly to see Kimmy. She became a good friend. We did like the food there as well, very good quality. read more

We went to this location with three small children the food was delicious but the sever Krista was out of this world!!! I came around 1, so I'm guessing this was shift change. The older server kept saying this and seemed disgusted that the hostess was seating people in her section in the bar area. My family and I are big fans of Elmer's as it's kind of our go to restaurant for mostly breakfasts, but the experience this past time for dinner was unfortunately not up to the high standards we have for Elmer's. The place was virtually empty and we were greeted by Zack, I believe his name was, and he is apparently the supervisor of the servers according to his name tag. He was extremely friendly and it would have been a delight to be served by him. Starting with the service which is where the bulk of the issue existed this trip. Zack would have no doubt given us a great experience if he were our server. That was not the case, however. I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble here because I know that everybody has an off day now and then, but our server was not smiling, not friendly, and overall just not very helpful. She did the very minimum you would expect from a server. I asked if I could get fries with the Breakfast Burger rather than the hash browns or fruit listed on the menu and she said you could get fries for a side with pretty much anything and that you can even get as many refills as you want on them. This was good news as I was starving and the so-called Northwest fries are super satisfying. I was excited by the prospect of many of them. Little did I know that when our food (which took longer than you would expect given how quiet the place is) was delivered to us, we wouldn't see our server again for quite some time. It's generally a good practice to check in a few minutes after delivering the meal to make sure everything is fine and see if refills are needed on drinks. A refill on the fries would have been nice as well and one would think she would have asked me if I wanted more once she finally checked in. Nope. No dice. And when I asked for a refill on my long empty Pepsi and for waters for the kids she had a real sour look on her face and kinda slammed the drinks down hard on the table when she brought them out. She just seemed very much like one of those people who thinks we should be grateful that she's serving us, rather than ensuring that we were actually really well taken care of. We don't have money to eat out very much, so it was disappointing to have such a mixed experience. The Breakfast Burger is not something I would order again as there was too much bacon jam on it and it wound up tasting like candy. Might have been alright if I had anything to wash it down, but as mentioned before the server essentially vanished while we were eating. Everything else was fine aside from the guy repairing tables with power tools very close to where we were eating. It wasn't busy as I mentioned, but if you're going to be using power tools in a restaurant, I think closer to 9 pm would be a better time. Updated on 10/5/2019 I was contacted by Elmer's and was comped for a couple of meals and drinks in the hopes of giving them another chance...and we were not let down this time around. Everything was exactly as it should have been. Our server, Raymond, was engaged and involved with us for the entire meal and generally just seemed to enjoy what he does. He was fantastic! The Crabacado omelettes were perfectly cooked and there is nothing at all to complain about. My family's faith in Elmer's has been restored. Well done! read more

Took Mom to dinner at Elmer's for her birthday (her choice). I know things are difficult right now with the pandemic, etc., however, there are some basic things a conscientious waiter just does. Our waiter, who's name tag said he's a supervisor(!), set glasses of water from his tray onto our table by holding them at the top! Maybe he was filling in that night, but his actions were unsanitary. The food was OK, not great by any stretch. I'd suggest not ordering the turkey dinner as the turkey, besides being extremely salty, tasted like the worst packaged deli meat you could buy. My guess is Elmer's Valley River will be gone in 6-12 months. read more

OMG me and my families experience was amazing. we sat in the bar/lounge area and sat with Kimberly. and boy she was the reason for our great visit. amazing customer service, personable and overall a great asset to the team. food itself was quick and super good. my potato cakes were cooked perfectly and order was made correctly. will be back! read more

Decided to go out for breakfast since it's a beautiful day. Went to #Elmers at VRC....Got seated at a table and given a menu, no one came by to ask if I wanted water, coffee, or to say hi I'll be with you in a few minutes. Sat there for 10 minutes. Now comes the sexist part? Young guy walks in, they seat him at a window table, (which by the way I had to ask for!) Greeted immediately, start talking to him, and the next thing I see the waitress is slipping out her order pad to take his order. I sat there for another minute took several breaths collected my things, got up took my menu walked right back out front to the manager and as I handed him the menu, I repeated all of the above, told him to have a really nice day and walked out the door.. I would speak of the service but we didn't get any. After sitting for 20 minutes in a half full restaurant we had to flag someone down to get our drinks ordered. The manager brought our drinks and apologized for the wait, saying our waiter would be there shortly-- he wasn't. After another 15 minutes, totaling 35 minutes, we left. I came here with my parents, and we had the California omelet, German pancake, and Saturday market skillet. All the foods were good and our waitress was nice. However, on a Sunday afternoon, the wait time was around an hour, so be prepared for a long wait. read more

We've been eating breakfast at this location since it opened but sadly yesterday will probably be our last. We arrived on sunday morning and it was quite crowded. The wait was 25 minutes which we expected. Because it was raining the reception area was very crowded with people waiting for their names to be called. As I looked around I saw that many people were standing around maskless even though there is a sign on the front door stating that masks are required indoors except when sitting at a table actively eating or drinking. I approached one of the hostesses and asked her if she could please tell people to put their masks on. She said I could tell them myself and I asked her why she couldn't do it. She said it wasn't her job and I asked her why. She stormed off but eventually came back and asked one of the parties to put to their masks on. But only one person did so. I asked her again to tell the other groups to put their masks on and she said she can't tell people to do that and she was too busy to talk to me about it anymore. I asked to speak with the manager, Jay, and she said he was not available. I pointed out that this is a state mandate and they are responsible for enforcing it in their establishment. She said one of the groups was sitting on a bench and therefore didn't have to wear a mask because they were sitting down. Sitting down in the waiting area?! Needless to say we left without eating and went somewhere else. If Elmer's doesn't care about state rules or keeping their patrons safe then they don't deserve my business. read more

We had a great experience for breakfast this weekend. It's a newly remodeled restaurant so everything is nice and new. We were promptly greeted and seated in a small booth. Service was excellent and the food selection was great. This isn't fine dining of course but compared to its competitors Elmers seems to be a notch above. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a pleasant breakfast on a weekend. read more

I'm a fan of Elmer's chain but there is something wrong at this one. This was my third visit and I had a twenty minute wait which isn't that big of a deal but people were coming in after us and we were the last ones to be seated. I was in a party of three. I had issues the first couple times I ate here but I keep hoping it will be better because this new location is the closest to my home. Today I ordered an appetizer and 3 meals. The appetizer didn't come out first and when I asked I was told that they don't serve appetizers. What? First of all why take my order for an appetizer if you don't serve appetizers when I clearly state it? Second I've never eaten anywhere that wouldn't allow me to have an appetizer. So I cancelled my appetizer. There were very few tables being served presumedly due to covid yet our server couldn't keep our drinks full so we sat thirsty for much of our visit. On top of all this our food was not prepared as requested. Uhg. I paid my tab and left only 10% as a tip which was painful for me. During covid I've been trying to tip 30%+ to thank the servers for working in this environment and generally tip 20%+in normal times. I will be scratching this restaurant off my list of viable places to eat but will still enjoy the other Elmer's throughout the Northwest I mean have you tried that chicken Apple sausage? So good. Eat it at the Elmer's on gateway though. Everything is better there. I told the manager too and he seemed uninterested. He simply said sorry and not another word. Was excited to try out the new Elmer's. The staff was excellent. I ordered the blueberry pancakes, eggs and bacon. I always order my eggs over medium because I want the whites cooked while leaving the yolk runny. Once again the white was slimy and runny. The butter was frozen solid and wouldn't melt on the hot pancakes. The pancakes, despite being loaded with blueberries, were tasteless. Bacon cooked to a crisp. Not sure if I will come back. I know how to cook eggs, worked in a restaurant for 8 years, it's not that complicated. So disappointed. read more

Went to Elmer's this weekend hoping to sit outside on their patio since it was such a beautiful morning. When we asked to sit outside we were told they can't serve us outside because it is considered a smoking area. First of all, what a waste of a patio! Second, those tables cannot possibly be 10 feet from the door! We went elsewhere! What a ridiculous choice to take a beautiful patio and not serve food so people can go smoke! We usually love Elmer's but today's experience means we won't try it again for some time. It was early and the place wasn't packed yet - we managed to get a booth in the back room. Our waiter came and took our order, we got our coffee about ten minutes later and then waited for our breakfast. And waited. Others nearby got their food and we did not - our waiter had disappeared. We asked the young woman cleaning tables if we could please have more coffee. And waited again for our breakfast. It came after a half hour. Our waiter dumped it off and took off. We yelled after him "Toast?" "That's coming," he said and disappeared again. Our food was cold. My scrambled eggs weren't eggs at all but some cold pasty egg mixture. My husband's over-easy eggs were nearly hard boiled and had to be cut with a knife, and his hash browns were barely warm. I'd ordered a side of fruit with my eggs and got a nice mix of pineapple, grapes, and an over ripe black-in-the-middle and on the ends banana which I didn't eat. We would have complained but our waiter was no where to be found. After we were nearly done with our meal he zipped up to our table with our toast. "It's a little,late," we said. "I know," he replied and took off again. We then waited and waited for our check and finally asked the young woman cleaning tables to see if she might help us locate our waiter so he could pay our bill. He plopped the bill in the table and took off with our credit card. No "how was your meal" no "thank you" - no service at all. My suggestion to Elmer's is if you don't have enough people to wait on customers, don't seat them, or improve staff and cook training. read more

We were extremely disappointed with our food and service at Elmer's. My husband and I both ordered the strawberry chicken poppyseed salad. When it arrived, it looked unappealing with nothing but large chunks of iceberg lettuce. And was missing two ingredients, apple and bacon, that it was suppose to have. No one came by to ask us if everything was ok, so we ate it as is. Then when someone finally came by, we told them about the salad. They were apologetic but didn't offer us any discount. We also never had our water refilled. I doubt we will ever return to Elmer's! read more
