Our waitress, Monique, was so friendly!

We have driven by Elmer's many times over the years, but this was our first time to visit. We are so glad we did! Comfortable, old-school restaurant that reminds me a breakfast spot I used to go to with my father as a kid.... except of course I wish the prices were more reasonable like back in the day. I had a tasty reuben and a cup of clam chowder. The staff here were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Monique, our waitress, was so nice and the Assistant Manager, Jason, came out to say hello too when he learned it was our first visit. They really made our day! We'll definitely be coming back, especially on a cold day when they have the fireplace going.

Best customer service we've ever had at an Elmers!! The host less gentleman was so kind and thoughtful, & our server Cindy was the sweetest. They both went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, & it was during a busier time so I was surprised. Our food came out quickly & was delicious. Thank you Elmers!

Our family came here (near Mall 205) for a Thanksgiving breakfast and were greeted by the friendly staff as soon as we walked in and were seated promptly. Two of us ordered German Pancakes, one ordered Stuffed Hash Browns, and the other, a Denver Omelet. The German Pancake is a specialty, and is fabulous, and we were all pleased with what we ordered. Sometimes the seat spacing can get a little tight. I'd like to give a special shout-out to our server, Jasmine. Despite being busy, she gave us excellent, efficient, and friendly service. She is a real asset to Elmer's! Thank you so much!

Let's just say I know Elmer's:) I was a hostess when I was 16 years old and one thing, it's always consistent. My parents wanted breakfast so we headed to Elmer's on Stark Street. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly by the hostess. Our waitress was pleasant and we ordered a few of our favorites - steak and eggs, stuffed hash browns, strawberry pancakes and the veggie and egg white bowl. My dad has ordered steak and eggs for breakfast for as long as I can remember so it hit the spot for him. The pancake portion is massive so my mom had two to take home as leftovers. The stuffed hash browns were stuffed to the hilt and my daughter gave it a thumbs up. The egg white and veggie bowl was also flavorful with the extra salsa and the fresh avocado was a nice addition. Listen - Elmer's isn't fancy gourmet food but we were wanting nostalgia and comfort on this cold blistery Portland morning and it delivered on all levels.

I am so sad to hear they're no longer allowing to go orders. I used to be able to call in on a lazy Saturday and go pick up my food. Recently I called to place an order and was told by the manager they don't offer that service and apparently they never have........ despite the many times I've used the service. Such a bummer. Dine in only now, probably too many folks not picking up orders and wasting the food.

The food is always good. Their servers are attentive to your needs. The restaurant has a home feel to it with art and fireplaces.

I mean, it's diner food, so I'm reviewing based on my expectation of diner food. The place was clean and the staff friendly and prompt. It's basic food. I went with a fish fry this time and it was deep fried just fine. My niece enjoyed her kids meal and activity book (although the crayons don't color great). 3 of us all had the fish, but my BIL had like a pot roast style meal and he really enjoyed it too. Yes, prices are going up. As they are on everything everywhere, but considering the new price point for dining I'd still say it's reasonable.

However, now that I've been a few times, I notice little details like "why do the hostesses continue to seat people right next to each other?". There are plenty of other open tables that people could be seated at, but it really eliminated our ability to have a connecting conversation, as it felt like we were a party of 6 with us 2 in the middle!!! And 2 of the people clearly had some personal "issues" going on and were very disruptive. The space is small, but the visual displays of all the artwork make it a talking point conversation. The main artist was on hand & we found ourselves with the opportunity to talk with him while we waited on our food (which took a lot longer than expected). Funny, we ordered 1st & ours came out 10 mins later after everyone else. I decided to go with the Chicken and Waffles, and we also had the shrimp and grits. The food hit on all cylinders, and the only thing that was needed next was to make a move for a cocktail and a little walking in downtown to change it up. Will definitely return, but I will be more direct and vocal about seating that's for sure.

I also thought their corned beef hash was a must order. I ordered their biscuit and gravy and also their poutine which had the same identical sauce/gravy. (I would probably skip these two dishes tho) One of my friends had the apple frittwhich which is a play on sweet and salty. It tasted fine but I was expecting more. I really dig how superb the service was here considering how many tables this place had. I also wanted to applaud the manager on duty that morning to offer a homeless man coffee / food / emergency services when he was saying his head hurts. She handled it professionally and ironically we saw that same homeless man an hour later walking down the same street. (He never asked for any of the services also) Overall, we had an enjoyable breakfast in a bustling area closest to downtown. Reasonable prices and terrific service makes this a spot i would come back in a heartbeat.

Poor thing works in the admin office and helps out on the weekends in the restaurant. Picture this: Saturday morning brunch in downtown portland and a breakfast place in a hotel lobby. Empty. We watched two tables leave without ordering. We waited until our food arrived to receive a drip coffee and a hot tea. (And when it did arrive the coffee was a cold cup of machine rinse. I really wanted what many have posted as the Hawaiian Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 spam, 2 Portuguese sausage, white rice. But it wasn't on the menu. Our server accommodated my request (thanks to the pictures from Yelpers). But when it arrived it was 3 eggs, 2 spam and rice. Overall the menu is confused. Is it a Hawaiian theme or not. Scant options is rice. Lots of potatoes. Even the condiments were confused; no soy or siracha on the table but ketchup and Tapatio. The general lack of caring by the management is what sticks with me. The sad bowl of sugar packets, jam packets, creamers and stir sticks all thrown together on the table like a mistake. But when I asked for honey or soy our server had to go to the kitchen and get side dishes of these. C'mon y'all. Pay attention to the details. Your customer sure are.

Given I was dining solo, I decided to seat at the bar located off to the left. It seats 12 comfortably. A big plus for me are the seats. They had a high back and are super comfortable. I could see sitting for hours gabbing with friends. Nice upbeat electronic music played in the background. Loud enough to hear but soft enough that you can hear who is next to you. I ordered the Omelette du jour - Three egg omelette special with bacon, spinach, caramelized onions, gorgonzola and blue cheese. It was fantastic. When a friend invited my sister and I to go, I whipped out my trusty yelp app and checked out ratings and menu. The menu looked fine-mostly traditional American style, featuring their turkey dinner and Spanish coffee. I wasn't that keen on turkey in August, but our friend ordered it and was pleased. My sister and I have pretty much the same taste and usually like the same things on the menu! We decided to split 2 entrees-the chicken special of the day and beef stroganoff. The first thing Summer, our server brought out was their beer bread. We wish we had the recipe. I loved it so much I'd like to make it at home. Then we got our entrees. The kitchen kindly split our orders so we each got 2 plates! It was a LOT of food! And we loved both! We couldn't decide which one we liked better! I can't remember what the chicken special was called but it had cherry tomatoes lightly sautéed in it and a flavorful sauce. Our friend wanted chocolate mousse for dessert , and we couldn't just sit there and watch her eat it so we ordered our own (no sharing this time!). It's dark and very rich. She also wanted to try Spanish coffee. They put on quite a show. They pour triple sec in the bottom, set it on fire and it melts the sugar they put on the rim. In goes rum & kaluah, and finally a little coffee and some whipped cream on top. We all tried it and WOW! It's potent! If that's your thing you need to get it! Three sips was more than enough for me.
