What a refreshing change of pace for Escondido! Hubs and I needed a light lunch, so we shared the warm turkey apple Brie sandwich. It was very good. It would be nice if they had a half sandwich and cup of soup combo on the menu. Definitely will come again though! read more

It always shocks me that this place beat out a Starbucks (used to be a Starbucks but I don't think it did well enough but Elmisa almost always has a [short] line). I wanted to love this place. I had a recommendation from a friend, so I popped in on my way home from an early appt for a quick breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee. Simple. The menu is amazing! I was excited to sit and read my book with my black coffee and sandwich. The coffee wasn't ready at the time of my order, but the sandwich came out pretty quickly. The croissant was overdone, so crispy it disintegrated in my hands. I had the first half gone and still hadn't received my coffee. I got up to get it and seeing me there, they poured it. By this time I decided this is no place to sit and read a book and eat. The techno music was so annoying I felt like I was at a club. I packed up my half a sandwich, took my coffee and headed out. We stopped in this morning because we were looking for a gluten free breakfast. My wife got the avocado toast on gluten free and she loved it! I got the Morning Breakfast sandwich with turkey. Whether you opt for a morning jolt of caffeine with a delicious breakfast sandwich (which is served all day) or a cold or warm sandwich to enjoy for lunch, you'll leave very satisfied. So far, I've had the Early Riser and Bacon Havarti breakfast sandwich, the Ranch Chipotle Chicken, Lil Sis Chicken Bacon, Chicken Supreme and Tuscan Turkey. It's hard to choose a favorite since each sandwich is delicious in their own way. Typically, I tend to stick to one or two items, but so far, I've strayed from that approach since I have yet to have a menu item I wasn't satisfied with. For that one time I craved a fresh salad, the Elmisa Salad delivered on satisying that craving. So far, Elissa can do no wrong. The only drawback here, which is not on Elmisa Cafe, is the small parking and tight parking lot. Most times it isn't an issue since people often opt to take their food to-go. There are also several other items like acai bowls, fruit bowls, etc but what I'm really looking forward to on my next visit are the flatbread pizzas :) read more

I just went to Elmisa today and had a really lovely low key lunch with some ladies. It was my idea to go here because Elmisa is my favorite sandwich shop as of recently!! It's all about the bread for me. I live in the back of East Poway and will drive all the way to west RB just for that chicken artichoke panini. The menu is fun and exciting. Their breakfast items are all super delicious, they make all their own sauces and spreads. Truly it's such a fantastic gem and I hope it stays in business forever or my tastebuds will cry. read more

Amazing place - amazing staff - amazing cafe food. Here is another amazing point about this place - Most busy cafes get sort of dirty and trashed as the busy day unfolds. However, at Elmisa the staff is "almost" too obsessed with taking the time to walk the cafe to clean tables, and to wipe down tables and to reposition tables and chairs that get moved around. As a small business guy I'm impressed. I know how hard it is to find, hire and train staff to be so caring and concerned about offering their customers an amazing and consistent experience. This Cafe was a total surprise when I discovered some months ago. I used to work at a company nearby years ago and when moving back to San Diego last years I noticed this place (maybe was there but seemed too modern inside for me not having noticed it before). In any case, I love their pastries (particularly the croissants) as well as the coffee drinks. I cannot talk about breakfast food as I always order pastries and coffee. Came here after an appointment. My eyelash tech recommended this place to me. I got their BLT avocado toast ans their Tuscan Turkey hot sandwhich. Ate half of each and saved the rest for later. I have had 3 experiences with this cafe so far: 1. I had a sandwich and coffee that were great 2. I ordered via uber eats and got the entirely wrong order (uber eats did not refund me but I don't blame the cafe, this could have been an issue with uber eats) 3. I went today to try to replace the order that was incorrect with uber eats, they were able to give me a discount on the sandwich but not the coffee from my original order. The sandwich tasted great until I bit into a napkin (picture attached). I live 30 minutes away so I could not drive back, but this is a huge safety/hygiene concern for me as I am immunocompromised. I called and they were very apologetic over the phone and said that I would get a refund, however I am not sure they know which order was mine so I am unclear how I will get this refund. More importantly though, I am disturbed to find something inedible and possibly unclean in my food. We were looking for a place for breakfast after church. We had never heard of this place or been there, and it was really close by. So obviously it was our first time here. Five years ago it used to be a Starbucks. It was great to have something other than the traditional fried eggs and bacon or pancakes or waffles. My husband had the breakfast club and I had the breakfast bowl. Both of them were fabulous. My husband said the coffee was fantastic. And they do a generous pour. I also picked up a beet salad to take home for dinner. I actually just finished eating it. It was exactly what I wanted it so good. We're so happy that we stumbled upon this place and we will definitely be back. Especially soon because we're going to be going through a major remodel at our house and it will be nice to be able to pick up their salads for dinner. The staff are wonderful and pleasant and a very upbeat. I asked the owner a question about the açai because I wanted to find out the nutritional value of it and she was very nice and gave me the name of the brand that they use. We sat inside. There are several places to sit outside too. I look forward to trying their breakfast toast next time and some of the other delicious things that they have there. The texture of the egg was plasticky/rubbery and also verrry bland. I took the egg out and the sandwich was okay but still bland. I left this experience wishing I would've just gotten a bfast sandwich from Peets Coffee Or Starbucks instead to be honest. The Urban Veggie Sandwich and Avocado Toast are absolutely delicious and take the #1 spots for me, but I'd happily take any breakfast sandwich I could get from Elmisa and call it a very good morning. The parking lot is small, shared by a couple of business and has an awkward flow. Just know that before you arrive. As for the food, the chicken artichoke panini was good. There was plenty of filling, oozing cheese and crispy bread. The Mex mocha was balanced. I ordered it without the whipped cream and it was the perfect amount of sweetness. The iced coffee was so sweet all you can taste is globs of condensed milk so I asked nicely if it can be remade.
