There are a few times I order a mimosa with my breakfast as well as biscuits. But before I ordered the meal I ordered a mimosa. I was not told the orange juice had pulp in it and the quaintly of the drink was not up to the mark with the price. So was disappointed. I had the chicken fried steak lighter style and it was good came with one egg and choice of fruit or has browns. I had the hash browns extra crispy and the egg was cooked perfect! Well, it happened again. Went to Elmers and had great service and food. Veronica recognized us from the other day and was our server again. Good service is not dead in Portland, you just have to get Veronica . Actually, everyone else was nice and attentive as well. So, maybe they just hire right. We go back to LA on Monday, driving. I used to go to Elmer's about once a week to either eat there or get take away. Then they stopped doing take out and I stopped going. I really enjoyed going there and loved their breakfast selection. I am a fan of pancakes. However now I do not go there and have not been back since they stopped their take out service. If they ever start doing take out again I may go back. I called here this morning to place an order to pick up and was told they are no longer taking to go orders. Is the pandemic over? We all got used to this convenient way to support struggling restaurants, why give it up? Is it not easier to just box up an order? No setting or cleaning of tables or dishes? We used to enjoy eating here...not any more. Received my breakfast - eggs, bacon - asked if they could bring my hash browns and English muffin...and orange juice - brought the orange juice - later the English muffin - and much later the hash browns (which weren't cooked long enough). I really like having the COMPLETE breakfast @ the same time The server didn't seem too concerned that my breakfast didn't come out as ordered and that I had to eat the eggs and bacon without the hash browns and English muffin. When the medium rare steak comes out raw, then 2 minutes after it is sent back it comes back overdone, it really makes it seem like you just threw it into a microwave and didn't bother to check the internal temperature with a thermometer before kicking it back out. It's like you're not even trying back there, and that isn't fair to the staff who are working hard to keep customers happy. Big props for their caring and friendly demeanor towards Seniors. The place is clean and service is efficient. The food...higher prices and lower quality ingredients (think Sysco for everything) than popular "foo-foo" spots in town. Oh..MY...I had time to waste had to be in town all day, so decided to have breakfast. I had been driving past Elmer's many times, so pulled into Elmer's. I hadn't been to an Elmer's for years, what a nice surprise. The waitress, Cindy, was so pleasant and helpful. The food was so good, I will definitely go back next time I am in the area. The food overall was okay it reminded me of a Denny's or an IHOP. I don't remember a time I haven't eaten here. My family moved within a few blocks of this particular outlet in 1957. At the time, my folks were young and had my brother and I and not a large amount of money, so coming here was a big deal. We brought out-of-towners in as a special treat. For the time, it was really elegant and decorated in the Colonial American style very popular then. It impressed my brother and I enough as toddlers to know that we better sure as heck behave. I know that Elmers is a Pacific Northwest chain with venues throughout most of Oregon and Southwest Washington. Their business office is just a couple of blocks away. I have always liked their local focus. Their fare is standard American diner food in epic amounts. The menus are huge and well illustrated. Everything is blindingly clean and parking is plentiful. It is a fairly spendy these days. but you will not walk away hungry. The food is very well prepared and very tasty. Nothing trendy at all, but if you want comfort, take a seat. Their pancakes are excellent, and the French Dip sandwich is a lifelong favorite. Coffee has always been good here. I think they served Boyds for years which is the first of what I remember as gourmet coffee. Elmers has a full bar and does a great job with whatever you wish Oh time, we all change, but you don't. Went with a farmers Omelet which had 3 different types of meats and 3 different types of veggies- it was good but my main complaint would be I felt it was very lacking on the meats in the Omelet and thus I wasn't to impressed with it and was disappointed with that part of the meal The OJ I had was pretty good, and I liked the hashbrowns it came with. Willamette valley Omelet with Pancakes and ate all of her food, so I assumed she liked it lol. Stopped in randomly because we wanted a simple, quick breakfast. Haven't been to Elmer's in quite some time but stopped in because we had errands to run at the Target and Dollar Tree nearby. Service was horrible. Our waitress was Becky and she was not friendly at all and talked to us like we were stupid. I currently have a temp paper ID as I'm waiting for my new one to arrive in the mail and she would not accept my ID because it was paper, but ALL temp IDs are paper! I used my temp ID yesterday at 3 diff restaurants and bars and hey all accepted them. So I don't know why she didn't. Will not be returning here. read more

If you were foolish the night before and mixed mojitos with Chardonnay, you probably aren't adventorous and just want something straightforward to eat. Elmer's is about as straightforward as you can get for breakfast. The chicken-fried steak and its gravy is decent. The French toast slices are huge (I think they call that bread "Texas Toast") but have an offputting sweetness too them. The hash browns are especially good if you ask for them to be extra crispy. All restaurants experience days when they are short-staffed and this might have been one of those at Elmer's....it seemed like the orders took a long time to make it to the table. Restaurant is nice and clean, but like the other Elmers I have been in (Gresham), kinda dark on the inside (little shaded windows and dim lights). read more

Had a nice little breakfast this morning. It's definitely a Sheri's type restaurant but the food was not bad. Just a quick in and out.

It's pretty good diner food. The service is good, the food is good, the place is a throwback to the 60's but clean and comfortable. It was loud however - probably because the average age looks to be 70+ when I was there late morning on a weekday, so people have to speak up. I think the advantage over the other chains is that the food I had seemed to be freshly prepared just before it was served to me. I think it's better food than Sheri's or Dennys, less of a selection. The prices are probably average (which I personally think are too high), the portions are large. You probably won't regret this place, you probably won't remember it for much either. If you're in the neighborhood, go ahead and give it a whirl - it will deliver decent food, reasonable service in a clean and comfortable setting. While you could probably do better, you could definitely do a whole lot worse. read more

Elmers is always super busy, however they always have great service every time I've gone there- wether it's 2 people or a group of 20+, our coffee is always filled and food comes at a reasonable pace this last time I went me and my husband split an item and had them change our biscuit to a biscuit and gravy. The waitress brought out 2 separate plates with half our food on each (so it was already split) and brought out separate biscuits with gravy- a whole biscuit for each of us. Which is super amazing! It's hard to share a plate and it was done nicely on each. Customer service seems to be priority here for sure. Very Clean, friendly service, very accommodating, nice and relaxing ambiance. Food is delicious. I tried the German Pancakes with strawberries and it was good. I give it an 8/10. My wife had the Eggs Benedict (aside from the fact that she judges a restaurant's ability to cook based on these) she says they were good. She gives them an 8/10. This is pretty much a Denny's style joint. Not a whole lot going on for this place when compared to all the amazing breakfast joints in Portland to choose from! I think if you get a simple breakfast of just eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast you will be pleased but going for an omelette covered in gravy is not going to leave you impressed. My boyfriend was okay with the basics....I was not too happy about the omelette. The flavor was pretty much non-existant and the gravy was about the same. There was hardly any sausage and it was made with too much flour. I had a side of pancakes and even these were not that great. They were sort of rubbery and not fluffy. A glass or orange juice was also $5. A bit much? Of all the amazing breakfast options in Portland this one didn't impress me at all. Thanks Elmer.
