    Chicken and waffles
    Jerry P.

Stopped in for late breakfast for dinner. I had potato pancakes, eggs over easy, sausage, links, and applesauce. It was all pretty good. My wife had the chicken and waffles and it smelled so good that I had to taste some. And it was all as good as it smelled. We have to do this again soon because it was nice to have something later in the evening that wasn't heavy and greasy.

Our waitress, Monique, was so friendly!

We have driven by Elmer's many times over the years, but this was our first time to visit. We are so glad we did! Comfortable, old-school restaurant that reminds me a breakfast spot I used to go to with my father as a kid.... except of course I wish the prices were more reasonable like back in the day. I had a tasty reuben and a cup of clam chowder. The staff here were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Monique, our waitress, was so nice and the Assistant Manager, Jason, came out to say hello too when he learned it was our first visit. They really made our day! We'll definitely be coming back, especially on a cold day when they have the fireplace going.

Best customer service we've ever had at an Elmers!! The host less gentleman was so kind and thoughtful, & our server Cindy was the sweetest. They both went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, & it was during a busier time so I was surprised. Our food came out quickly & was delicious. Thank you Elmers!

    German Pancake!

Our family came here (near Mall 205) for a Thanksgiving breakfast and were greeted by the friendly staff as soon as we walked in and were seated promptly. Two of us ordered German Pancakes, one ordered Stuffed Hash Browns, and the other, a Denver Omelet. The German Pancake is a specialty, and is fabulous, and we were all pleased with what we ordered. Sometimes the seat spacing can get a little tight. I'd like to give a special shout-out to our server, Jasmine. Despite being busy, she gave us excellent, efficient, and friendly service. She is a real asset to Elmer's! Thank you so much!

Let's just say I know Elmer's:) I was a hostess when I was 16 years old and one thing, it's always consistent. My parents wanted breakfast so we headed to Elmer's on Stark Street. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly by the hostess. Our waitress was pleasant and we ordered a few of our favorites - steak and eggs, stuffed hash browns, strawberry pancakes and the veggie and egg white bowl. My dad has ordered steak and eggs for breakfast for as long as I can remember so it hit the spot for him. The pancake portion is massive so my mom had two to take home as leftovers. The stuffed hash browns were stuffed to the hilt and my daughter gave it a thumbs up. The egg white and veggie bowl was also flavorful with the extra salsa and the fresh avocado was a nice addition. Listen - Elmer's isn't fancy gourmet food but we were wanting nostalgia and comfort on this cold blistery Portland morning and it delivered on all levels.

I am so sad to hear they're no longer allowing to go orders. I used to be able to call in on a lazy Saturday and go pick up my food. Recently I called to place an order and was told by the manager they don't offer that service and apparently they never have........ despite the many times I've used the service. Such a bummer. Dine in only now, probably too many folks not picking up orders and wasting the food.

The food is always good. Their servers are attentive to your needs. The restaurant has a home feel to it with art and fireplaces.

This place was packed on a Sunday morning and the inside was beautiful living up to the country vibes of the restaurant. Staff is super friendly and had really good recommendations. Everything we ordered was gorgeous and whimsical in presentation, but of course that would mean little without the flavors to back it all up, which it had in spades. The Thai steak tartare tostadas were incredibly balanced, with brightness and herbaceous notes from the vegetables, herbs, and sauce, great punch from the Thai spices, richness from the tartare, and a nice snap and slight nuttiness from the tapioca crisps cradling everything underneath. The foie gras dumplings were simply divine. I expected them to be rich and dense, but they were like little pillows, with a savory filling and a perfect balance of smoked leek broth, crispy fried leeks, and a caramelized shallot jam that ended up being the surprise star of the dish for me. Then came the main event, the Duck Stack, which I can only describe as a McGriddle on steroids (in the best possible way!). Somehow it all worked beautifully, with the rich duck gravy, fluffy pancakes drenched in syrup, spiced onions, and a fried duck egg tying everything together in perfect harmony. It was one of those dishes that sounds wild on paper but is totally brilliant on the plate and in your mouth. The garlic fries were spicy in the best way, perfectly crisp, and served steaming hot. The Duck Stack (pancakes covered with duck gravy, onions, and a duck egg) sounded a bit odd to me (and probably many others). When I asked the server if it was good, they told me that people travel to the restaurant specifically for that dish. I'm glad I tried it. Again, very unique with a well balanced spice profile paired with the delicious undertones of a hot pancake. I know I would have never thought of that, doesn't sound like it should work, but....it worked! Service was great, atmosphere was a bit loud with a band playing next door, it was a bit overwhelming, plus a random dude walked into the restaurant and a server lit his joint for him as a courtesy(?)...stunk the place up for a few minutes, but as I thought about it, I decided that was about the most "Portland" thing I had seen all week on my trip :) I'll be going back for sure, I would love to taste through that entire menu.
